161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: July 16, 2014, 11:06:42 AM
I feel we need to spread the Bitmark name some more and we need to get onto an exchange.

I do like the direction Bitmark is going, but we need to get a better idea where we stand in the market.  I also feel by not getting the word out Bitmark will be labeled an ninja launch and stealth / instamine.  These labels can cause volatility in the coins market.

I certainly agree in terms of the 'direction Bitmark is going' but feel that this 'direction' does not require getting Bitmark onto an exchange any time soon. In fact, IMHO, the longer it is before it gets on an exchange the better...
162  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: July 16, 2014, 08:22:15 AM
I have made a mistake.

The wallet controlling the bitmark foundation had two accounts, one with just under 60 BTM left from the first blocks solo mined, and the other with the Bitmark Foundation funds, 1001 BTM.

I sent Allow 50 BTM to thank him for his efforts on the project, however it came out of the foundation account instead of the surplus.

I have rectified the situation by sending the full amount in the wallet to the Bitmark Foundation address, which now has a balance of 1010 BTM.

The concerned transaction is c9d1f2740de46701d642da0b05dd95914dc6e5ca360bb978371cc6c7141369f2

The block explorer now shows that 2011 BTM has been received, for this reason, the true figure will always be 1001 less.

An amount of 0.9996 BTM was sent as change to the address bYwiBH1v7gF6sxgX26rR5CumWHQSnwNX98, this has now been lost forever.

The Bitmark Foundation key is securely stored offline, the wallet file has been removed to ensure that no foundation funds can be touched, accidentally or otherwise.

I am mortally offended & upset that I received no acknowledgement of my paltry 50 BTM donation...  Cry

Only joking..!

Sorry Androidicus I forgot to say you were already credited on the ANN since yesterday, I had a thank you reply drafted and was then distracted by helping Danny.

I know you are joking, but I want you to know that I am sorry for the oversight, and value your donation of both BTM and time as much as any other.

Shortly I will have a proposal ready which takes 5 minutes to read, if anybody is available to take a look at it before posting it here, could they pm me or join the irc room.

Thank you.

Cool That'll teach me not to re-visit the ANN often enough! Now I feel plain stoopid..!

Seriously though, in spite of a few FUD comments here and there (which naturally goes with the territory) I continue to be impressed with the commitment and endeavour of both yourself and the supporting community to Bitmark.

Keep up the good work...

I sent it through as I like what you are doing here with the whole organic growth from the ground up.  Seems like its attracting good members from the community also.  Active development is the main criteria in choosing my investments and I can see this project doing well.

Echo that ^^^ !

I sent 50BTM to the Foundation Address a few hours ago... for the exact same reason.

I cannot afford to keep all my hash on BTM as need to cover power etc. etc. But there's a liitle GS 5 chip going to be perma-pointed at it - there's 360 kh/s you can rely on Mark!

Figured out what the problem was.

Basically every time the main system queried the stratum client wallets it would look through the last 400 transactions and update the confirmations.

Because up to now no coins on the pool had had greater confirmations required than 120, the last 400 transactions would always catch the needed blocks and update the confirmations.

Because bitmark requires 740 confirmations to mature a block the pool began to miss updating confirmations which then meant blocks were not getting paid out.

The problem was compounded by the fact that because there are two stratum servers the one with less hash on it was updating confirmations correctly as it was not finding nearly as many blocks as the other. The system would then only look back as far as the last solved and confirmed block paid out to process and pay new blocks.

Luckily all shares are recorded and logged on the system so all I had to do was write a quick script that replayed through the unconfirmed / unpaid blocks.

I have also updated the transaction query from the main system to look at the last 4000 transactions instead of the last 400, so this should never happen again.

Apologies for any inconvenience / stress etc caused by this.

Well done! Wasn't panicking, honest... Grin

Still think your pool has been one of the best, in the long run  Smiley

842 m/hs at miningpool.co and only 2 miners donating - shocking...

In defense of those of us who aren't donating: there is a 1.5% pool fee already.

I know, I know - I guess I'm a little ole skool... I will wind my neck in!  Wink

The Bitmark Foundation
./bitmarkd sendtoaddress bQmnzVS5M4bBdZqBTuHrjnzxHS6oSUz6cG 200 "the bitmark foundation"
d3c1b75d68333d95c8e1c9db4f4ba5b4719bce97008fe73c0cfb5f551d7f3b2d

I have sent the first 200 coins to the bitmark foundation address: bQmnzVS5M4bBdZqBTuHrjnzxHS6oSUz6cG

The difficulty has jumped 4x already.
The network is at 2.5GH/s.

I did not expect this. These coins have no value, yet.

Thank you everybody, I think we can say we have launched successfully.

I will be feeding back some BM to the foundation.

Top feeder at MPC at 650+ m/hs no surprise diff is climbing - with net hash at 2.5GH/s!

The fun begins!

172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: July 13, 2014, 07:45:29 PM
Ok, back from family fun...

