His comments about the "Half breed" baby is a clear example of hate.  Breeds describe animals not humans.

I've referred to myself as a "half-breed" and often tell people that I was "born and bred" here in San Antonio; am I racist? (FYI, humans are animals.)

Racism isn't always about hate, as Mike Christ tried to intimate. My mother would never wish ill on anyone but she's a full blown racist, IMO. It sometimes seems like every conversation I have with her includes a comment that starts with, "Oh, you know how white/black/Mexican people are..." She's not white and doesn't consider other races inferior to hers, she will just instinctively put you in a preconceived box based solely on your skin color.

I've met Phinnaeus in person and worked with him on several projects. I believe he is understandably upset by the actions of his niece's boyfriend and wanted to convey the depth of his displeasure by using the most derogatory term he could find. He also tried to make it clear that he was only referring to this one individual, basing his scorn and derision on the personality, not the physical characteristics of the man.

Unfortunately for Phinnaeus, and the rest of us, a few loaded terms are still enough to draw attention away from the issue at hand and give fodder to those trying to convince us that some words and concepts are "bad" no matter how you use them.
Hi edd,
Because you are an Adult, you can label or call yourself anything you like and you have done no damage to anyone.
While Labeling the Black man as a N****R was wrong what he said about the baby was even more disturbing. Just shows that anyone any age is fair game in his book. The term didn't sit well with me labeling an innocent baby as a half breed.

PG is the type of person I would save if he were drowning  but i would NOT shake his hand Man to Man. Does that make any sense to you?
Thanks for the Viewpoint edd Appreciate it and keep up the good work in the 100 thread Smiley

I'm having some difficulty following your reasoning. You're admitting some words cause "damage" in certain contexts but not in others? You indicate that the term "half breed" disturbed you more than the word "nigger", a word you can't even allow yourself to type out in full. Have you ever heard or seen the term half-breed applied to anything other than a human? I don't think I have (unless you count aliens in science fiction movies).

I understand how some people still have a strong emotional response to the n word but I don't think anyone else would have mentioned "half breed". I could be wrong, maybe it's a localized thing and those of us born and bred in the South are the only ones who use the term without meaning to convey any negative connotations.

Unfortunately, yes, I understand. You're saying Phinnaeus hasn't fallen into the category of people whom you would allow to drown and you consider a handshake between two men to somehow be different than other types of handshakes.

Yes well this is a look into history Smiley

and indeed there wasn't final ann with a winner ... or I missed something while reading this thread Smiley)

Satoshi Superstar! Smiley where are you?

Many of the contestants are missing. Two of them are known scammers of those one is permanently banned, three are missing in action, one is a suicidal teenager, one is a chronic troll/spammer just coming back from a ban and one is a teenaged porn star.

proof or that's basically just fud.

Satoshi Superstars was a dud. It was my first attempt at an internet "game show" and there were several things I could have done better. Chalk it up to a learning experience.

In the first round, I divided the contestants into two teams...and they started dropping out like flies. Some announced their withdrawals here, some just disappeared and didn't respond to emails or messages. In the end, both teams just ran out of steam and the second round was never initiated.

I've kept the domain and website; maybe one day I'll resurrect it in a new format.

proof or that's basically just fud.

I know and corresponded with many of the contestants outside this project and I think most of them would agree with his characterizations (though even QA should admit there is a line between "swimsuit model" and "porn star" that I don't believe was crossed).

I came across this charity run by university students in NZ - 100Percent.org.nz

They provide a platform for students to sign up & offer tutoring services, with 100% of fees earned going out to the tutors' charity of choice.
The site retains none of the revenue, and hence is dependent on donations to fund their operations and ongoing developments.
Their Donations Page already has a Bitcoin address. Sounds like they are a good charity to support.

Seems legit to me. Added.

The Bitcoin100 website finally got a facelift!    http://bitcoin100.org/charities/

I still plan on listing all Bitcoin accepting charities and begin blogging more. Please let me know of any and every BTC accepting charity you're aware of, whether or not they're eligible for a Bitcoin100 endowment, and I'll mention them.

