101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: February 05, 2022, 04:03:29 AM
Any reason why coingecko says our source code repository is here yet there's only oh say... a handful of the "devcoin" in this code. Smiley

And I know why but I'd like someone to admit it: https://gitorious.org/devcoin/devcoin/?p=devcoin%3Adevcoin.git&a=search&h=HEAD&st=commit&s=devcoin

Also why does its owner (gitorious was purchased in 2015 by GitLab) keep putting the site on and offline?

I do like the commits tho.. few as they may be!

I hate mining anything not CPU mineable. I love mining altcoins thought to be dead for 0 profit lmao. However... I decided to experiment. Ran cpuminer with 12 threads til my computer got loud enough for me to say I'll never try that ever again! but congrats to the lottery winners here hehe:

EDIT: Honestly I think you guys are pioneering a way to more efficiently but better mine Bitcoin because -ck has used his brain and knowledge of the guts of the majority of pool mining code/operations to realize there's still a place for a "Timechain" focused strategy with the right amount of efficiency and the guerilla like tactics to not just brute force with hash power or be YAP (yet another pool) consolidating to act like the big fish farms... You guys are sort of picking the right places to focus and mining through a "path" that works for people with far less hash power and its gonna definitely work. Why would anyone prefer making bits and pieces of pool payouts when one big score would make up for multiple years of their lives at this time? I have always disliked pool mining. Which is why when I could've bought the hardware years back when this game got super expensive I decided to invest instead and spend my time learning instead of waiting for pool payouts Smiley

Godspeed!

RPC for 'getinfo' shows the message, this is something I've never seen in Devcoin. Wondering why its showing up now?

Found info that seemingly describes this message being made by Bitcoin Core devs on a mailing list message from Bryan Bishop (I remember this from Jul 2018):

https://lists.linuxfoundation.org/pipermail/bitcoin-dev/2018-July/016189.html

Why is this going on? markm? develcuy - thoughts?

Software bug, next time please report to the issue queue: https://github.com/devcoin/core/issues/new/choose

10-4... but seems odd it'd just popup after a month of me using that version without a cryptic peer broadcasting me said node. i think it's hardcoded...

DVC Community: develcuy is making exiting updates here - head on over and watch the greatness unfold! 22.x and the 0.9.2 MM with Counterparty 80 BYTE OP_RETURN? The future is limit less. Smiley

The latest wallet works fine so why do we need to copy what bitcoin is doing anyway? That devcoin logo looks a bit complicated for normies to remember if you are using it for marketing the coin. Complicated designs never work, genius in simplicity.

Thanks for your feedback!

We need new functionality provided by latest Bitcoin code base in order to bring Devcoin into nowadays ecosystem.

Simpler... A throwback to the days of innovation, DVC funded Cyptostocks "DVB", and 200 satoshi DVC... lets get there!!! Smiley

I just did the logo on the splash screen for fun.

Got the blockchain now  Smiley Thank you very much indeed.
That helps me plenty, as I can now see I sent BTE coins to (probably) an exchange in early May 2013, presumably I exchanged for BTC I'm guessing. I can now fill in a blank space on my transactions.

There's plenty more missing gaps though. Don't suppose you've got the blockchains for Fairbrix and Tenebrix as well? Leaked transaction trade dumps of btc-e.com and cryptsy.com would be a life saver, but I can't find those anyway on the web. So wished I'd exported my trade data before the sites went down.

Anyway, once again thank you very much.

I have Tenebrix mining and up to the latest block Smiley. What files do you need?

Also, I'm successfully syncing BTE blocks! Thanks for the nodes guys.

What is the goal here with Bytecoin?

If anyone wants to donate me my first BTE I have TBX to share - 607,000+ TBX total haha.

The latest wallet works fine so why do we need to copy what bitcoin is doing anyway? That devcoin logo looks a bit complicated for normies to remember if you are using it for marketing the coin. Complicated designs never work, genius in simplicity.

Thanks for your feedback!

