Unless blockchain.info is involved
Indeed. We all here accept payments as soon as they are on the blockhain without waiting for confirmations. Takes no more than a few seconds in the absolute majority of cases. Only blockchain.info webwalletstuff is a problem as it takes unneccessarily longer. We will keep on doing so untill we suffer the first double-spend attack, which I expect some time soon actually, carried out by some nerds as proof of concept who will come back after an hour and smile and pay their bill anyway . Hi there! I had joined the press team because I thought Bitcoin needed something like this and because it is quite a challenge to set up and operate a non-corporate communication department without hierarchical structures with some decider on top. But I have the feeling the experiment has already failed and we need to re-think how to run such a thing. It cannot work the way it does now with some two or three people determining political correctness and an according content strategy, believing they speak for the whole community, which they are not. Maybe we need more than one press center, different press centers with different editorial boards and different approaches and communication goals. Just like the community has different motivations, visions and points of view on the world. We could have a competition between these press centers and the press could choose where to go to find stories and interviewees. The way it's running now is a ridiculous attempt of a few people to promote their own views and ideologies. And it is not going to stop. What if one of the 'accepted' interviewees says something that does not suit one of the censors? The press center right now is not even a service to the press as it is totally biased and does not reflect the diversity of the community at all. Right now the press center is a huge lie actually . And the press people are not so stupid not to realise that. I can imagine that a forked press center is on the way already. Joe

if ONLY one could actively keep it from d/ling the fuckin chain all the time. Just disconnect your peers for the time you don't want to download. And anyway, upgrade in case you use an old version, the latest release is fast as hell to sychronize the blockchain. Joe

Take away the speculation and, poof, there goes the value. The majority of it at least.
And that's the difference to Bitcoin? Joe

bump.
Of course the answers are stupid. Something like "yes of course I trust the laws of mathemathics more than any central banker." is completely missing.
But it's mass media and they want easy answers so let's give them that!
Big thanks to the OP for finding this and bringing it up here!

How can anyone with intelligence believe this is a positive?
1 step forward and 2 steps back is never a good thing.
This was two steps taken forward at one time and that can only lead to hitting the floor. What I have tried to say is that taking one step after another is a better strategy. And that I appreciate the hit on the floor happening rather now than at a moment at which Bitcoin would fall from a height that it could not survive. Joe

Imagine, people into a new form of money are in it for the money!
Quelle horreur!
Imagine, people who are into a new form of money because it implies a new, fairer, better and more capable financial and economical system for the greater good are not in there for the fast buck. You have failed to undestand that difference so of course you have failed to understand my point and only therefor you actually think you summed it up with your answer. Fail on! Joe

I have seen people panicking today. Real, actual panic and fear in their eyes. They were into Bitcoin for a couple of weeks only, not even understanding the technology properly, not to speak of the ideals behind crypto currency. They went in for the money, to make money and now they lost money and are scared shitless and dissappointed to the bone.
And I have seen people who were very relaxed today. People who might in theory have lost a few 100k in terms of euros or dollars in the last 24 hours.
Last night, when shit started I was sitting together with Mike and Philip to get some Bitcoin related stuff hacked together. We saw the turmoil starting, tried our best to analise and understand what was going on and then continued working. After a couple of hours I realised that none of us had even checked the exchange rate for those hours, being concentrated on work to bring Bitcoin forward.
There's people who are into Bitcoin to change the world for the better.
And there's people who are in it for the bucks.
The latter have created this exchange rate madness and will hopefully be put off again now for a while.
As one of the former I am relieved that this market overheating bullshit has come to a halt and that people who are after the money will now most likely stay away again for a while, so we can keep on developing this wonderful technology and watch it grow slowly, gradually and sustainably.
Actually, from every aspect I look at this event I find it positive for the further development of Bitcoin. This is worth much more to me and the most people in the community than what or what not our coins might be worth in fiat right now. And if people who came in for the money are getting out again now:
good riddance!
Just my 5 satoshis.

Kamera-Warnung! Joe

I absolutely see it like that when trying to explain it's behaviour as an investment. It is like the stock of a company that has a patent on a technology that has tremendious future potential. Think apple with a patent on the mouse and graphical user interface that cannot be sidestepped by anyone, anywhere forever. With the beauty that in our case the patent is not held by a corporation but by mankind. Joe

it's a good way to sneak money across borders without detection, eg. to pay informants in totalitarian regimes. Naw. The CIA _is_ the best, most efficient and most used way to sneak money across borders without detection. Why would they want someone else to be able to do the same? Joe

Getting confused now.
Do you guys not watch tv?
His identity has been revealed quite a while ago in a documentary called "The Good Wife".
I saw it on tv so it is true and if anyone would come along now claiming he was Satoshi that could only be a scammer.

There is a really strong reason why all large corporations have a dedicated team of PR staff, and it's because helping journalists write good stories is a full time job...Bitcoin does not have any dedicated PR people, nor should it. Why shouldn't Bitcoin be promoted using PR resources like any other product? "Any other product" tends to imply a conventional company with conventional PR resources, not an open source invention. If we manage to throw together a team of dedicated people and the infrastructure needed I do not see a reason why we could not have a core PR team just like we have a core developer team. I like the challenge to set up a non-corporate strategic communications team that is able to deliver what the media need and to do so in favour of Bitcoin. If that would in any way be as efficient and productive and responsive as you developers are that would be a real gain for Bitcoin and we would the first open source community that shows it can be done. Think so too. Had printed myself a t-shirt with it today, wearing it right now. Do I remember correctly that this is Boromir? Amazing how many people around here get it without further explanation and start laughing. Joe

Joe

Thanks for all the contributions and respect for the creativity all around! This is awesome, excellent, hilarious and at the same time some of the best guerilla marketing ever seen. Thousand of new Bitcoin users in Spain are self speaking. Now that it turns ou the haircut _will_ happen (16% off everything above 100k, that includes retirement savings accounts and the money saved up to pay the kid's university and so on) we can use that meme in all it's different expressions and visualisations even further. I run a little bar in Berlin that does quite a good job at promoting Bitcoin and bringing it nearer to a lot of people. I would love to blow up and color-print out all of the images posted here and hang them up at the walls of our place. I would also print leaflets explaining what these pictures are about and that unconfiscatable money _obviously_ is a good idea nowadays. I would call this something like "the first exhibition of grassroots art by members of the decentralised Bitcoin community" or so and I would of course credit any forum member who contributed on the bottom of each printout. So here's my questions: Do you think that would be a good idea? Would you mind me using your image? HAVE YOU GOT ANY MORE TO GIVE? Joe

@Akka: der Thread wurde auf Seite 23 dicht gemacht .... no need to say more . Joe

13.03.2013 4 leute anwesend 21.03.2013 6 leute anwesend
ist doch schon eine echte steigerung !
@joecoin
Keep it up and: to blockchain eternity! Joe

Bump. I've been seedered. Made my day. Joe
