141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: January 15, 2018, 08:11:04 AM
xspec needs to go on a bigger exchange so ppl start tor ecognize it  Wink

the devs don't want that. They want to keep it on small anonymous exchanges

I don't think it's the size that matters (at least in this case). It's the requirements around the exchanges listings. If Bittrex or any of the big exchanges would approach XSPEC to be listed because they are interested in listing a coin with immense potential, then this would certainly not be declined.

That said, I suppose that with with staking donations in place, and once the devs have received their fair share to continue their work, the decision of how to put any left-over money to use should be decided by the community. And if the community feels that it's more worthwhile to spend the money on getting listed on an exchange than, for instance, hiring more devs, or spending on marketing, then I'm sure the project would not resist.

But again, for that we need to have the money in the coffers, and the devs need to get reimbursed properly.

the world doesn't work like that. Exchanges don't approach you. You approach them and also pay them to list your coin. Cheapest exchange is Cryptopia where you need to pay around 100k dollars. The bigger ones are about twice as expensive. On top of that you need to guarantee some volume

143  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 14, 2018, 11:27:45 AM
Byteball has grown at almost the same rate as eth
Nice to see that, good luck

what have you been smoking? Over the whole year there has barely been growth. A lot of people got months ago at 700$. Yes, if you got in late at 200$ maybe, but take a step back to see the bigger picture
144  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: $10K - goal to 50x in 3.5 years. Picks? on: January 13, 2018, 08:01:48 PM
Hey Everyone,

I'm investing 10K with the goal to turn it to 500K in 3.5 years. Not going to be actively trading, just going to try to pick 10 coins at 1K each and hold.

Going for high risk/high reward plays. What would you pick? I know, DYOR and all, just wanting to see other's opinions.

I'm not sure we still have 3.5 years of bull market. The bubble has to pop at some point.

Also I don't think you need that long to get there either. Take a look at the following high risk/high reward coins: SKY, XPEC, NAV, ONION, PART, ZERO. All of these have a very decent chance to go up 10x-50x in the next year. With a balanced portfolio you should be sitting on a 100k at the end of the year at minimum. After that 5x with totally different (after a coin has grown much it may loose it's upside potential) coins shouldn't be hard.
145  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: When will prices go up again? on: January 13, 2018, 07:55:12 PM
Everything's in red right now and it's been like this for a while.
Do you think it will get back to normal as soon as closed exchanges reopen?
Is there any other reason that would explain the market being so slow today?

Seems we are looking at different coinmarketcap's Cheesy

Today everything is green. And you can't expect the market cap to raise indefinitely. It went from 150B to 700B+ in no time. I'm glad to see some stable cap now.

this. Corrections are guaranteed to happen. Look at the past and you will see BTC has had a few 50% corrections before. It might be time for another one.
146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: RaiBlocks (XRB) is going to be a top 10 coin on: January 13, 2018, 07:52:33 PM
Since Rai is comparable to IOTA in tech, I don't see why the investors who put a 12B market cap on IOTA wouldn't see Rai as being undervalued sitting at 3B.

At best Rai surpasses IOTA. At worst Rai matches IOTA market cap, but who thinks it should be sitting at 3B when IOTA's at 12B?!

It doesn't make sense. This is an undervalued asset as long as market exposure is there. Binance is a start.

Rai is fundamentally flawed since it's inception. Unlike the other two DAg cloins (iota and byteball), Rai is essentialy BTC without the blockchain. What it looses by doing this is the double spend protection. Essentialy Rai is vulnerable to man in the middle attacks that could double spend like crazy, which is probably why cryptopia dropped it a few days after listing.

You can read further about these problems here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1219264

The dev of course is sticking his head in the sand and denies everything. Read the whitepaper, compare it to bitcoin and you will understand.
147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: My Grandpa always said... CHEAP IS GOOD... Buy cheap, sell high. Thanks granda! on: January 13, 2018, 07:44:54 PM
Could you suggest any coins to invest in now? If so, what are these coins and why?
I will not blindly follow you, I would definitely research every coin before investing even 100$.

research SKY, XPEC and NAV. All cheap undervalued gems.
148  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 12, 2018, 09:18:20 PM
This coin is brilliant but in order to succeed,

listing on coinmarketcap must be in MBYTE or KBYTE

https://www.coindesk.com/weathering-altcoin-shitstorm-investing-next-one/

"It seems ridiculous to say, but the cheaper the asset, the greater the chance of a return. And when I said cheap, I'm not referring to a fundamental measure of value like a value investor would (P/BV, P/E, etc). I'm referring to its price.

