bad news: at least two more weeks(or one more diff adjustment if you prefer), you heard it here first. Sad

the noose is tightening as each day passes.I'm not all in per se. But was hoping things worked out fairly well.
1022  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [VIDEO] BFL Bitcoin ASIC Teardown on: April 29, 2013, 01:36:58 AM
I know people love to bitch and moan at BFL and rightfully so in some cases. But I have to say if BFL brought this chip from design to market in one year then that is outstanding. Regardless of what they promised, what they accomplished is no easy task. A lot of people aren't aware of the complications involved when attempting something like this. It can take a lot longer than a year to bring a new design to market. Avalon uses a 110nm process so it's no surprise they were able to deliver first. Technologically BFL's 65nm process is years ahead of Avalon. Remember I'm not speaking of what delivery time frame BFL originally promised, that has no relevance here. I'm speaking strictly of what they accomplished and to put it lightly it is amazing.

yeah, great when is my unit coming? Before the to end the year or after.. It may be great chip, but it will be worthless if they don't ship them out soon.
1023  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTS] AVALON batch 2 Order #1545 - With escrow! on: April 28, 2013, 06:13:19 PM
actually, that is cheap. Compared to some of the other auctions. Usually minimum is 25 K.

buy it! I'm not a miner, I'm a trader!

I have a couple already, FYI
1024  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BitSyncom. Can you provide an update on batch #2? on: April 28, 2013, 04:48:07 PM
I don't think Avalon getting us a general timeframe is too much to ask..
1025  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who all has received Jalapenos? on: April 28, 2013, 07:29:25 AM
So they exist after all

So the faggots who spend most of their days bashing BFL on this forum are suddenly quiet

I wouldn't know, I've had them on ignore for ages.
Oh, no, they're still talking.  Mostly going into tinfoil-hat areas of "well, the forum poster has a BFL sig, they must be working for them and making this up!"

I assume you are referring to me. It seemed awfully suspicious to me. A customer (supposedly) gets a unit and then does a YouTube video of it being unwrapped. Like it was for show and also had a BFL sig. Now most regular customers aren't going to upload a video to YouTube. From the start of opening the box and showing it for display. That along with having a BFL sig. So there is some reason for skepticism. But sure get on the BFL bandwagon..
You're right.  Most people won't do an unboxing vid.  So that's why most of the (40+) people who have undoubtedly received a BFL unit hasn't posted a video about it.  And you think it is odd that 2-3 geek types have posted unboxing videos?  Come on, tech types do that all the time when receiving the latest and greatest tech products.  Just type "unboxing" on youtube.

40+ undoubtedly? Citation please.
It would be good to see some actual evidence that BFL can produce and ship in double digits.
Sorry, I shouldn't have given a specific number.  Truthfully, I have no idea how many people have received them.  But I am sure that some of them are not reporting that they have received them.

My point still stands that geeks get overly excited about unboxing brand new tech toys, especially if they know they are one of the first to receive it.

I personally don't trust their figures. As they have had made a series of blunders. I don't have a hour to go through everything.

I find it suspicious, that every person (almost) who has received a unit then creates a YouTube video.. Nice signature as well: 60 GH/s BFL Single SC - Pre-Order Yours Today!

1029  Bitcoin / Hardware / BitSyncom. Can you provide an update on batch #2? on: April 25, 2013, 02:34:57 PM
Hello,
I along with many others placed an order for a batch #2 unit. Could you please give us an update with the latest on batch #2?
Thanks for your time
1030  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: April 25, 2013, 02:30:56 AM
April 15 update:
We are ramping up and the shipping of batch two has indeed begun, albeit not up to speed, we expect this situation to improve in a week or so once the equipment finish installing and the new, additional crew get use to the process. we are in also the process of merging many earlier problematic orders, if your order still does not show up in the store by Friday of the 19th please open another ticket.
Those who wish to trade in your FPGA generation Icarus or Lancelot: it is time to package and RMA those units back to us.. The bold text is probably when they will be starting.

On to batch three, we at Avalon did not even wish to sell another batch. If you recall, our original plan was to produce only one batch, sell chips to thwart the centralization of mining, but due to the lackluster performance of our competitors we are here today as the exact centralization we tried to decouple. In addition, this delay is eating into our timeline for this project's future goals and various other projects. To be frank: it was a simple decision of build a mining farm ourselves and mine for a month or so to get the funding for things like the SMT line and next generation development vs. raise the price and sell units trying to get the money earlier to counterbalance the delay we have had. So, we came up with some terms and left the choice to the community.munity.

my understanding is they raised prices for batch #3 instead of doing the mining for a month. The community decided their price wasn't too high and sold out within a day or so.

Brian

it appears you have 2 options. Reduce the price or make a bigger machine. I'd like you to crank up the specs and charge more per unit.

That was the April 15th newsletter. I haven't heard anything about May the 15th, is that something new?

1033  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB: Avalon Asic Batch #2 Pre Order on: April 23, 2013, 11:55:59 PM

I can see your point there but we have to remember, the people selling batch 1 already have them in hand. That is why they command such high prices. Batch #2 are mostly still pre orders in that they haven't shipped yet or are currently shipping but not in the owners hands. By the time their owners receive them, the price of btc may have drastically crashed for all we know (unlikely but anything is possible). These things aren't gold, although some people treat them as such. They're electronics and the value of electronics always depreciates with time.

Lol, the current difficulty is what, 8.9million? So at 91mill your 66GHs Avalon is going to do a coin every 3 days. So much for the ROI. At least they will be dirt cheap if they keep to their pricing formula. They will probably not get enough return on that formula to keep making them.

difficulty will go up about 10X by August... So if you have a second batch Avalon, there will have potentially a short time to make good money and then it may be a couple dollars a day. Depending on the BTC price.. So do you buy, sell or hold? Have an Avalon batch #2 and #3. Any feedback would be great (please don't pm me about selling them)!

So let's analyze your statement "difficulty will go up about 10X by August":

Let's make it by September because let's face it none of the players have met their self-made deadlines strictly so far.

Current Global Hashrate: 65 TH/s
Current Difficulty: 9.0 m

By August September:
Avalon batch 2 + 3: 1200 X 65 GH/s = 78 TH/s
Avalon raw chip increase: 500k X 282 MH/s = 141 TH/s
Big Time Coin hashrate increase: 500 X 96 GH/s = 48 TH/s
BFL hashrate increase (wild guess) = 50 - 100 TH/s
ASICMINER hashrate increase = 50 - 200 TH/s

Total hashrate increase: 367 - 567 TH/s

Difficulty after adjustment in September:

(9/65) X (367) = 50.8 m
to
(9/65) X (567) = 78.5 m

Or an increase of 5.6 X current to 8.7 X current difficulty.

Also, people will switch off their GPU miners and FPGA miners around this time or soon thereafter, mitigating the difficulty increase for September - December.  And there are no new technologies on the horizon that will exponentially increase difficulty thereafter, it will grow linearly. So while Avalon's difficulty calculation of doubling every month seems accurate for the next 3 months, it will not double any more after that and revert to more linear, less exponential growth.

So your Batch #3 avalon, assuming a cost of 100 Bitcoin and a hashrate of 96 GH/s, recieved in June or July, could potentially break even in 2 or 3 months.  Definitely buy and hold, you will find no better ROI anywhere.

thank you for taking the time to give your detailed analysis. Does everyone agree with these numbers? Are they too low or high..
Regards,
Brian
