gonna name this day BLOCKFRIDAY! Grin Grin Grin

keep em coming!  $$$$$$$$$$

Funny how we lost almost 2PH in a day and 3 blocks today. Good, teaches these people to leave, they look back and say oh shit, why did I leave

In any event...  I welcome them back.  I'm fine with seeing this pool get to 82,000 TH/s (82 PH/s).

you are probably talking about S7 hypothetically, but I don't see it being a good large scale investment by summer, although with low electricity cost, who knows. I am pretty sure we will have at least 0.1-0.15J/Gh machines by then (S9?)
One thing is clear: unless speed of diff rises significantly decreases, buying btc directly would be more productive with zero overhang and maintenance cost.

Also, must consider a mass sell off of S7 come block halving.  Who knows how cheap they will be.  Those in low power cost areas may find the price attractive [Depending on what the price is].  Yes, we may very well see new gear at 0.1 to 0.15 J/GH by then.  Yet, we may not.  May not see new gear available to home miners until 4th quarter 2016.  No one knows the price of bitcoin by then nor the difficulty.  I have my thoughts of what they will be.  I'm simply seeing how it plays out and make decisions as they arise while the block halving gets closer.  I'm going to have at least 90 to 100 x S7's before block halving for sure.  Then, based on difficulty, price of bitcoin, price of S7's and price of possible new gear; I will make my decision on what to do with present gear I have; the move; etc...

EDIT:  Bottom line... It's all speculation...
1107  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: January 07, 2016, 03:48:28 AM
is https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator a good place to calculate ROI? i keep messing with this thing and still cant find ROI.....everytime i do it im in the hole $700+ after 200+ days. these things need to be cheaper. and with the reliability issues of late, i think im better off just buying a bunch of btc and seeing if it increases in value over those 200 days...when stuff lasts 2 weeks and burns up or fails..... that means it is total crap!

I'm curious...  Does your electricity rate per kWh need to be cheaper?

5.9 cents a KW. which is low for most of the USA....

And you can't see ROI?

Can you not see future price of bitcoin going up considerably just before the block halving?

Of course, I have plans on moving soon to an area with $0.0285 to $0.0325 per kWh.  That's the main reason I'm loading up on rigs.  However, I'm not moving until I have 200+ S7's.  It could be end of July [After block halving] or it could be the last quarter of 2016.  It depends on how certain things play out as to the timing of my move.

Here is a previous shipment of 9 x S7's with the Duty Class Code Number: 8523.51.00 Semiconductor media: Solid-state non-volatile storage devices....................... No............. Free  Which see:

Here is a copy of the bill from UPS on that shipment of 9 x S7's with the classification of 8523.51.00.  Notice there was no "Duty Amount" because it was FREE on this shipment.

The whole damn thing just pisses me off.  I think someone in customs that day saw "BITCOIN MINER" and was like, "What the hell is that?"  I'll just label it under "Other" and charge 2.6%.

You can bet your ass I'm disputing this with customs.

I just got a bill from UPS for the first time also. Mine was classified as 8487.90.0080. Do you have a link to the Duty Class manual? Have you contacted UPS yet? It appears that UPS reps are randomly classifying the miners and imposing a duty.

now "other" seems to be 3.9%. Why is this not a computer or computer part? Not sure about silicon storage device-even that is better.

I quick call to UPS solved the issue, they just wanted to make sure what type of device it is. I told them that it is a data processing machine which does nothing but data processing. I received an email that the fee will be credited to my account in 6-8 weeks.

Hell, they are making me go through a lot of red tape.  I had to send them a lot of information with photos and specifications of the rigs.  You must not have owed much at all.  Mine bill was almost $900 total for 23 rigs.  They have it on hold as far as me owing anything but it's possible I may get a bill 6 to 8 months from now with the same bill.  So, I have to sweat it for a while.

That code they gave for yours was just made up out of thin air.  BITMAIN, should be providing a proper code for us but they are not.  I have asked UPS to give me a phone call from this day forward anytime I have a shipment arriving into the US for me from another country.  If I miss the call and they have to call me again they will charge me $10.00.  I'm fine with that.  I prefer to have hold my package(s) until they get in touch with me and ask me for an HST code than having to go through this mess of wondering if I will have to pay $800 or more to the government.

The code they gave for yours has nothing to do with bitcoin miners.

please be warned this is a psu with big ass 450 volt caps you can die if you do this wrong

Hence, the yellow tag caution of high voltage and caution of opening and poking around with a screwdriver.

Thanks for doing this, Phillip.  Much appreciated!!!

I gambled on Preludes previous assessment and tried to purchase the last 8 units that person on eBay had remaining.  There were 3 other offers ahead of mine.  I don't know what they offered but I offered $75 each for the remaining 8 units.  He got back to me about 10 minutes later and told me he sold 2 of them but I could have the remaining 6 units for $75 with free shipping.  So, I jumped on it.  I've received 2 x 2980's from the other seller at $150 each with free shipping.  With this present seller, I was able to get 10 x 2980's in total at $75 each [1 shipment of 4 units and 1 shipment of 6 units].  I plan on buying the 2980 from here on out and using the breakout board originally made for the 2880.  The only thing [And it's no big deal] is the white plastic screws from the breakout board do not go in the holes on the back of the unit to connect the breakout board to the unit.  The holes are twice the size of the holes on the rear of the 2880's.

