1441  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Elizabeth Warren wants the police at your door in 2024 on: April 27, 2023, 03:08:26 AM
I know there are really really bad politicians out there with malicious intent, but I think this is one of those cases that it's just simply ignorance. Even I personally back then couldn't immediately grasp the concept of non-custodial money. We've simply just been so accustomed to custodial everything that custodial services is pretty much the norm.

^And we all know how stupid politicians can be a lot of times.
1442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We must fight back SEC, from Ripple to Coinbase on: April 26, 2023, 09:10:58 PM
I think that cheering blindly for one side or the other might not yield the best results for all parties involved. Yes, we are frustrated with regulatory bodies like the SEC but their role is to protect investors and maintain fairness in the market as well although some argue that the actions of the SEC stifle innovation in the crypto space.

It's not even 'arguable', it's a damn well-known fact for a while now that the SEC is doing a dogshit job of actually protecting people — assuming protecting people was their intention in the first place.
1443  Economy / Reputation / Re: I doubt it - But is it too bad to ask you to review some of my posts? on: April 26, 2023, 06:39:43 AM
Also, if you're a high-ranking member such as yourself you probably don't want to be starting up threads like this.  It just doesn't feel right IMO.

Lol this — without opening the thread yet, I expected someone with like 900 activity with 10 merits.

Advice to OP: just focus on better quality regardless how good/bad you're doing right now. Far better to be trying to improve yourself harder than keeping on wondering why not much people are giving you points based on your current post quality!
1444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We must fight back SEC, from Ripple to Coinbase on: April 26, 2023, 06:27:53 AM
Like or hate (sometimes deservedly so) Coinbase or centralized exchanges in general, but this is one of those instances where I'll root for them. Not necessarily because I like Coinbase, but mostly because fuck the SEC.
1445  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: ETH Faucets on: April 26, 2023, 03:49:49 AM
Ethereum fees have been quite high(and sometimes abysmally high) for quite a while now that faucets are pretty much pointless.

But even if ETH faucets still existed, trust me when I say that there are better ways of earning money out there.

Philippine government and getting hacked — name a better combination.

1447  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Electrum not opening on: April 25, 2023, 06:38:43 PM
Have you tried the portable version? Since that version of Electrum doesn't need any installing at all. I assume a device restart would be a quick fix for this Electrum version.
1448  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Block reward halving countdown websites for Proof of Work altcoins on: April 25, 2023, 07:25:08 AM
With Proof of Work, no risk to see developers to mint new supply by a key board touch.

Take note that this only applies to Bitcoin and a few amply-decentralized altcoins. 99% of other altcoins that use proof of work or whatever consensus algorithm has risks of being altered simply due to the fact that 99% of other altcoins are very very centralized.
1449  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin could hit $100,000 by the end of 2024 - Standard Chartered - Surprised? on: April 25, 2023, 07:13:44 AM
I found it amazing that major banking is also hyping Bitcoin and seeing that prediction makes me feel like I'm doing the right decision to obtain more and more of BTC. I hope that everyone would be able to go along and see the real value of BTC and increase the chances of reaching it earlier.

I'm curious as to "What changed?" or Why do the major banks predict this kind of thing?

Nothing. Nothing changed. People from certain banks or any financial service (or just people with some influence in general) just likes to flip flop their opinions on Bitcoin/crypto depending on their agenda or just because they want their names to appear on news sites.
1450  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone with UK Tax experience? on: April 25, 2023, 06:48:06 AM
Probably not the answer you're looking for, but seriously — just hire a personal bookkeeper. All the time to stress out on your taxes could be used to do something more time-worthy; something that could probably earn you more money instead.

