1481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Looking for a Bitcoin wallet on: July 24, 2016, 04:47:27 PM
I used Electrum because it was recommended to me when I started using Bitcoin.
The interface looks good and everything works well.
It did run a little slow when setting up the account, but I think thats because my phone is a few years old.

Just be sure to make a backup of your key and passphrase somewhere.
I write my keys to a text file and encrypt them, then save them on a computer and a couple USB sticks as backup in case of emergency.
1482  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I want to invest in antminer s7 on: July 24, 2016, 04:40:02 PM
Yes I think with this money you would be better off saving or investing in some coins if you think Bitcoin will go up in price.
But the time to get rich with Bitcoin is over unless you bought coins years ago Im afraid. Sad

Maybe save your money and do some research and you can make some profit trading some of the alt-coins.
Or buy some stocks in a company you trust for a long term investment.
1483  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Paris admits Nice attack was a false flag operation on: July 24, 2016, 04:29:33 PM
I would think it was somewhat suspicious if the same guy filmed both the Nice truck crash and the shootings in Germany.
Can anyone prove that is the case?
Would certainly seem strange that the same person would just happen to be filming at the right time in two totally different countries.
1484  Other / Meta / Re: Illiterate sig spammers on: July 24, 2016, 02:46:24 PM
Yeah I honestly feel bad for joining a signature campaign some days.
But I figure if someone will pay me for my posts, I might as well take the money.
I try not to spam, I only post actual helpful responses, but there are definitely people who are going to make a ton of new threads and reply with a bunch of garbage to increase their post count.

Its sad that probably more than 50% of the posts on this forum are people just spamming to increase their post count.
Half the shit isn't even readable. Or its a link to some story about bitcoin from six months ago.
1485  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Can I offer the use of my electricity? on: July 24, 2016, 02:26:47 PM
At 4 cents, would an older miner like an s7 be profitable?
I'm sure you can get some very cheap now that people will be upgrading.
I would calculate the cost of some cheap older miners and see if you can make a profit.
If the ROI isn't too long its probably a good investment.

I think you would have to already have some sort of facility or basically free power if anyone were going to build a new mining setup these days.
Competition in other countries is just so great since they have such cheap power and no regulations on how things have to be set up.
1486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What do you think about using AWS for Mining? on: July 24, 2016, 02:19:05 PM
You can get some free AWS servers but the amount of storage and traffic you get is very low.
I'm not sure what the cost is once you go past the free tier but yeah its probably way higher than the amount you would mine,
and since its CPU mining it would have to be Etherium or some altcoin, right?
1487  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is it worth it? on: July 24, 2016, 02:08:52 PM

network usage is ~1TiB per month (depends greatly on the number of connections though)

1 TiB of data per month?!?!?
I didn't realize the data usage would be that high.
Each transactions is so small, but apparently they add up!
(Or you are re-downloading the entire blockchain constantly)
1488  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ever Found a Private Key with Bitcoin in it? on: July 24, 2016, 01:22:12 PM
I think it would be more likely you would find a smartphone or some device with an unlocked wallet-
Coinbase, etc
than you would randomly discover a private key.
It could happen, but I think the odds are like winning the lottery one in a few hundred million?
(I'm sure someone on the forum knows the actual percentage chance of guessing a key)
1489  Other / Off-topic / Re: Worst Movies You Have Ever Watched on: July 24, 2016, 01:19:43 PM
Ghost Rider with Nicholas Cage has to  be the worst movie ever.
I tried to watch it three or four different times and I could never get past maybe a half hour.
It's just too bad.
Jurassic Park 3 was the first movie I ever left the theater during the film.
I got free tickets and didnt watch past the first hour it was so bad lol.
1490  Economy / Speculation / Re: DOWN WE GO - Market is unstable. It will crash around halving day. on: July 24, 2016, 01:53:50 AM
I got scared on Friday when I saw the price going below $650 and almost started selling my coins.
But I held out and I'm going to hope that the price goes up towards $700.
I think BTC can get to a higher price in the future but who knows.
Maybe I'm wasting my money and should just be putting it in the bank or towards stocks/ bonds.  Roll Eyes
1491  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin get the ability to implement reversible transactions? on: July 24, 2016, 01:16:00 AM
Its an interesting idea, but you would need a way for both the sender and the receiver to agree to reverse the transaction.
As it is now, you can just send the coins back in a new transaction, so the only difference is the fees you would lose?
What would be the reason to reverse the transaction as opposed to sending the coins again?
1492  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best ways to make money online on: July 23, 2016, 10:20:57 PM
Best way to make money online?
Be a hot girl and do cam shows.  Grin

