Ok two things.

When I start.bat version 0.5.7 it auto-shuts down. Is this a common error?

And question from before - when will it be possible to send less than 1NXT?
1082  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum: 2nd gen cryptocurrency with contract programming, "dagger" hashing on: January 16, 2014, 01:28:13 PM
This turned to a debate of how to make a coin launch fair ? What is fairness is the first place ? Can money be fair at all ?

After some quick research, it appear that fairness is related to social justice.

Is it the role of cryptocurrency to solve inequity ? Can a cryptocurrency bring social justice ?

Aren't you guys trying to solve the impossible ?

As an investor, you're looking to gain something from your investment, not for it to depreciate.

As the things stand currently - looks like there's a lot of risk that you won't gain.
1083  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 16, 2014, 01:23:45 PM
My opinion on the NXT

NextCoin - should be only financial system without additional module - as a Swiss bank

I look forward to future implementation:
- Ability to pay 0,00000001 NXT (as buying 1 BTC, we buy is actually 100 million units 1 BTC = 100000000)
- Send money using the code, the code tells the client, the client confirms the transaction
- Ability to connect to the card (such as VisaCard)

?

This guy always shouts randomized sentences into this thread Wink

Actually i'm curious about something too. When will we be able to send less than 1NXT?

1.2 Trillion (doesn't matter if not from the get-go) for a higher price that NXT. You gotta be kidding us.
1085  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum: 2nd gen cryptocurrency with contract programming, "dagger" hashing on: January 15, 2014, 07:55:42 PM
1.2 Trillion units?

Why not 12 Trillion? It's not that much further.  Roll Eyes

I read this conversation under my video and then I lol'd:

Eh, I don't like the way it functions as much as I like BTC and LTC. Decent attempt at something unique, but I'm not sure I'd like this to survive.

What's 'cool' in the geek community doesn't translate to mainstream. The general doesn't plan on buying expensive ASICs or building 7950s in milk crates. Nxt is step forward.

but less profitable for miners, like myself. Wink

You'll find other ways to make moneys Wink

This is true, but I've dedicated my entire career focus to mining, which has been very profitable for me. I just don't like starting over. lol Wink

Well the current java client is not user-friendly, there has to be a one-click install windows client, then the sentiment might change.

we have discussed this issue on previous on occasions...and i'm sure it will be solved but it's the same problem the internet has....i'm not smart enough to suggest any solutions for this one.

It's a different problem. With the general Internet, when illegal content springs up it can generally be dealt with (speed & mechanisms dependent on the type of content), and the rest of the Internet chugs along just fine. Systems that try to combat that (tor etc) do so with sophisticated techniques, and it's a cat & mouse game against the authorities.

Fact is, we are hosting a blockchain that allows arbitrary data to be stored in it, with no mechanism to remove it, and hoping that people won't take advantage of that in a way that harms us. Is that wise?

+1 Don't overestimate the load our blockchain can take as we may end up with 10G data file pretty soon. One reason Bitcoin devs don't want to implement any other features     because Bitcoin already reaches the 10G blockchain and almost maximum bandwith by doing only transaction processing. So now they decided to be a payment specialist only.

When we have asset exchange, plus messenger, voting etc and pyamnet system. We may do 10X the load Bitcoin is taking right now. Need to think ahead.

Ok so we can't implement all these features because of blockchain bloat. But didn't we tout these as the advantages and the reason NXT is far ahead of Bitcoin and now the bloat is the reason it won't be implemented? Huh?

Just use common logic. Features are good. We love features but don't kid yourself that you can get a fee lunch.

Fee lunch? I don't care about fees. It was promised that these features would be implemented with no mention of the blockchain size being a big road block. It's news to me what you just said.

Free lunch. The more features, the bigger blockchain. There are tricks to reduce that but the common sense is that if you want to put in a lot of furnitures, your house will necessarily be bigger.
now you heard it, don't complain later that no one told you.

The fact that the blockchain grows with features is a given. But the fact that this is a such a big road block now is news at least to me. Nowhere before in hundreds of pages was it mentioned that all of a sudden we have a huge problem with the blockchain size. But we did have an emhasis on all of the "nice future features" that we will easily implement. Now I understand this is not feasible in practice. Is that what you're saying?

@ CfB

Can we reduce only 1 type of transaction fee (i.e Message Fee) or do we have to reduce all the transaction fee?

Interesting idea. We still would have a nice fee for transactions (so the forgers get something for forging). But what would be the consequences for the network, if we would overload it with thousands of messages per minute?

We don't need lower fee now. We need a stable network,  a full client and colored coin first.

Let's take one step at the time. We can't even transfer aliases yet for God's sake.

Exactly. When is the ETA for all of this? Or a particular block when some function will be implemented?

"Squared Virtuality based on #Nxt Arbitrary Messages is coming soon. Don't sell ur GPUs..."

Can you explain this a bit?

Excuse me but what did I miss here? I tried to mine with GPUMiner Scrypt with GPU on 2 pools, on both getting just stale/invalid shares.

Should I be doing something else?

When does this launch?
It's launched since yesterday.

Ok. Asked because i tried mining on crn.mineallcoins.com but it doesn't work.

Disable stratum, then it'll work

Yep, works.

There's a piece i'm missing in NXT. With many of the other coins, you see shops and services popping up that take some particular altcoin as a payment, but not with NXT - why not? Only one shop so far.
