881  Economy / Economics / Re: MONEY IS THE MOTIVATING FACTOR, what do you think? on: September 02, 2022, 05:27:13 PM
It's a bit foolish.

In the past, money has related to how skilled you are and who you know. Now money tends to follow other money.

Investing in value increases your equity faster than it increases your money (and there's the chance it won't increase your money by much compared to investing in where other money is likely to follow - where it's already been).

I don't know what you mean but following money that well. If something's overbought, it has a higher chance of becoming more overbought or overbought again than it does of being oversold.
882  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Skins for hardware wallets on: September 02, 2022, 05:17:48 PM
For trezor I think the case is just a basic plastic one you can pull apart and replace yourself (for the skepticism people have here, it's probably safer to get someone on an online marketplace who can 3d print to print a 3d model of the replacement shell and attach that on instead).

The colour altering feature looks like it could be harder to achieve though (unless you can get tinted screen protectors) so that might be a mode of personalisation people want.

These offerings might be more useful and sought for by companies though if they need different coloured keysigners to make them more identifiable for staff.
883  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin could drop to $10,000 by 2023 as the Fed normalizes interest rate policy on: September 02, 2022, 05:10:39 PM
$10k would be a fairly round number for us to stop at though so we probably wouldn't be able to stop there. Which might mean we could go below that or hold a bit above it - and it'll be particularly interesting if we go below imo (especially if it stays there for a few days).

There's probably enough people trying to guess the bottom though and only one will be right, we're nowehere near the $14k low that was prophesised to be the bottom of the last drop too.
884  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: National Police of Ukraine takes down cyber crime group on: September 01, 2022, 06:02:40 PM
while there is a war going on in their country, these cyber group are also busy victimizing.
~Snipped~
Just arm these crime group, recruit these guys to fight Russians in Donetsk.
Yeah, instead of putting them on jail, bring them in the front line and fight for their motherland like the rest of the Ukrainians.
I strongly believe that's the equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot.

Potentially shooting everyone near you in the foot too Smiley.

Yeah it's why most strong militaries rely on voluntary recruitment only (someone conscripted might end up sabotaging you or just reducing the moral of you're squad) - you can see all the tanks/surface to air missile launchers being seized from Russians to work out what happens when you send people to war who don't want to be there.

But one thing is really serious here! How on earth these miscreants are getting the phine number of people who had lost cryptocurrency at some point of time. Probably from a hacked exchange? It's important to identify the source of information.

It is! And perhaps there's more to this. Maybe the ones conducting the scam bought information from scammers or maybe they were able to get it from crypto exchanges selling data and social engineer the people they called.

885  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gambling Companies: First Massive Bitcoin Adopters on: September 01, 2022, 05:51:57 PM
2. Many people take gambling companies as something dirty. People might as well take bitcoin as something dirty too. And bitcoin's decentralized form as a good way to evade authorities and government regulations.

The huge adoption and (what I perceive to be huge) profits of gambling companies in the cryptospace did look to me to be a concerning reflection on bitcoin.

It might say lots of people are interested in gambling from the cryptospace and gambling companies have good ways of managing and sustaining their bankrolls, however it can look to explicitly and initially paint the picture a lot of crypto investors have addictive tendencies towards gambling in a way that makes the industry look problematic (ie by betting until they lose everything).
886  Economy / Economics / Re: Next year's 2023 food crisis will be different from this year's on: September 01, 2022, 01:27:28 AM
There have been reports for a long time that a lot of the UK's sewage ends up being dumped in rivers - I'm not sure why it doesn't get used to produce fertiliser (as long as it's used controllable as a biofuel too and the useful products are extracted - not the whole thing as that could cause a lot of contamination).

I think there's also fears the drought that's hit most places now is going to destroy crop yields too. Russia might be able to offer attractive rates to Asia again though for food but I think the countries pushing sanctions on Russia should already have gone further as it's given them far too much time to strategise what they're going to do.

