641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [STV] SativaCoin TAKEOVER by Altcoin.Center - New official thread! on: March 28, 2015, 06:27:08 AM
Hello Sativacoin Community!

I just wanted to provide a small update on some things that I am currently working on.

I have recently reached out to some devs of other coins to form partnerships in whatever way possible to bring value to all parties involved.

Also if anyone can help, I am also trying to create a platform for STV to be traded against BTC and USD so please pm me. Since my background is in finance, I have some ideas for further developing this platform Wink I have personally set aside a substantial portion of my STV for fundraising this endeavor.

Thanks,

Pastafarian

I'm working vigorously on PICISI, and always promoting.

At PICISI here are our primary sponsorship opportunities:

1)  Host CC Sponsor -  One of the best ways to get your coin into the hands of someone is to simply give it to them, however the best way to get your coin used by the general public is to get your coin into their hands and have them use it in a real life application.  When an organizer starts a campaign at PICISI s/he has a choice of what CC currency type to select, the first choice is “sponsor currency” this is the organizer indicating a willingness to have his campaign sponsored at the host CC level.  Once the sponsor is finally selected that currency will be the currency that all other CCs donated to that campaign will be converted to for the duration of that particular campaign.

This is major because everyone that visits that campaign will see your currency, but the will not only see but will likely use the funds to do business with one of the contractors at the site during the campaign.   If they don't use it during the campaign, over that month of close interaction with your currency they are very likely to want to learn more about your coin so that by the end of the campaign they will make the deliberate decision to download a wallet, open an exchange account, or simply convert out of the currency.   Regardless of what they actually choose to do your CC has certainly been branded into their mind in a very positive way.

2)  Campaign Sponsor - this is the most common type of sponsorship outside of PICISI;  the sponsor’s logo is affixed to the body of campaign text in an area set aside for campaign sponsors.  The higher your donation the higher your logo is located in the sponsorship logo area.

3)  Donor Perk Sponsor -  a sponsor provided perk escrowed by PICISI on behalf of a specific campaign where it will be used.   If the perk is not requested by any qualified donor it will be converted to host CC and donated to the campaign

4)  Advertising Perk Sponsor -  a sponsor provided perk escrowed by PICISI on behalf of a specific campaign to be used as a perk or returned to the sponsor.  If the perk is not requested by any qualified campaign donor the perk is sent back to the sponsor -- the perk is NOT donated to the campaign.

and

5)  Campaign Video Sponsor -  the first 5 second of the campaign organizer's video is allocated for the Campaign Video Sponsor, this is where the sponsor will indicate: “This video is brought to you by … [say sponsor's name, show sponsor's logo, and say sponsor's catchphrase]”

Armis, Bitcoin PR Buzz would like to say we fully endorse the PICISI project and would love to be one of your required 20 sponsors.

It's a great idea and has a lot of potential.

We will republish the article at http://www.crowdfundingpr.org/picisi/ on our website and it should be republished on other Bitcoin news sites, and syndicated through Bitcoin social media accounts as a result.

Would also like to apply to be a Promotion Contractor for press release and marketing duties as required: http://bitcoinprbuzz.com/services

We are redesigning our website this weekend so it may be down when you access it.

I will report back here when we have republished the article. We will probably edit it slightly to optimize it for keywords aimed at Bitcoin and cryptocurrency users.

Here's to the PICISI project!

Psybits it's a pleasure to welcome you as a sponsor and contractor to the PICISI community.

Please provide your 'Bitcoin PR Buzz' logo or image so that I may add it to the sponsor list.

The editor of the article published here: http://www.crowdfundingpr.org/picisi/  removed many items, here is the same article in original form:

My guess is the rescue flare (if they were available at that time).   Second guess is a buoy signalling a danger ahead (eg: the iceberg that was hit).

I'm working vigorously on PICISI, a crowdfunding site that accepts fiat and crypto, I expect to launch it in under a month.

At PICISI our mantra is 'Promotion, Promotion, Promotion' of our message, the message of our sponsors, and the message of the campaigns raising funds at our site.
In order to hit the road running we are actively building our sponsorship community.  I'm happy to announce that HBN is the newest member of our sponsorship community.

