10961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Synereo - Earn Money Using Social Media on: August 31, 2016, 02:50:02 AM
@DecentralizeEconomics. Good, I did not realize that it is already close. I am very excited and I hope it will live with all our expectations. Is this release complete with full nodes and all the client side stuff too?

It's an alpha release.  You will be able to start up your own full node to support the network.  They'll have a hangout session this Wednesday, the 31st, and next Wednesday, the 7th, where I assume they'll go over what will and won't be functional.  The AMP blockchain won't be functional during this release, but instead test AMPs will be utilized.  Users who own test AMPs will be able to convert them to real AMPs.

Ok. So when will the beta release be? Will it be out by year end?
10962  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Zcash? on: August 30, 2016, 11:17:14 AM
Can someone explain zcash's trusted set up in layman's terms and without going very technical? I would really like to understand it and be able to compare it to XMR and Dash for myself. It is sometimes very hard to know the truth without the knowledge needed to discern each cryptocoin. Sometimes I find myself listening to FUD without thinking and understanding.
10963  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ShadowCash (SDC): The Billion Dollar Baby! on: August 30, 2016, 10:59:22 AM
This is expected. Anonymous coins are making a comeback because of the latest development of XMR getting accepted at Alphabay. Expect Nav and Cloak threads to follow. The biggest loser here is Dash because some holders are dumping it to buy XMR so it now it is starting to go down.

10965  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is Dogecoin dying ? on: August 30, 2016, 07:42:26 AM
Is it not that Doge is merge mined with LTC? Maybe all that volume came from the Chinese LTC mining farms selling all their Doge. But agree with that chart. There is a pattern there and another pump is indeed coming if the pattern stays the same.
10966  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: August 30, 2016, 07:28:22 AM
NEM is stable.  If you recall from 2015 and other times, NEM was always very good at remaining stable.  I suspect this stability is the result of a lack of inflation, wide distribution and especially a large group of believers.

Market projection?  Steem has been dropping for awhile.  Monero pump, if the capitalization is sustained, will probably send Dash downwards.  I think we can reasonably expect NEM to move up to position #7, possibly #6, so long as NEM remains stable and historically it has done a good job at that.

Future market rallies?  I think future market rallies will come from more news and updates from Japan and, this may surprise people, especially Malaysia.  My critical opinion is the developments in Malaysia are very exciting and as important as NEM efforts in Japan.  I think with a couple of big updates, and community organization in Malaysia, NEM could achieve viral adoption in the country.   At the present time, the plurality of traffic to NEM IO seems to be from Malaysia. . .

Yes. I agree with your statement that Dash will go down if market cap of XMR is sustained. It will make some Dash holders switch to XMR because it would show that XMR has chosen the better option in being an anonymous coin. I did not realize the concept of ring signatures were created back in 2001. It was wise of the development team of Monero to utilize it in their cryptocoin.

I would also reasonably expect NEM to get to top 5 if it starts to go up again and also considering that Steem continues its fall.
10967  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 30, 2016, 05:58:55 AM
Is XMR's rise too much, too soon? It would have been better if the rise was slow and real where majority the people from the community could participated and gotten in to have their fill. This rise looks like the traders took advantage of the people's fear of being left behind by pumping it and then sell at high prices. Sooner or later some people will get burned playing in the current state of the XMR market.
10968  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Has NXTs price peaked? on: August 30, 2016, 05:50:39 AM
Nxt has one of the most reliable blockchain out there. I think Ardor will get his moment of fame when they launch. And the marketing team of Nxt is already working on the new childchain and the name. More info will follow.

"You think" it will get its moment in fame. Of course it will because it will be hyped by the marketing team and the NXT community. It will also be pumped at the same time of the hype and then the traders who know what is going on will also join in. When the ordinary people get in because they think this will be the next big thing, the dump will happen. This has happened before many times. Please tell me. What will make Ardor different?

Yes, that's what I think. I see all kind of coins and blockchain peak on random moments. Cryptocurrency prices are a lot about speculation, we even did see Fedoracoin peak...

Ardor has a more solid foundation, is tested well for many years, has good development and solves scalability problems. (Probably) 50% of the tokens of the first childchain on Ardor will go to development and marketing. That's good for promotion and to get things done. All these things combined make me think Ardor (or al least one of the childchains) will do well in the future.

