Thanks for the link. Everyone with half a brain should recognize that the unwillingness to increase the blocksize is driven by ulterior motives and greed. A second layer is unnecessary and opposite to Satoshi's stated goal of decentralization.

Without the premine this would have been slightly interesting. Also any coin dev should provide one or more seednodes.

No innovation at all AND fully premined...

Soooo...I'm guessing that coins caught in a transfer from a wallet that is syncing ok to Coinexchange wallet (which is offline ATM) will come good when they sync up ok?
I hope so. Coinexchange now displays this warning when trying to deposit: "Warning: The wallet appears to be offline currently. Please wait until the wallet is online to deposit funds.", wasn't there yesterday. Hopefully the fix by optiminer will be implemented soon, even nicer would be a fix of the underlying problem: There is a segfault in the hodl daemon when the period gets negative which makes it crash: Thread 1015 "bitcoin-msghand" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. [Switching to Thread 0x7ffcf8998700 (LWP 1795)] getBonusForAmount (periods=periods@entry=-88680, theAmount=theAmount@entry=6150503) at primitives/transaction.cpp:169 169 CBigNum rate256(bonusTable[periods]); (gdb) bt #0 getBonusForAmount (periods=periods@entry=-88680, theAmount=theAmount@entry=6150503) at primitives/transaction.cpp:169 #1 0x0000555555748698 in GetInterest (nValue=6150503, outputBlockHeight=262619, valuationHeight=<optimized out>, maturationBlock=173939) at primitives/transaction.cpp:245 #2 0x0000555555749ee0 in CTxOut::GetValueWithInterest (this=this@entry=0x7ffcf8995c40, outputBlockHeight=<optimized out>, valuationHeight=<optimized out>) at primitives/transaction.cpp:155 #3 0x00005555555f0413 in ConnectBlock (block=..., state=..., pindex=pindex@entry=0x7fffe40075a0, view=..., fJustCheck=fJustCheck@entry=false) at main.cpp:1945
I fixed this by capping the period at 0 if it is negative for the daemon at hodl.optiminer.pl. Would be nice to have an official fix.

I'm not sure how to unlock before maturation or if you even can.
You can't. @titchbwfc: Upload a screenshot of the wallet and we should be able to see what's going on. Pool, Coinexchange and Blockexplorer are still not synced, does every Linux user have this problem?
That's probably what happened at coinexchange.io and the block explorer too. Weird, the Windows wallet seems to work fine. Time for some solo mining I guess.
Interesting indeed. Will it be possible to mine on more than one CPU core? Chrome is much, much faster than Firefox btw. Also you should make it clear on the website that the mined coins are worthless as the network is still in the Testnet phase.

what's the problem with the VPS Shut your mouth, you scamming prick. @OP: This guy scammed by selling VPS and disabling them after a few days, I wouldn't want to be associated with him.

Huge fee ? Are you high ? Why the fuck would someone bother with block chain bullshit when they could use a File Locker service or millions of others. This idea is fucking retarded. And i eluded to why too.. an inherent problem. Good bloody luck guy
EDIT: http://uploaded.net/registerThat shows 4 months of premium service for $25 ..or use free mode LOL or ? Azure ? or other hosting platforms ? such as Google ? All of you out there are simply looking for s stupid way to tack shit onto a block-chain like bolting a barbecue to a skateboard Yeah, a huge fee for 25b of data. Do you consider any of your listed services censorship-free? Where would Wikileaks upload their files? To uploaded.net or to an uncensorable blockchain? I don't want to tack shit onto the blockchain, the shit is already there. I just increase the amount of the shit, because I consider it worthwhile.

Reading more into Datacoin, you are right: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=325735.0Totally missed that... Bringing the idea over to a Cryptonote coin has a few advantages still, for example anonymity and rising blocksize. Should I go on? The other project seems to have died down quite a bit, maybe it was too early. Storage costs have fallen a lot.
I did, from what I understand none of these actually store data in the blockchain, the only project trying to do that is Bismuth afaik. I wasn't able to find clear numbers on the data limit per tx however.
I'm not starting from 0, Cryptonote has passed the tests of time and everything seems to come together nicely. There should be another test release later tonight with a working proof of concept.
edit: Quora allows storage of data in the blockchain, no github to quickly check the source code for their data limit though...

Check your PMs, I need a small Ubuntu VPS and I need it quick. edit: Recieved!

Still waiting for my server, should be ready soon. Then I will insert it as a seednode and do a second test release, that hopefully more people will try. Currently working on compiling a Windows version, I hate compiling on WIndows.

This looks interesting indeed, what is the limit of user data to be stored in one tx and in one block?
Ever heard of Bitcoin ? Heard any complaints about it ? And you wanna do what now ? 25b of data for a huge fee... Surely that can be improved. Bismuth allows you to store data using OpenField easily, no hacks required The reason why this is not popular are the network throughput limits. Blockchain is not very effective at storing large data as of now.
Looks interesting but cumbersome, will have a closer look. The idea is that "normal" transactions and data transactions fight for the limited space in the block, increasing fees in the process. edit: Actually it has the wanted funtionality, no clear info about their data limit per tx though.

From what I understand, the data in your example is not stored in the blockchain but on several miner's hard disks. This means it is not close to being as secure and uncensorable as when being stored directly in the blockchain.
While it is obvious that a lot of thought was put into this solution, it feels cumbersome and not as "elegant" as simply allowing big amounts of data in every transaction.

Thanks for the interest. By an optimistic estimate launch is two days away. I only want to launch this when there's a way to store the data that everyone can easily use. At least messages must work at launch, the other possibilities can be developed later. Without a seednode or even other computer testing is very cumbersome, which is why I'll do the bulk of the work tomorrow when the server is ready.