Here's a snapshot at some of our sponsorship opportunities:

As for this:
Good publicity, not very constructive for bitcoin. They are using BitPay (again). I wish stores could have a little more faith in bitcoin and hold them longer.
The fact that they use BitPay doesn't mean they're dumping it straight away Wink
I think it does.

Can I get part of my settlement in bitcoin?

Many of our merchants choose to take a percentage- or even 100%- of their BitPay settlement in bitcoin. You can choose your settlement preferences from your account dashboard. We settle bitcoin to your bitcoin address daily.
The inference is solid, the point of bitpay is "... instant conversion" clearly a primary selling point which is why it is both "instant" and "free".

The inference for the use of the word "instant" is to let the merchant know that they will get the value of the merchandise, not 'higher or lower' because of market fluctuation.

Of course it takes more than common sense to get it, but only an ounce of critical thinking.
Or maybe some reading comprehension would help?  It may be a safe assumption, but it is NOT implied.

ETA: The term "instant conversion" certainly is a primary selling point of one of their features, but that doesn't mean all of their customers care about that feature.  Most services have multiple features that each have selling points, but not all customers use all features.  Hiring a payment processor may well be cheaper than hiring a programmer for someone who wants to accept payments within the constraints of any number of existing sites/shopping carts.  This doesn't even factor in other costs and risks involved with accepting payments to a hot wallet that has to be directly linked to your site in some way.

The reason the words "instant conversion" is used, the reason it is so prominent, the reason why it's such a good selling point, and the reason why the program was created in the first place is all because the merchants as a whole don't want bitcoin, they want fiat.  The bigger and/or older the merchant is the more that will apply.

How many different ways must you hear it to understand what your mind already knows to be true.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JP_I9zNRpEo
For hard heads they say it over and over many different ways, "instant conversion", "guaranteed exchange rate", "no risk of volatility", "we take all of the risk of btc price volatility", and "you get every dollar you earned"  now why do you think they said this some many times, so many different ways?

"The point of bitpay is to get a specific value for your merchandise not higher or lower value."

648  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [03-26-2015] LazyCoins: Cryptocurrency Exchange Made Easy on: March 27, 2015, 01:14:46 PM
LazyPay plans to empower merchants and businesses with bitcoin support. Used in conjunction with LazyCoins, the company will be able to offer the most secure, efficient, and cheap option for accepting bitcoins in the world. The company feels that bitcoin will be used in daily life at some point in the future, and they hope to spark that movement through their services. - so they are basically capitalizing on people's fear that bitcoin exchange markets are not good, plagued with terrible security and bad management and want to offer people some kind of 'solid' equivalent...

BTC needs industry wide safety and security one way or another.  This: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=83794.0 is ridiculous.

do the 100% cold storage, if someone wants a withdrawal do it manually, put a limit on the amount, frequency, etc  of withdrawals until the customers has been around awhile.  Give special attention to verified customers ... get the point  ...  get to know, and go slow

BTC needs safety and security, that's all.  What is that too much to ask for?

All of this work just for it to be lost in the blink of an eye, that's madness.  5 steps forward 10x then 40 steps backwards when a major scam takes place.

Cryptoine it the most recent known victim of safety issues, and they had extremely high security.   Now they are down for a couple months once bitten twice shy.

look at the site traffic for this bitcointalk and Market Cap it went down tremendously, all because the scams are too pervasive.

I'm working vigorously on PICISI, a crowdfunding site that accepts fiat and crypto, it will launch in under a month, there will be many paid sponsorship opportunities when the site launches however prior to launch I have created 20 free sponsorship opportunities.  If you are interested in one of the remaining 12 11 spaces contact me before they are all gone.

