1221  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon chip on: February 05, 2013, 04:04:03 PM
I am just pointing out that difficulty is going up a LOT.  People thinking no more than 10x are going to be horribly disappointed.  In the short term 30x to 50x is more likely.  In the longer term (a year or more so both Avalon and BFL have time to release their "next gen" products) 100x to 200x isn't impossible.

I agree as well, I have been doing some calculations on difficulty and I have a calendar with estimates to see if it is staying on the curve I believe we are heading on.   The next month will be crucial to give us the pace for the next 6 months.

I started a thread for people to post when they get their units from Batch #1.   Exciting times.

LoL @ the elitist "I will only sell to a ham" for these old used products that anyone can buy without a ham license.
elitist?

you need the license to use a radio in the US. I'm not going to support a non licensed person getting a radio

go buy from eBay or one of the dealers like hamradio.com they'll take your money and not think twice

already given a book away at the cost of shipping it to help someone get the ham license. guess that's elitist too right?

I am interested in the book  I want to get my license, is it still available Camolist?

They responded to tickets last night about 4 am and confirmed my order from Saturday.

Same here, I got a response after 90mins.
1226  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 03, 2013, 12:12:44 AM
for when that moment comes you won't able to meet the advertised specifications

Your website still shows 450W when it has been measured at 620W+ at the socket. Sorry, but you really fucked up the specs, or at least lied by omission. You're selling complete units here, not individual ASICs. You need to give the specs of the complete units or you're a lying piece of shit. Attacking BFL for possibly not meeting specs when you already failed to meet specs and still advertise the wrong specs is just retarded.

Fun fact: BFL's order form still works perfectly and:

  • Doesn't mess up the price
  • Doesn't mix up the shopping carts
  • Doesn't hand out others' personal information

It's just ridiculous to take a swipe at them at every opportunity when you're fucking up even worse than they are in everything but shipping dates.

I bet, changing that text field is not the "highest" priority.   It will be changed soon enough.
1227  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Avalon ASIC Batch #2 Sales Update on: February 02, 2013, 11:57:13 PM
it seems obvious to me to honor those partial sales and send out invoices* and quickly before btc changes much

only reason i can think that they would not just send an invoice is if more than 600 partial transactions + full sales took place

bitsyncom, we are not trying to rip you off, we are fans of you. let us pay you and you have evidence from the $1 transactions who your most dedicated fans are! we knew it was broken but trusted that you would be honorable, not like bfl Sad  you are supposed to be the honest asic vendor, please do not ruin it now, you were doing so well!

I don't think BitSyncom is being dishonest here.  He gave a direct answer, not one that everyone wants to hear, but a direct one. Yes there was issues but they had to make a call and for all we know, it could be a nightmare on their because of the volume of orders.

They likely identified issues in their new shopping cart and process, fixing it and it will run smoother.   We should be more happy we actually have competition in the space and someone is shipping.  Lets not lose sight on that.  Make sure you get your Walletbit account setup and load it with coins once the new sale in announced so you can pay through the checkout much easier.  You never know, you might of not had a shot this time and actually you are getting another shot.  Cup is half full at this point.
1228  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon going to cut into BFL customers pocket books? on: February 02, 2013, 11:37:26 PM
Of course they can do that, if they've paid off their initial NRE and have $500k? to spare for moving to a smaller process. The result will be a product similar in efficiency to BFL products, but most likely months after BFL has already met most of the demand.

I don't think you quite understand what is going on.  First, pulling from history we need to remember that BFL dropped the "bombshell" about ASIC in early autumn 2012.  The fact that there is any competition is amazing.  It was announced so early, it if like they were trying to scare away competition.

I saw this, because how Bitcoin works and what ASIC represents.  We are now in a cold war in regards to increasing hashing power and diminishing rewards.  If you are doing any ASIC, you are locked in or you will get out period...  The fact the Avalon has shipped (I believe this week we will see many units coming online), is very significant and you can't not dismiss the impact.   If they can ramp up their (Avalon) production and get GEN 2 ready by later summer, they may be able to continue to increase the hashing power and difficulty to a point where further ASIC development is just plain, unprofitable.

I made a chart with all the shipping dates announced and estimated total network hashing with estimated difficulty, there are two contrasting scenarios, one where BFL comes ahead and one where they don't and it is all tied into a few keys dates and how much hashing they actually sold and ship.   The next 3 months will be defining.
1229  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Hey is it over avalon batch 2 is done? on: February 02, 2013, 11:10:15 PM
I want to buy one.
Is it done or just shop is not working?

It looks like "some" will be available for another pre-order.  For some reason, a token amount was being passed or generated to the merchant processor.  The processor is refunding all those orders and processing everyone who paid their full invoice.  We do not know at this point how many went through and how many were part of the error orders.   They are likely working over this as we speak and I bet tomorrow or Monday they will have an announcement.
1230  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Avalon ASIC Batch #2 Sales Update on: February 02, 2013, 08:54:41 PM
Lets all relax and let them work through these issues.  Support at Walletbit was quick to get back to me and I have a pending ticket at Avalon.  That is what people should use so they can get an organized list of all the issues and questions.     They are likely overwhelmed as well and when dealing with Bitcoins is like cash, make a mistake and you can take real losses.

Dalkore,

where did you open a ticket at Avalon? In their store even after login there is nothing which resembles an issue tracking form/button/email...

Thanks.

Support Ticket at Avalon:  http://support.avalon-asic.com/home

Note:  I know this process could of gone better but I implore everyone to take a deep breath and collect your thoughts and state your case to Avalon.   I have done e-commerce for over 10 years (developing cart and customizing) and I know something this simple can have issues without tons of time to work out the bugs.  Put a ticket in and let them go through them and respond.  It will take time for the to work with the merchant processor to get the data they have and see if there is more data they can put together to figure out the plan for any errors.

Yes, it was a ton of patience and working through issues, but it did work in the end.

Thank you for the update bittenbob.

1234  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon Asic] Batch 2 Successful Orders on: February 02, 2013, 05:23:38 PM
It finally worked, I have confirmation from Walletbit.  I had to wait for my account to get funded.   Painful but I did learn a few things and I am glad I stuck with it.
1235  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon Asic] Batch 2 Successful Orders on: February 02, 2013, 05:13:23 PM
Update: Order is completed with Walletbit and I have my confirmation (Full Payment).
1236  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 02, 2013, 04:03:42 PM
I never got an email when I signed up for the store, but after a password reset I was able to log in.

They have my coins now.  Not sure if any of it went through, but hopefully I'll at least get a refund if they over sold the units.

How do you sign-up for the store?  I didn't see that link.

Thanks
1237  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 02, 2013, 03:43:58 PM
Avalon - One improvement for note, I would of done a better job explaining how the Walletbit worked.   They do have a guest option but because this cart setup seems to not be bug-free enough, you might have suggested that people make a Walletbit account beforehand and inform them they needed to pre-fund it for checkout.

I suggest people contact Avalon through support and start a dialogue there.  Makes it easier for them to track issues.
1238  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 02, 2013, 02:51:23 PM
Well I have screenshots of the whole process and at this I don't believe it was sold at the time of ordered but was a bug on the site.   I am contacted them to get my order honored.
1239  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 02, 2013, 02:45:03 PM
I fill out the form and it doesn't keep the cart.    What am I suppose to do now Avalon?
1240  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: February 02, 2013, 02:38:40 PM
Nothing in cart after adding them.    Please advise.

Just try again. Click the upper right cart symbol.

Nope, tried on 3 browsers.  Something is wrong,  frustrated to say the least.  I have a screenshot
