1561  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralization system of bitcoin on: February 18, 2018, 08:40:49 AM
Yes decentralization is a great way of keeping your funds safely. You are the only owner of your coins and you don't need to be dependant on any of the banks or people so that they won't take them away with them. Decentralization should be encouraged throughout the world as you don't want to depend on any one. Not only bitcoin, all the cryptocurrencies which are decentralized in their nature will definitely pave the way for the better human interaction in the future and a new world would be created. Decentralization nowadays has been adopted in various fields and blockchain has been a growing development throughout the world.

Most of the people have problems with connecting electrum wallet to the network. Once you receive the coins in your electrum wallet you can send them as a transaction to your qt wallet. If you are not ready to do a transaction, you can just take a backup of the electrum wallet with the private key and then you can import the private key to the qt bundle and your coins will be restored in the new qt wallet
1563  Other / Off-topic / Re: Awarding Merit for quality posts [Only Newbies] on: February 17, 2018, 06:01:41 PM
Though you are not a newbie as I mentioned above,I have given this post a Merit. Actually I loved the way how you gave the explanation and it was good in the sense you handled the answer. I cannot put a hand on other posts as it was already merited and moreover i don't have enough merits, sorry.  Smiley

Op here is my application for this :
Grin You will not receive merit from me for this shitpost.  Grin

You have replied to a mega reply thread which has around 1200+ replies and moreover you have mentioned a point which has been already said huge number of times here. Kindly reply to the topic which has really very low replies and your reply helps them. Hence I cannot merit this post. Sorry Huh

You being a full member must have improved your posting quality, and you had replied to a mega thread and your answer is not appealing neither to me nor it was helpful. Please improve your posting quality and come back and post here. Thank you.

EDIT:
Thanks for meriting me. But I think this rule about newbies is pretty meaningless and rather restrictive because you can become a Junior Member with no merits at all if I'm not mistaken. It is only for the latter and up the ladder where the lack of merits reveals itself. For example, you are already a Member while I'm still a Junior even though my activity is a little higher than yours.
Actually why I chose newbies is that they will not be getting much merits for their posts. If you need merits, just help out others who are searching for answers in Bitcoin Technical Discussion and Technical Support. If your answers are really helpful you will be receiving merits, so does the top members are top with their merits while we are not.

1564  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone knows how to generate Ethereum vanity addresses? on: February 17, 2018, 02:17:30 PM
Is your question about sending eth from metamask to another wallet or generatng a vanity address?
If first was your question pastethe eth receiving address in the receipient field in the metamask. Once you have done that, you can fill out the gas and gwei in next page and your eth will be sent.

If second was your question of generating vanity address, you should better be using mycrypto.com. Click ENS and in the search box type your name and check if it's available or not. Use your metamask and link them and buy them. You can also use the vanity eth tool for generating, but I am not sure about them. Hope this may help you.
1565  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcomo tokens wrong wallet on: February 17, 2018, 01:29:37 PM
Bitcomo is an erc20 token. Hence you should have given you wallet address properly. An address is derived from a public key which itself is further derived from the private key. If you have received your funds, then you need to immediately change your funds to another address as you have revealed your private key. Contact the chat as they will check the address before sending the funds as a erc20 address may consist of 0x as prefix and your private key may have some hexa decimal character.

EDIT : I think you cannot reverse your transaction. Actually you have given your private key instead of wallet address. Am right in understanding your problem?
If that is the case give your wallet address. Let me check.

1567  Other / Off-topic / Awarding Merit for quality posts [Newbies - Jr Members] on: February 14, 2018, 12:57:50 PM
My smerits are getting clogged up in my account and I am figuring out a way to merit a few to help Newbies and Jr Members in ranking up. I can clear up these smerits at a stretch in a day or two by giving to Sr and Hero members who have been making great posts, but I would receive a certain privilege if I rank up Newbies.

I have totally 19 merits to give for 19 quality posts.

- Newbies/Jr Members are the guys whom I will merit.
- Hence if you have made a quality posts and feel it has not been merited, kindly post it here.
- Highest merit I can give for a post is 1, as I don't have enough merits with me.
- Remember, only a newbie who haven't got past 100 activity points can only post here. If you have crossed 100 and you still didn't receive any merits, I assume you are probably a bad poster.
- Jr Members with less than 120 activity points can apply here for the review.
- Please post only 1 post which you feel better in the sense you can get a merit.
- Never try to post useless posts here.
- Only submit posts written in English.
- I will be checking your previous posts before giving a merit.
- Do not quote this post.

Once I have awarded all the smerits available I will lock this thread and again reopen it when I have gained a few to award.

1568  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero Wallet Backup on: February 14, 2018, 10:50:02 AM
You will not see the wallet.dat file anywhere in the folder as monero uses wallet.keys for backing up the wallet. You can find the .keys file in the Documents/monero folder of your computer. While you created a wallet file, you would have saved the 25-word seed somewhere in the paper, restore your wallet with the .keys file and this 25-word seed. While you open the backup folder you would find 3 files namely

1. .address.txt - where your address is stored. Just by opening this file you will see your address and no need to open the wallet each time.

