I'm quite happy to see nomad back again... this thread is sure to become far more entertaining now Smiley.  He starts it off with gargling curdled dog semen.  Ahhh... 2017 is starting off well.

I've got the popcorn and am looking forward to the meme wars and creative descriptive phrases sure to be upcoming.  Carry on.

Might have better luck moving this to the alt coin forum...

Hi all,

was just looking back to previous months that have similar total pool PH and see that the pool was getting numerous blocks per day with similar PH,

yet now we seem to think a good day is 1 or 2 blocks found..

Finding it hard to believe how bad our luck is recently.
Might want to take a look at how much the network difficulty has changed.  Constant hash rate will produce fewer blocks as difficulty increases.  So, when the difficulty was 196,061,423,940 in June of last year, you would have found considerably more blocks than you are today with a difficulty of 336,899,932,796.
107  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Mining Pool Skimming on: January 12, 2017, 09:55:29 PM
There's a certain level of trust between miners and pool operators.  Pool operators - at least the honest ones - are transparent with their operation.  For example, you'll see published generation addresses, coinbase signatures, etc.  That's not to say there aren't bad actors out there.  Scammers will get people mining on their pool, only to steal the block reward.  They don't last long, but the damage is done.

Most mining hardware interfaces will indeed show the highest share found, which is a good indicator of whether or not that gear found a block.  Also, most miners are very quick to point out any discrepancies.

So... is it possible?  Sure.  But those pools don't last long once people realize they're being ripped off.
108  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [150TH] [PPLNS 0.5%] Jonny's Mining Emporium (bravo-mining.com) on: January 12, 2017, 09:07:31 PM
The pool's coin daemons have been updated to 0.13.2.  There was no downtime.

In other news, I've been working with some folks to get more hash pointed here.  Right now I've got a potential commitment of 1.5PH.  Not a whole lot in the grand scheme of things, but certainly a far better base hash rate than what we've currently got.

Also stay tuned... another promo giveaway is likely to happen shortly Tongue

If anyone will disprove concavity of the earth Ill give him 0.25btc. I challenge you.

Explain planets, moons, stars, galaxies, men orbiting the Earth on the ISS, man made probes sent into space, and so on...
No worries, keep the coins... use them for your pills, it seems you need them badly!  Roll Eyes

And, please, don't start crying "ISS is fake", "Space is fake" etc... we have the flat earthers dumb people already...  Wink

Im not sure if ISS is fake. There are satelites that think they go around the earth but its the illusion because its the heavens that rotate not the earth. Its easily provable that the earth is not rotating as the earth on the official theory goes faster than the planes so they should move faster in some direction and slower in other directions. They fly in every direction at the same speed.

Galaxies are observed to have a pattern of heat that are symetrical to the rotation of the sky - in official theory its to the earth equator. Galaxies are just gas heat of some sort. So they came up with some stories that have to be this this and if something else is this this and this. They dont know neither do I what those are. It at least suggest that earth is the most important point of the refference in the universe. Im sorry but thats how it is. Maybe you can google the stuff. If you wont Ill try to research it.

Stars are... well. Im not sure. Those apears to be some kind of connected by plasma with the center of the earth, or at least they are just a displayed on the karman line other words the glass of heaven. Yes even the official scientists aknowledge the karmans line. Its the place where things burn in the atmosphere. Officially. Unofficialy because of a clash on some more hard burnable surface.

Moon is a some kind of a disc. Possibly it was one with the sun. It might be the second half of the sun making it one ballish kind of object.

Planets might be - my guess, some kind of living creatures. But thats only my hyphotesis. Those might be seraphins. It might not be coincidence that ancient people where worshiping planets as gods. There is no vacuum in the sky. Scientist admitt that rockets cant work in the vacuum. Some concave earth theorist to name one. Mariusz Szczytynski, thinks those are some descending objects falling from the sky on the heaven vortex. Some of the like Saturn might be ascending as it was reported for it to be biger and closer to the Earth.

Man made travels to space? There were many failures and there were pictures of a huge man burned into a small crisp when trying to break the karmans line on the way back. Those are extremely risky missions thats why flat earthers smile that nasa fake some manned space missions. Those are too risky and too expensive to be done regurarly, but people love it and there is a money in it. So they fake it. It doesnt mean its impossible.
WTF?

At least the flat earth followers attempt to use some kind of science to support things.  Or they provide funny videos and GIFs.

