1461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Inflation may have driven me to this, bitcoin has the power to reverse it on: April 27, 2023, 10:01:08 AM
You are not saying what type of investments you had for the last 15 years, so I presume that you saved that money in a Bank? We all know that Banks give us low risk and low profit, so it is not the best investment option that you can take.

I like to have a balanced portfolio, with some money invested in low risk investments like Banks and some medium risk investments in property rentals.. but a large portion of my investments are into Crypto, because it has the potential to generate huge inflation busting profits.  Wink
1462  Economy / Economics / Re: John Oliver - carving the old wounds of Crypto - Calls it Fiasco! on: April 26, 2023, 06:01:12 AM
Let's not forget that John Oliver are a comedian and a actor.... so their main goal is to find content that are controversial. Bitcoin and Crypto currencies are one of those topics that can be exploited to push a lot of buttons and get the most reaction from viewers.

These people thrive when they can pick people and technologies apart for their own gain. So yes, Bitcoin and Crypto currencies are a easy target for them and there are a lot of scams and shitcoins that are giving them a lot of content.  Roll Eyes
1463  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Politicians behind the development of gambling platform on: April 26, 2023, 05:49:12 AM
The solution will be for all politicians to declare the donations or funding of their campaigns. This should be enforced and total transparency should be applied to make sure that things like this does not happen.

The problem is this... the politicians make the laws and they protect their own interests. So you should vote for politicians that can change the laws to protect the people. (This is not easy .... because most politicians are corrupt)  Tongue
1464  Economy / Gambling / Re: Stake.com - The Leading Crypto Casino - 🦉 Drake, UFC, Everton Main Partner ⚽ 🥊 on: April 26, 2023, 05:43:09 AM
I saw the super rain yesterday from  diamond player maybe the biggest rain I have ever seen, are you guys one of them?  Cheesy
Surely I am not one of them but hoping for the next it is my turn  Grin By the way, if you are Stake.us user you can claim this code easyclaim123
This is a special code that was shared when Eddie live a few hours ago.

like the heavy rain that many people have been waiting for. but unfortunately I'm not one of them because I almost never enter the Stake chatroom on the grounds that it takes up too much of my time because chatting with people I don't know really makes it difficult for me.

maybe you have a chance to be the lucky one in the next rain but it's a bit difficult. because so many Stake customers now and only luck can you wait.
These types of rain may happen to a known person and/or well-known person whether on the internet or on physically. If you can't make any good relationship with a user who won a big amount then there is a low chance to be a winner like this. And if the user is unknown yet you may get the tips if you are the nearest user of the rain.

I think people are going to see a lot less people doing rains or tips, with the changes to the system. In the past, you just typed /tip @user and you set the amount, but now you have to do 2FA to do it... and I think all the extra hassles are just too much effort for people.

Do you guys still remember the days when people "rain spammed" the chat..... well it cannot be done so rapidly anymore. My biggest rain was $200..... and it was years ago, when there were a lot less people active on Stake. (The large number of active people on Stake now, also reduce your chances to catch it)
1465  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I am only trying to stay safe by gambling less on: April 26, 2023, 05:34:18 AM
We should not care about the silly arguments that are made about Bitcoin, but we do... right. In any way..... there are a huge difference between trading and investing in speculative investments and pushing your money into a Slot machine, hoping to get a win.

It is as you said.... if you ask the majority of gamblers to show their balance sheet, they will be in the red, because gambling goes with losses....but ask a Bitcoin owner to show his balance sheet, then you will find that most of them are in the green. (Simply owning Bitcoin, shows something positive on your books)  Wink
1466  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin overshadowed by economic lie on: April 26, 2023, 05:25:36 AM
They can spread misinformation, because they have control over mass media platforms and there are nobody concentrating on spreading the correct information. Do you see billboards saying "Bitcoin is not a scam" or educational programs on television to educate people on the facts?

