'bylaws' for coins?
what planet do you live on?
emc2 is the coin for the bureaucrats?
bureaucracy is always a very good idea we don't have enough.

bureaucrats lmao

hahahahaaa,

long before there were "bylaws for coins", or bureaucrats for govts, or written text for people there were 'common laws' -- unwritten understandings that guided you through life.  As the earth got more populated and people lived closer and closer there was greater need for more well defined understandings and expectations.

The bylaws are for the continuity of the respective communities not so much for the coin itself, look around do you see any coin communities without a developer, do you know of any coin communities that was PND raided to the point of near death; how about this do you know of any coin communities that don't have a 'foundation'?

The simple facts are: without leadership a coin will surely die, and without an organized membership coin communities will suffer greatly when adversity strikes.  Bylaws make it easier to know what to do, and what to expect, that's what every civilized society wants, expects, and deserves.

Not one family has ever existed without rules, even if it only had one rule -- 'no rules'.

Spoetnik, you received a real invitation to sit on a real committee, vetting a real project, for a real cause-coin.

I don't know why you are paranoid, I know it's probably rare for you to get invitations to do good, but yes its real.

After seeing a number of your posts I've come to the conclusion that you appear to have a sincere desire to willingly
see negativity where none exist in order to have something to complain about, that is both intriguing and perplexing.
Nevertheless it may serve a good purpose on a vetting committee in which their purpose is to find things that may
otherwise be hard to see.  A vetting committee is actually looking for bad in order not to reward evil, although we
are careful not to manufacture facts.

Take the opportunity to put your dreadful paranoia to good work, join the EMC2 vetting committee.
1223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bylaws For Your Coin Community on: November 27, 2014, 02:01:58 AM
a guy before said on Poloniex chat he was into EMC2 because it helped combat Ebola disease..
i said well that is odd because the funding for it is paid for by the US dept of defense and contracted out two only two labs.
so either your under contract and getting a pay check from the US gov or you doing what with this coin now ? LOL

So if there is work being done how is it setup technically ? which lab is being connected to ? the one in Winnipeg Canada ? or the USA one ?
Which cure is being worked on because both are doing very different work eh

Or if EMC2 is giving funding then can we see a payment receipt showing regular payments to the USA govt please ?

1)  Your comment is clearly off-topic.  The topic is 'coin bylaws' not 'poloniex chatter'.

2)  I see your personal motto is: "FUD first and ask questions later"

3)  As for the Ebola matter, the Ebola initiative was a major project that needed to involve multiple cause-coins.  Each of the cause-coins would likely have to do a preliminary examination of the effort, to determine if their respective leadership wanted involvement, and to what extent.  Then to present their intentions to their respective communities for guidance.  A delegation from each of the interested cause-coins would come together, with or without delegates from other coins, to form a leadership body for the project.  From that leadership body would originate the particulars for involvement including but not limited to: ebola research funding targets, ebola education and awareness efforts, and any other ebola related concern.

Of the 5 coins that expressed some level of involvement interest, only two boards approved the preliminary measure, and only one community approved the measure.

When the idea was first presented, I said there was no way our tiny research grant budget could do anything meaningful about the Ebola matter.  But later I realized that if all we did was to donate 1 million EMC2 to any worthy cause connected to Ebola cure research it would be well worth the effort.  However, the  1M coins would still be worth less than $1000.  So it wasn't likely to get the appreciation we would want for our effort, so the notion of finding strategic partners for the effort was considered.  What we found was as we broadened the pool of participants (other coins) it became easier to move from our intended target of scientific research for Ebola to some bigger target like Ebola awareness.

So the question was put out there, 'do you want to help fight Ebola with your coin'?  not many people answered the question and only 30% of the participants said yes.

One thread on the matter in the btc area was over heated because specific individuals could not understand how funds and resources could be pledged for an effort that didn't have a well defined target -- 'how do you raise money for Ebola research but not know who the money will go to'.   To me that was like saying, 'how do you start saving for your child's college fund, when you don't know what college s/he will go to'.    NOTE, NO ONE was asked to donate a sat to anything, the discussion was strictly to measure  grassroots sentiments on the matter.

