I mean, its an interesting idea, and I would like to belive that this coin has potential, but there was clearly some manipulation going on yesterday. Its just kind of scary to buy into a coin at the end of a dump since you don't really know where the true bottom is.

Saw this coin trending a bit on Poloniex in the last 24 hours. I didn't realize this coin has been around for two years already. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=426324.0Given the fact that some seed banks/ online head shops actually accept this coin as payment, is it possible that it might actually become a decent long term investment? Maybe we could see a new ALL TIME HIGH (See what I did there?)

Coin is trending a bit in the last 24 hours on Poloniex. I didn't realize this coin has been around for two years already. Very interesting and a good sign that some of these seed stores/ head shops accept it as a payment so there is actually something to do with it besides trading. I'm going to buy a couple coins and hope for the best!

Wow this is actually quite impressive. A website and a photoshopped picture earned 300 Bitcoins? No wonder people are pulling these type of cons.

I recommend to listen to any advice from philipma1957, he knows a lot about mining.
As mentioned, your key factor is going to be electricity cost. Mining is not like it was even three or five years ago. It's not free money. You aren't going to instantly get rich. You will invest thousands of dollars and hope to possibly get it back and make some profit in a year or two from now.
You can make just as much, if not more, off other investments. You might be better off doing some research and trading some coins, although that obviously can be risky, too. It mostly depends on how much you are paying per killowathour for electricity.

Also keep in mind that you have maintenance costs if you own a property. There may be yearly taxes, costs to maintain the house if you have any issues like a leak in the roof or a broken pipe. Factor this into the cost when you are deciding how much you can afford to spend on a property. I saw a report on a very expensive house that has been sitting empty for years because the upkeep is around $1 million a year. You would have to be a billionaire just to afford the yearly taxes and maintenance fees!

Very interesting. I'm hoping that LTC gains some traction with their recent announcements, and people could really make some money if they were mining and the price suddenly went up. (Are the people considering buying this going to mine LTC or is there another scrypt based coin you want this for?) I really wish I had electricity costs low enough to support mining.

Nice thread. As someone who is new to trading its really helpful to have someone post this info and some explanation as to their thought process. I appreciate your work and will check back later. GL 2 every 1

Where are people trading this coin? I don't even see it listed anywhere. (Although I'm only mostly familiar with the big exchanges.)

Well the bleeding seems to have stopped at 0.0128 for now. I still think long-term investments in this coin are pretty good. People looking to make a quick buck are getting scared and dumping coins. Personally I'm going to hold a few coins and keep my little miners running and pray for a miracle. If another deep dive happens I'm just gonna afk from the markets for the rest of the weekend and check back on Monday lol.

You could play it safe and buy something like Ethereum or Monero (Hopefully Monero doesn't drop below 0.012 but I think that is about as low as it will go right now.) You probably won't make much money but you probably won't lose your investment.
Or you could take a risk and invest in a new coin. You could double/ triple your investment, or you could lose it all.
Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Good luck either way!

Wow never heard of this coin and its exploding today lol. Hope its not just some pump and dump scheme and we actually have some significant news from the development page. I guess we will see in about two days when we have the next "announcement".

Lisk seems interesting, and I actually see a bit of orders on Poloniex and Yobit. I may actually pick up a couple coins now that you mention it.
I'll have to do some reading to see if this is a coin that is actually worth long-term investment.

Personally I was hoping the announcements of several software wallets accepting LTC and the Trezor announcement would get people interested in Litecoin again, but it doesn't seem like anyone is buying. Maybe people are still waiting, but I'm not really seeing any buy orders.

Big rewards are going to come with a big risk. You can play it safe and slow, invest in some stable coins and wait, but you aren't going to make a huge profit. If you want to cash in big you need to be willing to risk losing the money. It's like gambling. Just don't bet more than you can afford to lose. Do some research and hope you have a bit of luck on your side.

Yeah honestly unless someone would be willing to make a huge investment in gear to get the necessary hash power, its probably better for a site/ organization to just set up a donation address. Donators can get coins from whatever means they have (mining, purchase with fiat, trading, etc) and send to that address if they wish. Much less work for the charity/ website. Its definitely an interesting idea, though!

Unless you have a ton of cash and are already in some group, you are just going to end up being the fish holding the bag.
First rule of the internet- trust no one.

Clearly a dead coin. (Kappa) If MoneroMarket has any decent sellers, we should see a few more people buying Monero and the price will stabilize or go back up a bit.
Unless some other coin can keep you totally anonymous and starts being accepted by darknet markets, I feel like Monero is the future of buying illegal goods on the internet. That might not be a great thing for its reputation, but it should bring more users and a rise in price.
|
|
|
So you are buying it purely for profit?
I wouldn't agree that to be the best reason to buy a crypto coin. But then again speculators gonna speculate.
I'm quite sure that 90% of any coin bought is for speculation. How many places actually accept payment in anything besides Bitcoin?
|
|
|
You think that the downward trend will continue with Monero? I was hoping for it to at least maintain current value due to the fact some of the darknet markets started accepting it...
Has anyone heard news about ShadowCash being accepted at any site? Darknet vendors are obviously going to be attracted to a coin that can help them remain anonymous. If Monero fails I suspect people will move to some other anonymous coin.