We need new functionality provided by latest Bitcoin code base in order to bring Devcoin into nowadays ecosystem.

x2.

I agree with develcuy on this update. Usually the "knock" or slight on Devcoin is we use an old Bitcoin codebase. The update in 22.0.0 to Devcoin Core brings us up to date with Bitcoin Core's latest release. Assuming that means bech32 addresses segwit and such. If that's the case then watchout. We are 2022 in every sense of the Bitcoin codebase. Smiley

Thank you Fernando for your hard work and continued dedication. We support you.

2022-01-30 12:45 PM CST: I have officially petitioned Freixlite (aka FreiExchange) for a DVC/LTC and IXC/LTC listing since people have continued to show interest in a DVC/LTC pairing. See my request on telegram here: https://t.me/freiexchange/32360

As a side note, noticed emfox's ABE explorer for DVC is back up and running on the web (was down for awhile): https://block.d.evco.in/chain/Devcoin

2022-01-31 2:53 PM CST: The "final alert" message "URGENT: Alert key compromised, upgrade required" is showing in my Devcoin-Qt client.

When trying to figure out a private key for an address the dumpprivkey [address] command in the console won't work?  Private key for address [address] is not known (code -4)

My wallet.dat was generated in the old client so would there be an issue recovering the private keey through the console on the latest version? I generated a new empty wallet.dat in the new client and there was no issue but when I put in the old wallet.dat the error shows.

Just send your coins to an address on a newly generated client and retain your private key for the new address.

I usually just move my wallet.dat but I've done that as well - I use Windows 11 like a non-cool novice that I am. BTW, don't be fooled by these market prices. There's so much more to these revolutionary blockchain networks, protocols, unique hashed data on chain, yet to be read, or resurfaced, or maybe just dusted off an put into the machine where the hard disk belongs. ~ Apocalipsa

Virtually, some say that all those digiDVC and other factors that would make Devcoin's value real, are not real at all. I think we're stuck in a game, a simulation, or just alpha testing. Either way - we endure. And we're gonna come together to prove it to the world.

Dear Devcoin community,

As the head of Devcoin Foundation, and lead developer of Devcoin I should inform you the following:

I have been trying for the last 2 years to list Devcoin in centralized exchanges, we had many great opportunities but never enough funding. I did a last try recently to finally understand that "listing" is a business only for the exchanges and not for a project like Devcoin. They charge huge amounts of money only to use those same funds for providing liquidity! From now on, any listing effort should come from exchanges themselves, if they want to make money with OUR project, they should invest their own money. The Devcoin project only cooperates with individuals and organizations willing to work as hard as we do, risks included.

Thank you!

- develCuy

"listing" is for chumps not people of our beliefs. We value things for what they're creating each day and not for their presence on a web-based "exchange" or "listing"... We very well have one thing that may just not be visible at the moment. Much of that is the history of our co-founder and developers work pre-Bitcoin genesis and the other is the value of time and effort especially in terms of Virtual Game economics. I tweeted a new york times article from 2005 about how people who put the time in to earn in game items or currency make real world profits on places like eBay way back when for the social world meets virtual world games of that time. The market for the buyer was the fact it took the seller much time and commitment to acquire the in game goods the buyer valued enough to buy with real world money. The seller regardless of liking the game or not put in their TIME to make real world profit from the transaction on the secondary markets those social network virtual world games had/have. Second Life was on mentioned. It's open ended with no end goal - and it gives people freedom to do what they please. To me, that sounds a lot like this project. It's not just marks game or develCuy's valiant efforts to fund OS initiatives and grow the market. It's everyone's collective contributions to ethical decentralized and open ended acceptance of anything that takes the control of the internet and its development BACK from companies like Facebook, Google, and others that sell you and data mine you to stuff their pockets. No more.

