141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: x20 Investment Opportunity on: May 16, 2017, 04:07:45 AM
Acoin is an interesting concept. I like the small supply, so sick of seeing coins with 50 billion supply and devs premining hundreds of millions of coins.
But Im not sure how I feel about the random reward. Will do some more reading and keep an eye on this.

Price has dropped 30%...
But a $24k market cap means there could be a lot of room for growth if there is active development.

142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [VTL] VitalAir on: May 16, 2017, 12:21:24 AM
Bought a couple dollars worth of coins.
How do I exchange them for this bottle of air?
Does it have a refreshing smell?
143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Major burglary on: May 15, 2017, 02:53:27 PM
Good reminder on why you need to be very careful with any computer used for Cryptocurrency.
Don't download anything. Keep Antivirus up to date and run scans often. Use 2FA for any exchange etc.
If you have this much currency, it might be worth buying a laptop and only using it for transfers. Or at least run a live CD of a clean linux distro etc.
144  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC ETF SEC APPROVED on MAY 15th on: May 15, 2017, 01:46:28 PM
Yup, but the far majority of the people are only here to earn money. Bitcoin's decentralized aspect and the technology that powers everything are not of any importance to them. Browse through various banks accepting Bitcoin type of threads, and you'll see how many people like the idea of banks incorporating Bitcoin. Certain people prefer to remain a slave of the old corrupted system it seems...

People get lazy when they are comfortable.
If you already have a good life and food and a house, you will continue to use banks because it works.
The only people that want to change the system are those that are very desperate, or very forward-thinking.
145  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What can be done to bring these SCAMMERS to justice??? took the BTC and dumped on: May 15, 2017, 03:18:22 AM
I've seen some really bad stuff happen to people for far less than $600k.
I hope these guys are watching their backs.
People tend to get pissed off when you steal their money...
146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: DGB WILL GO TO MOON? on: May 15, 2017, 01:47:03 AM
DGB has been around for almost three years I think? So its not really a pump and dump scheme.

It seems like there is still active development. I don't think anyone is going to become a millionaire buying it right now,
but there might be room to make a little money? I'm definitely going to watch the next few weeks and see if price moves any.

There are way worse coins with way higher prices.
147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ICASH] | DARKSEND | MASTERNODE | POW | NO Premine | No ICO on: May 14, 2017, 02:54:11 PM
Installed. The error still appears. What else can I set, do?

What version of Linux is this?
Check the Boost version
(on Ubuntu I ran command "dpkg -S /usr/include/boost/version.hpp"
and it shows- libboost1.54-dev
To make sure there aren't conflicting installs

otherwise you can open /usr/include/boost/version.hpp in a text editor and you see a line at the end like
#define BOOT_LIB_VERSION "1_54"
)

I am not a Linux expert hoping someone else has some ideas.

Error:

Everything I have read says that the
--with-incompatible-dbd
should be fine.

I still think this has something to do with libboost1.54.
You have the libboost1.54-all-dev package installed?
Maybe there is someone on the Slack channel who can help with this?
I'm definitely interested to help get this solved.

149  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Windows or Linux for Wallet Software? on: May 13, 2017, 10:32:12 PM
You can always do a dual-boot setup and install both Linux/ Windows with a GRUB bootloader etc.

Or a Virtualbox setup installed on Windows for when you want to run a Linux OS.
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/VirtualBox

Personally I think its good to have access to both.
Open source Linux is better but takes more work to set up usually. Definitely worth learning if you are serious about checking code and learning to compile things yourself.
150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: RANSOMWARE impact on: May 13, 2017, 07:58:32 PM
By this logic, we might stop using paper money because there are bad people who use it to buy drugs and guns...

Ransomware brings negative attention to Bitcoin and makes it easy for lazy journalists to write articles talking about 'criminals on the internet'
but will have no real long-term impact.
151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt coins worth buying on: May 13, 2017, 07:51:22 PM
Monero is a stable long-term investment. (IMO)
Its good to hold since the price will probably go up over the next few years.
Slow, steady growth is better anyways.
152  Economy / Reputation / Re: So Lauda is Theymos on: May 13, 2017, 03:43:02 PM
We all know that Theymos is living on a tropical island, swimming through a huge pile of Bitcoins like Scrooge McDuck.

