501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New type of Mastercard - virtual keyboard and virtual LCD on: November 09, 2012, 02:06:18 PM
Quote
If this contains a virtual device inside the card, we can "hack" it and add Bitcoin, piggy backing on a Mastercard.
If the manufacturing fuse is blown then the software becomes read-only. It cannot then be reprogrammed.

There already are credit card sized devices with LCD and buttons.

What do you mean "Virtual"?
Probably confused virtual with digital.

There is always a way... and it usually something a 12 yr old can figure out.
502  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Neighbourhood Pool Watch 9.1 ASIC choices on: November 07, 2012, 04:08:21 PM
Aren't you forgetting that the BFL SC and bASIC are going to need a PC of some sort, which is going to add at least another 100 watts?

The avalon is a complete standalone unit.

No, I didn't forget that. The blog post does state my assumptions most clearly.

I didn't know that Avalon was stand alone - and that will make a difference. Thanks for letting me know. Do you have a link to confirm this?

It's always been advertised as such

Avalon self-contained unit >= 60GH/s guaranteed.
pre-order price: $1,299.
note: host PC NOT required. LAN/WIFI connection required.
503  Other / Off-topic / Re: Already delays in BFL shipment plans? on: November 05, 2012, 05:52:18 PM

I am not in the habit of giving six plus month loans interest free.

Anyway... I was not the first to gpu mine and i still did just fine. Asic will be no different.

It was a serious question though. Many did calcs based on getting in on 50 btc reward time frame which is quickly slipping away. Now it seems we have 25 block reward and price that is flat for future asic miners. Getting hardware first is becoming uber critcal for quick roi. If all ship in same time frame you essentially swapped gpu for asic with no quick roi as diff will adjust oh so fast instead of slower ramp up due to just bfl hardware coming first.

Tons of people preorder MMO's and video games all the time way before release date, so it's not unheard of for that to happen.  As for RoI, anyone that calculated RoI and assumed the 50 BTC rewards for anything more than 1 difficulty level is an idjit.  All my RoI calculations were done assuming 25x to 50x difficulty increase/reward drop calculations.

When you preorder a video game or pretty much anything they don't charge you until it ships. They may charge a initial deposit of a couple dollars are most.
504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does cgminer always say rejected when mining litecoin? on: November 04, 2012, 05:49:52 PM
Yep, as above if you don't specify scrypt in the command line or the .conf it'll just be rejected blocks/shares.

Your hash rate should be very very low too.  If you are seeing more than 1 mhash or 1000khash it's wrong, unless you have serious power. 10gh on btc is only 10mh on litecoin.

It's called p2pool. Lol.

Sorry to see you go, I loved this pool in the beginning.

508  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [Project X] PPS Mining Club: High Mining Rewards *REGISTRATION OPEN* on: November 01, 2012, 01:28:14 AM
That's mostly my fault. I had to drop because of the storm and other issues. I'm the only regular big time miner so I'm sure the pool is suffering when it can't get enough work. I'm sorry, I'll return when I can.
509  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: "Avalon" ASIC, announcement & pre-order. pre-order over. project started. on: October 31, 2012, 01:40:24 PM
Do these ship from china?
Yes
510  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: October 31, 2012, 12:55:42 AM
I'm running Win7 64bit with 12gb of RAM and a 3 core 3.0ghz processor and P2Pool is always losing connection to bitcoind. What can I do to keep bitcoin running properly?

Open task manager and drop bitcoin priority to below normal.
511  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL refunds works flawlessly and fast on: October 30, 2012, 07:35:54 PM
If panic, panic first.

What if shipment is delayed to Jan 1013? Feb? March? And many, many people want refunds. Will BFL be able do this? My bet is: No. They don't have that amount of money left ...

Their official policy is pretty clear:

Quote
Payments made for pre-orders of ASIC based products now under development should be considered non-refundable.

