I woke up this morning and saw this when i checked yahoo. Week = made

http://news.yahoo.com/bitcoin-exchange-mt-gox-39-website-down-053727771--sector.html

I'm confused. You are certain Bitcoin is doomed to fail on a soon timeline (as opposed to the obvious infinite timeline) yet when the best news for Bitcoin since its' inception is announced your week was made?

The sooner Gox goes under the quicker Bitcoin can and will bounce back. It's really just doing damage existing as it is at the moment.

Wolf of Wall Street is a great movie, it's quite long but it's 3 hours of fun Cheesy

I'm gonna get around to watching that. Enjoy me a bit of Leo (no homo).

Saw this today and it made me laugh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-y1N29vH2Y

14044  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gox Report stating it is 50% solvent? Thoughts? on: February 25, 2014, 07:36:07 PM
I think that the report is probably fake, but also that they are probably much less then 50% solvent.  For them to have to shut down fiat and btc withdrawals their solvency must have been running on vapors.

Yeah, people really need to wait for some concrete / confirmed info before commenting on this stuff. There's a lot of misinformation and speculation about, but I'm sure all will be revealed shortly.
14045  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gox.com could come back if it was insured on: February 25, 2014, 07:32:27 PM
How do you know they're not insured? Surely they'll have to have some kind of insurance to even run a business like this? I also very much doubt people will trust Mark with anything Bitcoin related again.

Even if they did, and I'd doubt the judgment of anyone who would insure a fly by night operation like Gox, I seriously doubt they'll pay out on a loss of, supposedly, $409 million when that loss resulted from the willful and possibly criminal actions of the insured.

I wouldn't really call Gox a 'fly by night operation', but as insurance companies tend to do, they always try wrangle out of big payments. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens if they do go under and how much their debts and assets are valued at, especially with the fluctuations in value of Bitcoin.

SecondMarket’s Barry Silbert to Launch Regulated US Exchange this Summer

@ hilariousandco

wrote that on my phone  Smiley

Iphone? It gets me every time I try to post from there and it's pain to go back and edit.

I've got a feeling something will hold this exchange back, or it'll be throttled by regulations. Hadn't NY already brought in some strict rules regarding Bitcoin?
14047  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Dear MtGox Customers..... on: February 25, 2014, 07:21:03 PM
What do you think: Is this the end of the Cryptocurrency or a new beginning???

I think it's a good thing for the future of Cryptocurrency! Something that was not sustainable collapsed... We hope that these "Individuals"  will not destroy the Bitcoins....

Why would an exchange, especially one as bad as gox, going down be the end of Cryptocurrency? Bitcoin will probably be stronger once gox goes out of the picture.
14048  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gox.com could come back if it was insured on: February 25, 2014, 07:15:09 PM
Like that wallet backed by loyds of london.  There's still a chance MtGox still has everyone's money or 90% of it.  They probably didn't have enough time to re-write their software, so they stopped all transactions.  Coming back insured by a company like lloyds of london is probably the only way anyone would ever use them again.

Now I know nothing of what's going on and I wouldn't put money on this, but I'm trying to figure out why they bought Gox.com

How do you know they're not insured? Surely they'll have to have some kind of insurance to even run a business like this? I also very much doubt people will trust Mark with anything Bitcoin related again.
14049  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: DONT LET MARK KARPÈLES LEAVE THE COUNTRY! on: February 25, 2014, 07:13:38 PM

What further steps must be taken in order to convince authorities to flag his passport, issue an arrest warrant, etc.?

Im not calling for a witch hunt here! Mark as well as anyone enjoys the right to remain innocent until proven guilty. But in order to determine that, we have to make sure that all prerequisits are taken to proof his innocence, in other words: to further a trial to get some answers.

You kinda are calling for a witch hunt here. He hasn't even commited a crime yet, has he? Well, apart from running a shoddy business. Mark also doesn't seem like the type of guy to just go on the run either.

Another community maintained list with a bit more info can be found here:

It can't be that well maintained if John (John K.) is number 1 on there currently. The other trusted escrow list should be updated too really.
14051  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin raffle. on: February 25, 2014, 07:00:35 PM
First 20 users to purchase any amount of tickets receives an extra ticket for free.