1) QT downloaded and working fine on my USB stick (portable stylee)

2) Mining at miningpool.co (initial stratum 'down' seems to be resolved) Fairly long term user there so simple to add to dashboard and point existing worker...

3) I'm getting block credits etc. etc.

All seems good so far...

Rather concerned that miningpool.co seems to be down

One of my favourite pools - hope all is well...

I have no idea as to why, no affiliation. Perhaps message ethought, as far as I know it is his pool, or see if there is a support thread or twitter with updates?

I hope miningpool.co has no impact on the release of Bitmark later, that would be sad.

Quite - now going to be AFK until much later...

I will be pointing some long term hash at BM assuming all goes well and there is somewhere to aim it!

Again, good luck...

The genesis block has been found, with a timestamp of 18:00:41, and the message "13/July/2014, with memory of the past, we look to the future."

Everything is ready for launch, with some hours spare.

Excellent!

It is a shame I will miss the launch owing to 'family' time (I hate weekend launches!) but will point some hash asap tomorrow.

Good luck!

In the last few days, I have read all post, and have participated as much as I can.  Yet I can do more.  While I do consider myself a geeker, I do not know coding on the level that I would like. Having said that, by nature, I am an entrepreneur.  It is this nature that lead me to bitcoin and crypto currency in the first place.  Since the beginning of 2013, I no longer accept government fiat for my online product/service offers.  You might call me one of the crazy risk takers, yet I have chosen to be among the very few online merchants that is crypto only merchant.   It is slow, yet a greatly rewarding choice.  I do believe in this bitmark community and the concept at large.  In order to help the bitmark foundation, I propose to offer 20% of my online sells profits to the bitmark foundation, in the effort of support and future growth.  These transfer will occur on a monthly basis.  In all intent, consider this a funds raiser.  I am not a wealthy man, but I do have vision, and a positive outlook for the future of us all.  Here is the link to my site. http://jaysjerkyandgoodies.auctivacommerce.com/
I would appreciate any thoughts on my offer.  I have started a thread for the discussion.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=687410.new#new

Sincerely in support of Bitmark project

Jay

Bitmark Release Time
You decide, tick the date and time you want and enter your forum username: http://doodle.com/bvva2sa38nduicwz - no login or sign up required.

In 12 hours the top choice will be the release time.

Done

Selfishly, I'm quite tied up with family matters this weekend!

But, also, I quite like Monday = 14.7.14 (well, in UK date format anyway)! The middle number is both in the middle and half of the the outer numbers... must be some deep mystical meaning there somewhere!

is there any news on mining pool/s? I would like to direct some steady hashrate.

I would seriously suggest that you consider PMing MineP.it (on here) as I know that he works with devs...

So far I know miningpool.co has intentions of adding support on release.
I can speak to MineP.it, or you can, or bring him here Smiley

4. we will be able to launch any time from tomorrow

I would give at least 48 hours from the official announcement to the time mining starts. You don't want anyone screaming "Ninja Launch," either.

the difficulty re-targets every 720 blocks (1 day)

I would urge you to reconsider this. This is how coins get hash-raped. Something like KGW/DigiShield/DGW would protect from this. There have been coins with lower hashrates that have actually had to fork just to get past a block after being hash-raped.

Considering the coin has a decent starting difficulty, zero value, no exchanges, potentially no pools, and doesn't expect to have any value or exchanges for a long time, do you think these things are still a concern?

My own original rationale was that Bitmark is crafted in such a way that the usual MINE DUMP can not happen, since there is no value, and so no concern.
edit: The next post covers this in more detail.

The first release serves one purpose, to allow early adopters and those contributing to the project to slowly get the network going and prove it is in fact stable and good code, whilst we work on the important things which give value to the coin, once they are happening then we may reasonably expect a natural rise in hashing power, and perhaps some value.

Remember, the first release is just a rebranded bitcoin, fully tested, converted to scrypt, and with a different block chain configuration. That itself has no real value other than as a code base for some other projects to use.

1) Miningpool.co - great! EDIT: (that's a sincere Great! - looked a little sarcastic on reading back!)

2) MineP.it - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=298616

I have PMd and emailed the dev at MineP.it - hopefully he will respond.

Whilst you have set out very reasonably the issues of MINE DUMP, and I agree that there will be no value, there is a general trend for miners to jump on a new coin launch just because it may have some value and they want to 'get in on it'... just be aware that your worthy ethics and philosophy are not widespread in the profit hungry shark / whale infested waters that make up the crypto sea...

Status
1. the domain bitmark.co has been purchased for the project
2. the dedicated server is purchased and being configured for bitmark
3. the dns seeder is being set up
4. we will be able to launch any time from tomorrow

Thank you all for your input and kind words, I am very happy to be working on this project with you.

Perfect...

100% agree with Mining comments - on that point - is there any news on mining pool/s? I would like to direct some steady hashrate.

I would seriously suggest that you consider PMing MineP.it (on here) as I know that he works with devs...

Please provide a donation Bitmark address as soon as possible. Have you already posted a BTC donation address? EDIT: Doh, just checked!

Good luck!
