1241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin IS basically DESTROYED on: September 17, 2016, 05:56:03 PM
No one mining Bitcoin would want the price to decrease.
It would make your investment in hardware lose value.

But I do agree that we need a bit more de-centralization.
It's never good in any economic situation to have one group holding a large amount of the currency,
unless you happen to be a member of that group.
1242  Economy / Speculation / Re: What did I tell you? BTC will stay down under $600 on: September 17, 2016, 02:38:19 PM
True.
I think the current price is still a good level to invest at.
I'm still expecting a rise to mid $700 over the next six months.
But I just bought some Monero and need to pay off some bills.
I still might invest a bit more in Bitcoin since I can't really see a way it will drop much below $600.
1243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gambling and Trading Sites are awesome!! on: September 17, 2016, 02:22:42 PM
Its interesting that some of the bigger Poker and online gambling sites have started to accept Bitcoin deposits.
This is a good thing because we need more services to accept crypto coins as payment to increase user base.

Just be careful gambling, because there is NO casino game that is not in favor of the house.
Even a couple percent advantage makes the casino a lot of money over time.
Don't bet more than you can afford to lose, because you can not win in the long run. It's mathematically impossible.
1244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Urgent: Bitcoin can be hacked! on: September 17, 2016, 02:11:38 PM
I have no idea about OPs true intentions, but you certainly make some interesting posts on this forum.

It's not bad advice, though.
If you really want to make money investing long-term, you should diversify your funds a little.
Buying some precious metals is never really a bad idea. I could never see the price of gold and silver falling that much.
1245  Economy / Speculation / Re: What did I tell you? BTC will stay down under $600 on: September 17, 2016, 11:32:52 AM
I can see BTC dropping JUST below 600, but not much more.
If it goes to 598 dollars or something, I guarantee that is a good time to buy, even if you just want to wait a day or two for it to go back up to 610 and sell for a quick profit.

Unless some of the other coins get really popular I cant see the price going down too far,
but anything could happen.
1246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stop fuckin' around, fork the son-of-a-bitch already. on: September 17, 2016, 11:06:39 AM
I know the idea of a hard fork scares people. Its fucking scary.
I honestly don't know how I feel about it, myself.
I've been watching the Etherium fork to see what will happen, but I think I still need more time to make my mind up.

Confirmation time is a big deal.
You are never going to get a physical store to accept a payment that takes close to an hour to confirm.
This means we are limiting Bitcoin to an online payment system. If that is what is intended, maybe its okay.
But if we want to move the system forward, maybe its time to discuss these other options.

If bitcoin doesn't evolve, it will go the way of the dinosaur.
I'm going to start investing a little bit of money in some of these other coins like Monero in case they end up being the next big thing, I guess....
1247  Economy / Economics / Re: How to earn money with bitcoin ? on: September 17, 2016, 12:30:04 AM
Most altcoins are very volatile, so you could win big or lose big. I think you probably have to do a lot of research to make any money. You might as well be picking stocks.
I feel comfortable that one or two coins might increase in price over the long term, but most will just pump and dump, then crash.
Every week exchanges take ten or twenty coins off the list. Only a couple coins will ever have any kind of real lasting power.
1248  Economy / Speculation / Re: What Bitcoin will be worth in July 2017 ? on: September 16, 2016, 11:49:52 PM
I think somewhere between $800 and $1000.
It depends if we can get more users, more services accepting Bitcoin,
and how well any of the altcoins do.
Its probably a good thing if one or two other coins start being accepted at sites, because it strengthens cryptocurrencies as a whole.
1249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Megaupload + Bitcoins on: September 16, 2016, 11:47:29 PM
Im sure whatever service they are talking about will be in the legal grey area.
File sharing or something similar to how torrent site operators claim they are not responsible for the files that are shared.
It might cause some negative press for Bitcoin, but would bring a lot of new users, so it would be a mix of good and bad, probably.
1250  Economy / Economics / Re: How good are you at managing your money on: September 15, 2016, 10:46:29 PM
The key to managing your money is make a list of your bills/ expenses
then figure out how much money you make, and how much you have left.
Coming up with a budget and only spending what you have to, putting some away if you can is the key to saving.
1251  Economy / Economics / Re: Best way for steady income on: September 15, 2016, 10:14:16 PM
Unless you have a large amount of money to invest, and a really cheap source of power, you aren't going to make much mining these days.

