Basically, the point about civil law is that a government set up that way is virtually a dictator over the people of the nation. There isn't really any democracy. Government rules by giving itself best benefit by allowing the people democratic-like freedom.
Legal systems have almost nothing to do whatsoever with whether any given country is a democracy or not.
It is definitely true that without rule of law, democracy is impossible, but that's an underlying legal principle, not a legal system.
Civil law as a legal system has nothing to do whatsoever with whether or not a government "sets up" a civil code which will define whether or not the jurisdiction, executive and legislative can be considered compatible with a democracy.

Please, before stating such nonsense as you did, rtfm, i.e. go to a library, get the books in the "law 101" section and read!

1126  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2 Years After Boko Haram Kidnapping, the Search Goes On for Nigerian Girls on: April 19, 2016, 11:22:41 PM
The last time Manasseh Allen saw his teenage cousin was at a family wedding two years ago. She was a shy girl focused on her studies, Mr. Allen recalled, and the moment the wedding was over, she rushed back to her school to study for exams.

Only days later, Boko Haram fighters stormed her school in the Nigerian town of Chibok, torching the buildings and kidnapping Mr. Allen’s cousin, Maryamu Wavi, along with nearly 300 other girls, most of whom have not been heard from since.

The mass abduction, on April 14, 2014, was just one of hundreds of acts of brutality that Boko Haram has rained down on West Africa in recent years. But it captured the world’s attention and horror like no other, spurring an international campaign with the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls and even drawing Michelle Obama to the cause.

Ever since, protesters have regularly marched outside government buildings and along grassy medians in Nigeria’s capital. Other nations, including the United States, have joined Nigeria’s battle against Boko Haram. Drones fly over Sambisa Forest, where intelligence officials believe fighters are hiding the girls, and soldiers are freeing villages from Boko Haram control.

Yet two years later, nearly all of the Chibok schoolgirls are still missing.

“Nobody knows where they are,” said Garba Shehu, a spokesman for President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria. “I don’t know where they are. I don’t know. But we are hoping if they are found in one location, they should be rescued.”

The government says it has been scrutinizing a video that was apparently made in late December in which schoolgirls recite their names and say whether they have converted to Islam.

Isn't refreshing to share what one feels about the climate on a forum, without the fear of being targeted by the Global Warming Stasi?

The answer is very simple. Germany has become the vassal state of Turkey
A million Turkish live in Germany, and the Turkish dictator keeps a large part of them under his control. They have to serve the Turkish army for example.

A Turkish army has been infiltrated in Germany? Ready for their marching order?

Yeah... The comedian has to go to jail then.

Thank you Merkel. German humor for the win!

Böhmermann works for the zdf ( lying .gov press) so this might just be some type of conspiracy or hoax!

On a serious node qwk explained it already that the comedian knew the consequences of his poem ( they explained it beforehand) and in the worst case it will end in a fine.

There are laws for insulting/defamation/libel and additional laws for special cases of the same against presidents of other nations.

Everything what is happening right now is exactly the way it should happen in a state under the rule of law.
You feel insulted you take the person to court and the courts decide.

Btw. Germany will remove the special laws regarding "Beleidigung von Staatsoberhäuptern" because it is just a relict of past times ( deutsches Kaiserreich or weimarer republik?) and not needed anymore.

OK. This is normal in Germany to be fired for your job because you are a comedian. Good to know.

Nobody is fired. He is making a vacation and still works for the zdf.
The zdf also announced it is supporting him with all means nessecary.

It is quite funny if there was no special law for libel against a head of state erdogan would have just used a normal court process which would have went straight to court - 100%.

Because of the special law the german gov has to approve it which is the correct decision.

Do you know if that same law targeting the German comedian was already in place when Bokassa or Pinochet was in power?

1134  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why some countries are lucky and some appears to be less so on: April 17, 2016, 02:24:39 PM
What is your definition of luck and happiness?
If you like nature and life without stress and pressure, you will probably like life in Africa much more than in America or Europe.
If you prefer security, you will rather live in Scandinavia or Switzerland than America or France, uK etc.
If you wants to start some business than America is your choice Smiley
I guess each of us have own definition of happiness and luck.
Of course, I'm talking about politically stable countries, without wars, corruptions, with good educational and social system.
Why some countries can't provide such basic foundations for their citizens?
It's not easy to answer, because each country is unique.
Usually, political corruptions and civil wars are the main reasons why some countries don't provide to their people security and stability needed for good life.

Where in Africa?

Anywhere that was colonized has history of neglecting the indigenous people,so its no shocker we have a bad history with the natives.
You can point to how we dealt with the Chinese and East Indians as well but we have moved forward and are working towards bringing everyone to their potential.