To me our collective identity is our most valuable quality metaphorically. Our SHA-256 MM OGs - its written all over our chains, the network is still strong as ever, secure as ever. Maybe just not visible to people who think $ = value and $value = visible on websites/aggregators of fiat prices. ID will be huge, just as the value to those efforts of developers who made the internet of blockchains and their efforts in OSI and transparency/decentralization of power. The money will become real when the network effect of our collective trumps that of Facebook, Google, etc when they try to keep up. The population isn't aware of us, but we have powerful allies that people will recognize within our realm - bank on that. Then they will all want a piece of the FOSS blockchain world you all made happen. Don't worry about those coins just hold them with your private keys and keep running nodes.
109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [announce] Namecoin - a distributed naming system based on Bitcoin on: January 12, 2022, 09:24:02 AM
Has anyone managed to talk to the dev team? They clearly still post updates and latest release was just a couple months ago but outside of what they post on the site sometimes they seem rather quiet about the project.

Several of our developers (myself included) are easy to talk to on IRC ( https://www.namecoin.org/resources/chat/ ).  Not really sure how or when you were trying to contact us, but you posted that right around the time that I was on partial sick leave, so maybe that was a factor.  I definitely try to be approachable (and I don't think I do *too* bad a job at this), but at the same time, if I were spending all my time answering questions on all platforms where people could conceivably try to talk to me, I wouldn't have any time left to write code.  IRC is pretty low-friction and has a decent SNR, so it's probably the best place to ask questions if you want a quick answer from me.

Would be nice if they could address why NMC is not being carried on any major exchanges. If we can get it listed on one of the non-chicom trading sites I suspect we'd witness a major spike in market cap. Maybe they don't want this yet but the project's over 10 years old no?

I'm going to have to agree with BayAreaCoins on this: I'd rather spend my time making Namecoin itself bigger, so that exchanges want to add Namecoin of their own accord.

Meanwhile, we released Electrum-NMC v4.0.0b0: https://www.namecoin.org/2021/12/17/electrum-nmc-v4.0.0b0-released.html

And in particular, this release contains a nice new security enhancement by Yanmaani, which he also upstreamed to Electrum: https://www.namecoin.org/2022/01/07/unix-domain-sockets-in-electrum.html

To me namecoin is better than what people value on web-based exchanges. It's making the entire backbone and structure for the decentralized internet we all want, even if we don't know it. I'm woke. I've seen it in action and I see your plans because my interests aligned with your project before I even knew about it. I've spent my time assisting in Devcoin, but lately I am acquiring as many NMC as I can afford and running a node bc I believe in supporting your fellow Merge Mined OG networks. And btw I value NMC > BTC anyday. What people value in the current day is what they're told bc this web 2.0 media state of affairs and society as a whole having the wool over their eyes - because of the propaganda in the palm of their hands 24 hours a day makes them miss out on what they need. They don't critically think or make their own decisions on what they NEED. They do as they are told, they think they need what they are influenced to believe they need.. but I was lucky to wake up from that world. This is the infrastructure of a new dawn. And I wanted to thank you personally. BTW I just registered on the phpBB - haven't seen one of those since I was looking at web archives of the pre-Bitcoin exchange use of MtGox lol. Ironically, Mark Karpeles is in love with php too. And Mark Zuckerberg was once as well. I love forums... the Web 1.0-2.0 transition I spent childhood days posting on Showdowncards dot com for the MLB trading card game made by the same Wizards of the Coast that made MTG cards - Funny sometimes it feels like I'm in a loop. God speed to Namecoin. Long live FOSS and decentralized P2P mesh networks and liberating protocols from the man.

HORIZON's native coin, HZ, is no longer on any well-known, web-based exchanges.

This is actually an opportunity for us, since it means  lot of people are likely to consider the coin dead and thus possibly be willing to part with them cheaply since afterall they are presumably worthless now in their eyes.

Accordingly, I am interested in buying HZ. Please contact me in private message on this forum if you have some you wish to part with.