The best way to make a steady income is to have a normal job, convert some of your earning to bitcoin and do some trading/ investing.
(At least living in the USA. It might be very different depending on where you live.)
1252  Other / Meta / Re: This is probably the most amusing thing I've seen on Bitcointalk this year on: September 15, 2016, 10:09:24 PM
As long as there is a way to get paid, someone will try anything.
The internet is the new "Wild West"
Cryptocoins, ransomware viruses, signature campaigns, everyone is looking for a way to make a couple extra bucks on the web.
1253  Economy / Economics / Re: Long term OIL on: September 13, 2016, 09:54:58 AM
Yeah, I feel like unless you really know what you are doing, you are better off avoiding fossil fuel commodities right now.
Although you may be able to make some money, since prices are still rising slightly.
People in the US just can't help themselves. The only reason they conserve is because of high prices.
As soon as the price is reasonable again, demand shoots through the roof.
1254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 13, 2016, 12:13:47 AM
I wish I had more money to buy Monero for long term investment.
0.016BTC seems like such a good deal for a coin that might actually become stable and the third most popular coin after BTC and Etherium.
1255  Economy / Speculation / Re: Keep or sell? on: September 13, 2016, 12:07:37 AM
Honestly unless you really need the money I would hold for now,
because I'm pretty sure we can get to $700 by the end of the year.
(Or at least $650. I would be very surprised if coins dropped much below $600 again)
1256  Other / MultiBit / Re: Fried Hard Drive / Lost Bitcoin Chain Recoverable? on: September 13, 2016, 12:06:06 AM
Yeah there are many stages of physical hard drive failure.
If you hear a clicking noise, keep it powered off, because this could indicate the heads dragging on the plates.
Keeping the disk spinning could be damaging your data beyond repair.

But if you don't hear any noise you may be able to do a slow data recovery by cloning the disk with a tool like ddrescue. It can go back over bad sectors and eventually pull the data.
If you have a lot of coins on the drive, as mentioned, it may be worth sending to a data recovery specialist. Be warned that most of these places are going to charge you $500-1000 to pull the platters in a clean room and read the data on specialized machines.
1257  Other / Off-topic / Re: Have you ever lost Bitcoin? on: September 13, 2016, 12:01:17 AM
Does buying drugs or losing money on a poker site count?
LOL
1258  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big watershed moment for BitCoin on: September 10, 2016, 01:14:51 PM
Bitcoin is more stable.
People are realizing that just because an exchange has poor security and gets hacked, it won't kill Bitcoin.
I don't think we will see a new ATH anytime soon, but I'm pretty sure a slow, steady increase in price is coming.
1259  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is why you enable 2FA. on: September 10, 2016, 01:10:39 PM
Any financial service with more than $50 in it should use 2FA.
Its much less trouble to spend a couple extra seconds to check a phone or a key for a code,
than it is to try and get your money back.
More and more malware is checking for things like bitcoin wallets.
Even a simple RAT or keylogger could get someone access to your funds if you don't have 2FA.
1260  Other / Off-topic / Re: Would You Choose $50K Value Paid as Bitcoin, Gold or New Corvette on: September 09, 2016, 07:20:22 PM
50k worth of gold is only about 39 ounces,
a little more than a kilo or two pounds
You could easily have that in a brick or two so its not like it would be hard to move physically.
If you had a good safe or something the gold would be fine.
