141  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 14, 2014, 10:15:58 AM
Stamp is holding up well. Lets just hope there won't be a whale going in panic mode. It takes very little for a massive sell off to occur on stamp atm.

I hope not. Quietly hoping this is the end for Mt.Gox, their behaviour is beyond a joke.

I mean a whale selling on Stamp. Gox can burn in hell as far as i'm concerned.

Definitely agree on both counts there.

Currently, what is the best way to acquire or sell coins from in Australia?

Coinjar.io, BTCMarkets and WeExchange are the main local exchanges. Have used Coinjar to acquire BTC, but BTCMarkets and WeExchange give you the option to also acquire Litecoins. You need to provide ID for all of them, as you would with Mt.Gox et al, but I suspect they would be less likely to be targeted by DDOS attacks compared to Gox and co.

So what is everyone mining right now?

I am mining some MicroCoin at the moment because I find the coin has potential.

A newly setup rig for a friend is test-mining Yacoin on some low end cards until the six GTX 660Ti cards arrive.

Christian

I'm trying my hand at Earthcoin, though occasionally pointing my GPU at hashco.ws to try and get some BTC via the auto-trade mechanism they have in place.

http://www.australianbitcoinatms.com.au/ Apparently, they will involve the use of biometrics and scanned IDs as security measures. Bit mixed about the ID part, but I guess that given you can buy BTCs at the ATM, perhaps it might be a regulatory requirement.

They'll be installing at least one in Perth and Brisbane next month, not sure about Adelaide. Guess Hobart, Darwin and Canberra would follow after that, and maybe some other places like Newcastle and Cairns.

Sent a donation last night of 0.125LTC to you Christian, in case you were wondering who it was. Thought it was only fair given I've been using the software for about nearly a year now.
148  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Earthcoin so undervalued? on: February 10, 2014, 05:19:29 PM
I've just stopped mining LTC and focusing on this now with my GPU. Can see some potential in it, so I'm willing to mine some while it's still a bit quiet and take a risk on it potentially rocketing down the track, as I've got ASIC hardware working away on BTC and soon to switch that to PPC, so I'm not overly invested in EAC. The marketplace and so on should really help, not too many other coins seem to try and do this (i.e. 99% of the pump-and-dumps and novelty coins kicking about).

Lol at every sigle moron not listing Doge as first. Biggest community and quickly growing, biggest transaction volume, media attention everywhere. Get real. If you arent buying cheap sub200 DOGE you are a certified moron. Making all these posts so I can come back a year from now and say, I TOLD YOU.

Still an overblown flash-in-the-pan based on a soon-to-be-irrelevant meme.

Going to be pointing my miners at PPC once I've managed to get enough to cash out my Slush's Pool account. Looks to be a far more profitable approach at this point.

Tried the new version with autotune and got better results this time. Compared to 195kH/s on the previous version with custom settings, the new version is giving me an maximum of around 217kH/s for my GTX660, with about 215kH/s averaged so far. Worth the wait, IMO. Cheesy Instead of K10x16 with the last version, the new one is giving me better results with K10x28.
153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you own any altcoins? Why? what for? on: January 12, 2014, 01:46:42 AM
I own a fair amount of Peercoins. Mainly because I can see energy consumption becoming an issue for some down the track, therefore the concept of Proof of Stake satisfies that for me, as well as providing an incentive for long-term savings. It is also less prone to fluctuating according to the price of BTC changing, compared to the rest of the 99 million alts out there which crumble when BTC dives sharply. Some people do whinge about the centralised checkpointing, but that was only put in place initially when ASIC attacks were a greater threat to all SHA-256 coins than they are now, and it is planned to be removed in the near future according to the dev, Sunny King.

Plus, the whole "don't put all your eggs in one basket" approach applies here, IMO. Would be silly to just solely stick with BTC as the sole choice of cryptocurrency, as you'd up a creek with a paddle, particularly in light of dramas like the recent ghash.io approaching 50% network hashrate situation and so forth.

its worrying they get so big, freaking PPC might take over we cant let that happen

Peercoin to the moon! Grin
156  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ghash.io reached 45% on: January 10, 2014, 05:27:21 PM
Since they're already getting close to 51% (let's face it 45% is pretty dang close), I would like to see them implement the feature of choosing your pool. If you purchase Gigahashes, and you really own them, you would think this would be an available option...

Just curious when they plan on allowing users to choose their own pool? When they reach 50.9% of hashing power?

Don't know, but if I were them, I'd probably try and hurry up the process ASAP.
157  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ghash.io has voluntary to suspend parts of service! on: January 10, 2014, 05:24:50 PM

We will implement a feature, allowing CEX.IO users to mine bitcoins from
other pools. So when they purchase GH/s they can put it towards any pool
they choose.

This does not solve the problem, it only hides it, which is even worse.  Angry

Right, so an option to reduce the pool hashrate to directing the hardware at another pool at the hardware owners discretion doesn't solve the problem? That's an interesting train of thought.

Personally, I'm surprised some of the other major pools didn't think of doing what CEX.io did earlier in terms of hosting hardware and allowing some to purchase shares in them. I mean, FFS, you'd think some of them would've noticed this earlier and gone "Hey, that seems like a good idea!" and implemented similar features in order to get more people involved with their own pools and help to limit the risk of a single pool having 51% or greater hashing of the entire network.

I seriously question the lack of foresight and initiative amongst the Bitcoin collective at times, I really do.
158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: LOOOONG Term Mining on: January 10, 2014, 10:55:12 AM
Hashco.ws is another.
159  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ghash.io reached 45% on: January 09, 2014, 08:08:57 PM
They did mention an option they're planning to implement to allow for mining hardware to be directed to other pools. Might use that to finish up mining with Slush's pool and then either go back to them or point them at something else like a Peercoin mining pool instead.

Let's face it, CEX.io and Cloudhashing.com have made mining a bit more accessible for those who don't want to jump through all the hoops of buying and setting up ASICs and FPGAs and end up worrying about software crashes or power consumption. In other words, it's the free market at hand.
160  Economy / Speculation / Re: The FBI will NOT be able to sell the coins on: January 08, 2014, 05:41:55 PM
They'll probably be auctioned off to the highest bidder, bit like when governments dispose of equipment through auctioneers. Might even end up causing a price spike and become collectors Bitcoins ("Genuine DPR Bitcoins, limited collection!" Tongue )