I'm also open to suggestions/comments for improving the site.
126  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: FreeBitcoins.com - Need Website Ideas on: April 18, 2014, 11:36:50 PM
any more ideas

Just throwing this out there:

You could use an alternate meaning of the word "free". For example, instead of "Free Beer", think "Free Charlie Shrem".

Now you can use the site to promote a mixing/anonymizing service, a method of conducting transactions off the blockchain, or even an anti-regulatory blog

Excellent I will add your site to the article.
 Smiley

There is a list a couple pages back and I also linked to a couple in my article.
They are both verified resellers.
I got mine from Agora.

How can I buy one of these?

They are also available now at the Bitcoin General Store: https://bitcoingeneralstore.com/precious-metals/

Wow, that was fast. By the time I checked your article, Bitcoin General Store was added. Thanks! (And very nice interview, too.)

The Daily Show
The Colbert Report
Parks and Recreation

I'm sure no one is surprised that Stewart and Colbert would mention Bitcoin but Parks and Recreation came out of nowhere.

Edd wins! Sending PM! Next auction in a while

Wow, I'm surprised I won. I was sure the final price would be much higher.

I'm sure this sort of stuff will eventually be commonplace but it'll be nice to say I was part of the first Bitcoin business to be advertised in space!

A kind of personal thing but I was checking the website and have not seen an update since 2012 since this is still ongoing it might be worth mentioning that stuff has been going on since 2012 XD
http://bitcoin100.org/

I guess by update, you mean blog post. You had me worried there for a minute.

Phinnaeus put together the site and is responsible for 99% of the content other than the Charities page. Since he's (sort of) stepped down, the site has kind of languished.

I fully intend to give it a facelift and implement some improvements once time permits. I've been wanting to post on the blog also but there just aren't enough hours in the day.

I really envy those of you who've quit your mundane jobs to work on bitcoin related ventures full time!
134  Other / Off-topic / Re: Looking for people with the same experience on: March 30, 2014, 02:54:18 PM
I've been scammed with conventional currencies more often than with BTC.

I'll probably get scammed again, not because I'm gullible, stupid or greedy but because I am usually willing to give the benefit of the doubt and I never invest/give more than I am willing to lose to someone I have no way of tracking down.

And before I get inundated with donation requests and investment schemes let me reiterate: I'm not stupid and I almost never give to charity organizations, preferring to help people I have actually met in person.

The general store is nice, it just needs international shipping

At the moment, shipping costs make this impractical. We're happy to discuss it with anyone who doesn't mind absorbing the cost.

Someone really needs to start a BTC based international shipping company!
136  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Bitcoin Specie Project sponsored by the makers of New Liberty Dollar on: March 29, 2014, 12:55:41 PM
FYI, Bitcoin Silver specie are available at the Bitcoin General Store and our prices include shipping within the US!

NICE!
If you would like some more pictures, there are a few others posted on my twitter that you can use as well.

Thanks! I hope to eventually set up a dedicated page for each product with more info, so those will come in handy.

I would really appreciate if someone helps/explains why I can't have the QR code working.. I bought one of those beautiful pieces (silver 999) at the Miami bitcoin conference, tried it at home with no success since then. I was really disappointed.

Is there a specific app to scan with? Does it not work with the air-tite? Thanks

I believe they are just too reflective for easy scanning. It took me almost a dozen tries to get it when I bought my first one from New Liberty in Las Vegas and it wasn't in an air title.
138  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitcoin General Store on: March 23, 2014, 05:34:59 PM
We also hope to allow anyone who just wants to focus on crafting their product to do so without having to worry about constantly marketing the fruits of their labor.

No website?
No problem.

Concerned about advertising, promoting, or pitching your goods?
We can do that.

Looking to sell to customers in the US but international shipping costs make it impractical for individual orders?
We buy in bulk, greatly reducing the shipping costs.

Are a newbie or habitual lurker hesitant to dive into a troll fest in order to earn some respectability/trust?
Turns out, we're pretty good at that.

Convince one customer (us), one time, and let us take care of the rest.