The measure didn't move forward because we didn't receive what I felt was the necessary minimum number of cause-coin participants of 3.  The effort had to be multilateral not just bilateral.   Although the EMC2 board approved the measure to move forward and had the power to disburse EMC2 donated funds to a cause they themselves saw as worthy,  for that particular measure they sought the overwhelming support of the EMC2 community, sadly it was not forthcoming.  A lot of homework went into studying how we could do something about the Ebola matter, sadly we ended up doing NOTHING.

EMC2 did nothing about the Ebola crisis, the cause-coins did nothing about the Ebola crisis, and the cryptocurrency industry did nothing about the Ebola crisis, absolutely nothing -- what a shame.

4)  Spoetnik, EMC2 has a mandate to give funds to deserving scientific research projects, currently we are preparing to vet a project:

The Einsteinium (EMC2) foundation is currently working on creating a set of bylaws for the organization, you are invited to help us in this endeavor.

As you will see once the process is completed for EMC2, with minimal revisions for customizations specific to the coin, country, etc ..., you have a set of bylaws for your coin too.

Here is a good reference http://nonprofitally.com/start-a-nonprofit/nonprofit-bylaws: "Your nonprofit’s Bylaws are your organization's internal affairs guidebook. Your Bylaws establish procedures for holding elections, organizing meetings, quorum requirements, membership structure (if needed) and other essential operations of your nonprofit.

Your Bylaws will serve as your organizational manual and will help guide you through the orderly operation of your [foundation]."

Here is the original document: http://nonprofitally.com/resources/sample_bylaws_nonprofitally_no_notes.pdf
Here is was pasted in: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eZoES8nKwh3iN4jeEhaa_b8gw8pCEwmQ8le4hWrxEuo/edit?usp=sharing

There are many ways you can help, you could read the document and indicate what you feel should be changed or included; or you could send me your email address to get permission to edit the document.

The project will be divided into 4 parts:

1)  Style layout - after we bring pasted document to the same layout as the original document, we then add, move, and/or remove content to achieve a targeted layout.
2)  General changes - place items specific to Einsteinium in document.
3)  Committee changes - change content to receive final committee approval.
4)  Board changes - change content to receive final board approval.

thanks for your help, and hope it helps your community too

could I be pointed to the merchants that accept HBN

http://www.hobonickels.info/accepts.php

and if you are looking for more, why not vote for HoboNickels to be included on Coinpayments:

https://www.coinpayments.net/vote

The vote ends on December 5, 2014 at 12:00:00pm EST ... and HoboNickels are listed!

Why limit it to merchants? HoboNickels could be an excellent medium of barter between two people, just as the original Hobo Nickels were. Early days! I wonder what next year will bring?  Smiley

The rules for coinpayments.net are rather odd, however if there is a way to do a cross vote deal, ie: you promise to provide 3 votes to EMC2 and I will promise to provide 3 votes to HBN, would you agree?

This would be a strategic partnership to advance the mutual goals of non-associated coins, let me know if you agree with the premise so that we could then examine the details.

Coinpayments are strict on one vote per person. I must make it clear that I have voted for another coin and it was only in doing that, that I saw HoboNickels listed with no votes. My personal view is that any votes should come directly from the community as an expression of strength from each individual member. Being listed on Coinpayments would concentrate the mind on use and I do have some ideas in that direction. If the strength of feeling is there to muster the 25-35 votes that should ensure being taken on board, then that would be a good sign. If it isn't there, then I would rather wait for a more appropriate time when it is.

By the way, if anyone is interested in voting, each vote costs 0.001 BTC. Besides Bitcoin,  you can use Litecoin (0.10326 LTC) and Dogecoin (1483.411677 Doge). The cost of a vote is equivalent to 37 cents (US$0.37), 0.30 Euros, or 23 pence (£0.23). Each token amount is donated to charity.

For anyone voting, make sure that you confirm your vote by clicking on the authorisation link which will be sent to you via email, otherwise it won't be registered. Allow for any transaction fee in sending a deposit to Coinpayments.

