The bible says pretty much the same.

Leviticus 11:7-8
And the pig, because it parts the hoof and is cloven-footed but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. You shall not eat any of their flesh, and you shall not touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you.

Guess the difference between christians and the Muslims when it comes to the pig is that Muslims takes their book serious
So many American Christians seem to be unaware of there own religious rules. Yes, it is a sin to eat pork, to eat non-fish seafood, for women to uncover their head...

These are Gods rules for ALL people of the book. I guess they are hoping that God was just clowning around when he made those up?

K, then let's have the Christians answer the question of the OP as well as Muslims.

Must be some insane "bones" to be supporting weight of creatures that large given structural rigidity needs goes up by cubing for ever size doubling.
An interesting question would be whether a mass of iron the size of a planet would naturally become a sphere.  Easy to prove that it would.  Then move to the most rigid material known of, and ask the same question.  I'm certain that it would.

Therefore, size constraints exist on non spherical structures.

And what we are talking about here is way, way beyond the size of a planet.

One might argue then, what of a solar sail, maintained against the light pressure from the star, exactly matching gravity?

This has been studied and is the subject of some patents.
10064  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Question about pigs and Islam on: October 21, 2015, 03:31:22 AM
Muslims do not like pigs basically for no reason. My own family member who was Muslim once said "they say pigs are dirty and eating poo, so what about chicken? They do same."
So it is just ironic.

lol Seriously? Its Hram, Because Of Few main and Big Reason
1. The meat and fat of a pig absorbs toxins like a sponge. Their meat can be 30 times more toxic than beef
2. When eating beef or venison, it takes 8 to 9 hours to digest the meat so what little toxins are in the meat are slowly put into our system and can be filtered by the liver. But when pork is eaten, it takes only 4 hours to digest the meat. We thus get a much higher level of toxins within a shorter time.
3. When a pig is butchered, worms and insects take to its flesh sooner and faster than to other animal's flesh. In a few days the swine flesh is full of worms.
4. Qur'an, Holy book of Muslims also prohibits consumption of pork.

and Many More reason
But THAT'S NOT the question.  Here is the question, again.

Is this a very bad thing according to Islam?

Just curious.

Editing Pig Genomes To Grow Transplant Organs For Humans

CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technology was used to disable 62 porcine endogenous retroviruses (PERVs), which it is feared could cause diseases in humans if pig organs were transplanted into humans.

Geneticist George Church has co-founded a company that is developing genetically modified pigs to grow organs for human transplant.

They did additional editing to reduce the threat of human immune response to pig antigens. Pretty cool stuff.

What ought to be done as well: additional editing to make the pig organs age more slowly. That way the transplanted organs will last longer. Domestic farm pigs only live 6 to 10 years. Those pigs grow to 500+ pounds. The miniature pigs live 15 to 20 years and grow to 32-75 lb. Still rather short-lived. Moderate sized pigs between those two sizes also have life expectancies between those two sizes.

How to make pigs live longer? We need to discover a large number of genetic variants that enable humans to live longer, find corresponding locations in pig genomes, and edit those locations.

We need to gradually reword the pig genome to be much more like the human genome: much longer lasting parts, no immune incompatibilities, no embedded virus dangers. Also, take a lesson from elephants and add more copies of the p53 gene to slash cancer risk.
10065  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What's your opinion of gun control? on: October 20, 2015, 04:47:37 PM
I strongly support private gun control. Police does nothing most of the time.
Guns can be used only to save yourself from danger. And I think it is fair use.

What seems to be the case in the USA is that when the bad guys think there are probably some guns in and around an area, they avoid it.  It doesn't matter if it's one gun or a hundred.

For example, they don't attack the local AR15 club meeting or the Glock two day training sessions.

They attack the defenseless old lady at the bus stop, or the school cafeteria (gun free zone).

Hence, instilling that fear into the bad guy is what is important, more so than having a weapon for your own protection or that of those you love.

What is sought is the creation of a cultural milieu in which the bad guy is scared to make bad acts.

They are basically cowards....
10066  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Water on Mars? Bleh. Astronomers may have found giant alien 'megastructures' on: October 20, 2015, 11:40:54 AM

.
We are like primitives compared to this advance aliens who may have evolve and build civilization million years ahead of us.

I doubt there are any civilizations that are millions of years ahead of us.

They would eventually destroy themselves.  How would they get past AI?
survival may be possible in a hivemind sort of civilization where free will doesnt exist, but rather the will of a central few. but i doubt it as well, if any civilization out there existed that were millions of years ahead of ours, they wouldve likely contacted us or tried (and succeeded) to exterminate us.

