1581  Other / Off-topic / Re: In what sports do men and women compete at the closest to the same level? on: April 30, 2014, 05:13:15 PM
Came here to say Olympic equestrian but someone already said it.

Will go with Olympic sailing, it has some open gender events. I believe equestrian and sailings are the only events were men and women compete against each other. There are some mixed gender team sports like tennis but that's not the same thing.

Men and women could compete again teach other in shooting but at the Olympics the separate events by gender to get a higher participation rate from women.
1582  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is your favorite car????? on: April 30, 2014, 03:36:46 PM
All the cars mentioned are very desirable in their own right. And, if you have deep enough pockets it would be nice to own them. However, for us regular guys who live on a budget and in the real world I prefer to think of vehicles I can actually afford to purchase. When I was a kid I always wanted a Corvette, Camaro or Mustang. Now that I am older I have owned all of them and have loved everyone of them. they each had something special to offer. I felt safer at 165 mph in my Corvette than I did in my truck at 70. The Camaro and Mustang were great pony cars to have on a limited budget. They both ran like scalded cats and handled great. I've had six Corvettes, four Camaros and two Mustangs. I wish I had them back.
1583  Other / Off-topic / Re: Now This Could Ruin Your Day: An Exploding Whale on: April 30, 2014, 03:27:14 PM
Or bury it. That is what has been done in many of these cases. Certainly the methane should be expelled, but the carcass can be buried and allowed to decompose naturally without the stench on open land or the hazard of putting it back in the water - not only is it a physical hazard but it will foul the water as well - especially near the beach.
1584  Other / Off-topic / Re: Now This Could Ruin Your Day: An Exploding Whale on: April 30, 2014, 03:17:21 PM
Since it's already perished, how about someone shooting the bulge from a distance? That would relieve pressure and allow it to be hauled off or dragged out to sea to feed other carnivorous fish.
1585  Other / Off-topic / Re: What's your view on cannabis? on: April 30, 2014, 03:08:56 PM
Also if it became legal, crime would definitely decrease.  The druggies today, still have access to it even though it's illegal, so what's the point? You remember the prohibition? People still managed to get access to alcohol. If you make cannabis legal, crime would just decrease, the people who smoke it everyday, will still smoke it everyday regardless of what laws restrict it
1586  Other / Off-topic / Re: What's your view on cannabis? on: April 30, 2014, 02:59:20 PM
I personally don't smoke weed but if there can be high taxes so the state gets extra money, why not?
1587  Other / Politics & Society / Re: you get Richer as the Older You’ll Get on: April 30, 2014, 10:28:53 AM
I'm pretty sure the last few record holding oldest people on earth were not millionaires. I wonder how big of a factor diet is.
I'm guessing it's not a huge factor. Being wealthy often has an effect of being conducive to a strong commitment to a realm. So you're well-to-do here on Earth, so it's in your best interest to stick around and to try to enjoy it as long as possible.
On the other hand, generally a materially-oriented poor person will think, "there is nothing for me here, and it won't be so bad to move on to something else." This thinking will lead toward more reckless behavior, even if nothing else. In reality such thinking will actually change your being in a very profound way and without any reckless behavior it can create a bad circumstance.
But people are complex. Some very poor people can live for 120 years. A very rich person can die in their 30's or 40's from a drug OD, or from reckless driving in a Ferrari, or from pissing off an immoral business/political opponent and getting a hit put on you, to name just a few possibilities. Some people stick around because they want to see their grandkids, and they'll be damned if they die before then. Then as soon as their grand kids reach 5 years of age, they think, "I'm done here" and die.
1588  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lets talk about bitcoin which features would you like to be implemented? on: April 30, 2014, 10:27:30 AM
This isn't really a hard fork requirement since bitcoins don't exist at all in the protocol, only satoshis, but I'm 100% on board! I think the price of bitcoin has will continue to seriously hurt adoption. People think it's like buying an ounce of gold. Nice to have, but unrealistic for any transactions. Really, that's not the case at all!
1589  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The crazy regulations that keep American beer bad on: April 29, 2014, 03:03:25 PM
I think is crazy to have regulations that are hurting american beer, what ya think???

Wasn't there an article recently that said that Michigan now allows craft brewery to sell directly to grocery stores? and many German Beers were held back from experimenting with beer until recently I have never heard anyone complain that American made beers are bad, in fact most I have heard think Americans Make the best beers in the world even from Germans, French and English people and the one I met from Denmark.
1590  Economy / Economics / Re: Using a nations $ fiat is passive support for all of its social & Econmic policy on: April 29, 2014, 02:58:00 PM
What is interesting about this is a lot (actual figures require too much work) of trade in the USD does not occur within US borders. Basically all global oil sales are denominated in US currency - even out of countries like Venezuela and Russia. Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Australia, Canada all sell in USD. Oil isn't alone in being denominated in USD. All of this is support for US government policy as OP said.

The USDs value is supported by its role as the global reserve currency, but every year the economy of the globe grows quicker than the US economy. So every year we set a record for the smallest (relative) economy ever supporting a global reserve currency. You have to think that it is impossible for that to continue forever.

The creation of the Euro was an attempt to create a viable alternative. The Chinese government sure has high hopes for their currency taking on a more important role. Many people advocate for a gold backed global currency. All of these solutions are lacking in my view. Digital, decentralized scarcity offers a level playing field for all nations, and eliminates the need for trust (escrow) in international trade. And provides no opportunity for politics to leverage power from the system.

