1481  Other / Meta / Re: Cybersecurity subforum on: January 12, 2023, 05:18:50 AM
1- there have to be sufficient number of threads about this topic in other boards to the point where that board is full of those kind of threads,
I've collected a list about cyber security that the moderators often move the topic to off-topic board. I think those threads are deserve to be placed in new board either cybersecurity or hardware and software security, it's really bad to be placed in off-topic board where it's full of non sense thread like what's the best music, how to live longer, do you have pet etc.

1. Password managers or passwords from memory
2. Bitcoin and Antiviruses
3. Computer and Phone Security Questions
4. How to detect fraudulent websites.
5. I think google is spying on us ,when our phones are in the room
6. The best note taking apps for Windows?
7. LastPass - Notice of Recent Security Incident
8. Recommended 2FA app for Windows
9. What do you use for generating strong passwords?
10. Is my iPhone hacked?
11. Hackers exploit critical VMware flaw to drop ransomware & miners
12. What about a smartphone keyboard
13. Are they set a broker in my pc and stealing my data ?
14. [Warning]: Password Manager LassPass has been breached, accessed customer data
15. Probably a childish question
16. Privacy frontends for popular services (yt, reddit, twitter, fb, insta, etc)
17. I Always Use 12 to 20 Characters Long Password 🔑 For my accounts
18. Do not rely on your OS security
19. Hackers stolen Last Pass users passwords and sensitivw information
20. Copy link to clipboard - Nifty app for android
21. Passwords - 8 characters at least, lower, upper, number, symbol

Sometime I think rather than this topic get moved to off-topic board, why it's not moved to serious discussion board?

To be honest there's many threads in serious discussion board are full of non sense thread and many people doesn't care with it since the signature isn't visible, so the board get less traffic.

Rather than serious discussion almost get abandoned, I would say it's better for the administrators too enable signature space on that's board, so it will increase the traffic and moderators can just increase the minimum quality or strict rules just like Bitcoin technical discussion board.

Although I'm not a moderator nor admin, but I think maybe it's because you're asking graphic designers to join your contest while you've quoted their name on your post.

I think they're aware with the contest but they just choose not to join it.
1484  Other / Meta / Re: Turn off warn for new replies made while posting on: January 09, 2023, 04:46:20 AM
Thanks @OP I'm not aware if this forum has such feature, also hide user's avatar and signature too.

For me, turn off the new replies isn't good because posting in this forum isn't a competition to create the fastest post, you're need to create a high quality post and if there's user who beat you above, it mean you need to review his post and if he wrote something wrong, you can correct it.

I think if there's above member who have same opinion with your post, you're shouldn't to post it since it just make spam in this forum.

And now those who do bounties. they know that the bounties are limited which makes it a barrier to post POA quickly. so this will be very important for them.
Does "first come first serve" is a culture in bounties? it's really bad since it just proving the manager don't care with the user's quality post and other thing before choosing him to promote the project.
1485  Other / Meta / Re: My contribution to a near-perfect Merit-based ranking system for Bitcointalk on: January 08, 2023, 01:53:59 PM
I don't know how you think that not knowing merit transactions is good for the forum or anyone else.
Because when you get merited by X, it will increase the possibility you merit him back even though his post is just common sense or have same point with the other user. I don't think I'm wrong with this, anyone can easily spot it.

Quote
If the forum does not have the option to see merit transactions then 5alts accounts can share merit from each other's accounts and continue doing that abuse until theymos or any mod detects the abuse.
That's why I said it's need a decision from administrators or mods, but I don't think they will want to handle that because "scam" didn't even get moderated in this forum.
1486  Other / Meta / Re: My contribution to a near-perfect Merit-based ranking system for Bitcointalk on: January 07, 2023, 12:45:12 PM
@OP although it's better if we don't know which user send his own sMerit and people also doesn't know which one send him merit, but it will increase of abusing merit.

Example: you have 5 accounts and then you share sMerit with your each alts, does anyone know if you're abusing the merit system? No. Only theymos and Cyrus might know since they're an administrators.

It will increase the administrators work, so I don't think they will keep watching and moderating the merit flows between each account.

Having just a thumb up 👍 and thumb down 👎 on every post box could be very productive.

I currently only have 2 merits and read at least 50 posts every day, with about 10 of them being merit worthy. However, when I don't have any merits to give, I simply move on.
It doesn't make sense to have thumb up and merit in the same time, someone need to click thumb up and giving merit which is double work for merit sources.

If you mean thumb up is merit and thumb down is demerit, there's few people have made proposal about it, but it seems really hard to implemented, abused etc.

If you see a good post and don't have any sMerit just create report in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5093271.0
1487  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Rewind 2022 on: January 05, 2023, 12:57:47 PM
I was going to make this thread but you beat me to it. Well done OP. I added some threads to ones you already listed and tried my best to arrange them in a tabular form. This is not the best table but I hope you can improve on it.
Thank you very much, I've add, delete and do some modify on the BBCode Smiley

Lol I don't expect any user will create such kind thread to be honest since there's no rewind 2021, 2020 and older.

I think this part should be rewritten. You now make it sounds as if it's a good site to use. It's not: they have a valid Newbie warning Flag and negative feedback for the fact that they lied several times about their "investigation" in their scam accusation topic.