-MarkM-

MarkM,

I think this topic is due an update. I realize now what you've done here by periodically editing posts without actually indicating what has been edited when. I also realize that the currency contracts laucnhed initially "broken" as you put it so that new "correct" hashes (contract file names) were implemented chronologically later and that the exchanging for the older pairs may not be correctly kept in your accounting of historical transactions for whatever reason - you're always so abstract. So that's okay because I don't expect the "gamemaster" to give away all their game theory and secrets.

It also appears since the OT server you set up ran from your home where your old isp.knowork.com ISP service operated you may very well have some of the very knowledge you wanted to protect your server and private keys from about other entities that may have used your home ISP business/services in the past. One can only wonder what that means - but I expect you have a good idea as you were doing it in the Web 1.0 era - which is why I make my bets on your system as hard as it is to understand.

I also have come to realize you are right about people's perception these Web 2.0 era HTML/CSS websites "web-based" exchanges not listing a coin makes them think they are valueless but that's also a false flag. They could be valued because systems like your own are still in "[Private Alpha]" - or because your server doesn't "advertise" what OT currency contracts exist within its network - or because they are "blockchain-based" and blockchain coins. Blockchain doesn't need the Web, and you can even circumvent the web with many programs since built that only require you to run a node/qt-wallet and then you can trade using other programs (all Open Source) to transact P2P, or completely without web/just an internet connection required. And of course that all is another problem with market-based "price" of certain coins because places like CoinMarketCap.com and CoinGecko.com and their apps and various "prices" are just aggregated from the exchanges they choose to gather data via API relay etc... so the prices people pay are possibly very wrong, whether too much OR in Devcoin's case... far too cheap. And since you built an entire virtual game currency/stock/asset etc experience here and its running as far as I know where you are the point of centralized knowledge, I will quote you on why these blockchain coins do not benefit from your game economics. You said it yourself that DigiDVC and DigiBTC any "digi-coin" you're using is worthless, has no real value because its just entries in a ledger of debit and credit. Like your Cyclos DVCBank. It's accounting, but not actual blockchain coins with a fiat value. By "burying" or "freezing" your real blockchain coins and only issuing 50% of what you claim to own, you've locked a lot of DVC into an economy that has a server not advertising its currency contracts and contracts that have had problems with what you call "correct or wrong" hash because of other people who imported them via their client with whitespace... I would also say whoever Fellow Traveller is, its interesting that he mentioned how nice it was for his OT client and OT server to work through someone elses physical hardware. Not sure the meaning technically but I assume he too is someone that factors into why your accounting as complex as it is with its plots and its latestrates-include file all of which you put on your own self-hosted "knotwork.com" sites is still incorrectly valued. I also believe that treasuries mean we must work backwards. If at launch your digiDVC backing the "treasury" of the one million issued shares of 18,200,000 dDVC then if I just pretend that's all that you had at that point in time you would have had 36,400,000 actual DVC or DeVCoins in your blockchain wallet.

There's since been other platforms and very confusing but also not surprising abstractions but I do believe your independent hosting and SOME centralization in a decentralized world is good in the hands of the right people. Also, GameFi and Virtual Worlds are the next part of blockchain coins, tokens, and the Web 3.0 right? So any updates here would be nice. Also I can't run my own horizon java applet/server anymore. It's stuck on "Downloading Blockchain" but it never moves past November 12, 2021 Sad

I am on the old wallet also because when I put the wallet .dat in the new client it won't sync or even get a connection but old wallet is working.

I thought the seeds were hardcoded the newest version works fine with me. You could also try syncing clean with the new then importing your private keys into it so the balance would be in your new wallet then backup and save the wallet.dat?

I asked where’s our coins but Archimedes just ignored the question.

Game theory leads me to believe he is an emulation of a recurring theme in cryptocurrencies/blockchain coins and their network of leaders and participants. They "disappear"...