Or is that the 2016 meme? In 2017 Theymos is creating alt-accounts to give negative ratings.
Maybe someone can trace his IP address? But good luck, hes behind 7 proxies...
153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Zcash price will go upto $1000 [Hold your coins] on: May 12, 2017, 08:36:59 PM

 Just for fun though....

what are 5 good imaginary theories in which Zcash COULD go up to $700?

If Zcash hits $700 that means Bitcoin is worth $10k or something.
So maybe in five or ten years from now?

You are compiling the source downloaded from
https://github.com/cryptodev35/icash
or
https://github.com/cryptodev35/icash.git
?

Error is not 100% clear, but it looks like something with libboost1.54 package.
Did you notice any errors when you ran configure?

I think you can do

.\configure >>configureMessage.txt 2>&1

to get both the standard and error messages from configure into a text file and see if it mentions any packages that need to be installed.

155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any advice for altcoin day trading? on: May 12, 2017, 04:03:27 PM
I agree with everything BitWhale said.
Buy when others are selling. Sell when others are buying.
Good advice about ICOs too. Remember that right now EVERYONE is trying to create a coin and get people to pay them to do it.
"Hey we have this really great idea just give us two million dollars so we can make it." ROFL

Read up on new coins. How many developers are working on the project? Do the developers have a previous track record?
How many people are mining the coin? How many exchanges is it on? Has it been added to any new exchanges recently?
Is there an old project that has new developers?
Things like this might be an indicator that the coin will see more interest and a rise in price.
156  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Besides its speculation ,what is the real use of bitcoin ? on: May 12, 2017, 02:06:15 PM
Buying drugs and guns on the internet.
157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Possible Litecoin Malware on: May 12, 2017, 02:04:35 PM
According to FBI statistics, almost 4000 banks are robbed every year in the United States.
I guess we should all stop using banks right?  Roll Eyes
158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ICASH] | DARKSEND | MASTERNODE | POW | NO Premine | No ICO on: May 11, 2017, 06:12:01 PM
Is there a compiled client for Linux?

You need to install some dependencies but I was able to get the wallet working on an Ubuntu 14.04 box in about ten minutes.
No need to actually compile it.
I believe these were all the steps I did:

(Need libboost1.54 installed. Need to update our repository list. First open the sources.list)
#sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list

(Add the following line to the config file-)
deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu trusty main universe

(update our repositories and install libboost1.54)
#sudo apt-get update
#sudo apt-get install libboost1.54-all-dev

(Running icashd throws error message" libdb_cxx-4.8.so cannot open shard object file No such file or directory"
We need the berkeley-db-4.8.30 package
There is a program 'checkinstall' that I found some people talking about on Bitcoin related issues that makes this easy)

#sudo apt-get install checkinstall
#wget http://download.oracle.com/berkeley-db/db-4.8.30.NC.tar.gz
#tar -xzvf db-4.8.30.NC.tar.gz
#cd db-4.8.30.NC/build_unix
#../dist/configure --enable-cxx --prefix=/usr
#make -j8
#sudo checkinstall --fstrans=no --pkgversion=4.8.30 --pgkname=libdb-dev --nodoc -y

(This puts bdb in the system as a Debian package where bitcoin can find it. Note, this only works if you don't already have another version of libbd-dev installed.)

(Running icash-qt throws error message "libqrencode.so.3 cannot open shared object file")
#sudo apt-get install libqrencode3

After these steps I was able to get the Linux gui (icash-qt) client working. Steps may be slightly different if you are using a different Linux type.
If anyone has an easier way to get this working, or has any feedback/ suggestions on my post, please let me know. Hopefully this helps someone! Smiley

159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Present Bargains on: May 11, 2017, 02:08:09 PM
You can still buy HALLOween coin for 3 or 4 Satoshi.
A lot of people don't know that there is a new developer working on the project.
Price could easily double or triple. I think its worth buying at least a small amount.

Is there active develoment in this coin?

New developer took it over and has been working to fix problems.
Coin was listed on another exchange last week:
