1361  Economy / Economics / Re: Which Asian countries have the greatest influence on bitcoin? on: February 20, 2018, 11:08:43 AM

Like their population Chinese have the large number of exchanges from the companies put up in China. I can find the people looking to invest on the bitcoin in china too but since they banned the bitcoin it really hurts them.
Japan we do not need to worry about them. They already made the bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies can be used legally in every cities and rural places in Japan. So they are already supporting the bitcoin.
Koreans, they regulated the bitcoin trading sites under their tax rules and regulations. I do not think that they completely ban the bitcoin. Hope everyone will look into invest more in that country too.
India, they are very few in numbers to using the bitcoins and other crypto currencies. They should accept the bitcoin as legal currency to use their since it has potential to change their country status to developed country. Their ministers team to discuss more about the blockchain investments and startups.

You know that China closed all their exchanges down in 2017, right?

I really don't understand why people keep talking about China. We discovered in the early part of 2017 that all their trading volume was fake. Then when they banned bitcoin and closed down all the exchanges, the price didn't tank, it surged from $1500 to $19,700. China doesn't have any affect on bitcoin's price and that's because their capital controls and lack of exchanges makes it very hard for them to invest.

Be careful about pumps - the cftc is cracking down:

https://cryptoinsider.21mil.com/cftc-offers-bounty-on-crypto-pump-dump-whistleblowers/

Quote
On February 15th, the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) issued an official directive warning customers to avoid cryptocurrency pump-and-dump schemes. More significantly, they are offering as much as 30% of the monetary sanctions recuperated from perpetrators as a direct result of whistleblower actions.
1363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia Officially Legalizes Bitcoin will this make a good correct in btc price? on: February 20, 2018, 10:21:45 AM
what u think frds will this will make good correction in btc price

Well, I found the following link:

https://cointelegraph.com/news/russias-ministry-of-finance-legalizes-cryptocurrency-trading-central-bank-disagrees

Quote
The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation (Minfin) has presented the Digital Assets Regulation Bill which defines and establishes a regulatory system for cryptocurrencies, ICOs, mining and trading, local news agency TASS reported today Jan. 25.

Notably, the central bank of Russia disagrees with Ministry of Finance that cryptocurrency exchange should be legally accepted. According to the central bank, the digital currency trading rules should be only applied to tokens that would attract financial investments.

They are just discussing stuff.

Even if they have gone ahead and legalised it, it won't make any difference to bitcoin's price. Russia is a poor country with a smaller GDP than Italy's. It is also a country with capital controls - so it should be interesting to see whether legalising crypto makes money flee
1364  Economy / Economics / Re: Preserving your global purchasing power on: February 20, 2018, 03:34:50 AM
Currency baskets do not necessarily mean a collection of currencies tied to a country. You could simply have a basket of different cryptocurrencies, all with different characteristics, which you think might be safer to hold than any one cryptocurrency on it's own. It's an old hedging technique.
1365  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is the lowest that BitCoin can go? on: February 20, 2018, 03:07:39 AM
What is the lowest that Bitcoin can go from now on?

Within the next 10 year or so, what is likely to be the absolute bottom from now on?

For what it's worth, the low in the 2014-2015 bear market was $17. If everything goes horribly wrong for bitcoin, it could go as low as that.

But there are formidable supports at $9000, $6000, $4200 and $1000 (which was where were were this time last year).
1366  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if this guy with 96,651 BTC suddenly cashes out? on: February 19, 2018, 06:56:12 PM
https://blockchain.info/address/3Cbq7aT1tY8kMxWLbitaG7yT6bPbKChq64

Currently circulating supply for Bitcoin is 16,874,375 BTC.

Does this mean an insignificant drop of ca. 0.57%?

Nobody sensible "suddenly cashes out" - unless they want to sell for considerably lower than the current price.

Most likely they'll sell in tranches over the counter, rather than on exchanges.
1367  Economy / Economics / Re: How to Choose Crypto Exchanges. Vote! on: February 19, 2018, 02:46:30 PM
I do not think the eight choices above will be the foundation of option for some people. I care about the platform that has a large user base, has its Altcoin platform. There are many potential altcoin and trading platforms based on that.

Having a lot of altcoins listed is not always a good exchange. Take the example as our very close EtherDelta where every ether shittoken gets listed the moment its unlocked. The site had problems recently and users ended up putting their private keys in a impersonating site. Thus losing their tokens and their ethereum.

Decentralized exchanges are far from safe. I would prefer to do KYC and trade on a centralized exchange. However I hope that in future decentralized exchanges become more popular than now and more safer.

That's due to phishing, and not a problem with the original exchange. No exchange can save users from being foolish and clicking on phishing ads on Google.
1368  Economy / Speculation / Re: The s&p500 is primed for a correction, BTC ATH will follow on: February 19, 2018, 02:36:39 PM
If this doesn't look primed for a correction then I don't know what it is.

My take is that it will fail to reach the 3000 milestone. Or it may, but it will be short lived, and now that we have been in a bear market, when the crash begins Bitcoin will be looking really attractive if you want to avoid the impeding doom, because given current growth, the 2008 crash will look like a joke compared to what's coming.

The date to watch is the Federal Reserve Meeting on March 20th-21st.

If the Fed raises interest rates (as they are expected to do), the S&P and Dow will head downwards. They're already terrified that the easy money that has fueled the market is being steadily withdrawn.
1369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: "Ethereum" founder warns cryptocurrencies ‘could drop to near-zero at any time’ on: February 19, 2018, 02:26:42 PM

Being realistic?I don't know I think he should just shut his mouth and enjoy his new find riches, he is a multi millionaire now, but unlike the creator of Bitcoin, he is well known some of the his quotes are ruining what he has built and the other people around his ethereum.

He's trying to protect crypto for the long term.

The types of people who rush in because they think everything is going to moon are also the types that demand strict regulation when they lose money.

In fact I'm pretty sure that the reason banks stopped allowing bitcoin purchases with credit cards was because they were experiencing chargebacks from people who bought and then the price fell, and they wanted someone else to pay while they kept their coins. That kind of thing gives crypto a bad name.
1370  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What's behind ETC ? why some consider it a better escape from ETH ? on: February 19, 2018, 02:22:24 PM
Hi !

I've seen ETC pumping all the week, and whattomine suggesting it's more profitable than ETH for the whole week and now it reached $37 ($24 last week).

So i'm asking what's really behind it ? is it only simple speculations or is it really a competitor of ETH, would you convince me there's perenity in ETC ?

There is another ETC hard fork coming. :

It will be on 5th March (block 5,500,000) and people will get Callisto 1:1.
1371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Steam Puzzle Game Offering 1 Bitcoin to the First Person Who Can Beat It on: February 19, 2018, 02:17:34 PM
I browsed through the article, the artwork was nice. Even though there will only be one winner or a team. It's still nice to see Bitcoin offered as a prize pool. When new players play the game and notice the prize mentioning "Bitcoin" some might wonder "What is Bitcoin?" and thus getting introduced into the world of cryptocurrency. Nonetheless I hope for a smooth launch tomorrow and may the smartest brain win.

It's such a shame that Steam disabled the ability to purchase games with bitcoin. Hopefully they'll enable other cryptocurrencies though.
1372  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What makes an altcoin valueable? on: February 19, 2018, 02:15:15 PM
If one creates an altcoin today, what are the 3 most important factors that would make it valuable? Or 3 activities that would do so?

The community trumps everything.

Look at Doge - it was created as a joke, it was designed to be the opposite of Bitcoin. So it had very high inflation initially, it had infinite coins, it was designed to be mined on laptops, each coin was meant to be worth only a few satoshi, and so on.

But it's still there, it is still used, it has good merchant adoption, thanks to it's crazy community.
1373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Businesses are now using Bitcoin as a marketing tactic on: February 19, 2018, 02:07:39 PM
Oh wow. I thought the craze was over after Bitcoin's mid-December love affair, but I guess it's fresh enough again now that it has actually started to rebound. That being said, their marketing team gets a 10/10 from me. I'm not the least bit interested about their product because I'm not a fan of juice, but I'd join the promo if I could lol. I hope this translates into better sales for them so more companies could jump on the bandwagon.

Yup - it's a chance for the juice people to get their product in front of nerd/tech types who normally wouldn't drink juice.

And it's free advertising for bitcoin. The more this happens, the more mainstream bitcoin will become.

