1501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Release - Open source software - replacing hardware wallets with image { on: July 23, 2016, 01:11:15 PM
Thank you for posting this!
I've done some basic steganography and watched some presentations about it (Defcon, Blackhat etc)
It's a very interesting topic and certainly a cool technology.
I will check this out when I have some time later today.   Cool
1502  Other / Off-topic / Re: Your favorite alcohol? on: July 23, 2016, 01:06:31 PM
I would like to try some of the Japanese Whiskeys.
Most people say that only Scotch Whiskey is the only true "Scotch", but some of the Japanese brands have won competitions and gotten very good reviews.
I'm going to take a look and buy something Japanese to try it out.
1503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pokemon GO and Bitcoin would be a killer combo on: July 23, 2016, 01:03:57 PM
We might see some online games take payment in BTC as a first step.
But it will be a while before a major company like Nintendo, EA, etc has any sort of integration with Bitcoin.
(Because I think you are talking about earning BTC in a game)
1504  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Surveys on: July 23, 2016, 12:59:07 PM
There are some decent survey sites you can find.
There were a few that I found that paid me $0.50 to $1.00 for a survey but it would take a half hour or more to do the survey.
They all paid to my paypal account, though. I don't remember any of them paying in BTC.
(But you could always convert the Paypal to BTC through Coinbase or some other site)
I can PM them or something, I don't want anyone to think I'm a shill here to promote these sites.
1505  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Shooting in Munich on: July 23, 2016, 12:54:23 PM
Has there been any update on this? Do we have any German members? What are they saying on the local news about this?
There has been some coverage of this in the US but not a ton.

It did end up being just one shooter?
(At first they reported it may have been up to three people)
1506  Economy / Economics / Re: If Bitcoin goes up very high should i buy a house? on: July 23, 2016, 12:48:38 PM
If you could get some property in a good area, I would much rather have the house than Bitcoin.
(As long as you can afford to keep up the taxes, etc)
If you can cash out and make a profit and buy some land I would say go ahead.
Even if Bitcoin went up to a much higher price, I would have no regrets.
1507  Other / Off-topic / Re: What to do with my signature campaign earnings ? on: July 23, 2016, 12:37:50 PM
I think you are on the right track to realize that you shouldn't be gambling it all away!  Smiley
Gambling is for some coins you don't care about losing to have some fun.
If you are trying to grow your investment, I would just sit on the coins and look for a good opportunity.
Be patient and keep earning through your campaign and eventually you will come up with some good idea on how to multiply it.
1508  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitmain has bought Blocktrail on: July 23, 2016, 12:21:31 PM
They are probably trying to expand their brand.
And yeah I doubt it cost them much since what kind of profit would the website really have.
Didn't it have literally zero advertisements? The revenue would have been zero then.
Expect to see Bitmain advertising/ branding on the site or something to help them cover their operating costs.
1509  Economy / Speculation / Re: Give us your whale theories. on: July 23, 2016, 11:59:53 AM
Well, personally, if I was a billionaire, I would have no problem investing a couple million in Bitcoin since its an interesting idea.
So I'm sure there are some people who have a couple to maybe 10 million dollars in BTC and don't care at all if they lose it.
Theres probably a few people like this and they would be able to buy and sell huge amounts.

Does anyone have records of some address moving a HUGE amount of coins?
How much work do you think these people would do to spread out the coins to different addresses and make it harder to determine if they were doing some kind of market manipulation?
1510  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trendon Shavers goes to jail for 18 months on: July 23, 2016, 11:52:27 AM
This is a really good thing.
It shows that you can actually get in trouble for defrauding people out of bitcoin.
So many scammers know that they can stay anonymous on the internet, and transfer some BTC to an anonymous address.
It's very easy to scam some money in this area, so its no wonder so many fraudsters are attracted to Bitcoin.
At least one of them got caught and got more than a slap on the wrist.
1511  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Alarming bad publicity to bitcoins in social media on: July 23, 2016, 11:46:15 AM
Lazy reporters need a way to come up with some headlines that will shock people.
"Hey did you know your kids are using computer money to buy drugs on the internet?!?!?!"
That's why we need to work hard to educate people about cryptocurrency and blockchain.
1512  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Cheap electricity on: July 23, 2016, 01:17:16 AM
In one of the s9 threads, members were estimating that you could be profitable as long as electricity was 0.06//kWh or less.
If you are getting electricity for such a low price, even an older miner like an s7 would probably make you money.
(It might take some time but you are getting electricity for basically next to nothing.)
1513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet suddenly empty on: July 22, 2016, 05:47:12 PM
If the wallet.dat file is on the Desktop, I would see if something was changed in the install location during setup.
Or maybe they were accidentally moved and that is causing an issue because they are no longer in the correct directory.

Otherwise, I would start checking to make sure no one had access to the computer, or that you don't have a virus and someone moved the folders after they accessed your computer remotely.
1514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a way to block my wallet and prevent any withdrawal for a month? on: July 22, 2016, 05:30:52 PM
What if you changed your key and locked your wallet
and then used a site like
http://www.futureme.org
to send you the key in a month?
(Of course, if you for some reason can't get the message in a month you no longer have access to your wallet....)
1515  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S9 11.85TH/s for sale today in China on: July 22, 2016, 04:58:04 PM
Wow yeah those sold out so fast its crazy.
They definitely could have priced them a little higher, I guess.
I expect a lot of Chinese miners are upgrading their farms?
1516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase Helps FBI Shut Down KickAssTorrents on: July 22, 2016, 04:08:23 PM
The hardest part of running any illegal operation is going to be converting the BTC into another form of payment.
At some point you are going to have to link with a bank account or some other personal information if you want to convert those coins into another currency.
Most people are going to be too greedy to have it set up in someone elses name, and that's where they are going to get caught.
1517  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase Helps FBI Shut Down KickAssTorrents on: July 22, 2016, 03:56:38 PM
Yeah if you are running a legitimate business, you probably want to comply when the FBI hits you with a subpoena!
It will be interesting to see if more details come out about this.
What did KAT have to do with Bitcoin? Were they taking some payments or making some payments in BTC?
1518  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why need to use a Mixer? on: July 22, 2016, 02:56:29 PM
Quote
I also use a mixer btw, when sending Bitcoins to my cold storage wallet Smiley
Not involved in any illegal activities
That is a good point about mixing coins before sending to cold storage.
Do you have a site which you recommend?
I'm planning on moving some stuff to a paper wallet and would consider mixing before I moved them to storage to make it harder for someone to trace.
1519  Economy / Speculation / Re: 666 barrier on: July 22, 2016, 02:47:44 PM
Looks like we are going to have to work just to get back to $660.
(Price on preev.com dropping to almost $650!)
Whats going on with the price? Where are all these people posting about how BTC will be worth $1200 by the end of the month? LOL  Grin
1520  Economy / Economics / Re: Loans too risky? on: July 22, 2016, 02:43:24 PM
I would personally never loan anything to someone I didn't know in real life.
Unless someone is super established in the community and I had dealt with them before,
(forum moderators, people that run a pool and are constantly posting to the forum and actually have something to lose)
they might be trying to pull some exit scam.
People buy and sell forum accounts, so you don't even know if the person you are talking to is the person who created the account.