A chart of returns over the past seven days paints this picture. There's a direct negative correlation between the price of the token and return. It's scary, but it's unfortunately true."

"Investors trying to find fundamental value are ripping their eyes out. XRP, with legitimately zero fundamental usage (see below), just passed BTC in diluted market cap."

unfortunately I have to agree with you, which means guys in charge of changing this are acting stubbornly. but on the other hand, this is not for tony to decide. it's not his choice, exchanges and CMC should be contacted individually for this change to happen.
it won’t happen before Tonych agree to the Idea, exchanges is the easiest part hopefully Tonych will break his silence either agree or don’t agree to the Idea and put an end to it

he did. Tony said on reddit it's never going to happen. At which point I finally gave up :|

guys is it possible to back up my onion wallet in case my laptop  one day decides to die  . it already happened to me once

Of course it is - and you should always do it, no matter which coin it is!

Just make one (or more) copies of your wallet.dat file and save it on a secure place like a USB drive or similar. What you also can do is to write down your private key so that you can also access your coins even if the wallet file gets lost!

how do you export the private keys? Also, does the wallet file need to be backed up every time we receive funds or just once?
150  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA on: January 12, 2018, 09:25:05 AM

I don't understand the article. What they are stating is that a lot of data needs to be transferred for IoT and iota will make that free. Iota is a coin though, it doesn't transfer data. For that you will need a sim card, and a 4G data plan. At least that's how it's currently done. Can anyone shed some light on the use cases?

The tangle can store data, just like a blockchain. It creates a record of data and that data is valuable.

of course it can but that's not for the large amount of data needed for IoT. I worked on an IoT project in the past, and our devices were generating over 1TB of data per day. Are you prepared to store that in the DAG? (and that's just one project) Most importantly isn't that data actualy stored in each full wallet? I still don't understand why a coin should be storing other data then transactions.

See the Permanodes section in the roadmap - https://blog.iota.org/iota-development-roadmap-74741f37ed01

yes, for storing the ledger. Nowhere does it say it's for storing many petabytes of IoT data that is meaningless for everybody else then the creator. That's why we use cloud storage...

The cloud storage centers can be the permanodes of IOTA. The data also can be transferred from tangle to a third party cloud storage. Local nodes/tangle won’t store data for long time and will be snapshooted to keep small.

why would these permanodes store potentially thousands of petabytes of meaning IoT data for various companies/applictions for free? Storage is expensive at those quantities and bandwidth as well...
151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★[ANN] [NAV] NAV COIN - NAVTECH NOW DECENTRALIZED! on: January 12, 2018, 09:20:45 AM
what I don't understand is why no marketing is done for this coin. The tech is amazing and yet somehow it has gone so unnoticed. A little marketing could help push the prices up a bit and help funding for the devs.
152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Hidden Gems For 100x 2018 on: January 12, 2018, 09:15:41 AM
http://fairreporters.net/economy/best-undervalued-altcoins-to-buy-on-cryptopia/

I agree with most of the coins on that list. I have a few of each in my portfolio and believe each has a 10x-100x chance this year. I have each because I'm averaging my chances.
153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 12, 2018, 08:28:29 AM
The problem is that nobody care about tech, only marketing matters.

Most people only care about exchanges, exchanges, exchanges. Marketing... This is so narrow minded! The value derives from the technology, not from exchanges and promoting inside South Korea! Exchanges and all those things could be added/done later on and then price would eventually soar anyway, so why caring about marketing all the time?
At this point in time, yes short-term hype marketing is king. However in the long run superior tech (with some visibility of course) and cryptos that inspire long-term confidence will win. Currency is not just a cord connection standard. Look at Monero. That's a currency I would be comfortable buying for the long-run, in the top five in my book. Completely a community effort. Or look at raiblocks. Around for three years with good development and tech, just now got visibility. Marketing is a good idea, but the lack thereof is no reason for despair.

railblocks no. That is a deeply flawed bitcoin without a blockchain and has a dev that sticks his head in the sand about it. You can read more here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1219264 I don't think XRB has a long term future at all.
154  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Particl•PART|Confidential Transactions|Atomic Swaps|Cold Staking|P2P Marketplace on: January 12, 2018, 08:17:22 AM
how does the planned market place compare to other dark web marketplaces. Will it be hard to take down and trace users on? Who will list products and how?

still no answer to this one. I'd like to know how the p2p market will work
 - who gets to list products
 - who moderates listings (even the most dark marketplaces ban some stuff)
 - how will you identify good sellers (ratings?)
 - how will you prevent government take down and De-anonymization of buyers and sellers

Who gets to list products:
Vendors, any user can put listings up. There's an anti-spam fee though, but it is very low (cents). No percentage taken on any sale and no fee is required to be paid to be activated as a vendor account.

