1281  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a solution to alts leeching off bitcoin's strong valuation? on: June 13, 2022, 02:45:40 PM
They're probably doing that because they're not a good project and need something to actually back them and make them seem more worthwhile.

Using luna as an example, it might make some sense to back it with crypto independent of it, using bitcoin and eth for that never really made any sense though to me - either they had no trust in their protocol or were greedy (and it looks like it turned out to be both).

In the end they'll all just die out if they're not useful or helpful.
1282  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [List] Crypto exchanges with financial problems on: June 12, 2022, 10:42:16 PM
I do wonder if Coinbase's cofounders have started to give up on it or whether they're buying stocks for this price.

Realistically (if they see value in it) it'd make sense for them to try to buy back as much as they can if/once it stabilises and starts to rise - or perhaps like people do with bitcoin and just buying it as it drops, they'd still do well from that.
1283  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do You Think Its One Too Many on: June 12, 2022, 01:29:59 PM
They might not lose reputation with the people who've rated them well before the acusationn but if the accusation is spread far enough and the defense is bad then they should lose reputation with new and potential players (but it might depend how many bad reputations they get that are fully proven, one or two might not be enough to get a conclusive result (and I don't think they've been enough in the past to fully desuade everyone).
1284  Economy / Economics / Re: How can I survive in a place where BTC is restricted? on: June 12, 2022, 12:59:51 PM
It's quite discrete though imo for people in those countries.

If it does well they could probably either just move country to sell their crypto or find someone who could trade it for them - in countries where drugs have been made illegal, they don't seem too hard to come by (enough people seem to have them/take them).

Use Tor to hide your IP address for searching any Bitcoin stuffs

I wonder how easy tor is to access and use in China without detection.. I know there's a bridge that was made so people from China could connect to tor but I'm not sure how noticeable it is (and presumably you'd have to get tor from an unofficial source).
1285  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there any other alternative? on: June 12, 2022, 12:32:30 PM
He can still view his work through draft, but draft is limited for 100 items and 7 days only.

Quote
Up to 100 drafts are kept. Drafts are deleted after 7 days.

It's not really reliable for saving your work though. I expect you'll lose some draft if you frequently click "Preview" button.

I'm not sure about on mobile but you can hit control+s after pressing preview on PC browsers and they'll save everything for you. Maybe a screenshot and a copy and paste is best for mobile (you can then import that into notes).

I think the limit for posting in archival was hero member accounts plus, not sure if it's still the same (it's likely mods moved anything for people under that rank).
1286  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Trading: My First Proper Attempt in Learning on: June 11, 2022, 12:14:31 AM
I'd be a bit careful in your position, remember that reading books on intelligence (emotional especially) might not be the best way to actually acquire it.

Take care in deciding to run before you're able to walk. If you're getting into trading you're better off testing the waters before throwing yourself in deep water without being fully prepared.

Calling yourself a "certified crypto trader" is also worrying and I'd take everything she tells you with a pinch of salt (generally, I'd advise you don't trust things until they've been proven to you - if she's got a strategy or a few she's trying to teach it doesn't hurt to paper trade it for a while or trade with lower until you've proven your chances for success).
1287  Economy / Economics / Re: Richest people have a lot expenses to pay here is the solution on: June 11, 2022, 12:00:06 AM
No one with money would actually go to this much effort though.

If you've built a wealth from your profile and by selling parts of it to people, why wouldn't you just keep doing that? Don't change a model that's already successfu l for them, money attracts more money there's no chance it scares it off... If you've got enough money to be able to do something like this, you've got enough money not to care about inflation, a recession...
1288  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM HUOBI Luna Airdrop on: June 10, 2022, 05:58:14 PM
My question is who took the snapshot, was it the Luna team or the Exchanges?

It was done by the terra network as I received a notification from a few exchanges about it in advance of being credited funds.
1289  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC goes below 30k after US inflation rate reports on: June 10, 2022, 04:59:02 PM
This probably didn't have much of an effect on bitcoin's price and is just two things happening at once.