Are you aiming to make money, or are you going to pay the raffle prize out of your own funds, because if you give free tickets away this is unlikely?
There is not a pre determined amount of tickets so it cost's me nothing the pay out is the same whether I receive the amount I am giving away for this raffle. They have to purchase a ticket in order to receive a ticket so technically it is not giving them away.
I pay out 0.09 regardless if that amount of tickets is purchased or not.

You're still giving out free tickets, and I doubt you'll sell enough tickets to break even though. So you'll still pay out if you only sell a few tickets at a loss?
Yes that's why it's for only 0.09 that way I can afford to pay out even if I don't get that amount. There is no reason why I shouldn't I mean I guess there is a lack of trust with everything I guess the real question would be this what kind of retard would set something like this up with the hope of ripping people off when they could make more by being honest? I got someone from work interested and they are going to buy a ticket so if he is the only one that buys a ticket I guess he wins.

I'm not saying you're going to scam, but I assume you want to make money from this, right?
14052  Other / Meta / Re: Ponzi world taking over gambling section on: February 25, 2014, 06:53:12 PM

Barker notes that he was wearing a Bitcoin not Bombs hoodie which had a picture of a B17 bomber dropping Bitcoin. The hoodie did not have the phrase “Bitcoin” on it; only the image of the coins.

That was his mistake there.

No it wasn't a bomb misunderstanding. Read the whole article.

I did:

It is quite evident from the encounter Barker experienced that the TSA is obviously looking out for Bitcoin. However, it also seems obvious that currently the TSA is not trained so well in what Bitcoin is. It also appears that they are targeting people who have a Bitcoin logo on their person or their belongings. Barker has shared his story in hopes to warn other Bitcoin users to be careful when traveling, especially if internationally.

Finally!!! Now the next news i wanna hear is "MtGox Throws in The Towel And Goes Bankrupt"!!!

That's probably not what the people who have their coins stuck in there want though  Grin.

Mt.Gox has been going downhill since the beginning of this month. What was explained to be only a technical issue, soon evolved into something that many were not expecting.

Only beginning of this month? It's been on its way out for as far back as I remember.
14056  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who should be BTC Foundation's Replacement for Karpeles on: February 25, 2014, 06:14:58 PM
Wait, is the Bitcoin forum?

Well, shit, and here I thought I was posting this discussion about bitcoin leadership on a cooking forum.
Bitcoin Foundation is a private club that has its own forum. That's the right place for them to discuss their internal club affairs.

Anyone can view it though. I don't know if there's any hidden boards or not though.
14057  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is buying BTC from funds in a UK bank account illegal? on: February 25, 2014, 06:08:54 PM
Hi
Just wondering if anyone knows if buying BTC via bittylicious (with funds from a UK bank account) likely to get me account shut down? I saw someone on another thread saying that HSBC had said any trades in BTC would see their account closed? Dont know if this applies to buying through Bittylicious?

Thanks!

I think that's usually for profits from selling Bitcoins that might get you shut down. Buying should be fine. If you want to buy from Bittylicious without using a bank you can go through zip-zap and pay with cash at a lot of convenience stores or post offices etc.
14058  Other / Off-topic / Re: Movie Recommendation Station on: February 25, 2014, 05:52:36 PM
RoboCop the movie.......... Really nice!

Only the original, unfortunately... Wink

He's a spambot, but have you seen the new one yet?

Yup. It's not baaaad, but I still don't why the studio felt it was relevant to make.

This made me laugh (NSFW): https://vimeo.com/86014703

Haha. Those exploding schlongs look pretty realistic. Have you seen the full thing?

Nope, but if it's anything like this but full-length... I'm so down! I'd watch that over the remake any day!

I just downloaded the Our RoboCop Remake haha. No idea when I'll get around to watching it though.

14060  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: We're All Early Adopters Again! on: February 25, 2014, 05:49:19 PM
Gox is not the only exchange. If and when it bites the dust I don't think it'll be bad, just people will probably flock to other exchanges and start buying more coins there which will gradually pull the price back up.
