1241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Need help building GTX1070 GPU mining Rig on: November 22, 2017, 07:44:40 AM
Hi,

I'm creating my first mining rig and I have decided to go with Zotac GTX 1070 as Zotac provide 5 years warranty. But since there are so many editions available in the market, I'm confused which one to pick.

I have the following options with me regarding GPU:

a> ZOTAC 1070 8GB DDR5
b> ZOTAC 1070 Amp Edition
c> ZOTAC 1070 Amp Extreme

I plan to mine Ethereum. Please suggest me which of these will be the most efficient comparing the hash rate with power consumption. Which one will be more profitable?
Thank you very much Smiley

No way what? There's about 50 billion guides out there, you couldn't find any of them?

what i find is flashing with Hynix memory not samsung memory , and i am not sure that's the same (i am afraid to damage my gpu).....

the thread i posted above listed a samsung and hynix, RX580 most likely has dual memory, just follow those steps especially the backup BIOS in order to have a fallback once it messed up. its just a simple detailed steps intended for newbies.
1243  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: DIY Rig...Issues installing windows on: November 22, 2017, 06:28:01 AM
So this should be the easiest part of getting my rig setup..but for some reason when I try to install windows it tells me there are no drivers. I have an SSD plugged into the mobo and PSU and windows on a USB stick...can anyone think of why it wouldnt let me select a place to install windows to? thanks

seems like a corrupted windows installer unto a USB stick, try to install windows other way around like using DVD drives or Recreate a windows bootable installer in a usb stick

Did you run the ATI patcher that fixes error 43 when you have bios modded cards?

He says, he installed the patcher after doing DDU.

What kind of GPUs?  How many?  What mobo, what PSU?  You have to give us some more details to go on here.  I've found that some systems you have to install the GPUS one at a time to get them all recognized.

My bad, I was frustrated and I should have included all the info.

I have 5 x RX570 4GB (4 are Asus and 1 is XFX) on a Asus TUF 270 A mobo with a cosair 850psu.

All Asus GPUs are BIOs modded(undervolted/overclocked). the XFX is stock BIOs until I can get this issue resolve then I will flash it also.

pulling 610 watts currently at the wall.

I did have my mining rig up and running for approximately 2 weeks with no issue until my PSU went out. I went and got the Cosair 850w.

I have today again used the DDU to uninstall the display drivers and restarted--installed the drivers back onto the cards--ran driver patch--restarted. When Rig comes back on it still have Error Code 43 in device manager.

all my windows update setting are turned off and this started happening when I have to change the original PSU.

If there is any other information that may help, I will send it as soon as I see it on here.

I have not tried to reinstall windows back on the Rig, but I will reinstall windows after work today and then reinstall the drivers to see if that works. thanks again for the help or suggestions. I have been googling and youtubing for 3 days now and feel like im in a loop

Do basic troubleshooting, try to install GPU's one at a time, you should have a working GPU that is mining before adding other GPU's, this is to isolate things like PSU/riser/drivers or board issues.

Is it working previously? seems like a driver error, try to clean uninstall then install driver.

Not sure for GTX but AMD's has issues upon updating win10, either ways, just in case you need to disable win10 update

1248  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Equation to figure mining profitability? on: November 21, 2017, 03:12:37 PM
Is there an equation to figure mining profitability for any coin, given difficulty/network hashrate/your hashrate/block reward/block time/coin price in USD$/hardware cost? don't need watts/power cost - but let me know if i'm forgetting anything else needed to calculate

There are a lot of online calculators out there for making life much easier, anyways, just to give an idea how it has been calculated, here's an older post calculating mining profitability, if the coins are using the same difficulty calculations as Bitcoin.

I've finally got all my hardware up and running, bios updated and all that jazz but I've yet to hook up my first rig to the internet. I searched through some threads, most with complaints about windows update and I'm wondering what the current opinion is regarding updates on a fresh system. Should I go ahead and let this thing update to a certain point or do I just want the whole deal disabled from the get-go? Running windows 10 pro.

Some Windows Updates may involve changes in drivers, our miners app are sensitive to it, and might cause instability when changed. might have a test rig first before deploying to farm.

1251  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question on server PSUs for mining rigs on: November 20, 2017, 06:24:51 AM
For the longest time, i've been using 1600W server PSUs on my rigs by buying them from miners or crypto stores at around $200 a piece.
This time around, i'm building a very DIY budget build and i saw a refurbished 2000W server PSU for only $55.

This $55 server PSU does not come with a breakout board and PCIE connectors but still, the price gap is huge.
My questions are:

1. Is this a good buy? Am i putting my rig at risk?
2. Where can i buy PCIE / PICO breakout board adapters for server PSUs? I don't want to use ebay and i've read specific boards only work on specific PSUs.