The whole world of blockchains will only continue to grow. The chance your coins will be worth more is very likely. But it's crypto, so we will never know.  Wink

The problem is that formula has been used many times before and the success it mostly brought is only to enrich the developers and the insiders but not the supporters of the platform. Maybe the traders also have been enriched because of their exploitation of the price movements. It will be another hard lesson to the holders of Ardor and Nxt all over again because they will be given hope and then will get disappointed all over again after waiting for 1 or 2 years.
10969  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETC rising to 0.01btc ? on: August 30, 2016, 05:43:38 AM
@Divinespark. For now it does not look good. Look at the price now from a few weeks ago. It is a big difference. Common sense will tell you that it is not a good time to buy ETC because you risk losing part of your investment with the falling price. But if you are already in there is light at the end because the project is given confidence by Charles Hoskinson. So keep holding for more a year more because the fruits of their labor may be seen on 2017 or even 2018. So it would help to be really patient.
10970  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Lisk Price Discussion on: August 30, 2016, 05:39:23 AM
There will always be price attacks the problem is when will it stop? Everytime the price is showing that it will start to reach 50k satoshis the whale will set up a big sell wall at 45k satoshis. But maybe another whale is now ready to snap buy that wall when he sets it up again next time. We will see.

That's because the whales are playing with the price like a yoyo with surgical precision. If you like daytrading you can ride the waves and make some decent money but you can also lose a lot quite quickly so if you do start daytrading be careful and spend some time learning on a demo account first.

The side effect of a known whale playing with the price with surgical precision is that would make the majority of potential investors to stay away from LSK. Why would they risk their money in something that can be threatened to go down in price? It is better to avoid LSK now and invest elsewhere.
10971  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AEON 2nd gen cryptonote, anon, mobile-friendly, scalable, pruning on: August 30, 2016, 05:34:38 AM
When will AEON be added to polo?

Poloniex purging 24 shitcoins 5th Sept. It's a chance for AEON, CryptoNote is hot.

Can Aeon be considered as "silver" to Monero's "gold"? Seeing that they both are from Cryptnote can you please point out what the subtle differences are between XMR and Aeon? Also what was the purpose of smooth's creation of Aeon? Were there limitations in Monero that he wanted to fix by creating Aeon?
10972  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH + ETC price on: August 30, 2016, 05:23:27 AM
What likelihood do you folks assign to the sum of ETH and ETC touching $20 again in the near term? Will it be ETC that will primarily drive this?
Disclosure: long ETC

Not likely in the near term. ETH took a hit badly because of their development team and their leader doing stupid and not well thought out schemes. We do not even have any updates about the ETC they were going to dump at Poloniex and Kraken. Are they starting to return it now or are they still holding it ransom to gain leverage on the classic chain?

ETC's hype is gone. There was a proposed creation of a road map and other stuff from Charles Hoskinson but there is no word of it until now. So everything is just business as usual with nothing new. Both ETC and ETH look weak and ETH is just waiting to be dumped now while ETC is still busy looking and finding its bottom. Cheesy
10973  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: THE RISE AND RISE OF MONERO on: August 30, 2016, 02:16:08 AM
Ain't this just a pump still just like how any coins can do? The graph on bittrex seem to have come down now. I does seem like users are already dumping it. Dark market don't matter to you if you are not in the shady business so this coin must really be for them only.

bitcoin was around $100 when its primary use was in Silkroad

Bitcoin went from $1 to $31 in the first few months of Silkroad.
Feb2011.

Then it fell to $2 so...

Honestly at this point, it really kind of depends if you truly believe in Monero... because I mean as of right now, it's around the $8-9 range.  I wouldn't dare to play with putting a large portion of money in if you were planning on day trading, because whales are in abundance in this market now.  Price swings in either direction will make you emotional (either exuberant or pissed) and you will get out real quick if you are thinking in those terms.  It's either going to go one way or another, it will be platinum to Bitcoins Gold or it will be a bust. Just remember to invest with what you can afford to lose, and if it were me, I would just keep it in cold storage for 3-5 years and see what happens then.