2. .keys - where your private key is stored. This is a read only file and the most important file for the backup. You can recover the wallet only if you have this .keys file and the seed words else forget about your wallet.

3. Name - stores all your wallet data and is secured by wallet password.
1569  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MyEtherWallet!! Online vs Offline on: February 14, 2018, 09:46:25 AM
My ether wallet as the name suggest is the most secure and safest wallet available on the net for which you can hold your private keys. Coming to your questions,
Quote
1. If you open an offline mew account , you got a ETH Id , is there any chance to repeat the same ID on online ? Because the offline id may not be listed in their Database.
The mew generates the private key with a random number generator. The address is a combination of 40 hexadecimal characters excluding the 0x prefix. When you are generating a address with mew offline generator, the probability of generating the same 40 character combination to be displayed again is very very low and will never happen. Firstly the private key is generated, from which a public key is derived which in turn derives the address.
A hexadecimal character is a combination of 16 characters that is (a-f) and (0-9). Hence you can generate around 16^40 possible addresses. Hence if you had picked a address, the same address will be repeated in the 16^40 address is negligible and cannot happen.
Quote
2. If you open an offline ID , then don't use it for long time. Will it get vanished ? For the above fact.

3. If it happens , what will be the correct procedure.
No way it will not at all get vanished. I can't answer to the question what can you do after the number has vanished as it will never ever happen and you can be very sure you are really secured and you will not lose your funds. Hope this answer helps.  Smiley

1571  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Marketplace value of Bitcoin on: February 13, 2018, 05:09:50 PM
Instead of investing in bitcoin you can invest in other altcoins which will give good profits in future. Choose the altcoins properly so that you may not run up in losses by doing research on them. Btc has rised huge in amount and you can just buy only a little, but altcoins are not like that. Most of the coins are in the growing stage and hence investment in them will help you to buy large in volume and hence will give you huge returns once you sell them after holding them for a while. Moreover you need to diversify your portfolio so that when some coins go in losses you can gain some profit from other coins. Instead of investing in btc which has higher transaction costs you can invest in ethereum which can be used for transactions at a lower costs.
1572  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does Ethereum have SPV wallets already? on: February 10, 2018, 04:31:54 PM
Yes eth has some SPV wallets where you don't need to download the entire blockchain to store your tokens. To save your ERC20 tokens without downloading anything I recommend you paper wallet (myetherwallet).   MEW is the fastest way of generating a eth address so quickly which requires only to enter the password to get an address. Some of the other popular secure SPV wallets for storing eth is jaxx but on the other hand jaxx doesn't support all the erc20 tokens. Next to jaxx there is Metamask a chrome based lightweight eth wallet where your tokens will be safe. Choose between these 3 wallets:

1. MEW - Best eth wallet on net and the most secure and supports all the erc20 tokens.
2. Jaxx - Second best, buy supports few erc20 tokens
3. Metamask - Best chrome based lightweight wallet for storing eth and it's tokens in a very secure way. Metamask can be downloaded from Chrome webstore.

1574  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the difference between ERC20 and ERC23? on: February 10, 2018, 10:37:36 AM
You should have posted this topic in Altcoin Discussion thread as we are discussing about eth and it's tokens.
Anyways In simple terms ERC20 are standard set of rules a smart contract or token should satisfy. These set of rules will define how the token will function in the blockchain of ethereum. ERC20 are most commonly used by all the altcoin developers for developing their new coin. Whereas ERC23 are new set of rules or can be said as an upgrade to ERC20 standards which was implemented in early 2017.  The main difference is that the transaction costs of ERC23 is lesser than ERC20 tokens and in the future these will overtake ERC20 contracts. Hope this helps.  Smiley
1575  Economy / Reputation / This member is a SPAMMER on: February 09, 2018, 03:47:04 PM
This particular member https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1780487 has been constantly spamming the altcoin section for past couple of days. Not even the moderator or any senior member considered this spammer and left him around to spam in the forum. Hence I left a negative trust on him. If any senior member or moderator feels this as wrong please inform in this thread so that I would take away the negative trust on that member.

1576  Other / Meta / Re: Disadvantage of merit system----- on: February 09, 2018, 07:27:33 AM
These merit threads are just flooding in Meta. Go and check the off topic section, shitposting guys are flooding in day by day and they are just trying to post only for ranking up and not for learning anything new here. I can't just figure out why this forum is still having those "Off-Topic" threads. Merit is a very good implementation for making this forum quality like how it was before for helping each others for technical questions, crypto news. If you are good enough you will receive merit else just stay in this same position forever.
I think for ranking up from newbie to Jr.member they should include at least 5 merits.
Hope theymos will add this rule that minimum merit required for ranking up from newbie to Jr is 5 and remove the off-topic section from this forum.
1577  Other / Meta / Re: Top 5 Bitcointalk accounts on: February 06, 2018, 02:56:51 PM
Interesting list but a bit confusing. Top 5 based on what? And how does #4 belong here...? Putting test account along with people who have big input is confusing.
I am just mentioning bitcointalk accounts which will be spoken for decades. Bitcointalk is a top forum among crypto users, in such a forum many people would think upon which is the first account registered on this forum and which might be the first post made on this forum. Today there are tons and tons of new users creating an account each day but the first account created in this forum is worth mentioning. Hardly today only one account is active and has been updating this forum which is theymos for sure whereas most of the users forgot these big names who shaped the bitcointalk. Moreover I have minimized this list to 5 so that it won't create controversy among users. If it was top 10 I would have mentioned some worthy names there and it would have been even more interesting.
1578  Other / Meta / Re: Is the limit of waiting for 360 seconds for newbies lifted ? on: February 05, 2018, 03:08:44 PM

This account is having some issue. How can he get 30 activity in less  than 28 days ? As per his profile :Date Registered:   January 16, 2018 , this is just 21 days since he created the account.