There are trusted seller here in the forum like Finksy, you can reach him and deal accordingly depending on your locations

My 1070 ti is running directly off the MB and my 1070s are on risers.  The Ti often times is about 502 Sols/s but sometimes drops to the mid to low 470 sol/s making it perform worse than the 1070.  Is this normal or does something look off, I didnt expect the Ti to perform worse than the 1070s?

Try to play your Core's, you may try suggested settings from the given link thread above or see the test points of Bro Quintleo

At stock settings (except for using my "standard" Afterburner fan profile):
Hashrate settles in at about 467 sol/s with VERY little variation with the wattage figure in EWBF bouncing between 168 and 180 watts most of the time for an efficiency around 2.6-2.7 range.
Core is boosting to 1848 Mhz pretty much as a straight line, 62-63C at 64-66% fan.
Memory rock solid at "3798" (effective 7596).

Crank the memory up to +700 in Afterburner no other changes:
Hashrate settles in around 525 sol/s with noticeable variation, power however is pretty solid at 180 watts for efficiency at a little over 2.9
Core is boosting to between 1810 and 1823 with a lot of bounce between those figures, temp 64C at 68% fan.
Memory is rock solid at "4498" (effective 8996) and STAYS that way in the rest of the "+700 memory" testing.

Dial in +200 core clock in Afterburner:
Hashrate settles in to about 538 sol/s with some variation, power pretty solid at 180, efficiency a bit over 3.
Core is bouncing some, mostly 1987 with lows down to 1967 and occasional bounces up to 2000. I forgot to check temps, think they bounced up to 65C at 70% fan or so.

Drop TDP to 90% in Afterburner:
Hashrate at 540 sol/s and pretty SOLID, power solid at 161 watts for efficiency at 3.38 - and yes, the average hashrate DID GO UP A HAIR vs 100% TDP.
Core is bouncing 1911 and 1924 with an occasional 1898 or 1937, temp drops to 63C at 66% fan

Drop TDP to 80% in Afterburner:
Hashrate finally drops to 529 sol/s pretty solid, power pretty solid at 146, efficiency pretty solid at 3.64
Core bouncing a lot, 1810 to 1873 range, Temp to 60C at 60% fan.

Drop TDP to 70% in Afterburner:
Hashrate to 509 sol/s but bouncing some, power pretty solid at 126 watts for efficiency of appx 3.96 with one reading above 4 (517 sol/s)
Core bouncing in the 1709 to 1759 range, temp 56C at 52% fan.

Drop TDP to 60% in Afterburner (WATCH THESE FIGURES):
Hashrate 457 sol/s pretty stable, 103 solid watts, 4.46 efficiency.
Core bouncing in the 1557 to 1607 range, temp 54C at 48% fan.

This would be a VERY NICE setting to run a quiet multi-card rig in your BEDROOM, I have to put my head less than 2 feet from the GPU fans to hear them AT ALL.
This is also THE highest efficiency figure I've seen to date out of ANY card I've owned, and I don't remember seeing a better figure reported (though I might have missed or forgotten a slightly better reported figure somewhere).

Drop TDP to 50% in Afterburner:
Core clock drops to under 1200 and the hashrate drops so far the efficiency gets WORSE. Don't go this low on this card.

1254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Windows wont boot with more than 4 GPU's (Nvidia) on: November 20, 2017, 01:41:13 AM
I am having the same issue..

This has been posted in older threads, hope still helps.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1814199.20

Well I can confirm that 5 gpus  (1060's) on powered risers work in the ab350 pro4 and Windows 10. No bios settings helped but a few of nvidia driver re-installs and trial and error got it going. To outline the process I used and re-did a few times to make sure...

(note: best to start with no drivers installed so clean that up first)
(note2: Windows 10 worked Windows 7 didn't although I didn't try this method as long on Win7)

1. cards in risers for slots 1 and 2
2. boot and install drivers
3. restart.
4. shutdown
5. cards in risers for slots 4 and 5
6. boot and make sure all 4 appear under display adapters with 2 showing warning for needing a restart
7. reboot to make windows will boot with 4 cards recognized.

The last one was tricky and took a few tries to be honest.

8. card in riser in slot 6.
9. during the boot and after the windows logo appears and the bubbles are circling below , unplug the usb from the adapter that is in slot 6 and let it finish booting to windows.
10. look in the device setting again and you should see a 5th entry in display adapters with a warning like in step 6  or a new entry under "other" for a VGA adapter.
11. plug the usb back into the adapter and in device settings "re-scan for changes" and make sure a 5th entry is still under display adapters.
12. restart and you should be good to go with 5...which is better than 4  Cool

Hopefully this all work for someone. It took me 3 iterations of complete driver uninstalls and re-installs to get it to where I could consistently

I can overclock all cards with MSI afterburner and my eth miner has been running for +24 hr at this point.

