1501  Economy / Lending / Re: INeededALoan: specifically, 450 more bitcoin on Feb 1. [15% MPR] on: January 20, 2012, 09:19:35 AM
INAU - haven't forgotten you.  Assume this is 450 extra and I'll know what I have spare closer to the time (over the coin I suggested via pm).   Smiley

Would you like to see my new home entertainment system?

The IBM PC is out of place - hmmm - must find floppys.

Hi, as a suggestion (and I've had to do this more than once before), delete that miner and make a whole new one.  Sometimes it gets messed up even if everything looks right.  (and save the new configuration)

If you're getting the connection problem, I assume it is allowed through your firewall?  How long - forever (>15 minuted?) sometimes it takes a minute or two first time - vague memory).  Also, some networks (like the one I'm on at the moment) doesn't allow me to connect through port 8332.

Have you double checked the worker and password on deepbit?  I used that as a pool originally because it started easily for me first time.

In guiminer, did you try "-p1" without spaces?  I'm assuming you went through the create new CL miner option and filled in the different boxes before hitting the "start" button.

Might also be handy to know which version of catalyst/windows you are using.
1508  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: First Pirate Savings and Trust on: January 19, 2012, 07:38:50 PM
LOL - more fool me.  Yep, might be a ponzi - but I've been getting my regular payments for over a month and just because someone is smart enough to get an economy moving will always attract detractors (sorry for the poor construction).

If anyone has deposited money into a "bank" and demanded to know what they led for, let me know.  NINJNA loans in the USA precipitated a lot of financial strife, and I'm sure the major corporates and Governments are happy to borrow funds for fraud, military weapons, funding warfare programs and even providing transaction services to people engaged in state sponsored torture.  Got to pay those bills afterall.

As mentioned many times before, Pirate does not owe or need to explain, just as you are not compelled to invest.
1509  Economy / Lending / Re: Credit ratings on: January 19, 2012, 07:57:23 AM
Earlier today I was looking at the "honest traders" thread, but it doesn't really help for lending.  Having a sprawling multi-page unstructured repository will not help here much either.  Something for me to ponder on.
1510  Economy / Lending / Re: OTC Credit Default Swaps on: January 19, 2012, 07:55:33 AM
Like many "markets" it's starting to sort itself out with a few early adopters and people doing things.  Working on building up my loan portfolio because it is a worthwile service and while CDS might not be the right instrument, there is a fair degree of risk involved.

Posting to keep up to date and expressing an interest given the other names in the thread so far.
1511  Economy / Speculation / Re: Remember remember the thread of the year, and what greed can do on: January 19, 2012, 07:17:49 AM
This was just a warm up round, I expect to see far worse train wrecks still lying ahead. By way of comparison, since the 9/11 attacks people barely even remember the World Trade Center bombing of 1993. We have yet to see the bitcoin 9/11.

1993 - my first house ($91k) - had a party and it was the CNN lead story.

It's changing - it's also partly the time of day.  (and there is a bit of other trading happening)
1513  Economy / Marketplace / Re: New Improvements at Crypto X Change – Deposit & Withdraw any currency now for $5 on: January 18, 2012, 07:36:54 PM
Looks like some nice improvements - I've been very happy with the trading and support I received (thanks Eric) and looking for something easier to use for funds transfer than some of the other exchanges.  Must be time to play some more.

1515  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think Bitcoinica should switch to TradeHill? [Edited] on: January 18, 2012, 05:57:47 PM
I read some of the Bitcoinica threads with interest, not because I use the service, but because of the trouble people get themselves into.  This topic is worth commenting on as there is some incentive to reduce the dominance (and perceived problems with Gox).

Switching to TradeHill (or Intersango as the other apparently well run exchange) could do wonders for their liquidity, as Bitcoinica hedges their position in the market being measured against.

One idea is to offer two products, one pegged against Gox, the other against Tradehill - that will give people extra ability to vote with their feet, rather than having a possibly disruptive change in rules (moving from settling against one index to another).

Also, Bitcoinica appears to be working well and setting up an exchange will not necessarily work as well - stick to the thing that works - distracting into a second unknown could kill both.
1516  Economy / Lending / Re: (Kluge) Loans Out, Available, Repaid -- 10% MPR, 30D duration on: January 18, 2012, 08:56:33 AM
A useful set of terms.  For clarity, what is your definition of "pledged" versus "loaned"?
1517  Economy / Speculation / Re: fraud on bitcoinica, who got margin calls point in point too ? on: January 18, 2012, 04:08:57 AM
I am 7 years in trading, I know who make profits and how.
this trade may be profitable only for bitcoinica.

Do you always display your positions publicly online when trading?

Standard practice for 7 year veterans.  6 year veterans not so much.

Trading what?  Most traders I know don't know shit about trading something as volatile as this.  Reading through, people appear to not understand how futures and options work, and now they are learning, are annoyed at their own ignorance.

Back - and yes, was afk - and now waiting for a flight.  Was about to send coins, but I see you have them from someone else.

The witnessed/seconded thing was to initially counter people going back and editing their posts to try to change the story.

Now it serves two purposes:
1: record that other members of the forum have seen a deal take place - helps with building reputation, and,
2: for fun
