MEC transfer finally confirmed, you should be able to withdraw now.
1302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TERRACOIN ATTACK OVER 1.2TH ATTACK CONFIRMD on: July 25, 2013, 07:53:00 PM
I see they rejected the checkpoint someone did a pull request on earlier. The "current chain" the exchanges are relying on are, I assume, the one full of the blocks from the attacker...

So the devs are active but either not aware of the problem or actively working against a fix?  Not making me feel any better...
1303  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MultiCoin][Stratum+GW] multipool.in - Always mine the most profitable coin on: July 25, 2013, 07:44:05 PM
My point is, independently of how many time has been spent mining the current coin, switching to a coin with swift difficulty adjustments might not make sense if that coin is only 1 % more profitable than the current one

On the other hand, if we wait too long to switch then my inbox would be flooded with emails "DGC is 5% more proftiable why aren't we mining it???!"

Besides switching being kinda the point of the pool, the pool is configured not to switch unless the profitability of the other currency exceeds the profitability of the coin being mined by 1%.  The pool will also stay on most coins for at least 10 minutes to prevent hopping too fast.  (exceptions are MNC, LKY and ARG.)
For example, if it just switched to coin A (profitability 2.0) and suddenly coin B gets profitability 10.0, will it still wait the full 10 minutes before switching?
Yes.  I may need to tweak this now that there are other coin switching services gaining popularity.
If we lose 0.5% efficiency over 10 minutes by switching coins, that's 3 wasted seconds. For example, we're currently mining coin A (profitability 2.0) and coin B reached profitability 2.02. Thus, coin B is 1 % more profitable than coin A and we'd have to mine coin B for at least 3 / 0.01 = 300 seconds to make up for the 3 seconds lost due to switching coins.

Therefore, I think that rather than observing how much time has been spent mining the current coin, the pool should estimate how much time it will spend mining the one it's switching to (which might be hard).

My point is, independently of how many time has been spent mining the current coin, switching to a coin with swift difficulty adjustments might not make sense if that coin is only 1 % more profitable than the current one, while switching to LTC/NVC/FTC almost always makes sense while it's the most profitable one.

Speaking of switching: Do you think it would be possible to switch coins without forcing a stratum disconnect? My (limited) knowledge about how the stratum protocol works suggests that all it takes to switch coins is announcing a new block and a new difficulty.

All good points.  I agree especially with your second point and I am continually improving the switching algorithm.

As far as switching without a stratum disconnect, I'm pretty sure it'd be possible, but you'd have to rewrite the stratum server to connect to all the different coin daemons, reinitialize work, etc.  I've done some thinking around it and I believe it'd be doable, but it's a fairly large project and would require someone with better Python skills than I.

I will be moving the EU pools to a different server tonight to address some of the reliability issues.  For now I am increasing the share difficulty to 64 to help lower the load a bit.

Was the difficulty increased on all coins, even on the US server?

It is stated on the website newsbar that it was increased on all servers.

You're right, look at that. I used to keep an eye on the newsbar but Flound had stopped updating it for a while.

With such a high difficulty, it's pretty much useless to mine using a CPU or slow GPU. Hopefully user selectable difficulty per worker will be available soon.

If I could set my own difficulty how would I decide what value to use?

I'll have a chart up on the help page to help you decide.
Thanks. Let me ask another way.
If I have a fast GPU, e.g. 5970s and 7970s, am I hurt by having the difficulty too low?

Generally, no.  Having the difficulty too low causes higher load on the server, and more network traffic.  But it shouldn't hurt anything on your end.

Does the minimum time that take the profitability ratio into account?

For example, if it just switched to coin A (profitability 2.0) and suddenly coin B gets profitability 10.0, will it still wait the full 10 minutes before switching?

Yes.  I may need to tweak this now that there are other coin switching services gaining popularity.

I re-challenge all of you doing so well on the Multipool, to raise your Donation level to 5% for the rest of July.
Show some appreciation beyond taking today.

Be well.
T.

I can't believe that out of the top thirty users, only five are donating 2%. Flound, I highly recommend that you institute a 2% pool fee and add the donation on top. You should be compensated for all your hard work!!!

Some pay services are in the pipeline.  Until then, if you can't afford a fee then please at least turn off ad blockers and allow the site to display ads to you.  This helps by giving me some ad revenue that I can use to pay for the servers, even if donations are a bit low.

OMG,  I have mined on multipool all day and have recieved less per day than I normally do.. I hate all the switching...

I want to vote on Coins to mine  and mine the coin that has been voted on.

Or another thing is set deltas that the coin has to cross in order to mine it.  for example set Handicaps for more desirable coins.

So in my mind i might give MEC  a .1 handicap so that another coin has to at least be more efficient to mine by .1% in order to mine it.

Agreed that the rapid switching is a bit much. Maybe the coins 24-hour or 7-day profitability should be factored in, just seems like there is efficiency lost in the switching. I sell the coins very quickly, and still don't get the advertised profitability. It was also suggested that I should sit on some on the coins and wait for the value to go up, but that's not necessarily what the pool advertises.

We lose about 0.5% efficiency over 10 minutes by switching coins.

I sell my coins fairly slowly (1-2 times a day max), and I am still pretty close to the calculated profitability.  Do you have any hard numbers you can share?

As far as sitting on the coins, that's more speculation; you can potentially increase your rewards this way but it's also possible for the value to go down.  It's not something I particularly endorse unless you know what you are doing.

Is anyone else having trouble withdrawing MEC ?
When you click the cash out all I get is a page refresh, coins stay put.

Plz check it out
T.

Wow, I noticed the wallet was getting a little low earlier, so I sent over 2000 coins.  Looks like those have been withdrawn already so I sent over another 4000.  You should be able to withdraw soon.

I've still gotten about 2.15 profitability personally for the past 24h, and one of my miners was down for about 6h last night.  We can't always have days like yesterday and the day before.

Plenty of NVC now available for withdrawals.  I'll leave the confirms at 260 for now until we build our reserves back up.

It's not us, we don't have Nibble.  My guess would be middlecoin.

Whats going on with trc pool? we are getting only orphaned blocks.
May be an attack to terra network

The terracoin network has been under attack all day..  It's not currently obvious what the attacker's aims are.

The Multiport stats seem to be a little off.

They say we've spent 24.8 % of the last 24 hours on FTC, yet my profit snapshot says 0 FTC in the last 24 hours.

Yeah the multiport stats didn't update for a while after I added MEC and CAP.
1317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Megacoin - are the pools cheating? on: July 25, 2013, 03:22:28 AM
My pool is mining lots of MEC lately.  0% fee and we have detailed payout stats available for every block.

Are the Devs gonna fix this?  Kinda worried for Terracoin.  No activity on Git for over three months now.

Devs?

Congrats on reaching 600MH/s+ on 7777.

Thanks! Smiley

those MEC are adding up fast when multiport switches to it, me likey Smiley

Yeah, profitability has been insane for the past few days.

Why is 24 hr calculated profitability at 1.48?

Seems like CAP and MEC are not included into calculations yet

Oops, yeah that's why.

I added them, the profitability should start updating again soon.
