1501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 24, 2017, 06:34:52 PM

The Monerolink PDF has been answered by https://getmonero.org/2017/04/19/an-unofficial-response-to-an-empirical-analysis-of-linkability.html

That Monerolink PDF was written in part by Andrew Miller, who is on the official Zcash team (https://z.cash/team.html). That removes any impartiality which, being an academic, he's supposed to have. And, as seen in the link above, the faults they find with Monero can be easily debunked and/or those faults no longer apply since they've been fixed and have been fixed for some time. So, it's just FUD, but do your own research and see for yourself.

Here's a comparison of privacy-centric coins: https://moneroforcash.com/monero-vs-dash-vs-zcash-vs-bitcoinmixers.php
I am a longtime Monero supporter.  I bought within a month or two of the coin's issue in 2014, when Bittrex first listed it.  Monero is my biggest holding, more than any other crypto, and more than my dollar-denominated assets.  I had to get my bona fides out of the way because of what I am about to say.  And I want you to read and consider.
All the back and forth, including refuations posted by Monero people, are 99.9% motivated by partisanship.
Wake up and stop acting like kids in the schoolyard.
I come to this thread to read and communicate with people who understand crypto, and what I see is the same dreary tit-for-tat that infects every debate I'm following, whether it's core vs bitcoin cash, Monero vs Zcash, and all the rest of the small minded wrangling over crypto controversies.
Grow up, people.  There's much more to this than winning the argument.
I want to read something written in a tone of detachment.
God damn it.

You managed to create a bigger shitpost here than the ones you just ranted about.

At least you have a sense of homour.

Trolls are welcome in Monero, as they usually herald a nice uptick in price.  See Fatman last week, for instance and of course the various Ducks we seem to attract.

You have said your piece it has been refuted, given us all a giggle, now (since I can't see us agreeing) toddle off to your corporate controlled coins and leave us alone? I think most of us here in Monero are happy enough with our investment.

We are sorry for others who obviously aren't.

I see you're handing out helpful advice all over the place:

Hell no stay away from LTC and BTC. Invest in BitcoinCash and Zcash.

Heavy bags you're holding?
1503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 22, 2017, 11:18:13 PM
Damn you Monero - I want to go to bed and you're just revving up again?
1504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 22, 2017, 10:06:48 PM
@Kurious

It would be strange if Korbit would not add XMR and let Bithumb have all the fun what you think? Cheesy
So yes it seems likely XMR could very soon be on 2 korean exchanges, not only one. Together with a volume of 1,5 billion USD daily!

Now add that they have only boring coins beside ETH, XMR could be the new king over there.

Agreed - it's Alt heaven over there. Biggest market for ETH.   Sorry I doubted you.  Just not used to Monero news being THIS good.

Mempool on BTC approaching all time high, still a war going on over there and it's not totally sorted.

But Monero. Monero!

Korean excitement / New tech coming / HW wallets looking closer / respect growing / the Privacy Issue becoming increasingly important / DNMs / World markets looking for different asset allocations / more awareness of crypto generally.

And we are well over a billion market cap.

It really is looking rather good!

They SHOULD add it.  No brainer.

Alex Petrov of bitfury v interesting

He's buggered off. What was the gist?

well you probably know the gist: asic efficiency has pretty much peaked, and this will lead to mining decentralisation - we are at peak centralisation
also bitfury and bitmain much better at bitcoin asics than intel or amd - would take them 3-5 years to catch up

he went on to be quite pro segwit2x still (49 businesses, 95% miners bla blah), but said they'd need technical help from core! i'd better not infer anything from that

Doesn't look like that 'help' will be forthcoming soon...
1506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 22, 2017, 09:18:28 PM
Yeah true Korbit has 430 million USD trading volume daily: https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/korbit/
They also only have Ripple, ETH, ETC, BTC and BCH. XMR will be something new on Bithumb and Korbit (if they add it) and a lot of volume could flow through XMR in Korea...

I stand corrected - I looked at BTC and it was $45 million (ish) - but Bitcoin is not even in the top three currencies on the exchange!

Apologies.  And if they do list XMR.. Jeez!

1507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 22, 2017, 09:00:45 PM
Could it be that another Korean exchange, Korbit will add XMR?
Take a look at https://www.korbit.co.kr/ and the menu point "TRADE".

They have 500 million USD trading volume daily!

Listed under 'other digital assets' (with Litecoin and BCH) but yep!  Well spotted.

But the BTC traded daily was 11,000 (ish) so not sure about 500,000,000 USD a day - maybe in KRW?

Are you happy, BOT, are you buying the DIP ? Yes ? Good boy !

CAD almost didn't dip? How is that?

Jimbo buys them...
1509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 22, 2017, 07:36:14 PM

Every time i visit casino i put in my pockets the money that i want to lose if you want it...

Heh... yeah, smart man.  But aaaaaaaa!  I'm in VEGAS, brother!!  Vegas baby Vegas LOL

What fun is that, walking around the casino just only keeping your money in your pocket?  Wink

I think he meant just decide what you're prepared to lose and take that...

I used to do that until I won at Blackjack and loved it.  Never went back after that - it was too delicious!

They changed the dealer on me three times and I kept winning - then lost half on one card and realiied how much I had just lost.  Took the rest and left.  I have never been back.  I realised I am too much of a gambler!
1510  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 21, 2017, 11:03:11 PM
Jeez, it was 010 a few days back, now it's 018X - and you're complaining?

