1261  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin rising to 600$ , pure manipulation ? on: September 09, 2016, 07:16:08 PM
Big mining farms who hold a lot of coins could definitely do some manipulation.
I'm not sure how much, but they could probably cause the price to move a few dollars in either direction, which give you a chance to make a lot of money if you have millions of dollars to play with.

$700-750 in the next few months would not surprise me.
1262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How a scammer stole 500$ from me and in the end begged me not to tell his parent on: September 09, 2016, 07:12:07 PM
This is awesome!
Great lesson on re-using screen names, and how easy it is to link things together to track someone down.

Unfortunately not all scammers will be so careless, but its nice to see at least one get caught.
Hopefully he learns his lesson and pays back his victims.
As someone who made mistakes when I was younger, I can say people definitely change. Hopefully this guy does too.
1263  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: September 09, 2016, 03:05:46 AM
Yeah I would diversify funds and invest in both!
Probably something like 75% gold 25% Bitcoin

Gold is guaranteed to hold value and go up a bit
Bitcoin has the potential to go up but is risky so I would invest less
but a combination of both seems pretty solid
1264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best Altcoin to invest in for 2016 and WHY on: September 09, 2016, 01:48:00 AM
Has to be Monero.
It's the only coin besides BTC that is actually accepted for any payments on the Darknet markets.
This means people will be buying and selling the currency.
Everything else besides ETH/ ETC are just some pump and dump schemes right now.
1265  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Doubling Bitcoin? on: September 09, 2016, 01:40:41 AM
very careful on the alt coin you trade because more alt coin you see in trading site does not anymore exist.

Yes I've been looking at some of the exchanges and its amazing how many coins get de-activated.
Poloniex On 9/5/2016, the following markets will be delisted: ABY, ADN, BITUSD, CNMT, DAO, DSH, FIBRE, FLT, GAP, GRS, HYP, IFC, LQD, MCN, MINT, MMC, MNTA, PIGGY, PTS, SILK, SWARM, WDC, XC, XCR, XPB, XUSD, YACC

That's 27 coins removed!
Alt-coin trading is actually so scary. I have two coins- Bitcoin and Monero, and just keeping track of those two is almost too much to handle.  Huh
1266  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Breaks $600, Bullish Indicators May Take it Higher on: September 08, 2016, 11:58:14 AM
I think the price could very easily go back to the $700-750 range.
Something big needs to happen to go above $800, but anything is possible.

People have mentioned Segwit and other factors as a possibility for a rise, but I think the only thing that is going to really increase the price is more users.
We need iTunes or some service to start accepting Bitcoins!
1267  Economy / Economics / Re: I have 12 BTC in my Account, How should I invest this?? on: September 08, 2016, 04:46:57 AM
Yeah it takes many years of playing Poker before I would consider it an "investment". You need to have a large bankroll that you can afford to lose, and total control over your emotions.

I lost half of my bankroll a couple weeks ago because I got drunk, started playing cash games, lost a couple hands to a player and couldn't control my rage.
I started making bad, loose calls just because I wanted to win vs this guy.

It's taken me almost two weeks to get back to where I was, slowly grinding small cash games.

Now maybe you are a WAY better poker player than I am.
But you are still going to have to grind to slowly increase your bankroll.

1268  Economy / Speculation / Re: What did I tell you? BTC will stay down under $600 on: September 08, 2016, 03:28:09 AM
Yeah I just realized
ATH = All Time HighBut I agree
Or Aqua Teen Hunger Force  Grin

I don't foresee any huge jumps right now, but there probably won't  be a big crash either.
So Bitcoin seems pretty safe. You might not double your money, but you aren't going to lose it all either

1269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 07, 2016, 09:03:10 PM
Well I had $50 of BTC sitting in a random address so I transferred it and bought some Monero.
I've already made a cool $1!!!  Grin
Here's hoping it keeps climbing.
1270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 07, 2016, 07:44:50 PM
Honestly I feel like Darknet markets will be the first adopters of any good cryptocurrency.
I didn't realize some had started accepting Monero.
I've been looking into it, hopefully I'm not too late to get some and make a little profit...
1271  Economy / Speculation / Re: What did I tell you? BTC will stay down under $600 on: September 07, 2016, 06:54:37 PM
ATH? Not sure what this means.

