121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Android key rotation on: August 13, 2013, 01:40:27 AM
I'm wondering if this means they aren't updating Bitcoin Spinner?  Got my phone set up the way I want it, and this means switching yet another app out.  I don't have any bitcoins in it right now, and probably won't in the near future anyway.  Haven't sent anything from it in months, so I'm not in too big a hurry to update it.
According to Jan, an update to bitcoinspinner was pushed to google play, will appear soon.

It seems that the update for BitcoinSpinner is pushed to Google Play now according to the version history. I've emailed Jan to ask him to provide short instruction text to be published on bitcoin.org .
122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Android key rotation on: August 12, 2013, 06:57:15 PM
Could the OP be updated to include a list of apps that have been updated against this bug?  I don't want to read through the whole 8 pages to find out which apps have and have not been updated, and I'm sure it'd be helpful to other people as well.

These are the current statuses:

From http://bitcoin.org/en/alert/2013-08-11-android - they should be getting updated daily.

Blockchain.info just released v3.54 , I've updated the page, it should refresh in the next minutes. Afterwhile, perhaps that few more details will be added but since all stated wallets now have updates published, I guess that most of it is over. Now it's just a matter of waiting for these updates to deploy and stay around to see how it goes.

Thanks for your great work, as always!
124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Android key rotation on: August 12, 2013, 04:42:52 PM
I discovered this flaw and made it known to Mike Hearn, Andreas Schildbach and Ben Reeves. It's been quite a week.

Very much appreciated, thanks. And thanks to every developers who worked to push updates and instructions in a very short delay.
125  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What is happening with paymium? on: August 12, 2013, 02:16:07 AM
The Paymium team is actively testing the new version of bitcoin-central: the plan is for bitcoin-central to resume trading by the end of the month (i.e September 1st at the latest). There will be a new banking partner to receive deposits in EUR only.

That's good, but how about Paymium and Paytunia respective websites (and services in the case of paytunia)?
126  Economy / Service Discussion / What is happening with paymium? on: August 10, 2013, 12:27:59 AM
It's been at least a week that paymium.com and paytunia.com are offline.

Recently, bitcoin central showed a refreshed layout announcing upcoming partnerships. But right now, it seems that we've got back to the old bitcoin central website.

Any idea about what is happening there? I didn't find a thread about it.
127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of all Bitcoin conferences around the world on: July 19, 2013, 03:34:42 AM
I also try to keep listing important conferences or events on bitcoin.org here: http://bitcoin.org/en/events

But as a suggestion, I would love to see a larger list of conferences all over the world (including the very small ones) listed on the Wiki on this page:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Conferences

This way, I could add a link to it on http://bitcoin.org/en/events
And this would help to give a greater visibility to all of these events.
128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone is sending out 0.001 BTC's to hundreds of random people. Who and why? on: July 15, 2013, 08:32:29 AM
Actually, re-thinking the de-anonymization attack theory, 0.001 BTC would actually need to be sent to addresses that have already spent bitcoins in order to restore traceability of transactions. If no transaction happened from that address, then there is nothing to de-anonymize. So far, all Bitcoin addresses receiving 0.001 BTC that I have looked seems to have never sent any bitcoins. So, unless I'm missing something, it's probably not meant to be used for network analysis. But this could have been the case.
129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Re-structure bitcoin.org design and layout on: July 14, 2013, 04:32:47 PM
Thanks for the feedback! That's useful.

This pull request does not change the "Choose your wallet" page, so these improvements can be done seperately.

I agree that it would be nice to somehow keep the warning visible after it has been clicked. Good idea.

Concerning the responsive design, the "Choose your wallet" page is the only page that isn't entirely available to mobiles. Yet, I would like to make it available. It's just a matter of finding the time to create a different design for mobiles with current layout. In this case, current HTML code apparently cannot work both on mobiles and scale correctly with translations. So it would probably be required to duplicate some HTML and display only the desktop or the mobile version according to the context.
130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re-structure bitcoin.org design and layout on: July 14, 2013, 05:48:39 AM
I've been working hard to prepare an important update for bitcoin.org .

Here is a preview for those who want to give feedback : EDIT, Now published

--

Most important changes:
- Right buttons are removed and merged with the menus.
- A new introductive home page with WeUseCoins video.
- A new "Getting started" page with links to external merchants and exchanges directories.
- A Re-design for "Community", "Resources" and "Download" pages.
- New links to bitcoinmining.com, coindesk, thegenesisblock, usebitcoins.info and howtobuybitcoins.info
- Titles and pages summary are consistent and centered.

This work has been done with the following goals in mind:
- Provide a better introduction to Bitcoin.
- Bring users to inform themselves before anything.
- Link more contextual useful resources with an acceptable level of warnings.
- Offer a more consistent, sober and readable layout.

Tested browsers:
IE 6+
FF 3+
OP 10+
SA 3+
CH --
Android 2.3

Future improvements:
I planned to replace the About page by a FAQ later, and rewrite the Innovation page.

Migration:
Deprecated transitional HTML and CSS code is isolated in such a way that previous layouts will remain online for translations until they have been updated, after what it will be possible to drop this code.
131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone is sending out 0.001 BTC's to hundreds of random people. Who and why? on: July 14, 2013, 05:06:07 AM
If people who have some of these want to get together and jointly spend them, ala  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=139581.0  that might sound fun.

