141  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Can we trace the "stolen" coins from Gox and find the "thief"? on: March 06, 2014, 11:16:20 AM
Isn't it just looking for same sized outputs to same destination from know Gox addresses?
142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin won't ever become Mainstream. It's just a Prototype. on: March 06, 2014, 10:40:15 AM
The Bitcoin isn't just a protocol like TCP/IP, SMTP, NTP, HTTP, FTP, Bittorrent etc.. All of these protocols are essentially free, open and their purpouse is to move data from one point to another... And really that is why they are so popular the freeness and interoperability.

It's also the blockchain eg. the data which is huge difference. Thus bitcoin would  also be the altcoins.

Even if bitcoin is good and has a future. The main-blockchain itself doesn't seem realistic one to take over the world... Too much of control is in early adopters hands... What is the premium of buying your currency from some outside source? Is it really worth that premium?
143  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why would anyone "sell" a money making machine? on: March 05, 2014, 04:09:43 PM
Capital... You get pre-orders you can pay the stuff to make miners. Which you sold...

You don't have money, you can't make stuff to sell...

And we are quite far beyond the point when mining was a good profitable way for manufactures. Now it's finding a fool who buys the stuff they are currently making...
144  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will hit $1000 by this Friday (07-03-2014) on: March 05, 2014, 03:57:06 PM
It will never hit 1000$ again Grin
145  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price at end of 2015? on: March 04, 2014, 03:17:48 PM
bitcoin is binary. so either $100,000 or nothing by then.

hehe Smiley

I think price is going to be 11101011 $ Smiley (times 10)

470$... I can give that to you... Though I'm quite a bit more bearish my self.
146  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Progressive/Lib defending NSA, Attacking Snowden: Stephen Colbert @ RSA Conf. on: March 03, 2014, 01:43:52 PM
It was a joke.  He said he couldn't believe Snowden was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize which is reserved for distinguished people like Henry Kissinger.  If you know your history, you get the joke...  Kissinger committed honest to god war crimes, and Snowden obviously did not.  It's a slight against Kissinger and the Nobel committee, NOT against Snowden.

Also, he's obviously "in character".  Would you get upset at an actor doing something terrible in a movie?

Obama also received one... The prize doesn't have the best track-record lately...
147  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price at end of 2015? on: March 03, 2014, 01:14:09 PM
What is the price of USD in end of 2015? Grin
148  Economy / Economics / Re: If Russia attacks Ukraine - Bitcoin? on: March 03, 2014, 11:56:03 AM
I don't bitcoin is very handy during a war... If the Internet is controlled or goes down...

On other hand there is some merits if you survive and hold sufficient amount and were able to exchange it...
149  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MTGOX Statement *NEW MAR 3RD* on: March 03, 2014, 07:53:20 AM
There are just 2 realististic possibilities:

1. Mark Karpeles stole it
2. Somebody else from MtGox stole it.

The whole "there was a hacker, who used a bug to steal the Money"-Argument is just stupid.

This is the likeliest scenario if the amounts are really wrong...

Unless they have had some sort of bug in their implementation, which I can't leave out either. Meaning that trades have not been balanced on sheets...
150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 12 Signs that you might be a Crypto Newbie. on: March 03, 2014, 07:04:08 AM
1. You fall to click-baits by spammers on bitcointalk.com
151  Economy / Speculation / Re: If someone buys Bitcoin today, they'll be lucky to see a 300%+ ROI. on: March 02, 2014, 06:32:02 PM
Well, if it can go from zero to $1000+ off the back of a few hundred thousand enthusiasts, scammers and libertarian whack jobs then all bets are off if it gains traction in the wider world.

There are ever increasing rumblings of that being the case.

2014 may not set the world on fire in terms of returns, it is creating the building blocks for the infrastructure it requires to spread far and wide.

Umm, telling the truth that it's based on enthusiast, scammers and crazy anarchist and state denying libertarians isn't really a positive thing.

Many bubbles have had crazy people and they didn't end too well... Some survive out of those and the value stagnates a long time... Maybe never recovering or going up again...
152  Economy / Speculation / Re: If someone buys Bitcoin today, they'll be lucky to see a 300%+ ROI. on: March 02, 2014, 05:10:14 PM
The needed numbers don't match, but the scales do.

