any other UKers here holding their breath for ~$1230 when we finally hit £1000? that is gonna be when my head explodes.

I will be officially impressed when that happens even if we got a wee boost from GBP's hopelessness.

Once upon a time I thought of depositing on there. I very rapidly gave up when I realised I'd have to be verified by third party weirdoes I'd never heard of and with a big fat fee on top. Sod that.

The above is informative.

I think he should have been banned for the sake of his own mental health and productivity.

Over many years and lord knows how many thousands of posts at no point was any other point of view taken on board. He should've been given his own private forum to post to himself because he certainly wasn't listening to anyone else. That type of poster is the height of tediousness.
12704  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: December 28, 2016, 10:48:28 AM
NEM's great but for whatever reason after all this time it's still pretty much invisible to the majority. This thread can go for 12 hours without a response, the Reddit sub has had one thread in a month, pretty much the only TXs are node payouts, the android wallet has had 100 downloads.

With all that in mind I don't think anyone should expect anything when it comes to price in the shortish term. I'm surprised it held up for so long. Its day will certainly come, I can't think of anything else that's as well rounded, but right now it could go down plenty further for no particular reason. If that happens then I'll pick up some more but I'll be doing it with a 5 year plus mindset.

I believe there are multiple low level willies in China. Look what happens when they turn their volume bots off. Not a great deal. It's more about maintaining the illusion of them being happening places rather than blatant naked pumping.
12706  Economy / Economics / Re: Why the big whales are not cashing out? on: December 24, 2016, 03:38:42 AM
At $12B market cap a government, investment fund, or bank itself could purchase the majority of Bitcoin in circulation. This technically would not be the end of bitcoin, but the scenario you propose is possible.

How many coins are on all the exchanges for sale right now? At a guess it's tens of thousands. That leaves 15.9 and a bit million coins to prise out of the hands of everyone else. There'd be enough bloody minded people to charge 1 trillion dollars per coin.
12707  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the current rally really that crazy? on: December 24, 2016, 03:16:16 AM
Well, if there is a crapping out after the present run I do hope it doesn't grind on as long as the last one. It's pleasing to see some proper action after what seems like forever. I'm not quite ready to go back to that yet but perhaps I never will be.

I'm not sure where everything stands in terms of near future potential. It's been a rapid rise but it still feels quite a way away from genuine insanity. It might not have even started warming up yet or perhaps it won't happen at all.

In a way I was more content with the nature of the preceding rise. Impressive but steady. True bubbliness in 2013 was amazing to observe but then there was that pesky aftermath.

12708  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's freaking 2017 - Do you own 1 BTC? on: December 24, 2016, 03:08:11 AM
I do indeed.

I'm a little shocked at the numbers of people with coinage going out the door as fast as it comes in. I can totally understand for debts and living expenses, but not for frivolities and 'investments'.

That Alpaca thong you bought sometime last year now looks a little expensive. By the next halving it's possible you'd never want to wear it ever again from sheer despair.
12709  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Rally Could Be Stalled by Philippine Regulation on: December 24, 2016, 03:05:12 AM
Sounds rather sensible to me. Where's the doom and gloom in making it less dodgy for the average customer?
12710  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 18, 2016, 10:49:46 PM
Yet, all of the anti-semitic hate speech is just fine.
Ha! Oh yes, exactly this =D

Spewing hatred regarding Yiddishers is one of the vibrant pillars of this forum. Weirdly enough, if I remember rightly quite a few of my deletions relate to calling people out for this. Dunno if the initial anti-semites got their botty's smacked.
12711  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: December 16, 2016, 11:03:12 PM
Mijin came out, and while it was a tech advancement and a great thing, it failed to raise much interest or movement in the market.

I was under the impression that Mijjin is an offshoot with nothing to do with NEM other than giving birth to it. It's not going to have any market effects because as of now it doesn't interact with the public chain. It's cool all the same.

As for the rest, didn't you notice what happened this year? Tons of coins reached absurd highs. You don't need much money to do it. Bitcoin can raise its market cap by a billion or two with 10-20 million dollars of real expenditure.

Market cap is a shite measure even if it's important to so many. XRP had a market cap of well over a billion for ages. That's all down to the declared number of coins versus what's actually for sale.
12712  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: December 16, 2016, 06:34:57 PM
Yes. Far better to steer well clear. The track record isn't exactly inspiring. If it's any good then you'll be able to make money when it's out in the wild.

Isn't it time ico's were taken outside and shot? And who or what is guaranteeing this peg to national wages? I'm not sure there've been any pegs that survived any period of time. I'll be sitting out this marvellous opportunity.
12714  Other / Off-topic / Re: Any way to decrypt the files encrypted by cerber ransomeware on: December 12, 2016, 02:09:28 AM
Does the particular ransomware have a name? No doubt someone here will know something with more details. There's probably someone here who sent it to your friend in the first place.

FTFY

Anyone with operating sensory organs knows that the gold market is rigged and largely fictional. As long as you can continue to draw money out of it then everyone will continue collectively playing along just like all the other financial systems.
12716  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: December 11, 2016, 03:10:28 PM
We really need a lot more people to attend and promote NEM at conferences like these.  The platform almost just sells itself. If we can improve our marketing, I think we can get a much larger market share of actual blockchain projects for real businesses.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who are intrigued with the idea of participating in something like this, myself included, what I'm wondering about though is the depth of knowledge required.

Through passive absorption I've picked up plenty of knowledge about crypto as a scene, but technically I'm pretty much bleedin' clueless. What types of things are asked of people who attend events like this? I assume they're stocked with people who know their coding inside out and would ask accordingly.

You betcha.
12718  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 05, 2016, 11:32:12 AM
Or maybe, y'know, not everyone out there is a foaming anti semite? There are people out there with different points of view.

"State controlled aggression" stops your offspring from dying horribly. I'll quite happily let the statist penis slide all the way inside me if stops my little darlings from sicking up their own pelvises because some freeman on the land fuckhead doesn't get his spawn dealt with.

I've only ignored 2 trolls in all my time here, and that was because they were truly obnoxious.

The first was MatTheTwat and the second was the original NotLambchop, but only after playing with her for months with much amusement.

Eventually NLC got boring and tiresome so I put her on ignore. Matt was never amusing, just obnoxious and obtuse.

Mr Thecat mellowed in his old age. I've never really understood why being bearish also entails torrents of abuse. Surely you can be a cheerful and polite bear too. There aren't too many of those around.