Think about this fictional scenario. Someone bought with all his money at $10 because he really believes in a cryptocoin. Then the price goes down to $1 but still is holding because he is a true believer. It stays there for 5 years and there is no sign that it will go up and now he is in debt. Would you believe that he is still a true believer? I speculate that that person is now trolling bitcointalk for a living. Cheesy
10974  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will ETC pump hard? on: August 30, 2016, 02:11:56 AM
I feel like whales have been accumulating all the way down. We have big whales invested in ETC. The hacker will not dump since it would be too obvious and raise alarms to the feds if he moves big volumes, also he hates Vitalik and he wants to make money so it should be clear a pump should happen. Also a lot of people fear a dump, so doing the opposite could be a good strategy.

Yes. As ordinary people we do not know when this will happen. Maybe the people like Charles Hoskinson knows because they are the ones who have all the information before it is released in the news. They are also the reason why it is in the news. For us it is more advisable to be updated with the information available to us.
10975  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When Bitcoin will become fungible like Monero? on: August 30, 2016, 02:08:31 AM
What if bitcoin users use Monero as a layer to make their BTC fungible. Or maybe develop a sidechain that uses ring signatures. Would that be a good idea? The development team of bitcoin should surely be taking Monero seriously now that there is a real and big market that is already to accept it.

Sidechains are not trustworthy today - they require you to trust the federated peg keyholders. There isn't even a pull request with code in the works to make fullly pegged sidechains work today and therefore it's my opinion that we're looking at 2 years out, minimum.

Ok. So maybe the better way is to use decentralized exchanges with bitcoin as the base currency and treat the decentralized exchange as the "layer" for transfer from bitcoin to XMR. The problem is nobody is interested in using them. It shows because the Bitsquare orderbook is very thin.
10976  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Could Monero replace Bitcoin soon? on: August 30, 2016, 02:04:24 AM
Monero is clearly being pumped right now by folks who intend to switch to Z-Cash when it launches. Not saying Monero lacks merit, just that it's more fun and games than anything else at the moment. The vol is attractive as well.

If I cared about privacy I would not use cryptographic software implemented by former IDF, paid by the Israeli government.  The likelihood that these people are SIGINT operatives is overwhelming.  It's like accepting NSA-coin as your privacy cover.

Is it even remotely reasonable to trust the supply of ZCash?  The incentives to subvert this are potentially astronomical, and the act itself will be undetectable,  until the hyperinflation sets in.

Indeed, the "trusted setup" is a funny concept in a trustless, distributed environment.  This could be rendered trustworthy if each potential participant in ZCASH were be a member of the trusted setup.  As such, you know of yourself that you are "fair", and if ALL users collude, that's their affair, isn't it !

So ZCASH's system seems to be a perfect way of having an anonymous trusted PRIVATE block chain between a finite, and a priori known number of participants that don't need to know eachother.  But it cannot be trusted by newcomers afterwards (the old boys can collude against you).  In fact, ZCASH's system is a kind of Proof of initial stake to the extreme.

Quote
The last time I reviewed their proposal and code, the sheer size of the proofs rendered the system incapable of scaling to any significant usage traffic.  Has that been fixed?

This is my main problem with it.  The trusted setup is a problem of principle, but I could eventually live with it.  But you can only use "anonymity" with such a chain bloat that you can do it for only a few transactions if I understand well.  If ZCASH were to use anonymity systematically, it would be like monero using ring signatures with a few million of signatures or so.

I think the main selling point of ZCASH is that it can sell fake anonymity to believers.  And as most people are not sufficiently technically aware of all these aspects, there might be many many believers.   As such, a believers' trusted setup is not a problem.  Many people don't REALLY need anonymity, they only need to believe it.  Those that really need it might be in trouble of course.

I have a question. If zcash will continue to release using the "trusted set up" then there is a high chance that it will be bashed by the known people of crypto. So I ask, what do you think is the better option for the zcash development team? How can they eliminate the trusted set up? Do they have to start from scratch?
10977  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Synereo - Earn Money Using Social Media on: August 30, 2016, 01:53:35 AM
When will Synereo have an official release? They must hurry up before the market for decentralized social media becomes saturated. Sometimes it would be better to launch early than waiting for a stable version and for the right time. There is a saying in the start up world that says if you released a perfect version of your software, it means you have released it too late.
10978  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is the XMR pump all due some darkmarkets announcing they will add it? on: August 30, 2016, 01:48:31 AM
This coin has been forgotten for 1+ year since the first ATH happened, it never close to the last peak. Now, in a matter of days, we have seen the ATH getting destroyed and we are at a price higher than ever before.