Take pofits if you want to? Go ahead..
1511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 21, 2017, 05:47:16 PM
Nice data:

Well over a billion Market Cap - No.11 last time I looked, not where it should be but in the elite billion $ cap club.

Developments and news positive, too with Bithumb and tech proposals

And DNMs are still not back where they will be.  Yet.

On Polo:

- top (but one) of gains % today of all coins on Polo.

- Only ETH has higher daily volume

- Buy and sell sides on Polo are roughly even, so not many are for sale compared to usual ratios.

I could have booked profits, but it seems irrational. I am hodling.
1512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 21, 2017, 05:36:06 PM
But i think it is way overpriced as it stands now.

Then with all due respect you're in the minority. Careful consideration of Monero's entire holistic fabric would indicate massive underpricement by a factor of almost ten.

A two-billion market cap is frankly pretty conservative. All of the social telemetry points to Monero being the third largest socio-industrial force in the cryptospace after only Bitcoin and Ethereum, and in some cases actually is on a parallel with Ethereum (IRC metrics for example.)

The speed and verocity of today's rise has all the hallmarks of an upward correction.

The question everyone's been asking is this: If Monero is a number three coin, when why is it's market cap so low? The answer is because the majority of the money currently flowing into the cryptospace stems from technophobic venture capitalists; people who want to go deep on Monero, but don't feel comfortable figuring out the CLI/GUI when they're currently making returns of 400%-800% on assets that they can use in conjunction with hardware wallets.

The moment that Monero is on a hardware wallet is the moment this conflict will cease and the real upward correction will come into being. Everybody knows this.

However, you can't have your cake and eat it. The issue for technophobic venture capitalists is how do they take advantage of the current low price while not being able to use hardware wallets. Unfortunately, that's something they're going to have to figure out for themselves, but the help is out there if they're willing to take the plunge.

Agreed on this and in particular the new range correction.   Luckily I had a few sells laddered up to 024, and was able to re-buy most of them in the 019s.

I just can't cash out...  Keep promising myself I will, but well, you know.... Monero.  It's just too good.

The best thing is it's always just after some trolls have stopped by.   Best indicator there is.

Ok then let me post this and I expect some of you to call me an idiot here but here goes.

I have paper wallets and my plan to get BCH is this...

1. Create new paper wallets and using bitcoin core wallet as a middle man I'll  transfer stash to new paper wallets.

2. Use a BCH software wallet and insert my old private keys (that are now empty)
(Which BCH wallet do I use? Is there more than one?)

3. When I want to trade them, send them to Kraken.

What am I missing?

I use Bitcoin Classic as a wallet (on a separate computer) It took ages to sync the blockchain though, days in fact.

If weeks ago or even days ago someone said "put loads of money in monero 2 days before btc segwit activation" I would have said you need to take your medication my friend and maybe go back to your padded room.

Yeah I just shit myself looking at the price. Lucky for me I've got a decent stash Smiley

The thing with Monero is no one knows if you have or haven't.

I lost all mine in a bizarre boating accident.

Massive spike last August too.  It goes on holiday for the summer.
1516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 21, 2017, 08:16:49 AM
I did think we were about due:

Every now and then Monero suddenly rises sharply. Like the 2500% it increased in 2016. A lot of that around the end of August.  The past in no guide to the future, but Spring and the cusp of Autumn have often been rather propitious for the XMR price...

We do seem to have two massive lifts a year.
1517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 21, 2017, 08:10:14 AM
Boom!

Love to start the day with green candles....  Hello Monero, enjoyed your holiday?

Impressive week-end!
I'm curious now if this trend will continue or we'll see a correction, especially when America will wake up.
I wouldn't mind though to see it grow to 0.02 and beyond Smiley

Yeah... that would be... OK  Grin

Any ideas how to best prepare for the next fork (which will probably be our own)?
Pls don't say Litecoin.

Just move your coins to addresses where you control the private keys and hope it gets sorted out. If neither Core nor btc1 are going to do adequate replay protection, it might get really messy. However, BU has been around for quite some time, and someone could have attempted a hard fork with that software, but no one did. Let's hope that no one will dare execute btc1 hard fork, and we will just have to deal with the scaling squabble for many months, if not years to come.

BU was most of the time below 40% hashrate. Segwit2x is over 90%.

Just because they signaled it doesn't mean they are actually going to run the software when the time comes to pick sidea. I don't even believe many were running btc1 to enforce BIP91. Everyone just went along. Thank goodness.

If we get through this smoothly without a fork, then MOON™ is on.  Am I right in assuming Core are going to reject 2X, so will there be ragequit and fork?

Anonymint is obviously shilling for his own coin by dragging all of the competition through the mud. He's been doing it for years. What doesn't make sense is why he thinks attacking others is a more effective use of his time than building his own coin.

Because it's easier to tear down then create. He is self deluding himself that his time is well spent in this en-devour rather than doing the hard work of creating what he's been preaching which is the impossible.

Monero has been outted everywhere now. I'm afraid the future of monero is grim at best. Time to sell.

Please link me to this so called "outted stuff" your spewing about. And don't to technical in you asertations as we're not that bright here.

I see what you did there.  Of course investing in XMR since it was 25c a pop means we are a little less intelligent and we just got lucky it rose over 2500% in 2016 and is set for massive DNM adoption, Soon™

I hope someone can help us with our inability to find the BEST COIN there is... Wink

Meh...  Who on earth wants financial privacy anyway?

TLDR?

Monero: Crouching tiger, hidden dragon.  Privacy is precious.