We would never know for sure. But what makes us so special out of 1 trillion planets in milky way galaxy alone. This is not include the other 100 billion galaxies.

Why they never contacted us?
1. The could be very far from us.
2. We don't know if they tried contacting us before. We just delevelop the capacity to read signals in just a century ago. This is like a pico second time lapse in the universe.
3. They  already controlling us without us knowing it.
4. They us like ants not worth of contacting.
for number 1, assuming the hypothetical civilization is indeed millions of years ahead of ours, i wouldnt expect distance to be an issue, assuming sci-fi style space travel was possible in this universe. as for number 1, if the civilization was indeed that advanced, contacting us shouldnt be a problem either with their vastly superior technology. nothing to say for statement 3, but for #4, its very possible they are merely observing us for now, judging weather we are worth contacting, or may be a future threat to their civilization.

If Einstein is right that are no faster than light. The distance of this civilization is 1500 light years away. If they point their instruments now to our Solar System what they see is what happen 1500 years ago. We are still not emiting radio signals yet. No rockets, spaceship or satelites floating in space. We are still fighting with swords.

If they are near level 2 civilization they are still begining exploring the other solar systems near them.

I assume life in the universe is common. Why they go to earth if there are other nearer million planets available.

If they visit us and they insist they don't wan't to be seen. I'm sure they would be invisible to us. Their spaceship would be superstealthy and has cloaking device.

The only purpose for capturing a significant part of the energy of a start would be some thing having to do with travel, or communication, across stellar sized distances.

There is nothing having to do with materials that can use such amounts of energy.  No industrial processes.
10067  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Astronomers may have found alien megastructures orbiting star near the Milky Way on: October 20, 2015, 11:32:15 AM
i agree, there are many things that can explain this,

it bothers me when I see legit science efforts junked up with stuff like this
True, but asserting that this is possibly artificial is not junk science.

A primary method of establishing that something is artificial is to look at it's level of intrinsic chaos, it's entropy.

Things in the universe tend toward low entropy.  Forces cause that - gravitational, chemical, etc.

From a long way away, looking at Earth, one can deduce that it likely contains life.  From the percentages of gases in the atmosphere.  Oxygen is reactive, so there is no natural way that an atmosphere would continue over long periods of time to contain oxygen - unless it was being renewed.  EG, plants.

Similarly, implausible blocking of 20% of a star's light periodically indicates something moving around that star, which has NOT moved to low entropy.  EG, Huh

as if teenage boys need 10 minutes

So there's money to be made here.  I'm thinking APPS.  The app would say "Oh yeah, baby" or "Fuck Yes" or "No way, not for you!" << add your choice comments>> every 9.5 minutes.   I realize this might disrupt a few high school classrooms, but what's a kid to do?

Of course this app would have to be turned on during the class in which the beady eyed Scroggins of a teacher was lecturing on about verbal approvals during sex.
10069  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Astronomers may have found alien megastructures orbiting star near the Milky Way on: October 20, 2015, 02:16:27 AM
From what I understood from the article and didn't really understand about it, was how where they able to locate this sphere that completely surrounds a whole star?  Wouldn't that sphere just be "hidden" by the darkness of space, since within the inside would be the star?

Only if it were a complete sphere.  Before you build the sphere, you would first build a ring around the planet star.

Maybe we just happened to catch them in the process of building it.
No.  Materials will not form a "ring around a star."

Materials are, at scales of millions of miles, fluids.  That is why all the planets are roundular.

In turn this means that compressive forces dominate.  A "ring" around a star collapses and becomes planets, or asteroids.

But that's not what was found.  What was found was high fluctuations in light output, with a periodicity.  From that you can figure the distance it is from the star.  And basically, it is HUGE.  Think in terms of half the size of the star.

Might be a black hole or such.

Dear let me explain you what Quran Said..... the point you rise is totally wrong the quotation you quoted is about killing the Fitnah not killing innocent people ...!!

Now you want to play with words? "Fitnah" has so many meanings in both translation and usage that, when you say "killing the Fitnah," you show the violence in the Quran, because you could have used many other words, or you could have used "Fitnah" in a non-violent way.

http://islamqa.info/en/22899

Smiley

Here is the meaning of Fitnah " unrest or rebellion, especially against a rightful ruler." If someone create Fitnah among Muslims then these instructions for Muslims what to do... Islam is against the killing of innocent people.

People here are not idiots.  We've already looked up the multiple definitions.

Hahahahaahahaha Your posts showing that you are an idiot because in every sentence you find something negative or something which is totally irrelevent... dear you are respected to me , Go and read about Islam and then come and debate Tongue
GOOD LUCk !!
And good luck to you too, my friend, with your multiple posting names in Bitcointalk.