The amount of money to 3 times the current price is 3 times the amount invested thus far.

And it's very questionable if bitcoin is going to be THE currency... It has users now, but just considering how easy it would be for a new alt-coin to get in if the really big players would go with it, like Amazon, Paypal and Google.

Just consider those 3 would start offering it as option for payment for all the sites they are now available... Why would they, because they would be early adopters in that case and gain the benefits form it instead of giving it to current early adopters...
153  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people think income tax is ok? on: March 01, 2014, 06:11:49 PM
Tax reform will never happen because the politicians would lose out. Doesn't matter who you vote for.

Don't vote for them then.

Tax reform will never happen because the politicians would lose out. Doesn't matter who you vote for.

Yes it is true.

But this is what we call democracy Smiley
Anyway - whoever will win, things are not gonna crush or change to much better just like that.

And income tax is perhaps needed ... they need to earn money somehow Wink they suffer money issues so perhaps without it ... would be to hard for them.

you don't quite understand..

we need income tax because we can't get organised and gather the money to build anything, how would be build schools, hospitals, pools, football fields, anything, anything
who would build roads, stop lights, signs, policeman?
there would be robbery everyhwere without income taxes

Read the rest of the thread. We've had this argument several times and it goes nowhere, but I'll save you the time: They just say people will gather around to make their own charity co-ops and everything will be rosy cos there's no big bad governments and everybody gets to choose what they spend their money on  Roll Eyes.

Yes and people are free decide on any contract like work, anyway who needs to eat and so on...
154  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Something big is coming? 4 bankers suicide last week on: March 01, 2014, 11:27:09 AM
It's strange timing...

They should capitulate at this time, there is still ways to make profit someway... Untill there isn't no way to get off, it isn't time for suidice...
155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The real lesson the community should learn on: March 01, 2014, 01:13:26 AM
By pennies I mean the trillions of dollars used IN pennies.  There are more currency units used in Bitcoin then the entire fiat money supply expressed in pennies.
120 trillion pennies would easily cover the land area of the earth several feet deep and kill all life. You had me worried a second. Wink

Nope... Just 10887 km^2, if we are talking about USA pennies and short trillions...

Even larger pre-decimal Irish pennies and long trillions it would only cover earth to depth of about 106.4mm... About 11 cm.
156  Economy / Speculation / Re: A cracker owning 850,000btc. How bad is that? on: February 28, 2014, 05:15:27 PM
Hoverer, the cracker still suffer from the same market mechanisms as your standard whale. If he floods the market with 850 k he will in effect kill the golden goose, making all his coins worth zero. Unless he wants to destroy bitcoin what would be the point of that?

What is the liquidity of all the current markets?

That is how much his short term profits are... And that might be sufficient for one person to live nicely for a while...
157  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt.Gox Bankruptcy - CNN States 1.75 Million BTC Lost on: February 28, 2014, 03:28:04 PM
they counted all the fingers of all the journalists they employ and halved it.

Wouldn't zero divided by two still be zero?
158  Economy / Speculation / Re: New ATH, $5,500...coming soon on: February 28, 2014, 12:48:30 PM
$5500 this year is completely delusional. I really hope someone ends up posting my response to prove me wrong, but thinking that will happen is, again, delusional.

To be fair people were saying 1200 was delusional.

people probably thought $1 was delusional back when price was $0.01
The difference between .01 and $1 is less than a dollar. The difference between $600 and $5500 is $4,900. I hardly think these compare. I hope to hell I am wrong, because I will be holding btc. I'm just hoping it hits a grand again this year.

Just think of equal amount of fiat... 0.01 to 1 is at 21M $ at max... Where as 4900$ change is 55,8 billion dollars for 12,4 million coins...

That is slight difference...
159  Economy / Speculation / Re: High frequency traders want to speculated on bitcoin? on: February 28, 2014, 09:54:52 AM
HFT does need support from exchange...

Simplest thing would be to only use exchanges that don't allow HFT or set reasonable limits to speed of orders.
160  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What is the greatest lesson of MtGox? on: February 25, 2014, 03:08:07 PM
Don't use URL for username and password?

Don't ever use exchange that uses GET for login...