This is the main reason I have such an idealistic belief that Bitcoin has huge potential to fundamentally change everything about international finance.
1591  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin h8r I have a special understanding of why a lot of people don't like it. on: April 29, 2014, 02:39:37 PM
" People fear what they don't understand and hate what they can't conquer. "- Andrew Smith

Cheesy
I think part of the "hate" is that it's perceived as being heavily promoted by a lot of people who want to get rich from doing relatively little work, whilst most of society is slogging away at work to get bills paid. The sad reality is that there's truth in that. This leads to genuine benefits being disregarded or not looked into.
1592  Other / Off-topic / Re: Elderly mother giving money to a televangelist. on: April 29, 2014, 02:10:21 PM
Easy,

Tamper with the TV, short curcuit it or something to make sure it doesn't work anymore. Keep doing this to every TV then tell her God wants you to stop giving this guy money

You can also use parental channel blocking

Convincing a Christian never works.
That is a very simple action that may benefit her a lot. As long as she doesn't go on to the next fraudster.
1593  Other / Off-topic / Re: Elderly mother giving money to a televangelist. on: April 29, 2014, 02:06:21 PM
My mother, who is incredibly religious and is slowly slipping into dementia, has started giving money to Andrew Micheal's. I consider this guy an ass-clown, not because he is a Christian, because he is a 'faith healer'. I know that my mother is giving money to this guy because I monitor her bank accounts and email. Yeah, it sounds horrible to watch someone like this and it is. I don't trust her ability to make informed decisions and she has proven in the past that she is easily manipulated. If I was a 'Christian' the conversation would probably go a lot better. Because I am the spawn of Satan, aka an atheist, anytime I bring up something remotely religious it becomes a major issue between us. I'm trying to figure out how to convince her without seeming like I'm insulting her beliefs. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
Also you can try this : First you're going to have to convince one of your friends to dress up as a televangelist. Next you'll have to record him in front of a green screen or at a church preaching hardcore Christianity. Then have a phone number on the screen for donations using the green screen. Finally take the tape/dvd and put it in at your mother's house and BAM! Your friend gets the money that you can then funnel back into her accounts. It's foolproof.
1594  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why does a religious body (church, temple, mosque etc.) require so much money on: April 29, 2014, 01:02:11 PM
The only Christian congregation I've ever admired were the Friends. The local chapter, I'm pretty sure, is a typical Friends group. They do not believe in ostentatious display or proselytizing. They borrow gathering space from other churches.

I attended one of their services. There are no accoutrement, there is no hat passed around. The first half of their meetings consists of quiet meditation and some singing, the second half was a discussion of the futility of war.

Clearly, religion does not require any capital at all to function or thrive.

Now, if a congregation wanted to raise money to donate to a shelter or sponsor a needy family, of course that is reasonable and I'd think it's a fine cause.

Anything beyond that, I would immediately question.

people tend to forget religion is the congregation. It's not the building where they have their meetings, or the cars their preachers drive, or whatever.
1595  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why didn't the federal government give bailout money to home owners on: April 29, 2014, 12:32:55 PM
Why didn't the federal government give bailout money to home owners instead of the banks?
Because they didn't want the overall economy to collapse, and take down the banking system, and foreign currency exchange systems with it, when they could do it the way they did it, and save the overall system, but let some people off who morally and ethically should not have gotten off. I STILL think they took the least-bad approach.
The problem itself could have been prevented, back during the Clinton Administration, but by the time they did what they did, it was all about preventing the total collapse of the economy, which would actually have actually have done the most damage to the ones who played by the rules.
In a democracy it is STILL better to let the guilty go free than to punish the innocent, although both are bad choices, sometimes they are the only choices.
1596  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does anybody else get annoyed when people call gold "butter"? on: April 29, 2014, 11:57:40 AM
Same here but I don't think it is a big deal because they are a bunch of 12 year old kids...
My son (7 years old) and I both play Minecraft. I had never heard it called butter until he came home talking about it, to complain about how stupid it was that butter became a thing. He keeps trying to start Minecraft clubs with his friends where they ban the use of the word butter, but they all troll him and wait until they join the club before constantly saying butter again.

He gets so pissed.

I wish there was some alternative to Paypal that allows you to send money over the internet.
The internet should boycott paypal, dwolla used to have attractive rates for small business transaction processing, just need a good alternative for bitcoin carts. Of course you will be singleing out a sample of impulse buyers wanting the convenience (and falsely expected security) of paypal.
1598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The problem with the new wave of cryptocurrencies on: April 29, 2014, 11:40:11 AM
What is the point of pre-mining 2-5% of the coins if the project is open source? Can't someone immediately upon release just create an exact copy paste version that simply isn't premined?
In theory yes. In practice these are young projects that require a lot of dev work/maintenance, and the original devs know better what they are doing. Plus I'm not sure if the community would be okay with a copycat for the sake of avoiding premining. But I guess it's worth a try if someone is up to the task.

1600  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The problem with the new wave of cryptocurrencies on: April 29, 2014, 09:48:26 AM
Not all the Alts are bad news.  The issue is people don't know the difference between one or the other and hope if they invest early that coin will explode in value. Chances are they won't and people will lose money.  Their are definitely coins worth investing in but don't expect to get rich quick.  It takes time for a coin to get the proper attention it needs to grow and then the financial backing will come for real growth.
The more people educate themselves the more people will prosper.
One of the reason that new alts are pupping out everyday like mushrooms after rain is the hope of explode in value(like happened with bitcoin)and instantly from poor your millionaire .
