Avalon should have just done an auction format.  Give people a few days to place bids, using 2 of 3 escrow to lock in coins, then take the top 600 bids.  They could have a per-customer (shipping address?) limit if they wanted to ensure that the units were spread out.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

A lot of people are blaming Walletbit, but with the session mix ups, I'm betting that in the cases where it was .05btc, that they were fed a value of $0 because the shopping cart emptied, probably during a redirect.

Well no notice and I was on the site all day trying to order sadly now I try again now out of stock this is BS.

Dam you lucky bastards for getting in so quick. And am a little shocked to see that the 600 is sold out soon sOON. Wounder if they will ship this 600 and theirs another  load to be sent out from batch 1.

The million dollar question is still unanswered tho.

IS OR WAS BATCH 1 AND BITCOIN AND THE OTHER PEOPLE TO GET THE 2 PEOPLE IN TOTAL A MARKETING SCAM TO SAY LOOK WE GOT OURS OUT NOW GET YOUR ORDERS IN. I WONDER WHEN THE NEXT REMAINING #BATCH1 WILL BE ON THE MINING.

And I wonder what the price will be for batch 3. Might have to buy from butterfly at this rate. This is killer.

Some light reading while you fume -  see how much you would have made as a batch 2 owner in a high electricity cost country:

http://organofcorti.blogspot.com/2013/02/98-asic-choices-avalon-update.html

I'm disappointed your definition of high electricity cost country is $0.25/kwh, considering I'm getting bent over with 0.32/kwh in California.

Really? I thought we had it bad. US miners are always banging on about their US$0.09 to US$0.15 per kWh, I didn't realise it varied that much.

I'll post something for Californians when I wake up (which will be after I go to bed, not after I have yet another coffee).

I did end up finishing the original post, but beware - it's nearly 4am here and there will be typos.

http://organofcorti.blogspot.com/2013/02/98-asic-choices-avalon-update.html

Let me update the numbers, $0.36/KWh in Southern California with SCE Tier 5 (this is why I have to mine at the wife's office instead of home).

You need to login/create a wordpress account.   Which is ironic since we were only notified about that after the initial sold out status was put up.
I thought that was to maintain the site, not to create a customer account. So there was an option not to place an order as a guest?

All the money their making you would think that they would have a service that works perfect and not have problem on.  Even a site like this using word press is lets say not cutting it and I could of made a better shop in my sleep but hmm ohwell guess wait till batch 3 now and probs going to cost 1800 or more for the bloody unit. am thinking to goto basic even tho they closed and theirs news their now owned by someone else so mabye buy theirs if theirs enough vidoes their claiming that they will produce befor putting them out on the market to buy. otherwise its back to very sketchy empty box of fans butterfly

Team Avalon, can we call this launch off already?

That would have been the professional thing to do.  Put up a static web page saying "sorry, we have trouble, launch postponed until <datetime>'.  Then test with staging site to make sure all the kinks are worked out (don't forget to multiply quantity by price, for example).   Don't use wordpress for a site you are expecting to get hammered.  Ideally, you could build a client side Javascript shopping page that directly submitted to walletbit.  The whole thing could be served statically, even a VPS could serve thousands of hits/second.   I could implement such a thing in probably about a day and I don't consider myself a Javascript wizard.

walletbit fails too.  No tracking/order number, as far as I could see.  Their interface is confusing.   I created an account hoping it would give me more tracking for something went funky.  When I tried to order from Avalon, there was no way to pay with my own wallet.  When I finally decided to log out, the option to pay directly to a bitcoin address appeared.

I got into the store page seconds after it came up, eventually managed to get one walletbit token and then put another avalon in cart. Held cart until walletbit caught up with deposit transactions, completed checkout and paid.

Yeah, after almost 4 hours (!) I managed to buy 3 Avalons with trade in against 3 Icarus boards.

I paid a bit more than 181 BTCs, but so far no Email confirmation...  Undecided

I hope they can connect it somehow to my order!

Here on Koh Samui in Thailand it is now 0:43 o'clock and I am going to bed now.

Looking forward to see an Email confirmation later at breakfast...  Grin

Sweet. If only I didn't have a job so I could've dedicated the rest of the day to this FUCKED up process instead of just the entire GD morning perhaps I too would have been able to order.

Still not one single email from either walletbit or Avalon.

Epic fail.

the tradein option -- the square on the right with the nice Lancelot blue PCB picture -- just vanished

two good questions:

first - why not offer to ship these without power supply? Everyone have easy access to that item so it only adds extra wheight. I would rather have bought mine without PSU if I had the chance.

second- sorry I forgot  Cheesy
