What he is referring to is a misrepresentation and presented as a quote throughout his posts, when it is not a true quote at all. I only present this here because his quote is false - not to engage in destructive arguments. Here is what was actually said: While I understand that you may feel 10% is too high a rate, as someone who has funded a lot of development work over the past 5 years, I disagree with your assessment. At a 10% subsidy rate, the dev organization will accumulate approximately 302,000 decred during its first year. If we assume the value of 1 decred averages to USD 1.00 over the first year, this means we'll have USD 302K to spend on development work. This is a small amount of funding and can pay for 3-4 full time developers for 1 year, so if we went below 10% dev subsidy it would mean the project cannot fund itself unless its exchange rate is well over USD 1.00 per decred.
The 4% of the premine was paid for in USD, BTC and labor by Company 0 and its developers. Unlike other projects, we did not push the risk of failure onto the community by asking them to fund the work. We have made an effort to lead with our deliverables in a niche where there is lots of vaporware and questionable offerings. As our btcsuite work shows, this work has been going on for years, even without any funding except from me.
What is presented here is a scenario with a dev subsidy of 10%, as it is now, and a hypothetical value of USD 1.00 per decred, under which the project can pay for 3-4 full-time developers. He said if the subsidy was lower than 10%, which it is not, problems could occur in funding development work in a sustainable way. If you read it, that's what it explains. |

Decred could've easily stated that they'll do their best to make sure that folks aren't gaming the system via participation in the airdrop for a limited 5,000 participants. But, Decred opted to up the ante after being approached with how the system could easily be gamed (by me - NO OTHERS to date), whereupon they responded with having layers of defense mechanisms in place to ward off said gaming. It was after such exchange, of which was after most have already applied for the airdrop, thus freeing up their personnel to conduct a more fuller investigatory process on my scammy ass, that I signed up to test their layers, passing with flying colors, opting to sign up over a dozen more times. supplying Decred with ONLY newly created email addresses, with all that I've checked also passing muster, each having a unique "Confirmation link" within, in essence gaming the system in the same way I warned Decred about in which they offered up how the concern is moot given...
You ignored this post by me soon after your initial concerns. I offered to investigate for you and help you. You ignored my request to look into it, but the offer still stands. I did this a day after the airdrop closed when there was still a mountain of work to get through. I'm going to be straight with you Gleb, there is no time for games. If you want to be constructive, I am your friend and I will help you make the system better, but if you don't want to work together, there is nothing that can be done. You are welcome here, as always, and people will work with you, but you must be reasonable and engage requests when the hand is extended to you - you cannot ignore such acts. |

what will happen to those that won't complete the coin request? I mean their coin will be burned or will be distributed among the others?
The coins go to the submitted addresses. That list is made final on Monday and addresses in that list get airdrop. |

The number of airdrop participants isn't that important, because after requesting the airdrop people had to create their address and confirm their request until 25th. I guess, a few claimers will fall out at this phase so, imo on monday, tuesday we'll get the final numbers
That is correct. Time must be made for those that haven't completed the process yet. There are many reasons why some people haven't completed yet, and sadly, some of them won't make it over the line. That is an unfortunate reality - but the best that can be done, in the interest of fairness, is to wait for them so they too have some time to get there. The final date for completion is Monday (01/25/16). Having said that, the numbers are good. That will be released next week for sure. Not so many participants that everyone only gets a little bit, but also not so few participants that everyone gets so much that those who missed out will feel sad about it in the future. It's a great equilibrium, and that will be reflected. Everyone can feel good about working at this and informing others about the project. I am confident that if we keep our focus on inclusivity and being constructive in our interactions with each other, we are at the cusp of beginning something great. The focus from those actively working on it is certainly that. |

I never posted here or elsewhere and never heard of an airdrop and I'm not interested in it.
So I assume this _ingsoc is a scammer ?!

I'm sending reminders to people who haven't completed the confirmation process yet. If you have not signed up for the Decred airdrop, it means someone has tried to impersonate you. If I get more responses from people who have no idea about signing up (and haven't forgotten that they did at some point), they will be removed from the airdrop db. A spot will free up and you can take it if you want. I would encourage you to take their place if the project appeals to you - they clearly singled you out for whatever reason. If you are pissed off, I apologise, but I am only going by what people have submitted. |

I have 2 questions regarding airdrop as it is obviously the hot topic:
1. Is is confirmed how many applicants are finalized and who will recieve airdrop?
2. I have my confirm id and transaction so will the coins be automatically sent to that address or what is the process to recieve the coins?
(1) No, it is not confirmed. The last batch went out yesterday (01/18/16 03:00 PM CST). Those participants will all need adequate and fair time to complete the process and seek help if they require it. So once there is a final date for when all addresses need to be in the system, the final numbers can be confirmed and released as general statistical information about participation - this will be soon, time is of the essence now. (2) The address you submitted to the confirmation page is where the coins will go. Make sure this address is correct by using dcraddrgen to verify the seed you saved as you will import that seed into a wallet later on and access the coins. If you lose the seed, you will not be able to recover the coins. |

Those instructions are not recommended for you unless you're comfortable with inspecting and working with source code. A user (zero) was kind enough to post detailed instructions for Windows users which you can find here. If you have trouble, please post your error in detail in that thread and people will help you complete the process. |

I'm still curious as to how I was able to bypass the screening that was assured to be in place AFTER I brought it to attention that folks could game the system. There is no way in hell I should've been able to get an invite with supplying an email address alone.

Sound like mainnet will be released january 25, that's why after this date you can't confirm address causfirst block will be minted.
There is no mainnet launch date yet. All dates have been tentative and are calibrated with technical development and the level of airdrop activity. The latter is coming to a close, and the next milestone is public testnet and miner binaries (and miner specifications). Testnet will run for a week and then mainnet will be launched - assuming no issues, which would require further calibration. So it's moving. |

How long until it's too late to get confirmed? After you have made the first block with all the addresses in I assume it will be too late, and the coin will be fully launched. Will that be in a matter of days, or weeks? I'm eager to see Decred completed and on exchanges.
It's important to give the last batch enough time to get confirmed - as much time as possible, so it looks like the final date to confirm an invitation by generating an address and submitting it will be Jan 25th. There will be reminders sent to earlier batches that haven't completed yet this week as well. Every effort will be made to get everyone sorted right up until that date, but it's important to move on it as soon as you get it. Time is not our friend, unfortunately. |

Time is of the essence in getting confirmed as soon as you receive an invitation. Good news is that airdrop was open till last second. So, 5k cap wasn't reached. This means everyone will receive more then 168 decred.
People will need adequate time to get confirmed, so the numbers will be published as soon as people from the latest batch are confirmed and have generated addresses. |

Looks like I didn't cut it for the airdrop, which I understand given my limited activity around here.  Anyhow stopping by to wish the project good luck, and I'll no doubt get my little pickaxe out once this launches so that I can get my hands on some, and will look forward to participating further. It's been a very long time since I last got excited about something new in cryptoland, and I really like how things are shaping up for Decred. Please send me a PM on here or on the forum, so I can check what's going on for you. I encourage others to do the same if they think they didn't make the cut somehow. The OP says launch is the 18th of Jan.
That will be fixed. Thank you pointing it out and sorry for not clarifying explicitly in the thread. It's left as is for now, but once the airdrop is sorted, an assessment will be made about exactly where things are development-wise. Things are looking good, but Jan 18th is obviously unrealistic considering there will be testnet and miner binaries released one week prior to mainnet launch. Delays suck, but stability and testing take priority - goes without saying. |