To vote:
https://www.coinpayments.net/vote

To check the progress of the vote:
https://www.coinpayments.net/vote-thanks

The one vote pers person, is understandable per coin; but if the rule is one vote per person period, that would be foolish.  There is no one in the alt community that has allegiance to only one coin; and highly unlikely that they are only associated with only a single coin, or only invested in a single coin.   But I'm not here to push "the spirit of the rule" only to make life better for everyone through cooperation.   Sorry it could not work out this time.

We will do a strategic partnership deal in the future.

EMC2 is convening a Vetting Committee

A few days ago I received a message that said in part: "I am a scientist ... at the University of Pennsylvania ... I am working on [the problem of] sleep loss
Some of my work was mentioned http://www.neuroscientistnews.com/research-news/memory-problems-caused-sleep-deprivation-prevented ..."

I did a cursory examination of the facts, and have found that the project is real and that the dots connect.  Now I would like to have the researcher and project vetted for fitness.

To me this looks like a good project, I want it checked thoroughly so that the board can make a truly informed decision.

I would appreciate it if 3 to 5 people would volunteer to join this committee.   I will appoint a committee chair and will provide some guidance, the committee chair will determine the exact direction that the committee will travel.

Let me know if anyone from this thread is interested in being a part of the EMC2 vetting committee for specifically for this project.

[edit]  Nov 24, we have our first committee member, we now need 2 to 4 more members (including the chairman)
1231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [New wallet][CHA] CharityCoin - Supporting charities one coin at a time on: November 23, 2014, 05:32:22 PM
I'm sorry but this coin is dead. I tried to contact the coin's management with no luck many times. I closed hashaxe in the end. There's no point. I did consider reviving the coin under new management but I can't do it myself, I'd need volunteers to help.

Moments ago the EMC2 board adopted the measure to move forward with plans to be involved with the Ebola project.   The extent of our involvement is contingent on our own community's commitment to the endeavor as well as the various levels of commitment other communities are expected to pledge.

Our board has approved leadership resources, social networking resources, and 1 Million EMC2 coins for the effort; these are all minimums; its important to note that since the endeavor is far larger than all of our previous endeavors we are seeking community ratification.  The project requires strategic partners, not just for currency but for leadership and volunteers as well.

An exploratory committee made up of representatives of each of the involved cause coin will determine if they move forward to take on the project and if so the scope of the project, what the respective communities could be expected to responsibly pledge, and the best way to address the goals of the project.

Currently two coins are committed to the effort: EMC2 and WorldAidCoin.

Mathew please consider joining forces for this effort and perhaps other projects, I know you said the coin is dead but let's talk about a merge of sorts -- let's talk.

Hi,

I'm not able to take a detailed look into this now, but please do leave me an email or private message about any proposal and I'll take a look when I next can.

Regards,

Matthew

Apparently the above project was too ambitious, it failed to move beyond initial talks.

Will keep this coin in mind for other projects.

1234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: ALT coin Stores and Services List on: November 20, 2014, 11:16:45 PM
great list! I hope you keep this updated  Wink I had no idea alt coins could be used at this many places, thought only bitcoin was accepted and the others simply traded on exchange only.

very many people think as you think, and that's because as soon as an alt gets on an exchange the developers strike gold and finally paid for long months of hard work.  Instead of them taking the coin to the next level (utility) they rather go back to what they know best and just start coding a new coin with a different twist.

A cryptocurrency is not a true currency if it isn't used as a currency, if it is only, or primarily, traded on exchanges that would make it a commodity not a currency.

Agreed one is overdue.

As a side note, it appears the sellers may finally be drying up. Congrats to all who now have a bag. Wink

If this is in reference to the Report To The Community message, it is a statement written on behalf of the board which may be written by anyone committed to the EMC2 community and willing to interact closely with the board.

Ideally it should originate from a board member, but that isn't necessary however it must receive unanimous board content before release.

The general protocol is as follows: it should have a bit of the past, the present, and future, should be factually true, serve to motivating, and be relevant.  It should provide notice, congratulations, and perhaps some advice.  In rare occasions when individual board members are speaking each should be quoted directly (as board members not officers).

Let's all chip in where we can to make EMC2 what we want it to be.