Your statements:
 * It's the sky rotating, not the earth
 * Galaxies are just some kind of gas heat
 * Stars (of which galaxies are composed) are some kind of plasma somethings connected to the center of the earth - wait... center of the earth?  If we are living on the inside of a giant sphere, then wouldn't the "center" just be the sky?
 * Planets are living creatures???
 * Rockets can't work in vacuum
 * Some planets are falling, but other planets are ascending
 * A giant burned to a crisp, but space is good income so they just keep on faking it to make money

There have been some far out theories proposed in this thread, and some impressive trolling with outstanding creativity... come back when you've at least got a few good memes to share.  Like, one with a living planet would be good (Unicron anyone?)

Back to our regularly scheduled programming... where are notbatman, nomad and the others?  Hopefully they're coming up with some new material Smiley
110  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Questions from a newbie! on: January 10, 2017, 05:23:45 PM
1) The question of profit is not answerable by anyone but you.  Does it cost you more to run that S3 than you are making?  If yes, then you'll never profit.  The pool on which you are mining is not the primary factor here.
2) When mining BTC you can easily find out the expected earnings for your hash rate.  These are expectations, not absolute truth.  Sometimes you earn more.  Sometimes you earn less.  There's no gaming the system.  You can't suddenly expect to make more coin given the same conditions, using the same hardware.  You could try mining different coins and hope they make you more profit than mining BTC, but that's another forum topic Smiley
3) Ranking up takes time and posts.  See here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0
4) The trust system is based on feedback from other users.  It can be positive, neutral or negative.  Neutral has no effect on score.  If you are providing goods or services to other forum users, they have the ability to leave feedback to tell others how things went.  If you do a good job, you'll be rewarded with positive feedback.  Do bad things, and you'll see negative trust.  See here for more details: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=211858.0
111  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Giving up real solomining and going back to solomining on p2pool on: January 09, 2017, 08:09:41 PM
I've not used MRR for quite some time so things may have changed.  However, when I did use them, there was a method by which the renter/seller could communicate directly with each other to try and rectify any hash rate discrepancies - typically the seller would add some time to the end of the rental to make up for the discrepancy.  Also, MRR support tickets were very quickly answered.  If you haven't already, I'd suggest opening a support ticket with MRR so they can evaluate the advertised vs actual hash rates for you.
112  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Giving up real solomining and going back to solomining on p2pool on: January 09, 2017, 06:45:35 PM
That's the problem with the NH model - there's no guarantee of when you'll actually be hashing.  MRR takes the opposite approach.  You get a known timeframe of hashing which cannot be outbid.  You pick the rigs you want and the time you want them.
113  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [25+PH] Kano CKPool kano.is 0.9% PPLNS US,DE,SG,JP,NL,NYA on: January 08, 2017, 05:27:27 PM
Heh jonnybravo0311 you made a mistake in there, you left 'next' out before '3' in the last line.

Don't forget there's 2 different questions.
1) The next 3 blocks
2) 3 blocks in a row.

The actual reason why I gave the stats at the bottom of the last page is coz it makes it glaringly obvious that indeed the first block (with no specification of 'when') is a 1 in 1 chance Smiley
No way could we have done it 40 times if the first blocks wasn't 1 in 1.
That's correct.  I only answered the "3 blocks in a row" question.  If I have 1% of the total hash, the chances of me finding the next 3 in a row are 1 in 1,000,000.  However, if I've already found 1 block, then it's a 1 in 10,000 chance of me finding 2 more in a row and if I've found 2 blocks, then it's a 1 in 100 chance of me finding the third.

Your stats prove it out.  Since you've already found that first block (effectively 100%), then with 3% the chances of you finding that next block are 1 in 33.3333...
114  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [25+PH] Kano CKPool kano.is 0.9% PPLNS US,DE,SG,JP,NL,NYA on: January 08, 2017, 05:00:39 PM
@Kano:
I am now as confused as can be about probability statistics. I'm no expert, by any stretch of the imagination, but I clearly remember from Statistics 1 class (over 40 years ago!), that the probability of flipping a coin and getting 2 heads in a row = probability of flipping a head x probability of flipping a head. That is, .5 x .5 = .25
However, once I have flipped a head, then probability of flipping another head (for two in a row) is simply .25 (the coin has no memory of what happened before). So I guess what you are saying regarding finding 2 blocks in a row is that we assume we can find a block (flip a head), and once we do, then the probability of finding the next block is simply our given probability (based on our percent of total network hash) that we can find a block.
Then would it not hold true that once we find 2 blocks in a row, that the probability of finding the third block is also our given probability of finding a block? This is where my brain gets tied in a knot.

Anyway, as Carl says, After 20+ hours of not finding any blocks, I'd be happy with find that 1st block!  Smiley
Mine on!
It's the "in a row" bit that matters.  Forget about blocks and use your coin example.

Probability of me getting heads on a flip?  50%.
Probability of me getting 2 heads in a row? .5 *.5 = .25 = 25%
Probability of me getting 3 heads in a row? .5 * .5 * .5 = .125 = 12.5%

At the end of each flip, the probability of me getting heads on the next flip remains 50% because as you correctly wrote, the coin has no memory.

