Many old cipherpunks thought that this project was naive and doomed from the start. Vitalik is indeed intelligent , but young , inexperienced and unwise. They don't appear to understand that we exist in an adversarial environment 24/7 and one must plan for every possible attack as real money is on the line. QFT. I'm mining ETC just for the principle of it. Now that attitude will create a movement that matters. I know you will not be the only one. The hash rate is increasing and I speculate that those miners are pointing their power to the original Ethereum classic for the same reasons as yours. But having some extra coins would be nice also. |

I'm not convinced of this inside job narrative. It is very naive to assume -- as the anonymous source does -- that one needed to be a Core ETH dev to pull off the attack. None of the ETH or Slock.it devs were capable of recognizing the splitDAO exploit beforehand. Hence, they may not be the foremost experts; others have had many months to analyze Solidity's weaknesses (exposed long before the attack) and the DAO code. Speaking of the splitDAO exploit. Why did they not see this before? Don't they have security reviews and audits before releasing the code? That is mighty incompetent and irresponsible of them. The people who started the DAO should not work in crypto anymore. Please post the names of those people for everyone to see so all their projects will be avoided in the future. |

The majority of miners don't have any ethics and don't care if eth or etc wins. They care which one fills their bags faster. As long as the ETC price is high, miners will switch to ETC.
If price starts dropping, profibility will lower and people will switch back again. It is not a matter of which coin the miners support. And if they did, the clusterfuck is even bigger than before: "Hey let's hardfork to protect our coins" --> ETC price rises --> "Hey let's forget about the fork and continue on the old chain for a while, as long as the hackers doesn't dump, I can make a bit more mining this".
That is right. When the ETC price is 10% of the current value, the hash rate will also be 10% of the current value. But what if ETC reaches ETH's price? Will it get all of ETH's hash rate? Vitalik should not underestimate the movement coming in the original Ethereum classic. The are not motivated by profit but are also motivated by doing what is right despite knowing there is a hacker who holds a lot of coins ready to dump. This is also Vitalik's fault for handling the hard fork sloppily. |

Ow, i miss ETC train, i see yesterday ETC price is 0.0008 - 0.0009 and now 0.004. Is now still good time to buy ETC or price will go down again and i must wait price lower to buy?
DAO attacker owns about 10% of all ETC. You do the maths what happens next once he dumps. That is not stopping the miners from mining the original chain. It is increasing as a matter of fact. It is also not stopping traders from buying ETC. The volume is greater than ETH right now. The hard fork was sloppy. No one expected to see ETC to be supported by a minority that acts. That minority is steadily growing and they are supported by one pillar of the whole equation = The exchanges. Poloniex is in, next Bitfinex and Kraken. I'm sorry. ETC is gaining traction and would be here to stay for a long time whether you like it or not. |

I would say lets dump all classic and new, it's not something we can trust they can do whatever they want while people who bought some eth might get dumped on and simply lose their money.

So the hacked eth still exist? then what did they fork? it's a bit confusing if you are not an expert in crypto and I can say one of the reasons why people are not getting in to it is because of these kind of complications.
Yes in your point of view nothing was solved.  The hacker can trade ETC to ETH in Poloniex by using the ETC/ETH market. He can transfer back to the Ethereum fork and troll Vitalik once again. It was a very sloppy hard fork they did. |

Yes that is called economic consensus. This is the real consensus because everyone is looking out for themselves and when that is satisfied which ever chain wins will benefit. So it was wise for the exchanges to list the original Ethereum classic. They gave us, the whole community a voice by acting thru trading on what you think is good for yourself, and then what is good for the group will follow in your collective actions. Vitalik wanted a hard fork then Vitalik got a hard fork. |

the dao exploiter is out to screw with eth. what could possibly work better for him than the creation of etc? if he's still out there somewhere I think he's gonna get behind it for the lulz. Yes let's see what he can do with 3.6 m stolen ETC and a hash rate collapsing of < 4.5%. Here's a clue... FUCK ALL. The hash rate is 18% of the ETH and the price is also 18% of ETH. So if the hacker dump, the hash rate will decrease. If the hacker dumps then all his coins are in the market now. It will affect the price of course. But after the dump he will have nothing on the platform now. I don't think the hash rate will decrease even if the hacker dumps. There is no connection. There are miners who decided to point their power to the original Ethereum classic despite knowing that there might be a dump. That has not stopped them from mining at Ethereum classic. |

This is good for the supporters of the original Ethereum classic. You have ETC trading at different major exchanges now with Poloniex and soon to follow Kraken and Bitfinex. What is left is a few questions. Who will take over the development of Ethereum classic? Who will fix the network to avoid future attacks and how? Is there a plan to look for the attacker?

I think it's great that he's comfortable with Ethereum Classic project and has no interest in hindering the project. Now if the ETH community can get behind their leader and support that decision it would be great. Be nice to get a little more harmony in that space.
This will be good for everyone. The original Etherem classic supporters should appeal to the miners and mining pools supporting the fork to point their hashing power to the original. Since it is ok for Vitalik to have both chains running side by side then I guess it is ok for their community to crossover and participate in the original and honest chain. |