Things get more interesting for 'purpose coins'.  A purpose coin is a CC created for a specific purpose or niche, eg: EMC2, Metal, HYPER, GMC,  RPC, Gridcoin, EDU, FLDC,  etc ...  for these coins they may want to direct their sponsorship more broadly to whole categories as well as specific campaigns.  EMC2, Gridcoin, and FLDC will likely want affiliation with science research category; HYPER and GMC will want affiliation with gaming and game development categories, Metal will want affiliation with music category, EDU will want affiliation with Education category; SLR will want affiliation with the Renewable Energy category.   So that when someone is searching via the categories specific sponsorship logos will be part of the picture.

655  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [New wallet][CHA] CharityCoin - Supporting charities one coin at a time on: March 27, 2015, 11:54:06 AM
I'm sorry but this coin is dead. I tried to contact the coin's management with no luck many times. I closed hashaxe in the end. There's no point. I did consider reviving the coin under new management but I can't do it myself, I'd need volunteers to help.

Moments ago the EMC2 board adopted the measure to move forward with plans to be involved with the Ebola project.   The extent of our involvement is contingent on our own community's commitment to the endeavor as well as the various levels of commitment other communities are expected to pledge.

Our board has approved leadership resources, social networking resources, and 1 Million EMC2 coins for the effort; these are all minimums; its important to note that since the endeavor is far larger than all of our previous endeavors we are seeking community ratification.  The project requires strategic partners, not just for currency but for leadership and volunteers as well.

An exploratory committee made up of representatives of each of the involved cause coin will determine if they move forward to take on the project and if so the scope of the project, what the respective communities could be expected to responsibly pledge, and the best way to address the goals of the project.

Currently two coins are committed to the effort: EMC2 and WorldAidCoin.

Mathew please consider joining forces for this effort and perhaps other projects, I know you said the coin is dead but let's talk about a merge of sorts -- let's talk.

Hi,

I'm not able to take a detailed look into this now, but please do leave me an email or private message about any proposal and I'll take a look when I next can.

Regards,

Matthew

Apparently the above project was too ambitious, it failed to move beyond initial talks.

Will keep this coin in mind for other projects.

Anything to bring CHA back to life would be welcome from anyone previously involved with this coin. Any sort of merge also welcome as community was always almost none existent although many people still hold coins. Please Armis keep CHA in mind, the idea behind was of a good nature. It would be good to be able to help people in need through crypto, not sure if that is possible though.

657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your Satoshi number on: March 27, 2015, 06:40:49 AM
I'm assuming a lot of us know about what the Erdős number and Bacon number systems are. For those of you that don't, here's how it goes.

The Erdős number describes the "collaborative distance" between mathematician Paul Erdős and another person, as measured by authorship of mathematical papers. To be assigned an Erdős number, someone must be a coauthor of a research paper with another person who has a finite Erdős number. Paul Erdős has an Erdős number of zero. Anybody else's Erdős number is k + 1 where k is the lowest Erdős number of any coauthor.

Paul Erdős
0
András Sárközy
1
Albert Einstein
2

Albert Einstein has an Erdős number of 2, because he collaborated with someone that collaborated with Erdős.

The same principle is applied to Bacon numbers, but instead of collaborations, you're appearing in movies.

Kevin Bacon
0
Edward Asner
1
Elvis Presley
2

Erdős numbers are usually around 6. Distinguished mathematicians are closer to 0, and a number higher than 10 is extremely rare.

I figured this idea would be fun if applied to Satoshi. Satoshi would have a Satoshi number of 0, and anyone who sent a message to and received a response from Satoshi would have a Satoshi number of 1. If you communicate with someone that has a Satoshi number of 4, yours will be no higher than 5.

Satoshi Nakamoto
0
Gavin Andresen
1
Luke Dashjr
2
ME!
3

Here's an example. Satoshi and Andresen collaborated on Sourceforge, Andresen and Luke-jr collaborated on Github, and Luke-jr and I patrol the wiki.

Upon further evaluation, I've realized that (as of rather recently) this chain is also accurate:

Satoshi Nakamoto
0
Theymos
1
ME AGAIN!
2

So how fun! I've gotten a Satoshi number of 2. Technically anyone who replies to this thread and gets a response from me will automatically have a Satoshi number of no more than 3.