Here's some hopium for everything in MarkM's metagame treasury (IXC and DVC big parts of such a metagame):

Quote
Individuals who go to the marketplace with a more salable medium of exchange will have a higher probability of being able to exchange it for the goods that they want for consumption, as opposed to individuals who go there with less saleable goods, exactly because of this difference. As such, money can be described as the most salable good. It is not, however, impossible for two goods to be regarded as commonly used media of exchange. One historical example would be that of gold and silver, which were used as money simultaneously. Although possible, the outcome of this involves disadvantages and complicates the process of exchange, which reinforces the belief that bitcoin, as superior money, will turn out victorious in the market for facilitating exchange.
https://bitcoinmagazine.com/culture/the-emergence-of-bitcoin-through-the-lens-of-austrian-economics

The hopium being, everyone chasing BTC because of its ability to be disposed of for what is now likely fiat (USD or EUR per say)... to buy goods of consumption (hard to buy cars and houses in BTC STILL ... compared to fiat currencies/legal tenders (having to be accepted by mandate)...

Ok so stay with me. What if DVC being the most granular currency and IXC being in its treasury and highly praised by MarkM and adopted for his Galactic Milieu game becomes adopted for the more publicly recognized (well yet to be recognized) system adopted (it is Open Source) for Facebook's (Meta Platforms Inc.) "Metaverse"... Markm says they keep coming around to his ideas and I agree with him. Maybe once those coins are able to be used inside of this 3 Trillion Dollar est. value Metaverse then they will be more sought than fiat currencies to be used in effort to buy Metaverse sought after consumables.

Not that hard to see now. Maybe not specifically our coins being used or adopted, but possible - because easy to see people's behavior changing with the times in terms of what they will exchange their BTC or maybe onboard their $ for if "x"-coin (just a variable meaning a main metaverse coin denomination) is the base of exchange to acquire all  these Metaverse consumables. Idk, might be a long shot but why not. plenty of security in those chains. Plenty of reason for Facebook to bring "in" external blockchain coins for use in their "game"/"verse" FB-verse/meta-verse... It's actually something looking back at prototypes for Huntercoin and similar post-Galactic milieu blockchain space games that a few Bitcoiners even recommended. Like Luke Dash Jr. - fellow warrior in Christ, seems like a wingnut but is prob a genius and we're all stupid - he recommended that external currencies be used by the eventual person responsible for launching Huntercoin. But I digress..

Save me some time here...

What's your end game Vlad? Smiley

Not to spam, and MOD gfy if I can't post three different times all I do to pimp this opportunity. But...

Remember Ixcoin 0.14.1 changed blocksize and added SegWit? Even possibly giving back the merge mined coins for a subsidy=1. Well... all those make a Hard Fork. Then you dev disappears. I think that's why old software and CEX purposely hold the valuable UTXO base layer chains with the most hash hostage. They need to bridge those coins perhaps. Maybe there is something when you take a "pre-mine" which was done with code for Ixcoin when it was using Multicoin by sacarlson thru a wallet that didn't hardcode but changed the CONF file to make Ixcoin work in Multicoin. It would do what TBX did, Subsidy=570000 or whatever premine was but it would be on a block and then the next block would be the part when the post_Subsidy=96 per block would begin. So essentially someone who gave it back had to have a key... but I think you definitely forked. And there's an old Ixcoin chain out there maybe detracting from your value, maybe even renamed to something like BCH because ixcoins could work on any bitcoin third party app... that similar.

We did fork in 2 but we never got our equal amount like the other forks.  For a while there was a block explorer with the forked chain and it was being mined.

I think we’ll merge eventually and have a dual coin wallet (duality) ix/xi.  So I doubt anyone hijacjed it, out of site out of mind.  Good deductions tho, Dan.  Now I’m excited to work with you.  And I see triggering me wasn’t you, I just underestimated you and you got me.  Lol

Vlad

Syscoin had a Syscoin-Old chain run too after a fork... hrmmm. If you didn't get the new coins then maybe it was a network fork and not a chain fork?