No, we do not have centralized organizations stepping in to fund campaigns like this, so people listen to what mainstream media are saying. Where are all the companies that are making millions from Crypto currencies? Do they really care about the technology or do they care about the profits.
1467  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-03-15] Forbes - How Africans Are Using Bitcoin Without Internet Access on: April 25, 2023, 06:13:37 AM
The moment when you are going through some centralized cellphone service provider, it is not decentralized anymore.... right?

The idea is to just replace (also centralised) Internet Service Providers with mobile phones service providers. This doesn't have much to do with (de)centralisation of Bitcoin network. The main concern is whether the app itself (Machankura) has control over your funds or not.

I work part-time in Africa on contract basis and I know first hand how challenging their Internet can be, but they have Internet Cafe's there with WIFI that people are using. One thing I can say..... they are very innovative with their solutions.  Grin

As the old proverb says: necessity is the mother of invention.

I reckon much of everyone in the community underestimates how much centralisation there is in bitcoin's decentralised sphere including development. Similar to what you mentioned, internet service providers are centralised. The same centralized internet providers that give everyone access to Github, also a centralised platform. The creators of the hardware where everything is hosted is a centralisation risk.

However, nothing is perfectly decentralised and about this is bad, I reckon.

You make a very valid point, but it does not mean that we should develop and support more initiatives that increase centralization. The Bitcoin developers created the Lightning Network and I think the next phase of that project, should be to make it efficient and simple enough to run it on any platform.

Africa are flooded with old discarded technologies (older model phones) ....so developers should target that market with new innovation. They are currently developing for 1st world markets, where there are fast bandwidth and smart phones..... so it is just a mind shift that has to take place.. for them to do that. (Developers in India are doing very good work to target 3rd world countries)
1468  Economy / Gambling / Re: A reminder for gamblers to avoid FortuneJack (ongoing lawsuit, 120k usd stolen) on: April 25, 2023, 05:52:52 AM
FortuneJack has been around for many years, so it is strange that these things are only being reported now. I have used Google to see if there are a lot of scam accusations against them, but there are not significant complaints to justify a "scam" label.  Huh

You are not really giving a lot of information on the lawsuit, so I cannot judge this scenario ...based on the evidence that are being provided. Do you think a long lawsuit will cost you more than the money that are owned to you?
1469  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I will never own a whole Bitcoin and that's okay on: April 25, 2023, 05:38:40 AM
Well, I am here to give you some hope. First of all... the idea was never for everyone to hold one Bitcoin, that is just a pipe dream for many people. You should collect as much as you can and then hoard it, if you are planning to use it as an investment option.

So when I started out, the Bitcoin price was around $300 to $400 ....and to be honest, I did not have enough money to buy a lot of coins. I bought small amounts every time the price dropped and then sold them when the price spiked.... and doing that continuously... until I had enough money to buy a few coins.

I eventually collected enough to buy a few coins and then sold them for a massive profit at $5000 and then at $18 000 and once again at $55 000.  Wink
1470  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Little Bitcoin investment becoming something else on: April 25, 2023, 05:30:32 AM
I know it might be difficult, but you should really try to remove all emotions from decisions linked to your Bitcoin ownership. Your bitcoins should be forgotten, until the Bitcoin price reach the point where you want to take profit.

I had several friends that sold their bitcoins at a loss, because they were to fixated on the price. Do not look at the price every day, because it will constantly trigger emotions to tempt you into selling it.  Roll Eyes
1471  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: derBowler's project: using Bitcoin to help Ukrainians on: April 24, 2023, 06:14:48 AM
Well, one of the advantages of using a method like this, is pseudo anonymity. We know a psychological war are also being fought behind the scenes, with Russian hackers being used to gather information. Bitcoin can help to hide donators real identities and to keep them safe.

Just imagine a scenario where a well-known CEO of a large global company are targeted, if it becomes clear that he or she donated to support the Ukrainians. The hackers will target the company and bring it to it's knees, so that is why pseudo anonymity are so important in cases like this.  Sad
1472  Economy / Economics / Re: Living ones life on assumption and promises on: April 24, 2023, 06:04:25 AM
There is this old saying that says, "Do not count your chickens, before they have hatched" and this is specifically suitable to you, because you are in the agricultural field, so you should be familiar with that concept.  Wink

You cannot rely on people's promises.... they are very unpredictable, so to start something ..without having the actual money in hand... would be very reckless. I hope you learnt a very good lesson from this, but I still hope your financing come through for your project.