So far, few people have been requesting refunds. That's going to change as more and more delays happen.
Well given OP's avatar we all know he's a plant Cheesy
512  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: October 30, 2012, 06:21:23 PM
yey just 2 blocks in 1 minute Cheesy

wtf? shut the hell up Cheesy

p2pminers are unionized, if they hear you talking about luck they'll take the week off.
513  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC Development Status on: October 26, 2012, 09:02:12 PM
Heh.. if you say so!

well hurry up and build a working asic so we will all know already. Stop farking off in the forums and start soldering or cursing at someone in mandarin Tongue
514  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC Development Status on: October 26, 2012, 06:10:39 PM
That would not be true.  EMC, BTCguild, Slush and Eligius are all ready and waiting for ASIC.

No one knows if they are ready because no one has a working asic to test.

The BFL singles had issues with pools and clients when they first came out. They still don't work well with p2pool because of how the bitstream works.

Asic are basically just hardcoded fpga, but faster. No one really knows yet exactly what hiccups there will be, but I think for the first few weeks after they hit it's going to be very interesting and very bumpy.

The majority of the asics save the japalepeno? are going to be multithreaded or appear as a multi gpu/asic device, so each device is going to request several works at once and return several at once, hundreds or thousands of times faster than now. Even with stratum and nrolltime allowing the miner to save requesting and generate it's own work, they have to go back up to a pool and get confirmed. It's going to be interesting
515  Other / Off-topic / Re: Already delays in BFL shipment plans? on: October 26, 2012, 06:04:47 PM
The sad thing is, BFL's eggs are all in one basket. They are counting in just in time manufacturing. One hiccup, one parts vendor shortage or significant delay or a chip respin because it was rushed and they are SOL.
516  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Interesting 5970 HW Problem on: October 26, 2012, 06:00:22 PM
How are you controlling your clocks? Flash modding or afterburner or cgminer or ?
517  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC Development Status on: October 26, 2012, 04:10:19 AM
Why would the pools disappear?
If someone mines with a single gpu now and has 1/10000th of the total networkspeed and gets a asic and still has a 1/10000th of the total networkspeed, it's still a good idea to use a pool.

All the major pools now won't support an ASIC. There has to be major changes for them to support ASIC. Especially at the beginning when ASIC are returning easy work extremely fast. Even with stratum there's going to be major bandwidth problems in the beginning.
518  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Interesting 5970 HW Problem on: October 26, 2012, 04:03:45 AM
Open up gpuz and look at all the gpu temps on the sensor tab. Not just the "main" one. I'll bet you have a hot spot on part of the core somewhere where the thermal paste is migrating. I've had mine report the temp at 55 and had a hot spot that was 87 .
519  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: October 26, 2012, 03:47:35 AM
I have a feeling this weekend is going to be a nightmare.

Do we really have to go through this every month end?  People sell to pay bills. It's like fucking bitcoin PMS. If you are smart you buy now and sell around the 12th.
520  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: October 25, 2012, 06:31:34 PM
Heh, your single digit prediction might just come true

I think there's a really good chance of it.  It all depends on what happens in the next few weeks, I think.  And, really, it turns on whether there's a strong move up.  If there isn't soon, then I think the weight of this weekly crossover will depress the price for several months.  The wild card is the reward change, but I'm of the opinion that if anything it will negatively affect price.

QFT.

Especially when all these new asic miners, who now get half of what people are used to, want a ROI of their hardware.
They spent millions of dollars.. and do we really think they are all going to horde btc? Nope. They want their USD back
ASAP. Then maybe they will horde btc again.

If I spent 5K on asic hardware.. i know I would want my USD back. At that point it is not a hobby but a business.

the asics were bought with hoarded bitcoins. I bought my asics with coins I mined 2 years ago before the first boom. I still have plenty left and I plan to sit on them, if I sold them 2 years ago i could've bought a pizza, now I can buy a house.  Most people are aware of that, so unless something bad happens that causes everyone to drop their positions and stop hoarding, the market is going to be tight.