For the rest: nice summary Smiley
Thanks for your input, it's done Wink

What about the table? I think it's better than previous  Grin

1493  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Rewind 2022 on: January 01, 2023, 02:43:13 PM
Was that charity fiasco involving three forum members in 2022, or was it last year?  I think that ought to have made the list, because those members were otherwise trusted and went down in flames as a result of the mismanagement of the funds entrusted to them.
Yeah it's maybe one of biggest case in this forum because AFAIK there's no case about charity that run by trusted users, but since it's happen on end of the year 2021, I didn't include it. Here's the thread Bitcointalk Charity and its funds.

That was one big change happened on bitcointalk and gave hope to few other boards too Pak.
I hope you will get your local board in the next year, so I can add it on my Rewind 2023 thread Grin

Nice collection, can you share your selection criteria? Or the reasons that will make you add or delete topics to that list.
You could get some nice layouts/tables[1] [2] to show off your list, although the current layout is just fine.
Honestly I don't have a strict rules to count it as a "big event", but I take a consideration through combination of few criteria like:
1. Received a lot of merit.
2. Has many pages and the discussion has carry some weight.
3. A new thing and development to the forum.
4. It has a relation with Bitcointalk users.
5. Popular and trusted user or service that operated in this forum.

Thanks for the suggestion, if I have a free time I will try to improve it Smiley

Although he get 562 bad reports, but his statistic is 100% which mean very close to 100% so the forum rounded the amount. Would be Ratimov become the next moderator?

|LTC Casino is a scam casino that allow their gamblers to play without KYC and using VPN. Many people was welcome about this casino and interested to gamble because most of casinos in this forum are licensed, not allow VPN and mandatory KYC. Based on my observations, users in this forum are have high privacy, so they're trying to avoid gamble on KYC casino. But bad thing happen on this casino after someone create accusations thread and the money they scammed is really high for 1496 LTC or worth for $15,000 at that time. The casino block the victim account and they said it's under investigation, but provider of the gambling said they found nothing. Although it's already resolved, but it took for around 6 months to solve it.

Hello everyone,

I wonder why the image on the first column are smaller than the others while all of the images are have same "width=200". When I click the preview of my post, all of the images are fine, but when I post, the size on the first column is changing.

Does this is a bug or there's something wrong about the BBCode?

Thanks

Anyway you could participate to vote in this contest.

1497  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [POLL]🎄🎅🏻 1st Annual BTCTALK Physical CRYPTO X-MAS Decoration Contest🎄🎅 on: December 31, 2022, 03:38:37 AM
edit: is anyone else seeing the first column of entrants as smaller sized thumbnails than the rest of the contest entrants?

Yep I try to figure what's the problem but I can't find anything, I create thread in Meta board about this, maybe a bug?

Anyway the voters are eligible for everyone? which mean a participant can vote too?

Edit

@OP you can update your thread with this code, the images on the first column will appear with the same size like the other columns.

1499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where is your bitcoin balance at the end of the year? on: December 29, 2022, 09:28:58 AM
My balance (BTC)

Just a heads up: potentially risking yourself due to exposing your holdings aside — if you don't actively trade your bitcoin, it'd probably be the best idea to withdraw your funds to a reputable hardware wallet(Ledger/Trezor).

https://cryptosec.info/exchange-hacks
No need to remind @OP to transfer his coins to hardware wallet, he was recommend it to anyone in the last month, but he's the one who not hold it on hardware wallet lol. So we can assume @OP is have 2 mentalities here Roll Eyes

1. How can I keep my Bitcoin safe?

Day by day people are losing faith in the exchange after the FTX Centralized Exchange was hacked.  Now people don't want to store their cryptocurrency on centralized exchanges.  So they want to choose trusted wallets as an alternative to centralized exchanges.  A trusted wallet usually refers to a hardware or cold wallet.  Because the private key of the hardware or cold wallet is usually controlled by the user.  So there is no possibility of hacking.

Some hardware & Cold wallets...

Ledger Nano S
Trezor M1
Safepal S1
Steel Bitcoin wallet
Trezor Model T for Next Generation
Secux W20
SecuxV20
D'CENT Biometric wallet

Ellipal titan Bundle
Ellipal titan mini
Coolwallet pro
Atomic Wallet
KeepKey
Armory offline bitcoin wallet
Bitbox

1500  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there any security risk of running a bitcoin node? on: December 27, 2022, 10:02:36 AM
You need to run it using Tor network.

Yes your IP address will be visible to peers that you connect to unless you use Tor. (Tor is recommended if privacy is especially important to you.) However, if you choose to use a clearnet node and you don't want your IP address to show up on sites like bitnodes.io you can run a non-listening node by disabling listening. You do this by configuring with the -listen=0 flag or putting listen=0 in your config file. This way you can't be contacted by nodes you aren't directly connected to. The downside to this is that you aren't helping the network as much and you will typically have fewer connections.

VPN isn't good for security since they store your IP address on their centralized server, you don't have any way to verify if your VPN is legit and trusted.

Running it on different network could increase your privacy for little bit, but it doesn't protect your privacy.
