....you brag and boast, as did the poster I was originally responding to, as if your gains were down to something other than good fortune - indeed, you seem to claim that your gains have been down to your succesful employment of clever trading strategies.

I say that you are bigging yourself up and have no better grasp on this market than any of the rest of us. You are being disingenuous.

A single trade is susceptible to luck. The longer the series of trades you make, the more the result will reflect your strategy. I've over 60K trades on Polo with a cray cray % profit, so I'd have to ascribe that to more than just luck.

Quote
Please, I would be more than happy for you to prove me wrong - put down, here and now, based on probability, the price movements of BTC/USD over the next few weeks - or if you prefer the next couple of decades. I will happily stand corrected, and in due course become a rich man on the back of your knowledge and understanding.

How about I abase myself with self-flagellation? That seems to be what you're after.
1542  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 27, 2017, 08:44:40 PM
Yeah - look, I'm not wanting to start an argument here but your post doesn't make much sense. And, FWIW I bought at the same price point as yourself and the other guy.

You say that you are in the 1% that just "knows", on the balance of probabilities. Yet you state in your post that even though you had money set aside for sub $100, the price never went that low so your (potential) order wasn't met. You made the wrong call then, surely ?

How are probabilities arrived at in this market ? "Aligning probabilities" is a posh way of saying you are calling the top and the bottom.

Its my contention that you are unable to do so - and that, therefore, a cost averaging strategy, especially for those who might just be entering the bitcoin invetsment space and weren't fortunate enough to get in at a lower price point, might well be a very good strategy indeed.

That, or just buy and hold.

But don't try to second guess this market.

Probability means you don't know, but it doesn't mean that you're clueless either. There are probability clouds for electrons around an atom - cluster your bids around the areas of greater likelihood. Now obviously, if I have a model in my mind of adoption phases, I could be mistaken about the model, so readjustment is necessary based on chart analysis.

Was withholding funds for <$100 wrong? Only if you think that the bottom is some absolute number rather than ranges of possibilities. Have you considered that maybe it could only be 25% wrong, for example?

p.s. you probably haven't bought in at the same point as me. Tongue
1543  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 27, 2017, 06:07:17 PM
If you can call the tops - and the bottoms - then you are a better man than 99.9% on here.

For the rest of mankind cost averaging doesn't seem like a bad strategy to me.

You don't need to call tops or bottoms. If you did, you could have restocked at $155. It's more a case of aligning probabilities. I haven't bought for myself since $300 either, but I did have money allocated for a sub-$100 panic (which never materialized).

I guess a cost-averaging strategy isn't a bad idea for the other 99% however.

Sooner or later there will be a healthy Fibonacci 23.6% correction. At current ATH of 2760 that would be 2145.

Seems about right. People forget we had some significant drops before the 2013 bubbles burst.

lol. RIP to that mofo.

And sign up for Byteball  - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1608859.0 and Bitcore - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1883902.0  while you still can too. It's all free and surprisingly valuable if you have a decent BTC balance.

Thanks man. Heard about the upcoming Stellar distribution, didn't know others were doing or had done something similar.
1547  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 23, 2017, 07:38:12 PM
Clams are a POS Crypto mainly used by Just Dice for betting. Their distribution is based on a snapshot of the BTC, LTC and Doge blockchains in May 2014 or so. If you have a private key from back then with a balance then you can claim 4.6 CLAM per key.

The fuck, can't believe I never heard of this until now. Free shitcoins for me, yay. Tongue
1548  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: May 23, 2017, 02:35:11 AM
Looks like it's still soaring  Cool

Maybe. Dip is within limits for another rise, but alts in general are flashing warning signals to me. My trade position is mostly USD now.

I'm thinking about finding a way to get CB back in the spotlight though so hold tight. Anyone else is, of course, free to reimplement CB on their own.

I was genuinely going to do something about that, but trading has taken over my life recently  Embarrassed
1550  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 22, 2017, 06:36:35 PM
things actually make sense on finex....it would of course eventually run out of fiat because no one would send fiat there? hence price getting left behind.

How are they going to run out of fiat when people can't withdraw? Much more likely to run out of BTC, which makes the price being lower there perverse. Finex userbase must be masochistic.

I can do whatever the fuck I want. Thank you bitcoin.

Feels pretty good, eh?  Cool

I spent it all on pizza long ago:  https://blockchain.info/address/1XPTgDRhN8RFnzniWCddobD9iKZatrvH4

3-4 years ago there were less than 100 people frequenting this forum, and I was pretty happy to trade 10,000 coins for pizza.  I mean people can say I'm stupid, but it was a great deal at the time.  I don't think anyone could have known it would take off like this. Smiley

He spent everything, unfortunately  Cry Cry Cry

Ouch! That's like when Homer sold all his shares in the nuclear plant for beer.

1920$ at preev & I wouldn't call this a "natural growth" I mean c'mon we've been around long enough to see what organic really means (a couple of bucks maybe 10$ per day) but that's something else.

Some have been around long enough to know that applying linear rules isn't very wise.

Those fees is his right to have his transactions processed. It doesn't matter why it is done, not that you can do more than guess in accordance with your personal bias, he is paying for it. Working as intended, in other words.

But how does any of that un-define something as spam? I have a right to push Potatocoin flyers through your door every day, and your letterbox would be working as intended, but it's still spam.
1555  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 17, 2017, 01:05:55 AM
I think that the whale pumpers have just about squeezed all of the 'free ride' they can out of the alts. Now that XRP (the pinnacle of shitcoin) has finally been pumped, there are literally no more alts that anyone might care about to pump.  Unless they're saving Auroracoin, Feathercoin, or Maxcoin for the last hurrah? Lol

I'm not seeing any evidence yet that the pumpfest is over. The inflexion point could be sharp however.
1556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XRP] Ripple Speculation on: May 16, 2017, 01:01:57 AM
Seems like everybody wants to make Mrpumpy even richer. Hasn't he got enough money already?  Shocked
1557  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex level 2 verification takes 2 months on: May 15, 2017, 10:30:32 PM
i think i've been waiting about 6 weeks now. other people said they were approved within a few hours but i don't know when that was. their user numbers are exploding along with their technical problems. i presume they don't have the people to address this stuff right now.

Well, let's hope it's just technical and logistical issues. The mounting number of problems, from lag, stop-limits offline, reported withdrawal/verification delays and tickets going unanswered makes me nervous.
1558  Economy / Speculation / Re: Thousands rushing to buy bitcoins to pay ransomware! price on rocket on: May 13, 2017, 04:25:13 PM
for those wondering 10000$ is too much.. think about thousands rushing to buy bitcoins to  pay the ransom

A $300 ransom. I heard estimates of around 75K systems affected - that's only about 13K BTC at current prices. A single whale could buy (or sell) more bitcoins than all of these ransomware victims combined.
1559  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 12, 2017, 07:57:10 PM
My most recent and final foray into altcoinlandia cost me .5 BTC on margin call. Who in their right mind thought ripple would go UP?!?! I'm pretty sure Polo has become self-aware and is just fucking with me.

You shorted an alt pump, you crazy nut bag? Guy on Dash got wiped out doing that. If you're going to short, wait for a blow-off top (like with Stellar, but there were practically no loans available then), or short the rebound after the dump. Generally I do much better going long (and not on margin). There's no end of fools to sell into thanks to fomo.
1560  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 12, 2017, 12:07:03 PM
How do you do it? Use margin? Constantly dump and try to buy back in?

lol, hell no. Money is in the alt game. With all the newbies flowing in, it's like a turkey shoot.