I might work on getting the 6th card going but that 3rd slot really doesn't seem to want to work.
1255  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU Random Crashing and Overclocking fails on: November 19, 2017, 07:30:59 AM
Hi guys. I have a mining rig [5x1060 2x1070] up and running for sometime. My total hashrate is around 183.2 MH/S. For Overclocking I use MSI Afterburner 4.4.0. I have this weird problem.

- Anyone GPU crashes randomly [Not quite often]

- Overclocking fails for one or two GPUs

When 1 GPU crashes, the rig restarts and run with the remaining GPUs. I had to manually restart the PC to get it working again. First I thought it might be the risers but even after replacing the risers, getting this problem yet again. The second problem is frequently killing me now. From my observation it happens at night mostly. My rig has 5 numbers of 120mm cooling fan which exhausts the heat out of my rig. The room where I keep my rig, has no proper windows, 2 exit doors. In the morning I keep the doors open for air circulation, but in the night I have to close one door which heads to my backyard [Couldn't keep this open all night]. A lot of time I sensed a huge heat surge in the room in the night. Will that might be the problem? No fresh air being pumped in cause the OC to fail? Well, these are my assumptions, please tell me your suggestions guys.

Thanks in advance.

GPU high temp may cause hardware to fail its a basic rule, if no Freshair coming in to the room then your GPU's may accumulate heat rapidly, you can check this at night and monitor them thru MSI to prove the theory.
1256  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Help | Windows 10 sometimes detects 1-5 GPU as oppose to 6 on: November 19, 2017, 12:28:27 AM
Hey everyone. I've been mining for almost 2 months.

Windows 10 Pro
Gigabyte H110-D3A
Intel Celeron G3900
4GB RAM
120GB of SSD
Nvidia GTX 1070 x 6

Currently 8 nos of rig running Nicehash

So, the first month was great, all GPU detected with no problem whatsoever. But then in the 2nd month. Few rig started to detect only 5.
Some went down to only 1 but I managed to format Windows and the system was able to detect 5.

Anyone experiencing the same inconsistency of Windows not detecting 6 gpu on their rig? Is this a common problem?

Risers are the most common problem on this scenario, identify which GPU's that are not detected and try to replace or interchange the risers. Identifying faulty GPU's are bit tricky and you can do this by checking if one of them is getting hotter or not when mining or there's no activity at all.

If this is posted in the wrong place please move it or let me know :-)

I will try to summarize my journey thus far.

Two cards, worked great!

when I received the 3rd card I installed it. It showed error code 43. moved PCI slots, double checked BIOS, reinstalled NVIDIA drivers (latest) twice, reinstalled windows. swapped risers including swapping motherboard side and GPU side along with swapping USB cables and power adaptors and power configuration in regards to how many cards were on one sata leg. All cards work individually and  two will work together, but not 3. I finally resolved the problem by plugging one of the graphics cards directly into the motherboard. worked perfect for 24 hours.

Next card came in. I moved the graphics card I put on the motherboard back on a riser and plugged in the 4th one. Now 3 of the cards are working and one is not with the one not working showing in device manager as error code 43.

after the last windows install before NVIDIA drivers I installed them one by one after each reboot and they all showed with the default Microsoft video drivers.

after all of them were showing I downloaded and used NVIDIA driver 378.92 and still one shows as error code 43.

I move the ricer card to a different PCIE port on the motherboard and it says, no drivers are installed for this device but it won't let me install them. then 5 mins later it goes back to code 43.

I went to boot into safe mode and it restarted and the screen went black after reboot... now idk what to do and im at my wits end.

anybody have any comments questions concerns or solutions to guide me to a solution?

Try to check your motherboard BIOS settings, ensure 4G enabled, and try setting PEG and PCI Gen to Gen 1

May be it is better way to go to BTX thread and ask your questions. All people successfully mine BTX for several months.

What mining software do you use for altcoins?

I currently understand ( and please correct me if i am wrong) CGMiner is for BTC, Nicehash if you have windows and easyminer...well easyminer gives me an error after i unpackage and install with Wine.

Any ubuntu miners on here?

Thanks

SGminer - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=632503.2300

Thank you so much!

Do you know if either one of them is geared to mine Electroneum?

Electroneum is a Cryptonight algo, any miner supporting this will opt to work.

I use Claymore mining XMR as its simplest for me.
