Bitcoin’s Influence in the Gaming Landscape

Quote
The concept of digital currency has been in the gaming sector for a while now.  If you are used to playing games online or on a mobile phone then you will be familiar with the game coins or special XP points. Whenever you reach a milestone these XP points gets credited, which can be used to buy upgrades. In order to accumulate enough points, you will have to put in a lot of gaming hours. Alternatively, one can buy these achievement points in the form of in-app (or in-game) purchases. In order to make these purchases, one has to pay with fiat currency.

There are many online gambling platforms where people have been wagering with fiat currency. This might be more relevant to destinations outside of the US and there are those who play with the “cryptocurrency” bitcoin – this is for both standard gaming and online gambling.

Let’s take a closer look at bitcoin developments in both the online gaming and gambling industries:

123  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] MangoCoinz Official ANN Thread - Mine cryptocurrencies on you smart phone on: June 19, 2015, 08:16:30 AM
The app has been published on Google Play Store. It will take about 2 hours before it becomes public. Keep in mind that this is a new app, and once it goes public, mining will be shut down in all old apps. You will be able to transfer all your coins from the old app to the new one. You will need to register a new account with your email to use the new app. All accounts that are active on the iPhone app can now also login to the new Android app (they will be logged out on the iPhone of course).

If you have any problems with the app, or with logging in, please contact us. We will get it fixed.

Already registered users mining with old apps will have an assisted migration or need to re-register? Can we wait to migrate to the new app until a fully stable app release came out?

I have 1 Gb free on my phone's storage, but your app keeps complaining that it cannot install due to insufficient space... Is this a bug, or does it need a huge amount of storage?

Check where your phone install Apps. If your phone available memory is not enough, you may need to install MCZ mining app in the external memory (MicroSD card).
125  Economy / Gambling / Re: == OFFICIAL 2014 BITCOIN GAMBLING AWARDS == Vote for your favorite website! on: June 19, 2015, 07:35:02 AM
Hello

Anyone casout some btc from btc-casino.io?
This is the worst casino I've ever play
I will vote for primedice
I also vote for btc-casino.io as a SCAM.

I never gambled at btc-casino.io; however, if you're looking for a better place to gamble your BTC, I may suggest you to give a try to dadice.com. It's an amazing place to enjoy rolling dice as well as to try & win BTC money. This because their Pilot Mode autobetting allow players a good degree of control on your play, even allowing you to set the end of betting streak after a win. Their scalable faucet - you can level up the reedemable amount to 12500 satoshi (0.00012500BTC) - allow you to test & refine your gambling strategies, without losing too much BTC of your own. Also, the speed of Deposits & Cashouts at Da Dice is very fast.
Da Dice is a provably fair dice site with a low 1% house edge, Jackpots and a live chat to talk to other online users (and sometime catch tips gifted by chat mods). Also, the site has a splendid design & looks really good.

Theories Abound Amid Greek Default and Bitcoin Price Breakout

Quote
After months of relative calm, the price of bitcoin broke out this week, spiking to a high of $257 on 17th June.

Of particular focus for many observers was the speed at which the market made its gains, with most of the run occurring between 13:00 and 15:00 UTC on 16th June. Though such volatility is by no means uncommon in the bitcoin market, the wider community quickly sought to correlate the market movement to larger trends.

One of the most prominent theories that emerged was related to the market's timing, which roughly coincided with growing indications that Greece will likely default on its debt obligations. Nicknamed the "Grexit", some believe the default could result in Greece leaving the eurozone, even as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other European leaders strive to downplay such speculation.

Lopes indicated that CoinBR will seek to acquire a merchant processor to complement its existing mining, exchange and wallet services, a purchase made possible through profits from his bitcoin mining operations and Sao Paulo-based VoIP provider Othos Telecomunicacoes.

Accordingly to CoinDesk article Consensus 2015: Santander Head of Innovation to Discuss Blockchain Tech their head of R&D will discuss BME:SAN involvement in the blockchain space at Consensus 2015 event.