Trudeau also is getting a lot of love but he has surrounded himself with some pretty smart people and he has been groomed for this position for quite a long time.
He grew up with a father that held the same position and was able to see how to act in public for full effect. He also has quite the tech geek knowledge because one of his close friends is really involved in the tech scene,so its sure to rub off. Its still the honeymoon stage with him and he is bleeding money left and right but has not really come through much so far with his promises. So jury is still out and oil is killing us right now.

Their potential or yours? Who has moved forward again? I thought the whole concept of forced re education through the Canadian school program was about just that: bringing everyone to their potential. Anyway, it does not matter anymore, they lost you won. They're all gonna be gone in a few generations, as programmed, before they ask for any form of reparation, or payment from all the natural resources mined on their ancestral lands...

Did Trudeau said he would keep oil tankers from coming or thinking out loud about imposing a new tax on them? I have to look into this. If he did then he wasn't groomed enough.

Anyway, good luck to you Canuck.

America is a complex and sick society and always will be. Canada is the nice dull guy who lucks out for no particular reason. If that's your thing then you know where to be an illegal immigrant.

A nice dull way to rewrite Canada's past crime against the no particular natives...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Canada is guilty of committing cultural genocide against Indigenous people, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission said in a summary of its final report released Tuesday.

The TRC builds a case that leads it to conclude Canada committed cultural genocide against Indigenous peoples and used Indian residential schools used as its main weapon.

“These measures were part of a coherent policy to eliminate Aboriginal people as a distinct peoples and to assimilate them into the Canadian mainstream against their will,” said the TRC report. “Residential schooling quickly become a central element in the federal government’s Aboriginal policy.”

The TRC unveiled two volumes and a summary of its final report which is expected to be released later this year. One volume was titled, What We Have Learned, and the other was titled, The Survivors Speak.

The TRC was created as part of the multi-billion dollar settlement agreement between Ottawa, the churches and survivors. About 150,000 Indigenous children went through Indian residential schools throughout the systems over century-long existence.

The TRC’s report said cultural genocide is defined as the “destruction of those structures and practices that allow the group to continue as a group.”

States that engage in cultural genocide aim to destroy political and social institutions by seizing land, persecuting spiritual leaders, banning languages, outlawing cultural practices, restricting movement and disrupting families so cultural values can’t be passed on to successive generations, said the report.

“In its dealing with Aboriginal people, Canada did all these things,” said the report.

The TRC report said Canada’s negotiation of treaties with First Nations were “marked by fraud and coercion.” The report said the federal government continues to stall on the implementation of treaties to this day.

"A Totally Corrupt, Rigged System":
GOP Plans to Strip Trump of Delegates in Indiana & Wyoming

The Colorado GOP even Tweeted this before deleting it and blaming hackers.

Now the GOP in Indiana and Wyoming are plotting similar ways to ensure Trump doesn't get any of their delegates.

Via Biz Pac Review:

In a meeting behind closed doors yesterday, GOP party leaders met in Indiana to select 21 delegates that are expected to be anti-Trump, even though voters don't get to vote for another three weeks in the state, according to Bloomberg News.

Cool

Clock Winds Down on Cruz Campaign: 10 Days Until Elimination

On April 2nd we predicted that even with a Wisconsin win, Cruz would be mathematically unable to reach the delegate count required for him to win the Republican Presidential nomination by the end of April. “Actually” we noted, “in only 3 weeks, on April 26th, Cruz will be no longer able to win enough delegates to win the Republican nomination.”

The delegate count now looks much worse for Senator Cruz.

Shortly before Wisconsin Cruz had 463 delegates and Trump 736, now two weeks later Cruz has 545 and Trump 755. Cruz picked up less delegates than we predicted in Wisconsin (36 to 40) but he did manage to ‘gain’ delegates in Colorado in the shady ‘voter-less’contest Real Clear Politics calls a caucus.

[...]
It seems that the Colorado debacle may have hurt Cruz more than it helped him. Trump is leading in all of the East Coast states coming up for election – New York 53% (+32), Pennsylvania 43% (+16), Maryland 40% (+14), Connecticut 50% (+24) with no recent data from Rhode Island and Delaware. Based on the current poll data and assuming Rhode Island and Delaware are consistent with their sister states, it looks like Trump could win all the delegates in New York, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland based on the primary rules in these states while cleaning up in the other two.

Ted Cruz is currently polling in third place in all these states except Pennsylvania.

As we noted on the 2nd, “Even if Cruz wins a third of the delegates in Rhode Island or Connecticut or any of these states, it will not be enough to keep him mathematically in the race.”

Now it looks like Cruz will not only be mathematically eliminated from obtaining enough delegates to win the election outright by April 26th, he may also have fallen to third place in the polls by the end of April, too.