If you're a guy?
Be good at something that has to do with computers.
Programming, designing web pages, etc.
Some service you can sell over the internet.
1493  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Locking a wallet so I can't withdraw coins on: July 23, 2016, 10:16:24 PM
Yeah you could send it to a trustworthy escrow member.
There are some people on these forums that have held tens of thousands of dollars in coins in escrow.

But remember, if you tell them to hold your coins until a certain date, and they are providing a reputable service,
there is no way they are going to release the coins early.  Grin
1494  Economy / Economics / Re: How can you earn 5% interest daily on your bitcoins? on: July 23, 2016, 07:32:25 PM
Maybe if you are very good at Poker you could earn some percentage like this.
There are some poker sites that take Bitcoin now.
(Poker is one of the only games where your skill can give you an edge. Everything else will be 50/50 at best)

Im sure any site promising you 5% increase a day is a scam.
1495  Other / Meta / Re: bitcoin talk activity ? on: July 23, 2016, 07:28:59 PM
^^^
Read the link posted above. Any website info you need can be found in the "Meta" forum.

The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every hour.
1496  Economy / Economics / Re: How many Bitcoin do you have saved? on: July 23, 2016, 04:41:54 PM
I would never tell anyone if I had a large amount of BTC. Wink
(I don't personally, I have a very small amount.)

I'm interested to know how many people have physical Bitcoins.
(Like the Casascius coins that came out)
This is a really cool idea for cold storage, but all the coins I've seen are MUCH more expensive than the price of a digital coin.
(They have some collectors value, I guess?)
1497  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So is Bitcoin a SAFE Asset? on: July 23, 2016, 03:39:12 PM
Sorry, as much as I wish it was, I still consider Bitcoin very UNSAFE.
The price changes, and there is no insurance or government backing it.
It will PROBABLY be stable and accepted for a while, but there is no way to know.
So I treat it like a risky investment. I put some money in it and hope for the best but for me its like gambling. Smiley
1498  Other / Politics & Society / Re: $25,000 Bitcoin Reward to Hack Documents Proving Orlando Was a False Flag on: July 23, 2016, 01:47:55 PM
I think you would have to pay more than 25k for this type of information if it were true.
Maybe 2.5 million, because if you had this info and leaked it you would be on the run for the rest of your life.
I'm talking black vans and helicopters type stuff.
1499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet suddenly empty on: July 23, 2016, 01:27:50 PM
If you look at the forum, you can see knightdk helping a lot of people with technical issues.
I'm almost 100% sure he can be trusted.
The log file shouldn't show anything that would put your BTC at risk so I would definitely PM him the info if you need some additional help.
1500  Economy / Economics / Re: Best time to hold other currencies aside from bitcoin on: July 23, 2016, 01:16:19 PM
Eventually we will see the rise of another coin.
Maybe Etherium will be the second coin. Maybe it will crash.
It's a good sign to see Coinbase start dealing with Etherium, though.

I keep looking at Zcash.
It's an interesting idea to have anonymous transactions, and it has some huge investors.

Eventually some other currency will stick.
But most altcoins are just some pump and dump scheme right now.