The part that might be the most important is this : < Other "attractive features" of the technology include transaction irreversibility, near-instantaneous clearing and settlement and a reduced margin of error, as individual transactions are openly verified by a community of network users. >
The problem with this is, we as the consumer will never see the benefit of these savings. The saving will benefit the shareholders and investors and the consumer will still be exploited with high fees.
I guess every satoshi they make use of helps in the long run for all of us in terms of the price. The more outfits that implore the blockchain to do business for them is an ultimate boon to what we're doing here especially in a time like this when we're trying to crush a bear market and move on from a historical bullet to the head/price.

I suppose a widespread adoption of blockchain for business use could support a bull phase for BTC price. However, i could put some stakes - aka - also on BME:SAN since they could be a step ahead of their competitors if they are the first to deploy blockchain to reap savings in their ops. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch, however.

Canadian Senate Panel Calls for "Light Touch" Bitcoin Regulation

Quote
A long-anticipated report published by the Canadian Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce has called for a regulatory "light touch" on bitcoin and digital currencies.

The report, entitled "Digital Currency: You Can't Flip This Coin!", comes after a months-long review that included a number of hearings before the Senate committee, and will undoubtedly play a role in how the government shapes future regulation.

The committee recommended that the government look for ways to utilize digital currencies and blockchain technology, deeming the technology "ingenious" and capable of potentially meeting critical needs in both the financial sector and the unbanked in the world.

EBA: 51% Attack Remains Bitcoin’s Biggest Problem

Quote
Bitcoin’s biggest problem is still the threat of a 51% attack, according to Dr Dirk Haubrich, head of consumer protection and financial innovation at the European Banking Authority (EBA).

He said his main concern about the widespread adoption of bitcoin is the risk of a 51% attack, where a single entity contributes the majority of the network’s mining hashrate and, thus, gains full control of the network and can manipulate the blockchain.

Haubrich made these comments on Friday at an event titled Controlling Cryptocurrencies at the University of Birmingham in the UK.

Magnr, formerly BTC.sx – a bitcoin derivatives trading platform – has rebranded and is now offering bitcoin saving accounts with an interest rate fixed at 2.18% for a promotional period of six months.

Following this, the interest rate will be variable, dependent on trading fees generated by users on the platform. Magnr declined to reveal its trading volume but said that it had surpassed 60,000 total trades earlier this year.

When asked about the potential implications of bitcoin's price volatility on users' interest rates, Josh Blatchford, chief marketing officer at Magnr, emphasized that those saving bitcoin would likely always benefit users through positive returns.

Erik Voorhees: BitLicense Requires 'Reckless' Data Collection

Quote
ShapeShift recently made headlines after its announcement that it would cease offering services to New York residents as a result of the finalization of the BitLicense digital currency regulatory framework. In an interview with the New York Post, Voorhees described the customer data requirements imposed by the BitLicense as “Orwellian”.

New York users trying to access ShapeShift are instead directed to PleaseProtectConsumers.org, a site that protests the BitLicense framework and currently lists ShapeShift as its sole participant.

Voorhees said that the biggest issue for his company is the risk to users whose information would be collected by regulators – an arrangement that he says exposes them to hacking vulnerabilities that could result in their data being stolen and exploited.

Bitcoin Exchange Kraken Launches New Dark Pool

Quote
San Francisco-based digital currency exchange Kraken has launched a new dark pool for bitcoin trades.

The dark pool, which functions as an invisible order book separate from its public offering, is intended to provide a means for traders to move more than 50 BTC (roughly $12,500 at press time) on the market in relative secret.

Dark pools are used throughout the global financial system, though the practice has faced rising scrutiny from regulators, and banks have been penalized in the past for unlawful activity within the dark pools they operate. Supporters of dark pools say they help stabilize markets and reduce costs.