Why is this happening? Is there any solid reasons, or is just a "buy rumor sell news" scenario?

Do people in dark markets are willing to use XMR when they need to buy BTC to begin with? whats the point?

Any technological advancements in XMR that I have missed?

Why this pump? I may get in but man this has to correct with a dip. Also im scared this can start crashing and become stagnant again. At the end of the day BTC will keep getting more anonymous with further updates.

Part of it is due to the news that darknet markets are accepting XMR. Do not deny it, it is big news. Also most of the rise is due to the traders pumping the price then selling them to the speculators, then pumping it again then selling again higher. Well you know the drill. It will go as high as it can until there are no buyers because the rise will surely end. We have seen this everywhere even in the real markets around the world. In the cryptosphere it happens much faster.
10979  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can coins like Monero challenge Bitcoin? on: August 30, 2016, 01:43:40 AM
I can see something happening where XMR will be in the running to replace bitcoin. The people in the cryptosphere have always been looking for a new coin they can support. Why? Because for some people bitcoin is trying to be what it should not be. It is trying to be in the mainstream and in the process it has been corrupted by the people who want to take it there. Do you think those people really care about bitcoin? Do you think the Winklevoss twins are in it because they want to change the world and disrupt banks? No they are there for the money.

Maybe so with the Winklevoss twins, but there are some people who are kind of in it for both of those reasons... think about it, they wouldn't have been one of the first adopters of Bitcoin if they didn't have some fundamental belief in what Bitcoin can do.

Example A) Look at someone like Roger Ver, he is a rich guy, yeah I get that; but he is going around to all sorts of places spreading the word of crypto currencies and, to me atleast, seems to be genuinely in it for the currency itself and thinks that it will change the world.

The first people to have found out about Bitcoin and invested in it all had the same sort of ideological beliefs... now those beliefs are starting to get a little hazy and less defined.

Yes. There are some believers who want to take cryptocoins to another level and take it to the mainstream. But as I said some of those believers are willing to take too much risk just to see BTC get there quick. One example is the support of some of the believers for Gavin's XT. This is a major step with risks. The Ethereum fork is a good example of how a hard fork can go wrong.

I have lost faith and confidence with Roger Ver as a believer because it was looking like he sacrificed his idealism by supporting a version that he thinks would take it mainstream even though there repercussions. Now he is joining the bandwagon with XMR. Why? Because there is a good possibility he bought XMR at low prices. He is in it to make money and it is showing now.

Actually that is NOT a surprise move by Roger Ver.  Ever been to Roger Ver's website?  Long ago he used to list everything he supported and he included a bunch of alternates, including Ripple and others (I think he also endorsed AppleBytes at one time?), but when they did not rise then he quietly dissociated himself.

Roger Ver has a very evangelical / populist personality but he doesn't seem to be loyal to anything other than "blockchain" in general, and his prior support of Ripple (which is hardly blockchain) puts that into doubt.

Yes. He is not loyal to anything other than the things that will make him money. He does not care about the "blockchain" or any form of disruption or maybe even changing the world for the better. But he likes to make it look like that he is. If you say the it is not a surprise move from Roger Ver then I would assume that the inner circles of the bitcoin elite and the who's who of crypto know what his real agenda is.
10980  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] Monero - Marketing Team & Tactics on: August 30, 2016, 01:36:52 AM
Monero is badly written...JC ONLY founded 12 exploits and believe me, there are more Smiley you think your viewkey is save now? That you are the one who has access to it?

NSA loves the story that XMR will be the darknet money hahaha....enjoy your drug buys boys

What you are trying to say is mere speculation and borderline FUD. Why would you say this now that XMR is gaining traction? From that question alone makes your intention questionable. XMR is now accepted by Alphabay and Oasis. Check out their sites on Tor. Also there will be more darknet markets that will follow this trend. It is already out there and there is nothing we can do. If what you are trying to imply is true then it is true but it will not change that XMR is now accepted in some darknet markets.