Face it.

You argued wrong interpretation, based on Fitnah, you were rebutted, twice.

You lost that argument.  It's no big deal.

But responding with an argument of ridicule isn't a win, but a lose.

Most Muslims are not ignorant enough to think that the mass murder of innocent people are for the greater good.
It is only the extremists that are out of line with the true beliefs.
So is ISIS an Iranian stealth operation?

Encourage ISIS covertly, encourage their most barbaric practices.

Then at the right moment, turn on them, gallant Iran comes to the rescue, and saves the world from false Islam.

With it's "moderate Islam."

Iran, the biggest sponser of terrorism in the world.

Is that what's going on?
10072  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Islamic State urges jihad against Russians, Americans on: October 19, 2015, 04:03:23 PM
LOL. If they want jihad, why did they kill Muslims then?

They are mostly killing the Shiite Muslims, Christians, and Yazidis. Remember that the Caliphate terms Shiites as "heretics", who needs to be exterminated. They call their Jihad as one against "the enemies of Islam". The "enemy of Islam" can be anyone. It can be heretics, apostates, or devil-worshipers (that what they call the Yazidis).

They also killed a lot of Alevis and Kurds. In fact only Kurds try to protect their land and is fighting actively in the Middle East against ISIS. Funny fact is most Kurds are Muslims, too.

An equal opportunity destroyer?

i am muslim, I can tell you that the majority of Muslims are against all that ISIS DONE
that are not human, the group working for money (cia, service secret, gouverment USSA and more gov, LOBBY etccccc)
more war it is good for arment industry (since 11/09/2001)
we live in a false reality  Grin Grin

Maybe Iranian or Saudi money.  Not USA or USSR.

And if you and most Muslims are so much against these non humans, why don't you guys solve your problem yourself?  Then other nations like USA / USSR wouldn't have to come in and do it.

I don't think you'd hear any complaints if that was the case.

Quote
A large cluster of objects in space look like something you would "expect an alien civilization to build", astronomers have said.

Jason Wright, an astronomer from Penn State University, is set to publish a report on the “bizarre” star system suggesting the objects could be a “swarm of megastructures”, according to a new report.

I was fascinated by how crazy it looked,” Wright told The Atlantic. “Aliens should always be the very last hypothesis you consider, but this looked like something you would expect an alien civilization to build.”

 Shocked Shocked Shocked

In the near future, they also want to try and point a radio dish in the direction of the star and see if they can detect any radio frequencies that a typical advanced civilization might use.  This could be absolutely nuts if they can somehow confirm this.

This would be like a dream coming true. Imagine what this could mean if we would finally being able to prove not being the only planet with intelligent life in space.
This could be the beginning of a new era.
unfortunately, the uneducated and ignorant masses fear what they dont know, and would rather pour money into pointless wars and the pockets of lying politicians over the space program or beneficial government programs (social security).

given the backwards trend of society i dont expect much progress to be made on the space front until aliens contact us first.

We've made huge progress in space, every decade since the 1950s, or 1930s, or 1970s, where ever you wish to put the starting point.

I'm playing with lunar maps accurate down to about one pixel per half meter....for the entire moon.

Same thing is available for mars, but the sand moves around a bit.

however, something else that was quite interesting: it seems the 'lawyer' that the male student had for his defense performed so poorly that he later sued.
http://www.mindingthecampus.org/2015/06/amhersts-version-of-kafkas-the-trial/
the "lawyer" was more trained in social justice than civil jusice.

It is all inter-related. Professor C. Rhonda Cobham-Sander, an extreme-left wing black supremacist was appointed as the adviser for the accuser. The male student was given an incompetent adviser, who messed up his case. Since we don't know the real identities of the accuser and the accused, I can't be sure. But it seems to me that there is something fishy with this lawsuit.
true, the puzzle pieces do seem to be there to make out this case to be a bit sketchy, but i dont really believe it. what's the point in the university's administration colluding with a female student to get another student expelled? there's nothing in it, unless the female student had connections in the administration and pulled some strings. however, i really doubt that was the case here. more likely it was just a case of stupid people doing stupid things.

Any time a move is made in the direction of greater power over others by a segment of society, one must consider events in that context.  The events then may be considered either on their face value, or as power plays.

See writings by Michael Foucault, they apply exactly to this matter.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michel_Foucault

Michel Foucault ....was a French philosopher, historian of ideas, social theorist, philologist and literary critic.

....His theories addressed the relationship between power and knowledge, and how they are used as a form of social control through societal institutions.....