A lot of farms could immediately resolve some issues by having sheep, goats and pigs turn their soil too while they graze and as crops grow to give them higher yields and more fertiliser (while lowering the risk of external pathogens entering the fields from importing manure).
887  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need help with signature on: August 31, 2022, 07:08:25 PM
I don't think newbies can wear a signature so you'll have to wait until you get to Jr member or higher (higher ranks unlock styling, Jr member just get text i think).

I think there are some bbcode designers available online but a lot look quite hard to use (from when I last looked for one).

888  Other / Archival / Re: A bit of history: What the first bitcoin exchange looked like on: August 31, 2022, 06:30:35 PM
I think I saw a thread on this a few days ago but it's interesting it had its own "token" attached to it. I assume that means withdrawals and deposits could be done in that currency or another exchange was required (either with the exchange or peer to peer) to get something that could be moved off it.

I wonder if this is what lead to paypal's disliking of cryptocurrency and bitcoin too, if theft started to spike as PayPal was/is reversible in a way bitcoin isn't.
889  Economy / Economics / Re: BITCOIN IS NOT A STORE OF VALUE on: August 31, 2022, 02:09:34 AM
Is someone trying to trick you into thinking gold is a store of value?

Someone mined that gold and the miner of it or its designer ate food.

Gold is replaceable, most things are replaceable. You can't say something an store value when it's value has dropped in real terms since 2012 - we're around 2012 prices minus inflation. Gold can be replaced with copper and silver fairly easily when it needs to be. Platinum also makes for a good alternative to gold (along with many other metals).

Don't be tricked into buying something that's over inflated and artificially physically scarce. Find something like a business to actually invest in instead if you want to protect your wealth - most assets are risky buys though so remember to diversify where reasonable.
890  Economy / Economics / Re: As Crypto Slumps, Goldman Sachs Aims for a Wall Street Built on Blockchain on: August 31, 2022, 01:57:26 AM
Do their articles normally look like that (listing the day's loss %). It looks quite sassy on its own - as if they're only exploring blockchain because they're making a loss on their stakeholders and are wondering if it's because they've spent time trying to shut down bitcoin rather than adopt it (like PayPal did).

It does sound weird so many companies are attempting to build identical systems though.

The blockchain based systems goldman Sachs want to build and the one JPMorgan has sounds like Facebook's idea to make one for handling payments and assets too. If they're not careful, they'll end up with multiple different ways of doing things and either confusing or isolating the consumer (ie it takes less than an hour to process a transaction on each chain, but takes days to swap between chains)...

891  Other / Meta / Re: What type of posts attract merit? on: August 31, 2022, 01:44:02 AM
If you're trying to get merit by writing posts a specific way, you're probably going to end up spamming.

You're best trying to proactively participate in discussion here and remain active for a short while so people start to recognise you and your posts more. If you can productively reply to a thread, just do that and the merits will follow.

You can spend time researching and offering your own incites on things too but that's not entirely necessary (also make sure you're familiar with rules like not plagiarising).
892  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: UK Parliament Group Seeks Views from Crypto Industry Players on: August 31, 2022, 01:40:54 AM
Appgs are informal groups in Parliament that are more collections of people willing to discuss that specific topic imo. I think there are a lot of these groups and so they're limited on the influence they can exert until they get big enough to be recognised as something different (though I'm not sure what they'd be able to grow into without being a role someone who knows nothing about the subject will be placed on or a party - which seems unnecessary).

It might be a way for industry to get access to legislators (as that looks to be a criticism of appgs) and the appg might be able to represent crypto well in parliamentary debates too.
893  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Brain-bug: Open Asset Protocol on: August 30, 2022, 05:44:31 PM
Coinbase transactions don't need to be signed by anyone - these contain the rewards miners receive from generating a new block (plus fees that have been spent on transactions).

For question one, to pay someone you have to provide a hash of their public key as an output.
To spend that output you have to provide the hash that you were output to and then your public key (and miners have to verify your public key can become the hash/address - and then validate the signature).