Good Luck....
1473  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: There are many advantages to the relationship between gambling and Bitcoin. on: April 24, 2023, 05:43:56 AM
I do not know if there are actually any of the advantages that you are talking about. Most of the casinos ask for KYC details...so that destroys all pseudo anonymity that Crypto currencies supported.

People could care less about decentralization....and most casinos are not decentralized, so I doubt if that has any advantages for the gamblers. The casinos that are decentralized are scarce and a lot of them are illegal, so I do not use them.  Undecided
1474  Economy / Gambling / Re: Brokerstorm - Betting Broker | All cryptocurrencies accepted on: April 24, 2023, 05:31:17 AM
Wow, this site needs a lot of attention... it is very basic and I know there are incredible developers in India, so I doubt if this was done professionally. I do not know if this was a old Fiat based site that just added Crypto currencies.. or if this was a newly designed Crypto gambling site.  Roll Eyes

I hope the .net site are not a phishing site... so please be careful not navigating there and losing all your money. Also, check out the complaints about this site... just google Brokerstorm + complaints.  Roll Eyes
1475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why does Bitcoiner still support the use of centralized exchanges? on: April 24, 2023, 05:18:05 AM
The answer is simple : Not all "Bitcoiners" support the technology because they want decentralization. A large group of people are just speculators and they use Bitcoin as an investment option, so they need a fast and convenient way to buy and sell bitcoins... and centralized exchanges offer that to them.

Bitcoin is for everyone..... the traders and speculators and also for the hardcore supporters of decentralized technologies. We do not force people to use Bitcoin in one specific manner...  Tongue
1476  Economy / Economics / Re: it's so risky! on: April 23, 2023, 07:04:03 PM
You should never invest 80% of your wealth into any single investment option, no matter how promising it might look. The secret to any good investment portfolio is to have a good risk distribution across your portfolio.

You should have most of your investments in low risk investments ...with some exposure to medium risk and very low exposure to high risk investment when you are over 40..... younger people can risk more, so they can invest more in medium and high risk investments.  Wink
1477  Economy / Gambling / Re: Is something big happening behind the scenes that no one is talking about? on: April 23, 2023, 05:00:07 PM
Stake.com has to reduce the bonuses, because they are pushing too much money into marketing and they are expanding too fast. Stake are paying for massive sponsorship to Everton and Drake and UFC fighters and also to some of the biggest gambling streamers in the industry.

I think these sites needs to re-prioritize and start reducing the marketing and start pushing more into their existing players. I play the same games that they provide on their site on other sites and my player experience is much better. (The RTP is just wrong on these big sites)  Roll Eyes
1478  Other / Politics & Society / Re: BRICS is a concern for all on: April 23, 2023, 04:53:49 PM
Why are you so against BRICS countries? It is about time that these countries start being independent of first world countries like USA and Europe. Their resources has been exploited for years by these countries and they got very little in return.

The BRICS countries should adopt Bitcoin and break all ties to the US Dollar, because it is just pulling them down. They should start to expand the Chinese factories to their countries, so that they can also get educated and skilled like the first world countries. (Elon Musk came from South Africa, so you can see what he became, given the right circumstances)  Wink
1479  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you agree with ChatGPT on the club that might win the premier League? on: April 22, 2023, 06:16:31 PM
I think the current AI are depending too much on human inputs to determine outcomes on Sport bets. The data that it refers to are most probably Sport predictions that are posted online. So the same rule applies to AI that are are also applied to computers and code, namely : "Garbage in.... garbage out"

You can test this by writing a bunch of bogus predictions and testing if the AI are collecting that so-called "data" and using it to make predictions. I tired ChatGPT Dice strategies and they all failed.  Grin Grin Grin
