What the heck is happening over at btc24? The Euro is at high 58s with respectable volume.

its not just btc24, bitcoincentral is even higher, Americans need to catch up (but maybe their funds don't get through).

you can thank our retarded government and tax system for fucking up all the international banking and money transfers.

here's another hope bitcoin catches on bigtime.
282  Economy / Speculation / Re: Things are happening behind closed doors, very important for Bitcoin things. on: March 22, 2013, 08:11:12 PM
Well,

While having absolutely no idea what Vladimir is talking about,

I can confirm that very big, positive things for bitcoin are happening behind closed doors Smiley

are you surfing the forums without pants again? Cheesy

285  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: March 22, 2013, 07:49:12 PM
Possibly customs since you ordered so many but that is just a guess.

DHL would know it's in customs.
286  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What is the price of Batch 3? on: March 22, 2013, 07:47:13 PM
Those of you bringing USD into this need to shut the fuck up. This isn't a USD mining machine, you don't buy it with USD, the USD-BTC exchange rate is inconsequential. The exchange rate is only the problem of people who want to be part of the corrupt governments rigged economy. The exchange rate is unrelated to this transaction.

You are buying a device in bitcoins to mine bitcoins to have bitcoins to take part in a bitcoin economy. Anybody who says different is just a profiteer trying to take away from what has been built here.

It is an issue if you need to purchase bitcoins.

It doesn't matter if you purchase something in bitcoins, USD, bottlecaps or seashells. Any currency has a value associated to it.

bitcoin right now has incredible volatility. it can change by the hour. Lately its been going up. tomorrow it could be much less or much more. in a month or two, who knows? We could pop right back down to $5 per btc, or rocket past $200. it's value matters then.

Batch 3 has been made into a gamble because of this on price alone. If you count avalons customer service and shipping rate and order management it's even more of a gamble.
287  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Have any Canadians received their batch #1 Avalons? on: March 22, 2013, 07:41:07 PM
Have you emailed Yifu? My early batch 1 order was MIA too and I emailed him and did get a response within a day.

I still haven't received my units or a tracking number but he did confirm my units were going out.
288  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What is the price of Batch 3? on: March 22, 2013, 07:29:52 PM
FWIW, I paid 114 BTC for a batch 1 unit, and 75 BTC for batch 2.

you paid $1,299 + 120 for batch one and $1500 for batch 2.  You sold your coins for that value at the time of the sale.

Those were the terms. Applying bitcoin value retroactively doesn't apply.

Oh, but it does. The whole purpose of buying Avalon unit is to generate bitcoins. So, we should think and calculate ROI for this project in BTC, not USD terms. It does not matter if the manufacturer price is expressed in BTC or USD.

I invested 114btc back in October and if it arrives tomorrow, I can expect it to produce 4.42btc per day (post diff adjustment), consuming about 0.06btc of electricity per day. That gives me 26 days to break even on my initial high-risk investment, after waiting for 6 months for the delivery. That is, 26 days if difficulty stays the same. But it won't stay the same, it will skyrocket down the road. Given the uncertainty of initial investment, I do not think that the rates of return for 1st batch Avalon pre-orders are unreasonable.

2nd batch Avalon dropped the price considerably in btc terms, and it was absolutely the BEST deal in terms of ROI. No wonder the demand was crazy.

With the 3rd batch, Avalon is still cheaper than the 1st batch customers paid, with much more certainty about the outcome.

Even if it made 100 btc per day, if the value of them crashes, what then? Bitcoin issue is volatility. Are you in it for money or bitcoins?

The first two batches avalon sold for bitcoins, but the bitcoins were sold instantly by a processor. You may have sent bitcoins but you paid USD for them.

bitcoins value is only useful at the time of a transaction.

comparing historical values one way or the other is foolish.

remember the 10,000 btc pizzas?

Did you end up getting your units yet?

No

It's not the weekend, its the end of the month. There's always profit taking at the end of a month, people pay bills, Expect a dip.

Has Avalon sent a really nice fruit basket to Butterfly Labs to thank them for allowing them to be able to extract these rents from the market?   Do not get me wrong, I completely agree with what Avalon is doing as it makes perfect sense (and actually may make this a more orderly business as people will have to think for a minute before pulling the trigger).

Buy Bitcoins because they are going nowhere but UP as people will need to buy more than they expected.

I wonder if Avalon would still ask for 88btc if the price of BTC dropped to $40 or even less. Hey, as a group can we make that happen?

Dump our btc just to see what some dude will do with his price ? That will be like shooting yourself in the foot for fun. Smiley

Why would anyone buy avalon at 88btc if by the time it gets to you you could have traded 88btc on exchange several times and made 88btc every 2-4 weeks without avalon?

Can you double your money every few weeks by trading?