I think you still haven't understood how this activity works. This is practically possible. We can become a junior member based on the date of registration and that too within 28 days. This can be made true by potential activity. According to the activity change spreadsheet time mentioned here : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12saLhlUoqIdairxzuSPu6EYGrt7FN2lOstO1yDjCEbA
He has registered his account luckily before the activity time completed which is on Jan 16. Hence due to this fact he has received 14 potential activities for this period and another 14 potential activities on Jan 17. Hence he has 28 potential activities and he can reach 28 activities within 2 weeks= 14 days and he reached 30 activities within 28 days as he has posted in third 2 week period. So only he has reached the Jr.member rank within 28 days. Smiley Potential activity is nothing but number of 2 week period you have posted. If you post in three 2 week period you could become a Jr.member and that's what he has done.
1579  Other / Meta / Top 5 Bitcointalk accounts on: February 05, 2018, 07:42:24 AM
Since the launch in 2009, Bitcointalk has hugely become popular among crypto users and many coin developers are extensively using this platform to promote their newest products.
Bitcointalk currently has more than 1.8 million users and this number will drastically grow in the following years. Like many other forums on the net this has become a place for many bitcoiners to talk about the current affairs in crypto world and can clear the doubts regarding cryptos.

Which accounts stand here for top 5?
Here's a list of top 5 bitcointalk accounts according to me. I have minimized the list to 5 so that it won't create controversy among the users.

5. Hal Finney or Harold Thomas Finney

Date Registered : November 30,2010
Last Post : August 09, 2013

The person who received the first bitcoin transaction from Satoshi. It was believed that Hal was satoshi but he never accepted it. Hal used to work in a company called PGP Corporation and was one of those people who used to regularly post on the cryptography listserv where Satoshi first posted his research. In his last days too, he kept on computing and working on a software named ‘bcflick’ to strengthen the security of the bitcoin wallet which was mentioned in his postin this forum.

4. admin

Date Registered:   November 17, 2009

The first account created in bitcointalk forum by satoshi for testing. Many of you may wonder what the 7 posts were? These were test messages which were made back in 2009 for testing that this forum runs correctly. You may find this 7 posts in staff forum section.

3. Sirius or Martti Malmi

Date Registered:   November 20, 2009

The founder of bitcointalk forum and the second bitcoin developer after satoshi. Though not a current developer of coin he manages the bitcointalk and bitcoin domains.

2. Theymos or Michael Marquardt

Date Registered:   February 09, 2010

The most popular man in bitcointalk world is none other than theymos himself. The admin of bitcointalk and also currently moderating /r/bitcoin subreddit this person became the most influential person in bitcoin community. He has been credited for creating the first block explorer, for generally contributing to Bitcoin's technical discussion and a lot more works. Theymos has done a lot to prevent this official forum from becoming low quality.

1. Satoshi Nakamoto

Date Registered:   November 19, 2009

As most of you would have guessed the first place is taken by Satoshi. The founder of bitcoin and the third registered user in this forum satoshi has immensely contributed to bitcoin which is currently the top and first cryptocurrency created. Satoshi has left this forum way back in December 2010 and has not shown up anywhere. No one knows who is satoshi and how he/she/they looks but his contribution to this world has revolutionized how payments were done all over the world and this invention will last forever and will be a milestone on history of this world.
This forum has been created by satoshi and the first post in this forum was done by satoshi. By introducing bitcoin he was the first to prevent the double spending problem for digital currency. It is claimed that Satoshi Nakamoto is an imaginary name, a pseudonym, adopted by the creator of Bitcoin. The search for the real Satoshi Nakamoto has been endless with one misidentification after the other, mostly created by journalists around the world.

1580  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: king of all coins on: February 04, 2018, 11:27:41 AM
Ripple Grin Are you joking? It's a centralized currency whereas btc is highly decentralized and open source. Btc has very high market value at 150b (time of writing) whereas ripple is too low at 36b when compared to btc. Btc wallet can operate at free of cost while ripple must have at least 20 xrp for the wallet to activate. Though the transaction fees of ripple is too low at 0.005$ the cost of btc fees can be reduced to a large extent by the introduction of lightning network.
Since the amount of btc is only 21m as the time passes the value of btc sky rockets due to its limited count but on the other hand ripple has huge supply of coins. Considering these factors btc will be always the king of all coins and none of the coins can replace them (may be ethereum in future can dethrone)