It's tempting to do what kilo has done with the one large fan for 3 units.  I think I will wait for further results from kilo and phillip [under at least 80% load] before I begin buying the 180mm fans and taking apart the 2880's and 2980's.

I will be so glad when my power gets upgraded.  I have an electrical contractor coming tomorrow for another quote.  I have one coming Monday to give a quote and I have one who came by last week and is supposed to email a quote to me Friday or Monday.  Wish me luck... It's important to me to get this done as cheaply as possible.  I had one quote me $18,750 for upgrading from 200A to 800A service.  I more or less told them they can take a hike.  I had another one tell me to tell him what I paid for the disconnect switch and panels and he would simply subtract it from his quote that included the price he would charge me for materials.  I told him what I pay for materials is none of his concern and that he needs to give me only a quote for the labor.  He told me the same thing again.  Which I told him AGAIN, "What I pay for materials is non of your concern."  He said, Just call me when you have your prices. Then I literally told him, "You can take a hike too."  Then hung up.  LOL

along these lines  100% fan speed  goes to about 4400rpm  don't use 100% ever.  Three reasons are:

1) power sucker uses the most power.
2) cooling improvements level off above 4200 rpm
3) much more likely to burn the controller out due to higher power use at 100%.

Also  The manual setting of 50% or greater will keep the miner safe from internet drop outs in most cases.

I just adjusted all of my S7's to 50% manual fan per your recommendation.  Two of my batch 8's also had to have their frequency reduced to get their temperature to 65 C or lower.  One of them I had to reduce the frequency to 650 MHz.  The other to 687 MHz.  I'm all about taking care of these rigs to hopefully increase longevity of the blades and the controller.

EDIT:  The odd thing is the ambient is approximately 11 C.  Yet, two of them had to have their frequency lowered to reduce temperature.

I personally believe batch 7 was the best Batch of all the S7's.  At least from the one's I have.  I have Batch 1, Batch 5, Batch 7 and Batch 8.  My Batch 7 at factory 625 MHz is hashing at 5,055.92 GH/s with 0.0025% HWE's and fan at manual 50% with 3,600/3,350 RPM's on the fans with 54, 49, 48 temps on the blades.

For sure scam, look at his feedback history, all BS little amounts to get feedback, all he is selling now are miners, with LONG lead times, delivery times etc. Gets him the longest possible time to get the money out of paypal, and prob linked bank account. Then just walk away, close bank accounts etc. Since his account is older and I bet has had paypal for a while, then they will not hold the funds and he can spend on Paypal card or xfer to bank. Buyers will not start filing claims till mid to late Feb and by then he is long gone.

Agreed, but even better for him if someone pays him with BTC.  He's really got you then.

BY THE WAY, his item has been taken down by eBay.

I just went to an S7 and had a look at the Control board [Which consists of the BB board and IO (daughter) board].  I see this now.  I prefer to be able to purchase both and not just one.  I want extras for the future in case of failure.

Worth remembering that you can plug and run 2 x S7 (6 Hash Boards) off a single controller, so worth owning a set of longer cables to enable an easy plug up in the event of a failure.

Rich

Agreed...  But with batch 7 and earlier only.

My fastest miner S7 is doing a SHARE RATE of 3.93THs and a HASH RATE of 4.90THs , why does that differ ?

What is what and is that normal ? my slower miners does not have that big difference.

This copy of S7 is overclocked to 750 Mhz, it have no X-ed CPUs in the status box.

Has that rig been on the pool more than an hour?

Yes it have been running for a week, and no connection on the backup pool today.

Edit : Now i check again and the SHARE RATE is 4.72THs now. So i´m not sure... have the pool done a restart last hour ?

Is it a problem with pingtime between sweden and the pool ?

But anyway, what is the difference between hash rate and share rate ?

THANKS for providing the link, PPOC.

"Share Rate" and "ĢElapsed" are initialised when the miner first connects.
"Share Rate" and "ĢElapsed" reset every network block.

Their aim is to inform you: if you are connecting properly and sending shares properly.

"Share Rate" is the number of shares you have submitted in "ĢElapsed" then converted to a hash rate.
The very first second that you connect to the pool, they will report the shares you have submitted since "ĢElapsed"
Thus it has high variance, but has the specific use of being able to see the shares you are submitting, immediately.
They are not trying to tell you your accurate hash rate.
They are telling you that you are connected to the pool properly and sending shares properly.

I've been including a sheet with Kano.is as the recommend pool on all the miners I sell. No way of knowing if they pointed to Kano, but I hope so.

Much appreciated.  Thank you!!!
