101  Other / Off-topic / Re: Question for business starting with BTC on: June 07, 2014, 02:40:54 AM
There are plenty of sites that give you the option of paying with PayPal, CC or bitcoins. PayPal only disallows buying or selling bitcoins directly using their service.

Using new addresses for all Bitcoin transactions is the best way to track payments. I generate a few thousand at a time and load them into a database to be presented at checkout. Why re-use addresses when it cost nothing to get a new one and avoid all possibility of confusion?
102  Other / Meta / Re: Donators on: June 01, 2014, 07:00:51 PM
I doubt many will be happy even if it's the greatest and most revolutionary forum software to have ever been created. Would you be happy shelling out £64k for it?  Cheesy I think whenever it arrives it'll seem disappointing because it's been hyped and in the making for so long, though I'm looking forward to it.

If I donated 50 BTC out of my hypothetical stash of 5000 BTC I could possibly let it slide haha.

It would be nice if the donators got back their share of the remaining funds raised back. But I doubt that would happen, or how they might even go about doing such a thing.

I don't expect any return on any donation I've ever contributed, to this forum or otherwise. Once I send the funds, they no longer belong to me but to the recipient to do with as they wish. If I'm unhappy with how they spend them, that just means I should have done more to insure they would be handled in an appropriate manner.
103  Other / Meta / Re: Donators on: June 01, 2014, 12:07:31 AM
You would think the price would come down. Imagine when Bitcoin hits $10k that would be half a million dollars.  Shocked

I'm glad theymos hasn't lowered the donation amount. The forum already has more than enough funds to support itself indefinitely and apparently solicit custom software worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
104  Economy / Services / Re: What would you like to see at the Bitcoin General Store? on: May 31, 2014, 04:03:44 PM
What about some more electronics? That is what caught my eye the first time I visited.

Anything in particular? Gadgets or computer accessories or something else?
105  Economy / Services / What would you like to see at the Bitcoin General Store? on: May 31, 2014, 03:43:56 PM
We at the Bitcoin General Store are looking for some quality products to buy with bitcoins.

The BGS is working hard at closing the loop within the Bitcoin economy, buying almost all our inventory exclusively with bitcoins. We buy in bulk to keep our prices competitive and take no pre-orders.

Do you know someone who crafts or sells items bitcoiners would be interested in if only they knew about them? Do you want to buy from a producer outside the US but international shipping charges make it impractical? Let us know! Post a response, send me a PM here or use the Contact page to tell me who we should be in touch with.
106  Other / Meta / Re: Donators on: May 31, 2014, 03:08:12 PM
Hi,
Recently i clicked by mistake on the donate button waht i saw was that there is almost 100 people donated about 10 BTC each to the forum and also 20-30 people donated about 50 BTC each! This thing is HUGE! Are those people donated in the early days of BTC? 50 BTC nowadays costs like 31 000$! This is big donation for sure!  Shocked Shocked Shocked
Wish i was able to donate about 50 BTC :/
BR

If I remember correctly, I donated when they were worth about $10 each, so my donation came out to around $100. It was a while ago so I could be wrong but that seems like the max I would give at any one time.
107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Idea for a physical shop on: May 28, 2014, 06:52:45 PM
It would be easier to create a pre-funded account before you begin shopping that gets debited as you choose each item (Bitcoin benefit = no identifying info required). Once you're done, you decide whether you want the balance refunded to your wallet or stored until your next visit.
108  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: North American Bitcoin Conference Coming to Chi-Town on: May 23, 2014, 03:58:41 PM
Looks like a lot of great speakers.

Are people going to this? What kind of turn out is expected?

Registration is cheaper than some other Bitcoin events and Chicago is centrally located, which means easier travel for many Americans. I'd be surprised if less than 1,000 showed.

Looks like they'll have plenty of space for it: http://www.mccormickplace.com/floor-plans/south/south-building.php

McCormick Place South Building

The South Building is designed to service events that offer extensive exhibit as well as meeting activities. Highlights include:

Hall A that provides a total of 840,000 square feet of exhibit space. When used inconjunction with the North Building, shows can span 1.2 million square feet of exhibit space on one level.

Forty three meeting rooms that provide 156,000 square feet of space

The Grand and Vista Ballrooms – one at 33,740 square feet and a second at 21,365 square feet – both with extensive pre-function area
109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Double Spending for BTC businesses - Best practice Solutions BIP 70 ? on: May 23, 2014, 03:48:14 PM
- No checking software available?

There is, it's called the Bitcoin protocol.

Seriously, this is the purpose of mining - to relay and validate transactions.

- Wonder how Coinbase instantly validates?

Same way everyone else does.

- Don't really want to create a bias implementing "Limits" / We want to be just as rapid for larger volume transactions.

You are limited by the network. Is one confirmation really too long to wait?
110  Economy / Marketplace / Re: I will give you 1 BTC right now [PAID] on: May 23, 2014, 03:18:48 PM
Too bad I'm just seeing this thread now, I would have sold you a ton of stuff at a deep discount from https://bitcoingeneralstore.com/

edit: Just saw that you live in London so shipping would have eaten up a chunk of that BTC.
111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on the road? on: May 23, 2014, 12:40:57 PM
Edit: I'll make the blog and start posting some pictures of my work tonight or tomorrow.

Recently I had a project idea in mind and I was wondering if the community would be willing to crowdfund the idea?

Basically I have an RV I'm fixing up right now and I'd like to hit the road fulltime and get new businesses to start accepting bitcoin.