Who moderates listings:
There is a self-governance system that will be built where users can flag bad content. There are private listings though, these cannot be moderated but also don't appear on the public side of the marketplace. Only those who possess the listing link can access it. We expect most of the dark stuff to happen on the dark side and want to keep our public interface clean.

How will you identify good sellers:
There is going to be a reputation system built into the marketplace, however it is still in development as we are playing with ways to avoid or at least minimize as much as possible fake votes and such.

How will you prevent government take down and De-anonymization of buyers and sellers?
We will avoid any takedown just the same way Bitcoin has avoided take downs ever since its inception. We are a blockchain/P2P hybrid platform, and we heavily focus on privacy and decentralization. We make NO compromise on that end because we want our platform to be as resilient to any kind of attack possible. For example, even our proof-of-stake protocol is ultra secure, as we have introduced cold staking and quantum resistance to better protect the identity of stakers as well as secure their funds. All marketplace transactions are private by default, as we use CT (and RingCT further down the line, currently under peer-review at the NJIT Department of Technology). That means our marketplace is fully fungible. I guess we could compare our marketplace to Monero, as in we are the only fungible marketplace being built whereas Monero is the only true fungible currency that I know of.

The Particl staff has NO moderation or administrative power on the Particl, nor does it benefit from its use (they get none of the fees, it is 100% redistributed to stakers).

Also let me highlight the fact that we are in no way trying to be a decentralized Silkroad. We are building a decentralized privacy platform to give people the power to take back their rights to privacy.

while you may not be trying to compete with the likes of silkroad, but if you don't then you are competing with amazon and alibaba, without bringing any kind of value over it? Privacy you say? Do you feel the need for additional privacy on amazon? How many users do?

As for private links I'm not sure it's a good idea. Unmoderated content is a big no. Even on darkweb markets there is heavy moderation that is needed. In most places weed is fine but you have to draw a line to assassinations and human trafficking. If these private links would be available I certainly wouln't want to participate in such a market and risk being associated with such trading. Also it would attract very heavy government actions against the market place it's self, as well as those that created it (yes, if the dev names are known they will be liable for what is sold - and if they cannot control it they will be forced to shut it down by any mean possible!)
155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SKY] Skycoin Launch Announcement on: January 12, 2018, 07:42:39 AM
Oh I got way more growth then that. I'm not concerned with that though, I'm concerned that due to lack of marketing SKY is falling into obscurity, while other shitcoins are raising in the ranks. Most people haven't heard about SKY, even though it's so old...

Yes, despite the fact that the project exists for a long time it is really little-known. But let the code speak! I'm sure that fame will come to the project, it's a matter of time. It is as inevitable as the fall of damn shit coins.

the code only speaks to developers, if they have time to look over it that is. All the fame and attention is captured right now by shitcoins that shout loud how good they are. Sometimes you also need to speak up instead of waiting forever to be noticed, because with all the charlatans around it might not happen

nobody replied though on the marketing roadmap. Technical one is clear, but I don't see any promotion being done, which is a pitty because this is one of the best coins out there, from a technical perspective. A real gem.
Really good interview with Skycoin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRIGi4XOOps&t=1827s very good as an overview of what Skycoin is.

I know very well what skycoin is. I'm a rather early investor. What I'd like to know if there is any marketing planned or we are going to stay forever outside of top 100.

The price made x6 within 2 month. Why are you unhappy? Wink May be listing on Bittrex or Binance in the coming months will allow more people to learn about Skycoin.

2500 usd  an onion by next january 2019

And what if this really becomes true? Also bitcoin was at USD 18.

Bitcoin is old software, DeepOnion is Bitcoin 3rd Generation.

not really. It has some improvements but not that big. Mainly tor + the deepsend which is on the road map. Also we will suffer of the same scalability issues as bitcoin so personally I don't event want to get that big until a solution is found.