A puzzle game coming out soon on Steam promises to offer a single Bitcoin to the first person who can beat it.

The developers of Montecrypto: The Bitcoin Enigma, Gem Rose Accent, will launch the $2 USD game on Steam on February 20. Players must traverse a maze in first-person and solve 24 different puzzles. The first player to finish all of the puzzles will receive one Bitcoin, which is currently worth a little over $9,800 USD.

You can work with others to solve these puzzles, leave hints and clues behind for other players, or lead them down dead ends if you so choose. Motherboard reports the developers of the game want to remain anonymous until a winner is crowned.

"We are trying to keep our identities secret for now," Gem Rose Accent said in a press release. "But we can say we are a group of game developers and that we had a crazy idea for a game."

February 20th is tomorrow...
1375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / More than 1,200 people complain to ACCC about Bitcoin scams on: February 19, 2018, 01:46:08 PM
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-19/more-than-1200-people-complain-to-accc-about-bitcoin-scams/9462240

New figures show more than 1,200 Australians complained to the national consumer watchdog about cryptocurrency scams last year.

[We] obtained the latest figures from the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission's (ACCC) Scamwatch, showing it received 1,289 complaints related to Bitcoin in 2017, with reported losses totalling $1,218,206.

The corporate regulator, Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), has issued a warning to would-be investors.

"These are quite speculative products and they can be quite high-risk," ASIC commissioner John Price told [us].

"It's been quite well documented that some of these products are scams, so please don't invest unless you're prepared to lose some or all of your money."

Unregulated exchanges are also a problem.

Australia's population is only 24 million, and likely no more than a few hundred thousand are into bitcoin, so these are quite a lot of complaints.
1376  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Businesses are now using Bitcoin as a marketing tactic on: February 19, 2018, 01:32:38 PM
See the following story from Australia:

https://www.cnet.com/news/bitcoin-boost-australia-cryptocurrency-competition-boost/

Quote
Australian juice company Boost is giving away four bitcoins -- one a week, for four weeks -- to those who buy some juice and enter a code in the Boost app.

In the past, these marketing camapigns would feature a holiday they were giving away if your bought the product and entered the codes. Now it's bitcoin.
1377  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin Dying as a Payment Option? on: February 19, 2018, 01:27:31 PM

I think the dynamics have changed since the first time the OP posted this thread and many will be having a different view right now because the price has significantly improved over the time and it seems to be gaining more strength in recent times and who knows the investor confidence is gradually coming back and many more people around the world will invest hereafters and have this recent growth sustained for a long time.

The dynamics haven't changed at all. None of the merchants who dropped bitcoin as a payment option have changed their minds. But a few have enabled Ethereum and Litecoin...
1378  Economy / Speculation / Re: Number of crypto hedge funds surges amid bitcoin volatility on: February 19, 2018, 01:10:22 PM

Where's the list of these 226 hedge-funds? I could find only 25' https://next.autonomous.com/cryptofundlist/.

Those are just the top twenty five. You need to purchase library access from them for the full list (that's how data companies like this make their money).
1379  Economy / Speculation / Re: End of Chinese holiday... any effect on Bitcoin Price?? on: February 19, 2018, 12:52:05 PM

I think there will be a little bit of price up coz Chinese investors should purchase some Bitcoin after coming back from their holiday.

You know that China banned bitcoin in the spring of last year, right? All the exchanges were shut down - and it made no difference to the price because it turned out they weren't players in the bitcoin market, it was all fake volume.

The end of the Chinese new year will have no effect because a) they can't buy bitcoins, they haven't access to exchanges and b) they weren't very into bitcoin in the first place, it was all fake.
1380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poland’s Central Bank Secretly Paid Youtubers to Slander Cryptos on: February 19, 2018, 03:01:13 AM
That's just disgusting, especially the fact that even the PFOC was also involved in it, I can only imagine how threatened the Polish govt must've felt about cryptocurrencies that they had to resort to spread propaganda on youtube...pathetic.

Poland is a former communist country, and is clearly worried about the threats to their currency (the zloty).

Lots of these former communist countries are completely paranoid and feel that anything that loosens their control is bad. They are going to feel so stupid when mass adoption of crypto happens.