Now that's fun!
132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone is sending out 0.001 BTC's to hundreds of random people. Who and why? on: July 14, 2013, 04:52:49 AM
These 0.001 BTC transactions indeed randomly restore traceability of transactions once they are spent, regardless of the real motivation of the sender. Not very nice.

And given the number of transactions that have already spent these 0.001, it is apparently working well.
133  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: [ANN] Berlin Bitcoin Conference 2014 on: June 29, 2013, 06:04:22 AM
Hey!

When you have something concrete, you can ask for visibility on http://bitcoin.org/en/events

(Will also be visible in the German version of the website)

You can find instructions to ask to submit your conference on bitcoin.org website in the "About bitcoin.org" page (at the bottom).

Thanks for the time you are taking to create such important events!
134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US BITCOIN REGULATION "FOR" or "AGAINST" on: June 28, 2013, 06:50:35 PM
Nobody ask for regulations, they come to you.

Nobody like regulations, but any serious business must either comply or be shut down. Edit : (And Bitcoin is not a business, but there are Bitcoin businesses)

..So, I wonder what can be relevant in that question. Being "For" or "Against" regulations does strictly nothing.

136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Events page on bitcoin.org on: June 24, 2013, 02:52:12 AM
Could be a good idea, but it would be limited to events which received official backing from bitcoin.org so there would not be many of them. Alternatively, bitcoin.org may consider charging a fee to people who would want to announce something on that page. The fee would cover the time necessary to check the event's value.

Thanks for your ideas. I'm willing to give it a try without asking for fees. I doubt that there will be enough events to cause problems. Organizing a conference or anything serious involves costs and a lot of job. And as long as the events are focused on Bitcoin and have a clear website, promoting them doesn't require much verifications and it is just good for everyone. I am thankful that there is people in that community working to create such events.

That said, that makes me think that it might be good to mention on that page that those events are held by different organizers.
137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Events page on bitcoin.org on: June 23, 2013, 08:20:58 AM
Hey,

I'd like to add an "Events" page on bitcoin.org for important conferences and other events focused on Bitcoin.
Preview : http://bitcoinevents.us.to/en/events

Yet, I'm sure that I'm missing some. So if you have any suggestion.
Of course, only events focused on Bitcoin with enough participants and/or known attendees. Smaller events can already be published in the meetups section of this forum and the Events page link to it.

Unfortunately, the Wiki conference page is not up to date, in case someone is interested to maintain it :

138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I want to redesign the Bitcoin.org website on: June 23, 2013, 06:18:16 AM
I'm also all for a new Bitcoin logo

I would like to suggest to keep this question seperate and do incremental work instead. Because whole Bitcoin identity is spreading everywhere using current logo. Changing this is likely to be much more difficult and require some sort of very wide consensus. This can very well be done after (or concurrently) if this idea ever succeeds without blocking current redesign work.
139  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I want to redesign the Bitcoin.org website on: June 23, 2013, 04:20:30 AM

A big visual challenge that hasn't been well met, IMHO, is how to graphically depict the block chain...

Yes, +1 for this. I did what I could, and I still think it's better than before. But still, you are not the only one to think this. Improvements welcome.
140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I want to redesign the Bitcoin.org website on: June 23, 2013, 04:18:29 AM
Hey! Nice to see this happening!

I am the one who actually reworked the new bitcoin.org and I handle most of the updates on it since a few months. The layout of the menu has been just recently changed to a dropdown menu in order to make the layout less cluttered while allowing some more room for content like an "Events" page. You might want to re-consider your design based on these recent changes. The "Press" and "Enthusiasts" pages were not considered relevant by many at the same level than "Individuals", "Businesses" and "Developers". Press is now a resource and "Enthusiasts" is now "Innovation". I planned to suggest a complete rewrite of this page to focus on concrete technical innovations and their potential uses and good sides.

If you want to continue this re-design project until we get something concrete, well tested and with enough consensus from everyone that it's better, improvements are welcome. There are a few challenges, including compatibility with mobile devices and IE6 (for Chinese users), which I succeeded to provide in the last months with various other work. I also agree that the actual main page is probably too sober. Though however, in general, from the comments I received, people always had the opposite opinion for all other pages : the design became more sober over time to fit those comments. So this might actually be something to work on with your design.

For what it's worth, I personally think that there is a potential nice start here but that further work would be good.

There was also this attempt in the past, but I didn't get an answer from the designer who did it when I contacted him recently.
http://forrst.com/posts/Rebranding_of_Bitcoin-Ft5

The current website (with build instructions) is on github : https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin.org and you can indeed add a pull request for review here when you have something you feel is ready for review. I can assist you if you have questions and I can help integrating your work with the current website code.

Edit1 : I forgot to mention that the current design is also translation friendly : All contents scale or provide enough space so that translations with variation in sizes won't cause ugly overflows with buttons, menus and such. From what I see, the three icons "Instant P2P transactions", "Worldwide payments".. could hit problems with that.

Edit2 : bitcoin.org is mainly managed by Bitcoin core developers and me so far. Having the opinion of Bitcoin foundation members is good, but not a requirement.