Segwit is an interesting idea, but you really think things like this and sidechains will increase the value of coins?
I still feel like we need more users before we see a big jump in price,
so we need more places that accept Bitcoin.
Its going to take someone like iTunes accepting Bitcoin before we go back to $1000 and actually stay there.
1272  Economy / Economics / Re: Is silver a good store of value? on: September 07, 2016, 04:47:44 PM
I don't think silver will be as useful as gold, since gold can be used in electronics and other uses,
but silver will still always have some value, and has had slight gains recently.

I'm sure its a pretty safe investment. I don't see the value going down, but you probably won't get a huge return on your investment.
If you are okay with a slight profit its definitely solid.
1273  Economy / Economics / Re: How legitimate those 600% ROI claims are? on: September 07, 2016, 04:44:28 PM
600% is definitely in the "too good to be true" category.

Any of these investments promising to
"double your money in a day just send us your bitcoins",
are a scam.
I assume they are a Ponzi scheme, at best.
1274  Economy / Speculation / Re: RSI is too high - DOWN WE GO on: September 06, 2016, 04:29:16 PM
Relative Strength Index?
Can someone explain this a bit to someone who is fairly new to trading?

I'm reading the Wikipedia page
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relative_strength_index
but some explanation on how this applies to Bitcoin at this point in time would be greatly appreciated.
You are saying that we are in "overbought" territory and the price is about to fall?
1275  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Electrical company keeps checking my box! WTF!!!! SOS plz HELP! on: September 06, 2016, 04:26:20 PM
Yeah the amount of time it takes to get a search warrant depends on how much prep work they've done.
If they are ready to go it might only take a couple hours, but if they are still gathering evidence they aren't going to mention it to the DA or a Judge until they are pretty sure they have something.

I would have loved to see the faces on the cops serving a warrant, expecting a huge grow house, and seeing a bunch of bitcoin miners when they came in.
Although if it involved flashbangs, and guns pointed at me, maybe not...
1276  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If no one spends bitcoin what might happen? on: September 06, 2016, 04:20:32 PM
I'm pretty sure that only maybe 25% of people buying coins right now are selling them.
Most people are buying and holding (speculation)
or trading when the price changes (big time traders)

That is why the price is not moving much right now, I think.
We need more users actively spending if we want the price to rise, although a steady price is much better than a volatile coin that can lose its value.
1277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Monero the most profitable gpu coin atm ? on: September 05, 2016, 06:36:04 PM
Is it worth mining with a low to mid-end GPU currently?
I have a GTX 950 and I havn't found any good estimations on how much mining power this will provide.
My power costs are pretty high here in the US, state of Michigan. (About 0.11/kwh)

Would I be totally wasting my time/ money at this point?
My CPU is pretty old, came out in 2009 and even though its overclocked to 3.2Ghz, its pretty outdated as far as everything else goes:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Phenom%20II%20X3%20720%20Black%20Edition%20-%20HDZ720WFK3DGI%20(HDZ720WFGIBOX).html
AMD Phenom II X3 720 (BE)

I will check back on this topic, or feel free to PM me if you've mined with this card or processor.
Thanks in advance for any tips/ info I can get related to this specific GPU or CPU for mining Monero.
Cheers!!!
1278  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price cycles on: September 05, 2016, 06:24:46 PM
The Monero has good scalability. It does not have a block size limit. The block size is adaptive to the current demand.

I've been looking into Monero recently, and it seems very interesting.
Does anyone accept Monero at this point?
I would invest in some, but Im afraid it will be just another alt-coin that is never used for anything besides exchange trading.
1279  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Happy mining on: September 05, 2016, 06:19:47 PM
This thread is clearly an attempt to boos post counts and earn money from signature campaigns.
So I guess here is my post to earn my Satoshis lol.

But on a serious note,
does anyone have any good blogs or mailing lists that discuss mining?
I read the posts on this forum, the Kano pool thread has really good information, and any post by Philipma1957 or Mustangdan or any of those guys is good info,
but if anyone else can recommend another good source of mining info, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!!
1280  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Bitcoin Price Predictions for 2016 Range as High as $1200? on: September 05, 2016, 01:23:18 PM
We are barely back above $600.
Price has been slow and steady recently. I do not foresee any huge jumps unless something changes.
But price could definitely be $700 by next year.

I have no idea where people get these figures from.
Its like they just run a random number generator LOL.