I think US monetary policy has been speculated to be maintaining an inflation of about 8% so this could be that just catching up. Surely inflation dollars being reported as high would be a good thing for crypto too as there's extra cash moving through the economy.
1290  Economy / Economics / Re: Jamaica becomes first country to make a CBDC Legal tender on: June 10, 2022, 02:39:03 PM
I was about to find some information about it. This is not related to blockchain.

The CBDC is called Jam-Dex (not related to decentralized exchange btw), and it uses a technology called eCurrency Mint.

Quote
She explained that NCB is focused on getting more individual and small merchant clients on board during the quarter, The BOJ deputy governor disclosed that the central bank is now testing the system with another DTI that acquired the hardware from Republic of Ireland-based technology provider, eCurrency Mint Incorporated, which was selected to support CBDC project implementation.
https://www.jamaicaobserver.com/business/jam-dex-no-way/

I found eCurrency web site, https://www.ecurrency.net/solution

it says that its technology is "unmatched by blockchain". It is distributed, not decentralized. They focus in central banks and commercial banks solution.

The UK bought a lot of banks during the financial crisis, the goverment clearly missed a trick not generating a currency and making it seem like it was different from the pound... I'm surprised we don't have more of these CBDC type systems already if that's all they're doing (although maybe that's just treasury/fed bonds)...

They're probably a good thing for rivalling mastercard and visa but that's only if they're well marketed and companies support them well enough (I'm not even sure companies large enough pay fees for receiving debit/credit card payments).
1291  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: the future of faucets? I used to be a website collector. on: June 10, 2022, 11:53:11 AM
I think a lot of people (newbie to experienced) still seem to like claiming faucets.

I go to faucet sites every few months and see if there's anything new around just to see how that side of the ecosystem is going/nostalgia (and of course to claim a few sats).

It's normally nice to see sites that are still going and have been for a long time as well as ones where the payout when I joined would've been less than a cent but that payout now would be a few $.

(I'd avoid investing in things like cloud mining though if you can help it - you might be better off making a wallet address and then forgetting that wallet exists for a while but setting up automated payments to see if you manage to get much after a while - eg a few years).
1292  Economy / Economics / Re: Jamaica becomes first country to make a CBDC Legal tender on: June 10, 2022, 11:44:10 AM
Do we know anything about the network itself though? I've been trying to search up on it and can't find anything to do with how it actually functions or any stats on it.

How do we know this isn't just a type of governmental bank that facilitates transactions between people as apposed to the private financial sector being an intermediary and is there much of a difference between a CBDC and a government owned bank (assuming the government has a decent amount of countrols over their CBDC in terms of things like "preventing money laundering").
1293  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Generating wallet on custodial exchanges is what you should avoid on: June 10, 2022, 11:32:22 AM
OmegaStarScream said it wasn't open source in your last thread (first response).

There's a chance okx have called it decentralised because I'm assuming you can dowlaod a wallet file or something's saved on a plugin (blockchain.info used to have downloadable wallet files which made it a bit more reputable - those wallet files aren't ever directly compatible with software like electrum or bitcoin core though - you're probably better off using one of them).
1294  Other / Meta / Re: Removing Current Topic Notifications on: June 10, 2022, 11:19:30 AM

I know I can check all the threads at once by using the checkbox next to "Started by." However, I have more than 80+ pages of threads to clear, and repeating the same process is time-consuming. Is there a bot or SMF function that I'm overlooking?

How many threads are on a page for you to not just be able to hit clear all a few times (if you're clearing everything, you probably don't even need to change pages).

I don't think you've explained what you'd want a script to do better, remove everything (it's probably quite easy to make one if so)?
1295  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Lightning Network Reaches Its All-Time High. on: June 10, 2022, 11:10:57 AM
Bitcoin transaction fee is not high, though if the mempool is congested, the fee will increase, but since I have known mempool and how bitcoin transaction works, the days to when the mempool is not congested to when the mempool is congested is like 95 : 05. So bitcoin on-chain fee is not high, only exchanges and some custodial wallet with high fee are making people to have such high fee misconception. But you are not wrong about lightning network, the fee is cheaper and the transaction is faster.

I was thinking this about fees but maybe people are loading channels/testing with the lightning network now that fees are low. It's probably a better assumption to make but the lightning network might be similar to segwit in thst it takes a while to adopt (if it does see network wide adoption - segwit had the same uncertainty).