As Satoshi is now gone, it's impossible to get a Satoshi number of 1 now. This may change if he decides to come back. Also, if Satoshi is actually multiple people, then they get a Satoshi number of 0, as they are Satoshi. Smiley

I did some digging:

Satoshi Nakamoto
0
Hal Finney
1
Phil Zimmerman
2
Steve Wozniak
3
Bill Gates
4
Barack Obama
5

Thanks Obama. Sad

I dare you guys to try to find your Satoshi numbers! Or maybe find someone with a very high one, like 7!

I think you are conflating 'collaborative distance' (Erdős number or Kevin Bacon number) with 'degrees of separation'.   Clearly the 6 degrees of separation thing proves that we are all connected, however to what extent are we professional connected in a meaningful way to some industry icon?

Selection of Satoshi is weak for a number of reasons; you want to pick a person that has done lots of projects (erdos did very many projects) in their field the word "prolific" must be fitting; not someone that has done a single or hand full of projects then called it a day.  Ideally, you want someone that did lots of varying kinds of projects, all over the world with all different people over decades, such that they actually shaped the industry on both macro and micro levels; this is why Bacon is fitting for his industry.

Nevertheless the connection can't be casual, or incidental it must be meaningful and documented.  Just because Satoshi paid his light bill doesn't connect him to the utility company in terms of collaborative distance, additionally consultation is not collaboration, and 'dedication to' doesn't mean 'partnership with'.

Find someone that has his hands in a whole bunch of progressively meaningful projects, the twins, and roger ver, come to mind because I've read lots of stories where their names constantly pop up.  Andres is everywhere but I got the distinct impression that he purposefully stays away from connecting with projects in a meaningful way to keep his name clear of all of the scheming wackos.

So my question is, who in the community is a partner in the most CC industry projects?  Of that group how many of the projects vary in category?  How successful are the projects?   How diverse are the partnerships?   etc ...

658  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: trucoin.com seems to have been down a week on: March 27, 2015, 05:16:39 AM
...

trucoin.com provided me perhaps my most convenient way to buy BTC (with a debit card once I got set up).  Until about a week ago, I was not in the market for buying more BTC until more recently.  I do not have an account there, I bought and had the BTC sent to my own wallets.

In return for the convenience, they DO charge about 9% over "spot" price of BTC.  But, using gasoline to go meet someone with risky localbitcoins.com has its issues too, so I was OK with trucoin.

But, they now have a notice at their site asking for patience while they resolve a problem described (roughly) as being able to get more BTC to sell.

Before I contact their Support, does anyone know what is going on there?  Or when they might come back on-line?

Sounds like their money is tied up and they rather not tie up funds in btc if it just looks like it is going down and they have no buyers.  Contact them you will likely be able to get what you want because it's not an inventory deal.

Where are there good places to advertise a Bitcoin related company ? Just curious.

What have you found to work ?

It really depends on what you are advertising.  Best to advertise where your market target is.  Like most of the advertising motor oil, gasoline, and tires, at NASCAR races.

If you are wanting to advertise CC the best place is Bitcointalk.org, secondarily my guess is Market Cap but I could be wrong, check Alexa.com to see where people go when they leave bitcointalk.org

The next major factor is cost, if you look at the cost of advertising it might eliminate your top choices. Nevertheless #11 might do what you need to have done.

As you know I'm working on PICISI, for those who are not aware PICISI will be a crowdfunding website that will accept fiat as well as cryptocurrency for campaign donations.
There will be a ton of sponsorship opportunities.  In fact, I have 12 FREE sponsorship opportunities available now for a limited time.

So that when someone is searching via the catagories specific sponsorship logos will be part of the picture.

prob tech dept on strike, tired of asking for upgrades for years and complaining about vulnerabilities, got fed up and shut the whole thing down.

For $125K they might as well buy a whole new site with all of the bells and whistles, they should also consult with other school districts to see what they are doing right and to warn those with major vulnerabilities too.

Daily cold storage backups make sense too this way if you get robbed it's only the max of 1 day's worth of info.