Web 2.0/3.0 is starting to reveal in the media things on OUR SHA-256 MM "dead chains" but we are just now seeing mainstream reporting on the "Twitter Eggs from Namecoin" with its EmblemVault wallet on Namecoin blocks and the ERC-721 Container or the Vault created on Emblem.Finance - it's "wrapped on Namecoin blocks" it gets sold for 15-80 ETH on OpenSea.

So here's another thing that is tied to the fact these chains at the base layer 1 of SHA-256 and blockchain security, with long "uptime" 11+ years, and heck, useable in game and out of game. I don't read block hashs but I know protocols well. Merge Mining first - Syscoin 4.0 becoming much like our chains all along using the same merkle root as Block 0 for Bitcoin when it launched 4.0 in 2017 and SHA-256 MM now its own bridge to its own separate almost "built from scratch" solidity smart contract chain that can do Ethereum anything but with Bitcoin L1 security. And that security in the words of Satoshi AUGMENTS Bitcoin security/higher difficulty. All benefit. All help secure. All have their own use and all have their own blocks on eachothers. Smiley

ETC over ETH all day. We all know why. Immutability and POW will always live on and when coins that aren't just currency but have a merge mined purpose and longevity/hardness. Well it leads to some value not yet connected to fiat, or people's idea what kind of us - but that use could be ANYTHING. The Internet early on was used at CERN for storing vast amouts of data. TBL was contracted to make a system to organize all that data like a digital library - but he said it was more like a Wiki (social aspect and others could edit as they added to their research) - ENQUIRE. You think people know the Protoweb evolved into all of this? No - we live in a world where wikis are scorned by teachers as non-primary sources but they're really volunteer accumulations of knowledge, social communities with discussions, and collective info that grows way more with the whole world input than just some govt or a few researchers. And TBL knew that. @bstr156 from syscoin quote "We lost the ability to critically think" (I woke up one day. I don't feel so crazy anymore). Smiley

I have been in that space since before the advent of Huntercoin, with my endgame being the full-immersion 3-D interface but starting first with what it is that will eventually be illustrated with full 3-D immersive graphics.

I aimed at strategic / tactical games rather than "twitch games", that is, I aimed for characters whose accuracy, combat abilities and so on are part of the character rather than part of the player.

Remember btc-e... then wex? btc-e first troll box besides charts on a Bitcoin and Altcoin exch. Wex continued with same ui and same chat, but also had a live feed of tweets under the chat. And now? Since you mention twitch and bitcoin bootstrapped while merge mining some blockchain coins in your treasuries even NMC I figure it is important to mention along side live gaming/other broadcasts its chat happens to use IRC original RFC1459 protocol but modified it allows use of your own IRC client. https://dev.twitch.tv/docs/irc/guide/#:~:text=Twitch%20offers%20an%20IRC%20interface%20to%20our%20chat,IRC%20client%20instead%20of%20using%20the%20Web%20interface. Maybe that will help you going forward. Wink if not roll up or backward you are a gordian knot of gordian knots mark. That's for sure. You're my favorite co-founder and developer out there. I'm big on mises, and I love this article about why people used bitcoin software and transacted units before it had value. Maybe this will help others find the Galactic Milieu like me: https://bitcoinmagazine.com/culture/the-emergence-of-bitcoin-through-the-lens-of-austrian-economics

- The current PHP software, while ugly and sub-optimal in many ways, performs well, especially since I have extensively modified the backend to add features and improve performance. So I don't feel much urgency.

Hopefully with security in mind. It must be very tricky to run this ancient version of SMF on a security maintained PHP branche.

I like the fact the community is teaming with users in each forum but I'm still using the same software I used to talk about baseball trading card games before I was in high school at the turn of the millennia. I also don't like alts are 2011 for the most part. I'm a necropurist.

Admins do not regularly read this forum.

If you need to reach us, I recommend using the #bitcoin-wiki channel on freenode IRC

Why don't you circle back then every now and then and have every one leave you a message in a special topic? I go on IRC and you guys are logged on but I hear crickets. =P
