121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wallet Hack on 4/25 on: April 29, 2013, 08:18:57 PM
it would probably help if blockchain's iphone and android app didnt store the main password in plaintext.
122  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: 1099's on: April 29, 2013, 12:35:30 AM
The only way to avoid playing taxes is the play the game and beat the taxing agencies with their own rules. If you don't play you loose. If you don't understand the rules, you loose. If you misread the rules you loose. You take everything you can get and use every loophole you can find and have enough "proof" to back it all up and enough lawyers and legal advice to defend it.
123  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin Mining Taxes for USA/Mexico on: April 26, 2013, 06:13:26 PM
Are you a US citizen? If yes, the US owns you forever no matter where you live and you have to pay tax, or file until you relinquish your citizenship.
124  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: This redditor claims 160 BTC stolen from his blockchain acct even with 2 factor on: April 25, 2013, 01:20:27 AM
Blockchains iPhone and android app store your main password in clear text in the db. If you have that, you can simply login, go to export unencrypted and do whatever the hell you want with the private keys. 2 factor or not.

It's useless and it a huge hole that should be plugged.
125  Economy / Speculation / Re: mtgox to crash any time now on: April 24, 2013, 08:06:28 PM
who misses the old gox where you could sell and buy fine, only thing was you could never get your money out?
126  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who else from Avalon batch 1 hasn't received a unit or shipping information? on: April 24, 2013, 07:22:59 PM
OP updated.
127  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: April 23, 2013, 06:23:41 PM
Use older firmware, the one with 2.10.5a IIRC and use username+16 or username+32 diff for stratum to work. Still expect 20-30% DOA, but full speed hashrates after a minute or so.

2.11.4 with the worker threads seems to break p2pool again under stratum.

I've been out of town, plus buried in work and just getting back.
128  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL ASIC STATUS Shipped on: April 23, 2013, 01:28:35 PM
6 units, probably one for each dev, and the rest of everyone can enjoy being not special.
129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Petition to Apple: Allow Bitcoin wallets on iPhone on: April 23, 2013, 01:16:02 PM
Uhh, I already have a BTC wallet on my apple phone...blockchain app, pretty sure it was free too.

which is nice except it stores your password in plaintext and it EASILY hacked.
130  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Somebody is trying to steal batch 1 Avalon shippments from DHL! on: April 23, 2013, 01:09:24 PM
I now had some conversations via email with DHL because i wanted to be sure that wont happen to me. They told me that:
"An address change can be made only by the freight payer, quoting the tracking-number,
or the receiver, should he not be reachable at the target address will get a notice card, it is then possible to deliver in the same area to a new address. However, a prerequisite is the personal presence or power of attorney issued to the person who is authorized to take the shipping by presentation of ID."

So only the sender can change the address. Maybe its different in china but it would be strange that a multinational corporate like DHL will have different rules. On the other hand... who knows who works at these bureaus...
Im not sure what to think about this when this actually happened.

You be surprised how many rules can be ignored for a handful of cash.

You should consider starting. Cheesy
132  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is Gox Lagging?? There's virtually no trades happening! on: April 22, 2013, 02:54:20 PM
it would probably help if mtgox could actually use a decent machine and internet connection. perhaps even hire some decent ddos protection.

the amount of trades that happen could be done on an excel spreadsheet and copied and pasted quicker than gox's "state of the art" exchange operates.
133  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: April 15, 2013, 02:15:49 PM
Since this "is" Avalon users thread let us poor people know how much money you guys have made that you have CASHED in, NOT how many bitcoins you have accumulated. I'm quite curious. Of course if you want to refrain from letting us know how much money you have made that is your liberty and don't need any nasty offending comments that I've offended you for asking. Smiley

I just want to sulk and go into a deep depression from hearing all the numbers.

Haven't sold anything the avalons have made. Did sell some coins I had from before, bought back in when the price dropped.
134  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: what's avalon 's green led flash mean? on: April 14, 2013, 05:31:36 PM
The light means fpga controller isn't actively working. Either cgminer is idle or crashed or hung. Or the controller is crashed and not handing out work to the ASIC units. It only comes on when cgminer crashes or is killed by watchdog.

Power cycle or fix your pool config.

If it still doesn't work, check USB ports, try different USB port on the hub and check power connections and fan connectors.
135  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 1 client, 1 login per GPU ? on: April 12, 2013, 09:44:55 PM
you can have multiple devices in guiminer. just go to the top and pick new opencl miner, presto you get a new tab. set it up, pick the other hardware.

use the summary tab to watch them all.
136  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: April 12, 2013, 09:29:51 PM
cant fix the fpga, its a bug in hardware ( according to xiangfu ). We are going to ditch the serial code and use direct usb. new drivers.  ckolivas and xiangfu are going to try and do that next week. That should let us work around the problem and make things much more fluid.
137  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [25000 GH] BTC Guild - PPS/PPLNS with TxFees, Stratum+Vardiff ASIC Tested on: April 11, 2013, 06:03:06 PM

same problems here, up and down, eleuthria are you drunk at work again Cheesy
139  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: is it safe to set core frequency to 300Mhz (Extreme) for avalon? on: April 11, 2013, 02:56:06 PM
Discards are pool or protocol. In stratum/GBT you make up work as you go, if the block changes, the work is discarded. If it's stale and submitted or duplicated work, its rejected. HW errors are just that, the hardware hung doing something and had to be reset.

as long as your work is mostly accepted shares, you are good. If you see a very high % ( >10 % ) of rejected/stale or HW errors then something is wrong.
140  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: April 11, 2013, 02:23:14 AM
I'm having a problem with my Avalon. It was mining without a restart for 16 hours and then it stopped. In the API log I get: Socket connect failed: Connection refused 4 times. I haven't changed anything and even after a few restarts it won't mine. I tried the latest firmware also. Any ideas?

Edit: I checked and reseated some of the cables and it's still the same.

If you have yellow led, it means cgminer isn't running or there's a Fpga controller problem.

Check the USB hub, make sure it is all plugged in well. Try another port on the USB hub.