That's the basics. I'd keep a blog and expense report publicly archived.

Thoughts?

Could go one of two ways. I crowdfund the price of current fixes to the RV and hit the road on my own dime but charge a small fee to start businesses up and pay my expenses. Or I crowdfund a larger amount and I make a preset "tour" route. Where I can talk to people and meetup along the way those that donate/want me to speak on what issues I faced getting businesses to accept BTC.

I wouldn't count on charging businesses to set them up accepting BTC. To me, this would make it seem like you're only trying to get them to accept it so that you can then make a few bucks.

Put a QR code on your vehicle and try to coordinate with Bitcoin meetups in the cities you visit. It doesn't have to be as nice as Jason King's but you'll probably get more funding from bitcoiners you run into along the way.

By getting to know the local Bitcoin community in areas you pass through, you also build a network of "support techs" for the businesses you do convince.

If I were doing this, I would put most of my effort in arranging a "kickoff party" with the nearest Bitcoin meetup group of any substantial size. Make them your first stop and use social media to spread the word.
112  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin ever reach $1000 dollars again? on: May 22, 2014, 02:30:27 PM
Surely a drastic rise will result in the need for a change of denomination though. I can't imagine an average person wanting to make a $1 purchase with 0.000001BTC, for example, it would just seem wrong

There are plenty of discussions regarding this issue but we already have the satoshi. For the example you gave 0.0000001 BTC = 10 satoshis.
113  Economy / Service Discussion / Pizza Day Sale! on: May 22, 2014, 01:15:39 PM
In honor of the infamous 10,000 BTC pizzas, the Bitcoin General Store is offering a 10% discount on all orders with the Coupon Code PIZZADAY for today (May 22nd) only.

What can you buy at the Bitcoin General Store, you ask?

Currently, at the Bitcoin General Store, you can buy

Bitcoin Caps

CryptoCurrency T-Shirts

Honey Products

Lasers

And much more!
114  Other / Archival / Re: zip on: May 22, 2014, 12:20:31 PM
I'm willing to donate some caps on behalf of the Bitcoin General Store.

Every time a winner is chosen I will PM them a one-time code to use at https://bitcoingeneralstore.com/ for one free cap. (Winners outside the US will have to pay shipping, unfortunately.)
115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lets sponsorhip something cool! on: May 06, 2014, 01:38:58 PM
Bitcointalk could sponsor Elsa Hammond. She'll be participating in The Great Pacific Race and she accepts Bitcoin donations.
116  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Blockchain.info Wallet - Unauthroized Transaction on: May 01, 2014, 06:10:04 PM
I was thinking about joining blockchain.info but I've read a few of these horror stories lately...how could someone possibly get through a 2FA account?  I thought you would need the mobiel device to withdraw?

You have several options for two factor authentication with blockchain.info. You can use SMS, email, Yubikey or Google authenticator.

Using 2FA just means a hacker has to work that much harder to access your account; it doesn't make it impossible.
117  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Over 1000 Activity Thread! on: May 01, 2014, 01:08:30 PM
Woot woot!

Today I joined a very exclusive group - those members who have an activity count over 1000!   Grin

Not wanting to brag (well, kind of), post here if you also have an activity over 1000!

Thanks to the Bitcointalk community for letting this happen!

 Smiley

Very impressive, congratulations; how many of you is there? I can only speculate from here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=mlist

You can sort by the number of posts. Only posters with 1000 posts or more who joined before August 2011 could possibly have achieved that activity. It doesn't guarantee that they have, but it does significantly reduce the pool of possible members.
118  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Over 1000 Activity Thread! on: May 01, 2014, 11:03:36 AM
Congratulations, Vod.

I didn't notice when I passed 1000 activity but it must have been a couple of months ago. Funny thing is, I'm not a prolific poster, I just happen to average about one post a day on a consistent basis.

Maybe there should be a new category like "Active Hero Member."
119  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Texas Gets it Right! on: May 01, 2014, 10:53:05 AM
Does this happen because Texas is represented by Ron Paul, one of the biggest supporters of the crypto currencies?

Ron Paul doesn't currently represent any Texas districts. I think this is more a case of the individuals making these decisions in the Texas DOB having some good sense and taking the time to understand cryptocurrencies before trying to shoehorn them into antiquated categories.

'Half-breed' is a term used for genetically impure / mongrel dogs (amongst other animals). It's a slur when you apply if to humans and so is 'mongrel'.

half′-breed`
n., adj.
usage: This term is usually used with disparaging intent and perceived as insulting, implying that a person of mixed race is somehow different or inferior. However, half-breed is also used as a neutral descriptive term.
— Usually Disparaging and Offensive. n.
1. (a term used to refer to the offspring of parents of different races, esp. the offspring of an American Indian and a white person of European descent.)
adj.
2. of or pertaining to such offspring.

half-breed  [haf-breed, hahf-]  Often Disparaging and Offensive.
noun
1.
the offspring of parents of different racial origin, especially the offspring of an American Indian and a white person of European heritage.
adjective
2.
of or pertaining to such offspring.

1750–60,  Americanism

Dictionary.com Unabridged

World English Dictionary
half-breed

— n
1.   offensive  a person whose parents are of different races, esp the offspring of a White person and an American Indian

— adj
2.   of, relating to, or designating offspring of people or animals of different races or breeds

half-breed

It seems neither one of us is entirely correct/incorrect.