If you had a crystal ball you could double your money every couple days.

the problem with bitcoin right now is it's volatility. It could double in value, or it could halve. it could be worth a fortune, or nothing. It's not slow swings either. it goes way up, or way down very fast.

When i called DHL they had nothing for me so i tried an email. After giving them my address, they found the tracking number.
Until now there is only the tracking information but no package on the way.

what's the DHL email address?

I'm 2...300 yifu emailed me that it was shipped but so far nothing, just waiting.
296  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The latest Avalon announcement in China(Translated). Batch #3, price and more. on: March 21, 2013, 02:50:28 PM
If you owned Avalon how much would you charge?

If it were me, I'd be mining the hell out of units before I shipped them and call it QA.

I'm assuming avalon was/is doing this, delaying batch 1 ship so long as well as batch 2.

you can have an expensive niche, or make it up in volume.

in the real world the development costs are virtually the same it's only a logistical difference.

avalon would do better to just double the price to 3,000 and open up orders, FIFO, no more batches. BFL style. Just take backorders. Get the cash up front and hire some cheap labor to bang the units out. QA mine them and start shipping them in volume. They are in china, there's dozens upon dozens of shops and labor places they can just upload specs to and consign it.

making an artificial restriction and pricing in a hypothetical ROI is a poor business move. especialy considering the goals of securing the bitcoin network. lots of asics are better than a few elite ones.
297  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Diablo Miner and Slush on: March 21, 2013, 01:25:40 PM
It's something you have typed in that not setting the api right. Make sure you dont have double quores or brackets or anything . It could also be a bug with the site you are using that they changed the format and the program doesn't understand it. you are still hashing, its just bitching it cant read the balance info.
298  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The latest Avalon announcement in China(Translated). Batch #3, price and more. on: March 21, 2013, 01:18:23 PM
[...] why would ASIC vendors sell a machine for $1500 that make 6-8k a month? I think this answers the question pretty clearly, They wouldn't!

Seems you've forgotten about Batches #1 and #2...

I distinctly remember BTC being worth around $6 a piece for batch 1 and a volatile $25 for batch 2.

Pretty much. And now half of Batch #1 is mining at $65 pulling in $10k a month so far. Hence the original confusion...

and the other half still doesn't have their units, all of batch two doesn't and they are trying to push batch 3 at a huge markup in value and another unclear delivery date with a break thrown in.

and before the whole btc=btc and batch 1 cost 100+ btc each remember the terms of the sale were you were agreeing you sold your coins for mtgox value the day of the sale. so the units were really the USD value, not $5500+ the btc would be worth today.

12.1, don't use polcbm. Use diablo or Phoenix. Really you should ditch guiminer and use cgminer with diablo.
300  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The latest Avalon announcement in China(Translated). Batch #3, price and more. on: March 20, 2013, 08:55:06 PM
we discussed batch3 price for a long time.

personally, i do think this is a reasonable price.

batch#1: 1300USD + your trust,  batch#2: 1500USD + your trust, batch#3 = ?

why batch 1 and batch2 customers will enjoy such a low USD price and extremly high profit? because they put their valuable trust on us.

last September, most of you think we have little chance to win, or could be a crappy scam, you don't buy.

this January, considerable people think we take Jeff down or just spent 400K to make a prototype, you don't buy.

now, everything on track, machines delivered to your hands are only a matter of time. you want to buy them at a same price or something like 2000USD.

OK, please tell me, what is the price of people most valuable things "trust" should be? 500USD? no, 5000USD at least.

as a core developer, i look upon all Avalons as my son. i will send them to who believe us, not the faithless or buzzard.

Double the price is reasonable, 4+ times the "price" with another indefinite wait is absurd. Especially considering the hiccups and the delays and the general stonewalling of the people ( like me ) who ordered batch1 and batch 2 and still have nothing but a few emails and promises of "its shipped".

If you want to sell them for 100btc and you have them in stock and are shipping the next day and guarantee delivery in a week, yeah maybe the price works for the profiteers.

If you want 100 btc and you jerk everyone around like the last 2 orders, ignore the users asking for very little information and don't maintain a delivery schedule, it not going to happen. People are going to go to BFL, get their SC or minirig in the same time frame and have smaller more efficient devices.

Avalon has a niche, exploit it a little, don't go raping people. The guys who are buying them mostly are people like me, not profiteers, we are hobbyists. I'm not rich. I'm a poor college researcher like you.

Dr Zhang you've always been a straight shooter and very knowledgeable. You guys deserve a profit. If you need a huge profit then just publically mine with half a batch and make your money there and sell the other half. Limit orders to one per person and premine the units for a week or whatever then ship them off. But demanding a ridiculous cost in btc up front with vague delivery and distant support is not what I've come to expect from team avalon.
