1561  Economy / Marketplace / Re: WANTED - Bitcoin Sellers! Many Open Orders Needed to Be Filled on: December 29, 2011, 04:27:37 AM
I had not tracked the difference the other way, but will start to keep an eye on it.  I'm usually happy to arb exchanges when that happens, and it adds to that very important aspect called liquidity.  However, I have most of my coins/funds tied up elsewhere so would need to shift some new $$ across.  Something to look at tomorrow.
1562  Economy / Marketplace / Re: WANTED - Bitcoin Sellers! Many Open Orders Needed to Be Filled on: December 28, 2011, 08:05:20 AM
Supply and demand - if people want BTC, then they have to increase price.  Lots of people want cheap coins, but seeing a $4 price when others are at $4.20 is't going to result in sellers moving exchanges.

Maybe if CryptoXchange buyers bid $4.50 they would get filled.  (definitely tongue in cheek)
1563  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Will minning bitcoins kill your card? on: December 28, 2011, 03:42:54 AM
Because this has popped up in my un-read section, I can add another 5970 to my dead pile, but I did also swap a fan between my XFX 5970 into the sapphire card.
1564  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Looking for lenders on: December 28, 2011, 02:30:20 AM
Tipped in a few more bit-cents.  Spare capacity has fallen from around 1200 when I saw it when I woke up to 250 now, so it has been updating.
1565  Economy / Lending / Re: [Closed] 250 BTC loan @ 0.5% interest per day !!! on: December 28, 2011, 02:27:37 AM
Interesting thread with some relevant points included and a couple missed.

INAUM (shortened) got into Pirate's loan scheme as an early adopter and took greater risk that they might not be paid back.  1% is a good rate, but it is unsecured and might all disappear if it grew into a giant ponzi worth millions.  He picked a division of profit that seemed reasonable and still profitable for someone putting in $1k of coins (roughly $5/day for a month in interest).  That's enough to get someone to bother moving coins around, and if you don't like it or can do better, he's not forcing anyone to take the risk or accept the interest.

For 0.5%/day for a user (INAUM) who has invested a lot into btc, it looks pretty reasonable and if I had done some different purchasing earlier this month I would have some coins that might have gone this direction.  Unfortunately I've been increasing my risk exposure as an early-ish adopter in Pirate's loan programme and have some funds parked there.

Hell of a lot better than 1.25% for 3 months - anyone with debt can probably get two to our times that return, and most can get equivalent returns from a real financial institution.  Plus, this kind of dealing (and credit to the smart people at the pointy end of this) will help grow the BTC economy.

Ok, who has the balls to go to a gay classifieds website and post his numbers? lol
Those numbers are local police stations.  (but there are two Victorian numbers that match the last name)
1568  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Accusations against shakaru on: December 27, 2011, 01:15:44 AM
Loup, yes, you can have balls and a cunt at the same time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermaphrodite#Humans

Hence the expression, go F*** yourself.

Entertaining as this thread is, it simply makes Coinhunter/Realsolid look reasonable.
1569  Economy / Speculation / Re: Nagle on: December 25, 2011, 08:31:55 PM

This whole thread has been a massive circle jerk for the bulls, . . .

Not the whole thread.  It might have evolved that way.
1570  Economy / Services / Re: Introducing the Bitcoin100: A Kickstarter for Charities on: December 24, 2011, 04:10:58 AM

I'm currently under the impression that PatrickHarnett owns this site or, at the very least, is directly connected to this organization, neither of which is relative if that so be the case, but would beg the question as to why a Bitcoin donation option is not already embedded on the website.

Nope.  Don't really know anything about them (DCM.org.nz).  My wife deals with Mike at the shelter and they have space for 23 regulars and some other more casuals.

We worked on a one local, one national and one international as a way of directing some charity.
So we also give money to the books-in-homes program and sponsor a decile 1 school (that's the poor end and fills in the National aspect), but I also have no special link to that program - but we did help the year 5 and 6 classes come to Wellington and covered the costs of their over-night at the zoo.  We have a sponsored child in Bangladesh, and I also do Kiva (the micro lending site for fun - up to 43 loans over there).  It's just random.