(afaik lower fees and emptier blocks make the lightning network more secure).
1296  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to decrypt electrum wallet encrypted file backup? on: June 10, 2022, 11:05:32 AM
I am using electrum, I created a 2fa wallet with it. I wanted to be able to access my two master private keys while the third is with TrustedCoin, I imported the seed phrase on another electrum wallet, I disabled TrustedCoin and made it 2-of-2 multisig. I removed the password and backup the wallet file. I used text editor to easily see my two master private key.

Does the wallet actually store 2 master private keys? I thought the mnemonic was a representation of 2 but one of the keys wasn't stored in the wallet, one was and one was with trustedcoin? I'm just curious if this is going to be usable for people who lose their 2fa and only have their wallet file if 2 of the keys are stored there.
1297  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM HUOBI Luna Airdrop on: June 09, 2022, 08:41:48 PM
Did you actually make a trade within those 22 minutes then?

I'd've expected them to suspend trading (their announcement said they did with margin accounts), if they didn't you might want to email their support and see if there's anything they'd be able to offer to do with it but it might be unlikely as they'll have already distributed your airdropped tokens to the buyer.
1298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Rehypothecation Causing Instability in Bitcoin Prices? on: June 09, 2022, 05:44:38 PM
I think this is something that's annoyed a lot of investors about futures platforms in the past (it's potentially still ongoing too).

There is a possibility a lot of traded crypto aren't backed by anything, this is less likely with more trusted exchanges (like coinbase) but it could still be a practice to an extent. Exchanges trading using statistics based on what their users are doing might cause a greater price change - and also the chance that exchanges could realistically make money by increasing the spread between currency buying and selling (which is what a lot of exchanges already do).
1299  Economy / Economics / Re: Italy Is Held Back by 2.6 Million People Who Have Given Up on Work on: June 09, 2022, 12:21:48 PM
A lot of these issues could probably be fixed by making jobs actually seem more attractive to workers they want them to be filled by.

Do you mean to say these idle labor force could be enticed to work and be productive by presenting available jobs that they are really interested of having?

I'm a little envious at this kind of people. They have the luxury to be picky when it comes to job. They could choose not to work if they don't like the job. Where I am, even college graduates end up working as store cashiers for lack of better opportunities.

Yep this is exactly my point. If companies want workers, they need to be more proactive in hiring and participating in areas of society where they'll find those workers..

I know of places like hobby shops (eg book stores) and pubs that have often asked their more regular customers if they'd like an interview/job with them. I think there are equally a lot of people that work in shops in the UK who work there because they actually enjoy what they do (eg seeing new people every day and having interactions with them) - I use cashiers as an example because they're probably one of the lowest paid jobs everywhere.

While in Northern European countries the state tries to enable the individual to do better. Free university, high mobility of the population, strong property rights, strong minimum wages, better economic incentives, the state protects their industries instead of working against them. Northern Europe is for sure no paradise, but much better in this regard.

And the result of that is that the people in the south stop trying or move to other places like Germany and thrive there.

I heard of a stereotype from Eastern Europeans that Germany is where you go if you want a lot of money but want to continuously work and the UK/nordics are where you go if you want a good amount of money but a stronger work life balance. I wonder if this would actually be undone by improving the living and working conditions in Eastern and Southern Europe.

I think the problem is worsened when a country provides for a huge social grant to assist unemployed people. I have talked to some people in the UK and they said the financial support in the UK for unemployed people are too much. A lot of people stopped looking for work, because the government support is enough to sustain them.  Roll Eyes

The cap was brought in by the current government after a few controversies after there wasn't a cap.

I think the cap pushes everything else higher and you might want to decide whether you think that's worthwhile or not... House prices, rent and groceries are kept high as a result and there might be a big impact in stopping some of these from happening. £13-20k is enough to live off, it's not enough to save off though imo and you won't claim anywhere near that if you already have a good amount of savings too so most of that money is being put straight back into the economy in some way.

Do you know what these are you're trying to convert and why you actually need them? Where did the "sec" term come from, what wallet are you using?