The hash is a redundant security measure (redundant means extra in this case, it doesn't mean useless). It enables for bitcoin to remain fairly secure if the main signature algorithm fails.
894  Economy / Lending / Re: Is a domain considered as collateral? on: August 30, 2022, 03:09:28 PM
so for example I own "https://961bet.net" its a business running and I got over 1k users, If i transfer ownership domain or w/e would be possible to get a loan for it for a month or its gonna be hard?

Who is the domain actually hosted with (which registrar/company)?

Would you expect to be collateralising the entire business when the request is fulfilled by someone as that's likely what they'll be expecting.
895  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dormant Bitcoin Addresses on the move on: August 30, 2022, 02:25:05 PM
You don't need to market sell coins for the price to drop. Just posting a limit Sell order at a price you think is reasonable is enough for the price to fall as other people try to sell their coins and compete against your advertised ask.

Another piece of data to take into account.

Yeah I'd say it looks like it'd be productive if you used it as an indicator but don't trade the actual signal (they don't look like they come around that often either).
896  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CME launches Bitcoin Euro Denominated futures on: August 30, 2022, 02:21:14 PM
There are already a lot of bitcoin futures products available in Europe, but if that exchange is used a lot over here too then it means there'll probably be a lot more people tyring to trade/experiment with it - I guess in points where less it happening it means it might become harder for groups to dump the price as has happened in the past, but it might also not do anything or do the opposite...
897  Economy / Economics / Re: Argentina's Mendoza province now accepting crypto for taxes and fees on: August 30, 2022, 02:13:48 PM
Did you expect much more from the government of Argentina? When I saw the thread title I didn't know if it was a joke or what. Now I understand it. They modernize but with what they can control. Just like central banks modernize but taking out their CBDCs. They are not going to shoot themselves in the foot.

It looks like they are shooting themselves in the foot unless they're going to unveil out a new CBDC pretty quickly. They're using someone else's currency to collect taxes (afaik they have their own) is this a way for their government to attempt to invest off shore? I wonder how well secured a system like this is too from inside attacks (or if there's limits on how much tax can be paid with stablecoins).

This looks like more of an ego boost for tether than anything else, they're very dependent on that stablecoin maintaining its peg now then or at least being fully reserved/collateralised.
898  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Forums and websites for publishing your own articles on cryptocurrencies on: August 30, 2022, 02:05:14 PM
Can I also post my articles on the Bitcointalk forum?

Yes, just make sure you provide a link to the original article as otherwise it might be considered plagiarism and get you banned.

There are a lot of forums in the cryptospace and there are probably too many for people to come up with good suggestions for where you'll get the list traction. I can think reddit and bitcointalk might be useful places to start though if you don't want to search around too much.

I'd recommend posting a decent amount of the article on the forum too as many are averse to clicking links but might do once they see a site with good reputation/reporting - I don't know how many actually go this way though it might be easier to get views by buying ads on faucets and similar sites once you can get ad revenue to yours (I think it takes a long time for these sorts of sites to be paid back in views and user activity).
899  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The "Sango" Project Will Be Described As The National Digital Currency of The on: August 30, 2022, 01:33:55 PM
Doesn't the 30-50% of people being bale to use crypto in the near future come from the Internet not being available to the other 50% or is there another reason?

I wouldn't call this the CBDC experiment I'd want. It'd have been preferable to have been done by a country a lot bigger with a lot more protections against things that could go wrong (I'd expect the central African Republic and El Salvador to go similar ways in rushing out approaches that are less likely to be successful than ones that are fully planned - but maybe that's what's needed at this time for other countries to consider catching up).
900  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 1k to 10k Challenge Update, I MADE IT! on: August 30, 2022, 01:25:07 PM
I noticed your thread on this when you posted it around the half way mark and was curious for how far you'd get (especially as the market was changing while you were doing it)..

(and as mentioned by scripture, it's better to make one thread documenting the whole thing than just having these announcements as some of yours have been deleted).

10k is not a big amount for me

This sounds like you're talking yourself up to doing 10k to 100k next time Wink.