I haven't read this thread since about page three and now it's on page 27!

Was thinking last night about what the criteria is for donations so will pose the question as follows.

One of the things we support in our house (mainly my wife) is the local homeless shelter.  They have a building, a small budget and I think three people that actually donate.  We sourced a bunch of coats/jackets during the winter for them, blankets and we have a regular food order for them as otherwise they wouldn't get anything on a Sunday night.  i.e. this is a very low key org, not like the competing church mission with it's million/year budget.  Tomorrow we'll drop some food around to them for Christmas.

So, this is a small org, helping people that would normally sleep out of doors (as it's summer, it's a little better at the moment) and assisting them re-integrate into more mainstream society.  Would it qualify?

Depends! Website? Years on line? Reach? Backlinks? Basically those key questions for starters, with possibly a few minor ones to follow.

Not sure about all the questions, but the link points in the right direction I think.
1572  Economy / Speculation / Re: Nagle on: December 23, 2011, 10:50:23 PM
I came to this thread specifically because of the title.  If we collectively consider him an anti-hero we could imortalise him with his own named chart - the "Nagle-chart".  I don't know what it looks like yet, but it shows doom and disaster just before being proven wrong.
1573  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Replacing ATI 58xx/5970 Ref cards' fan (not a guide) on: December 23, 2011, 10:01:06 PM
I did a fan replacement today, but I tend to use fans from the GPUs that have previously died.  Today it was an XFX card to Sapphire 5970 (the only reason I kept the xfx one was for the fan replacement).

There are some shortcuts once you get all the screws identified.  Remember the two little screws above the output connectors, and the four hex bolts.  There are something like 34 screws in total to remove (I haven't counted properly.)

I've never had a problem with VRMs and leave the original sticky in place.

For the thermal paste, I did some research on this a year ago and have this tip: use the existing paste, but refresh it with mineral oil.  I use tiny amount of spray on CRC (WD40?), mix it with a toothpick or similar and reset the heatsink.  I've done this regularly with GPUs and CPUs and it works very well.

1575  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: it's winter, so you know what that means... on: December 22, 2011, 10:59:44 PM
well the internet covers the whole world - it is both
maybe
"it's winter in the northern hemisphere, so you know what that means..."
would have been a better title

http://www.bom.gov.au/wa/forecasts/perth.shtml certainly says it is NOT winter...

Christmas = summer.

It gives good insight into how you think ...
As does this thread.

Recognizing one's mistakes and trying to correct them is a wonderful quality to see in someone.

I'll +1 this.
1577  Other / Off-topic / Re: South Park: A Bitcoin episode entitled "The Good Coin" on: December 22, 2011, 06:06:49 PM
This thread tells me I need to watch more Southpark.

The "creature within" makes me think of "Lawnmower Man".  Could we have the mining rigs use dial-up modems?
1578  Other / Off-topic / Re: South Park: A Bitcoin episode entitled "The Good Coin" on: December 22, 2011, 03:28:44 AM
Man...there really IS no such thing as bad publicity, is there?

No

and there is always someone watching
1579  Other / Off-topic / Re: How much time have you logged into bitcointalk forum? on: December 22, 2011, 03:24:33 AM
5 days something

But interesting to note the post count to time ratio and if the users post worthwhile stuff or junk.

I'm sure someone could create a Nagle chart of this (he could be famous for a special after-the-event bear chart).
1580  Other / Off-topic / Re: South Park: A Bitcoin episode entitled "The Good Coin" on: December 22, 2011, 03:19:53 AM
My goodness. I was so busy mocking the_joint that I missed all this action!

Randy, seriously, how many threads do you want about this situation?

None.

In a surreal twist, building on the WoW episode ("they must have NO LIFE") and the zero-point of the small community, the end of the show could demonstrate there is actually only one person involved, just highly split personality feeding on their own posts. - i.e. a nice reference to the small community here that knows what's going on.

end scene - all sucked into a black hole