...He went on to publish The Archaeology of Knowledge, Discipline and Punish, and The History of Sexuality. In these books he developed archaeological and genealogical methods which emphasized the role which power plays in the evolution of discourse in society.....

Dyson Spere can be created by level 2 civilization and above. And that we see today happen 1500 years ago. Humans civilization is only level 0.1 - 0.2 .  We will be in trouble if they know we are here.

What do you mean "level 2" .. how would you go about grading the progress of a civilization, if we ourselves don't know how far we can come along as man?

Sorry for my mistake, humans currently at 0.74 level. It would takes 100 to 200 years to reach Level 1.

Type I

"Technological level close to the level presently attained on earth, with energy consumption at ≈4×1019 erg/sec (4 × 1012 watts)."[1] Guillermo A. Lemarchand stated this as "A level near contemporary terrestrial civilization with an energy capability equivalent to the solar insolation on Earth, between 1016 and 1017 watts."[3]

Type II

"A civilization capable of harnessing the energy radiated by its own star (for example, the stage of successful construction of a Dyson sphere), "with energy consumption at ≈4×1033 erg/sec."[1] Lemarchand stated this as "A civilization capable of utilizing and channeling the entire radiation output of its star. The energy utilization would then be comparable to the luminosity of our Sun, about 4×1033 erg/sec (4×1026 watts)."[3]

Type III

"A civilization in possession of energy on the scale of its own galaxy, with energy consumption at ≈4×1044 erg/sec."[1] Lemarchand stated this as "A civilization with access to the power comparable to the luminosity of the entire Milky Way galaxy, about 4×1044 erg/sec (4×1037 watts)."[3]

Type IV

Beings who can control or use the entire universe.

Type V

who control collections of universes. The power output of the visible universe is within a few orders of magnitude of 1045 W. Such a civilization approaches or surpasses the limits of speculation based on current scientific understanding, and may not be possible.

Zoltán Galántai has argued that such a civilization could not be detected, as its activities would be indistinguishable from the workings of nature (there being nothing to compare them to).[23]

I don't believe a Dyson sphere is capable of being built and maintained, physically.

Interesting concepts though.

Why not? The idea of a completely solid shell maybe not. It could have too many problems and maybe not worth doing compared to other structures. But other types of dyson spheres are probably possible and not hard to maintain. Like the one dyson was originally talking about. Many independent segments around a star instead of a rigid shell.
The one that dyson originally proposed is ridiculously unfeasible.  Large numbers of independent segments essentially work against each other's gravitational fields hence require energy inputs and propulsion to maintain their orbits.

Interestingly, the exact amount of energy for such offsets can be calculated at lest to a first approximation.  I doubt it would be a significant fraction of the solar output collected by the surfaces deployed in the orbits, but how would such thrust be done?

1.  Ion engines.  Really?  You are going to throw huge numbers of ions into the system, essentially gas it up?
2.  Chemical thrust.  Impossible, and worse than #1
3.  Some method we are currently not aware of.
4.  Solar sails?

10078  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What's your opinion of gun control? on: October 19, 2015, 12:51:00 AM
I said girls "need" and not "should" buy a gun and only those who can afford need to get a gun. Getting a license is so tough and you're talking about girls not being able to afford?  Roll Eyes

In that case I misunderstood you. My apologies.

Rather than recommending the women to buy guns, the government should try to bring down the crime rate. May be they should legalize prostitution and pornography. Most of the people who commit rape in India are frustrated single men, and the situation is exacerbated by the skewed gender ratio. Many of the men are unable to find wives, and prostitution is illegal.

Is that 1500 in US$?
If so it's time for 3d printed guns in India.

Yes. The cheapest (legal) gun costs more than $1,500 in India. Getting a gun license is extra. Taxes on fire-arms are like 2,000% or something. But the biggest issue is that it is extremely hard to get a gun license. It can take many years.

Interesting.  That means that women in India are effectively disarmed.  The rare bird may opt for martial arts training, but by and large the only effective deterrent to stronger, bigger adversaries (women against men) is firearms.
10079  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What's your opinion of gun control? on: October 18, 2015, 07:59:31 PM
In India, all girls need to get a license to own guns to protect themselves. Men here are getting cruel day by day.  Lips sealed

In a country where 50% of the people defecate in the open, just because they can't afford to build toilets, you are suggesting that 650 million people should purchase fire-arms? The total expenses for owning a cheap fire-arm in India can run in to more than $1,500, including the purchase price, license fee and taxes. I don't think that too many females will be able to afford them.
Is that 1500 in US$?

If so it's time for 3d printed guns in India.