Now if we go back to blocks and assume we have 1% of the world's hash, then we have a 1% chance of finding the next block.  Finding the next 2 blocks in a row is .01 * .01 = .0001 chance.  Finding the next three in a row is .01 * .01 * .01 = 0.000001 - exactly as Phil wrote in his comment.  Remember, after every block find (regardless of who found it) I always have a 1% chance of finding the next one.  So, even if I've already found the previous 2 blocks, I've still got a 1% shot of finding this next one.  It's just that the probability of me finding the 3 in a row is 1 in 1,000,000.

Hey PublicP2poolNode.
Im giving your strategy a quick trial.
I think (rather hope) that the pool might grab a block in the next day or so.
Ive just managed to rent 50TH to throw at a node over in the states.
If this can get some shares in the next 12 hours and we get a block after that, hopefully it might work.
Wish me luck.
Good luck.  Because that's what it is: luck.  There is no strategy.  The future cannot be predicted.  There is no such thing as "the pool is due to hit".  We all wish that were the case, but a pool that has 1% of expected shares has just as much of a chance that the next share is a block as a pool that has 1000% of expected shares.

Always fun to gamble, though because you might hit the big one Smiley.

Interesting concept, wk.  I'm a bit confused how the "sell-a-share" thing would work in practice.  If I read your description correctly, if I wish to sell shares, I must have already mined those shares.  I'm not selling based on my hashing power, but rather what I've already hashed and recorded in your share log.

Is there a limit on when those shares can be sold?  For example, a share that is about to drop out of the 8N window is certainly worth less to a potential buyer than a share that has just been added.  I, as the seller, have potentially already been paid N times for an old share.

Using your hypothetical example of 1000 shares worth 1BTC, isn't that 1BTC over the lifetime of those shares?  Some of that 1BTC has already been paid to me as the miner prior to my sale.  How is a buyer supposed to know the age of the shares being sold, and whether or not the value proposition is there to engage in the transaction with the seller?

Speaking of the white stuff... gotta go out and get the snowblower running.  Got a few inches to clear from the driveway Smiley

What part of NH? I used to live in Greenville, and have friends that live in Francestown, Derry, Manchester, Amherst, and Keene.

I grew up in Bedford and Manchester.  I haven't lived in NH for years, though.
118  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Giving up real solomining and going back to solomining on p2pool on: January 07, 2017, 07:04:57 PM
That and they just don't have the equipment to deal with it.  I remember a few years ago being on a project in Research Triangle.  I flew in on Monday morning and it was snowing.  I rented a car and drove to the client's office.  Parking lot was empty.  Headed into the office and the only one there was a security guard.  He asked why I was in the office and said it was closed due to the snow.  OK... I took off and went to the hotel.  The next day, I went back to the office.  Parking lot empty again.  Same security guard sees me and says the office is still closed.  I asked him why and he said because of the snow.  The snow?  It had snowed about 2 inches the day before.  Barely even noticeable.

By the third day, things were still not open.  I heard horror stories about how roads were closed and it was like a state of emergency.  This was from 2 inches of the stuff.  Being from NH I was completely unfazed by it, but everyone there talked of it like the apocalypse had happened.

Speaking of the white stuff... gotta go out and get the snowblower running.  Got a few inches to clear from the driveway Smiley

I haven't mined on Eligius since early 2014 and received a payout.  Had I known I even had a balance, I would have told you to keep it as a donation wizkid057.  At 0.0007BTC it certainly isn't much, but a satoshi is a satoshi.

Do you have a donation address for me to send this back to?

Thanks!

My Bitmain hardware experience...

S1 - solid as a rock.  Had them overclocked at 200GH each and they hummed along happily with no issues ever.
S2 - delicate.  If you managed to get units undamaged, and if you didn't manage to blow up the crap PSU it came with, and if you had perfect temperatures, and if you didn't look at it the wrong way, and if you didn't mine on p2pool, then it would work.
S3 - flaky. They were finicky as hell, and you had to find the "sweet spot".  Some hashed at advertised speeds, some hashed lower, others higher.  Once you found that sweet sport, they were pretty solid.  Occasional "x" that a cold boot would solve.  Random occasional restarts.  They definitely lasted forever (I have 8 in my basement that still hash when I power them up).
S5 - lousy.  They'd hash solid for a bit, then start to fail.  Random "x" and "-" would appear.  Then the entire board would crap out.  Sometimes a full cold boot would fix things for a bit.  Other times, nothing would work.

I never owned any Bitmain gear after the S5.  Their garbage software hacks combined with their blatantly misleading and false claims on their pools was enough to keep me away.