^Not sure how much it would cost you to hire one in the UK, but I'll bet it's worth it in most countries.
1451  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin could hit $100,000 by the end of 2024 - Standard Chartered - Surprised? on: April 25, 2023, 06:37:21 AM
They keyword here is: could

bitcoin could hit $100,000
bitcoin could hit $10,000
bitcoin could hit $1,000,000
bitcoin could hit $100

Could just means that there's a (albeit non-zero) possibility — not necessarily that it will happen.
1452  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Little Bitcoin investment becoming something else on: April 25, 2023, 02:48:59 AM
I missed selling at $31k since I was thinking it will gets to 40k but the market keep scaring me and you know emotion is being attached to this so I have to run down here to seek the best opinion on what to do comparing my condition as young mother who needs money for my up keep, since i don't like bothering my husband for money so i believe i can make out something good from here.

This here is proof that no one knows how the markets will move in the short term. If you think bitcoin is actually a good investment, why sell so soon? You're pretty much trading here, not investing.

Also, if you have to sell your bitcoin for your upkeep, then you're probably overinvesting. Always have fiat money ready for your personal spending, and some ready for a rainy day.
1453  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why trading Crypto (instead of Forex) on: April 25, 2023, 02:35:46 AM
Sometimes, data isn't necessarily an advantage if everyone has access to the same data. Advantages arise when you have certain good metrics/data base your decisions upon that not everyone follows.
1454  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Why Coinbase & Binance does not support Bitcoin LN? on: April 24, 2023, 07:23:52 PM
But if you're a pioneer in the field of decentralization and a leader in the world of crypto and you aim for all those bla bla bla things CZ brags about it when he goes full peacock mode he should have at least tried, right?  If not deposits at least offer withdrawals via LN, it would have been easier for Binance and it would have been enough for a test to see demand. And even if we talk volume and usage, if you still list  600+ rank coin that does under 1 million in wash trading and you still go through the effort of offering deposits and withdrawals for it, which at that volume I'm pretty sure are under 1 BTC a day you could offer LN also, and even if the numbers won't be spectacular for sure they would top at least one-quarter of those useless bitcoins traded there.

Also, the prosecution would like to ask the devil's advocate why are Segwit withdrawals more expensive than legacy ones?

Because I don't think he was necessarily a hardcore pioneer for decentralization. You can be for decentralization but at the same time not immediately cater for what the Bitcoin-ethusiast community wants. It's the simple fact that the normie community prefers cheap-tx altcoins whether we like it or not.
1455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does this Rule Apply to Institutional Investors? on: April 23, 2023, 05:22:32 PM
The "don't loan money to buy bitcoin" thing is really geared towards like 95% of people — which are retail investors. In the first place — if you're an institutional investor(or at the very least, a very savvy retail investor), you wouldn't be asking for advice online.

If you truly know what you're doing, then by all means go get a loan for investing. But then again, a huge majority of people actually don't know what they're doing but instead just think they do because of ignorance.
1456  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Why Coinbase & Binance does not support Bitcoin LN? on: April 23, 2023, 04:23:36 PM
I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say that maybe it's because LN-related deposits/withdrawals simply doesn't have that much demand as of yet. Whether we like it or not, the crypto normie world barely uses LN, it's mostly the Bitcoin enthusiasts that are using LN as of today — in which the actual Bitcoin enthusiasts are only a very small percentage of total crypto exchange usage.

1458  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mixing techniques on: April 23, 2023, 03:59:13 PM
Chipmixer was good, but my understanding is that they were still using pre-made coins (chips) to mix.

The "chips" aren't necessarily a separate asset that ChipMixer sort of printed out of thin air. Those "chips" are pretty much just separate batches(think of this like a cargo container) of bitcoin that are also collected from other users than plan on moxing.
1459  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Technical indicators vs the News on: April 23, 2023, 05:37:37 AM
That's because technical indicators doesn't necessarily cause price increases/drops like how news does; technical indicators can just give you a very small advantageous  bump in odds on what could likely happen more based on past performance.
1460  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: 2023 | Bitcoin Conference on: April 23, 2023, 04:49:24 AM
Is it possible that this event will have a positive impact on Bitcoin's future journey?

I mean — what are the chances that such an event would be a net-negative for Bitcoin's future? Unless a bomb goes off and kills a good number of important people in this space, then near-zero? Of course it'll very likely have a positive impact.
