You still need a regular PSU to power the motherboard, CPU etc though.

Well, actually you can use a PicoPSU to power the motherboard and CPU.
102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Advice for GPU mining frames on: August 17, 2017, 03:10:16 AM
Hello friends,

I could use some advice as to which is the best material to use for the frame for my GPU mining rig.  I have thought about metal, PVC, wood, and plastic.  Which is the best of these or is there something even better?

Thanks,
Huck

I use and recommend Spotswood Computer Cases open air mining frames.  Check those out and save yourself a lot of pain.
103  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which server PSUs would you like to mount in your 4U Rosewill case? on: August 14, 2017, 08:13:49 AM
Can anyone share the dimensions of the HP 1200/1500W PSU's and the breakout boards please.

I don't have any on hand, and I'm trying to work out if you can fit 2 of them where the ATX PSU goes in these 4U cases Smiley
They could be either side by side or stacked on top of each other.

I can get the exact dimensions tomorrow.  You'll have to space them apart if you stack them to give clearance for the cables on the bottom HP PSU.  Maybe you could reuse one of the server fan/hd cages.

Flip them sideways and then rotate them so the breakout boards are back to back.
104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining ETH onto Ledger Nano S on: August 14, 2017, 05:44:42 AM
Hello again,

Is it possible to use my ledger nano S address in my batch file to send my ETH there from ethermine?
Cheers

It would work for receiving ethers but when you spend, it'll be super slow because the ledger has to sign all the inputs again.  The CPU in the ledger is super slow compared to a PC.  If I were you I would collect all the ethers in a PC wallet first then send a bigger chunk to the ledger.

The other thing that you could do is increase the payout threshold via your pool to get larger amounts sent to the wallet in each transaction.

111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Parallel Miner 2400w PSU - questions / input requested on: July 31, 2017, 07:38:08 AM
I contacted parallel miner to know if the 6 pin sockets from their psu's are 150w or 75w. They couldnt answer me that. Im not sure because with the psu I got the 6pin to 6+2 pin cables, so in theory it should be 150w, right?

Other question: will the gpus work connecting the risers to the atx psu and the gpus to the 2400w psu? If not I would have to wait for another 3 weeks to start the rig, i have currently molex risers....

You need to use PCIe risers with 6-pin PCIe power connectors.

116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8 - 11 GPU Rig, which PSUs to choose? on: June 29, 2017, 04:13:59 AM
I've had multiple systems with 11 x NVIDIA 1080 Ti's and 11 x AMD RX 580's running simultaneously without any issues.
Could you please tell me, which components you used at the Nvidia system?
Why don't you run that systems any longer?

Who says I don't run the systems any longer?

SMC X9DRX motherboards
EVGA 1200W PSUs
PCIe Version 007S risers
NVIDIA 1080 Ti FE GPUs
Sapphire AMD RX 580 GPUs
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Add2PSU adapters

Nothing particularly special or out of the ordinary there.
117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8 - 11 GPU Rig, which PSUs to choose? on: June 28, 2017, 03:06:12 AM
Nvidia cards do not work with PCIe splitters as far as I've seen.  If you get a ASUS Prime z170-A or Pro you can probably get 7 cards working, but you'd need to likely have 2 - 850W+ PSU's in order to not fully max them.  A single 1500W might work as well, but you'd likely be pushing it.

Make sure you have a 20A breaker on the circuit you use or split between two circuits.
Thanks for that information.
Wyh do you think only 7 cards will work on Asus Z170-A? It has 7 PCIe ports + 2 M.2 slots. The M.2 to PCIe adapter is an "adapter" not a splitter, so at least 8 cards should be possible (i thought). Or am I wrong?
Why the 20A breaker? You mean the thing in the fuse box?

People have struggled getting that many Nvidia cards working simultaneously.  You might be able to get 8 working, but it will likely take a lot of fiddling and may not work.   Nvidia's draw more power and require more PCI-E resource channels than AMD cards so at least on Windows it tends to complain and although will see the card may not work properly.  Look around there are plenty of people who have tried to do what you are doing, but as I've said I haven't seen a lot of luck with more than 6-7 Nvidia cards at once on the same system.

As for the 20A breaker it's because you will get roughly 1800W of total power at 100% load out of a 15Amp breaker.

Assuming you're in the US with standard 120v home power.
Ohm's law = 15 amps x 120 volts = 1,800 watts

You don't want to run at full power otherwise you run the risk of popping the breaker when you have power spikes and such.  Circuits can also get hot and cause fires if they are run too close to maximum capacity 24/7.  It's just better to be safe than sorry IMO.  There have been plenty of stories of people having meltdowns/fires because they didn't pay attention to how much power they were trying to draw, especially on older wiring.  Also I presume you will have things like a monitor for setup and potentially fans running for cooling that will likely be on the same circuit.  All of those things take more power and even though you may plug them into different outlets most home power circuits will have all the outlets in a room on the same circuit.  Most home breakers are only 15A unless you are looking at a utility, laundry, or kitchen.

I've had multiple systems with 11 x NVIDIA 1080 Ti's and 11 x AMD RX 580's running simultaneously without any issues.
118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Pandaminer B3+ Review - Why you should never buy a Pandaminer B3+ / B1 on: June 26, 2017, 12:23:39 PM
How is ethOS working out for you?

anyone get their panda problems solver by using eliosvp's solutions?

eliovp is the only hope for those freaking panda miners lol, he has customer support, panda should hire him.
https://youtu.be/s4_6WdIRSE0

I haven't made an update video on my latest stuff but basically that one ended up working properly on a proper PSU w/ PandamOS

Nice, I feel you're pain.  Bought 20 of them and have had a few issues with flaky GPU's and their pirate Chinese Windows 10.  Replaced Windows 10 with EthOS which fixed the OS issue.

Next up is to replace the PSU's with 2400W Parallel Miner kits that I bought (http://www.parallelminer.com/product/2400-watt-power-supply-kit-for-gpu-mining-94-efficiency-200-240v-ethereum-eth-zec-dash/).  Each 2400W PSU has a 16 x 8-pin PCIe power outlet breakout board meaning you'll be able to power 2 x Pandaminers off each one once you under-volt and optimise the GPU BIOS and core clock-speed.
119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Critique My Hardware Choices, 6 1080ti Rig on: June 25, 2017, 11:58:20 AM
Couple of ideas:
  • Use EthOS instead of Windows, it comes pre-installed on a 16GB USB stick for 39 USD.  You'll save a substantial amount vs Windows 10 and a 120GB SSD.
  • Use a Gigabyte GA-Z270P-D3 board instead, normally available for 105-110 USD

I have a couple problems with an OS like EthOS, one the biggest seems to be it's aimed at AMD products. There are no guarantees for Nvidia GPUs in the marketing anyway.

Second would be the ease of use if I wanted to do something obscure. I doubt I"m savvy enough to be a first adopter of anything in this space. I need easy to use tools to help me if I don't have a guide.

As to the motherboard, do you think I"m just overspending. Both are as good as the other? Or the specific model you recommended is just more widely used in this context than the carbon?

I only recommend them as I have quite a few and know they work Smiley

As for the power supplies, use a server PSU kit like this 1500W version:
http://www.parallelminer.com/product/gpu-mining-power-supply-kit-hp-1500-watt-94-platinum/
